Domshroud, welcome, always Repair Permissions before and after all upgrades.
Boot from the install CD again, once it mounts (X window) go up to the main menu under Install and open Disk Utility, now select the OS volume and run the Verify and Repair Permissions. Then go back up to the main menu and select your startup drive and restart. If this does not work post back.

    Hi,
Try this ... reboot your Mac and see if double clicking works again.
Also, you can just select the Application you like to open and hold down the Command+O to open.
Also, did you check your setting for the mouse in system preferences.

Might be Finder preferences are corrupted ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash
    Then try the Finder.

  • Trackpad Scrolling and 'Find' does not work

I'm loving it so far on my Work IBM T43 / Windows XP. I always wished for this to come out and now here it is. I can't say though that it isn't without any issues such as the ones mentioned above [Trackpad Scrolling and 'Find' does not work]. I'm still playing around with but so far so good. Anyone else coming up with these issues?
Specifically I have to manually select 'Find' from the drop down File Menu under Edit and then once it has been activated, I can use 'Cntl + F' but then once I click on Done, nothing happens. I once again have to use it from the drop down. It's not a major thing but definitely a peave.

I'm on an IBM T60 on XP Professional and trackpad scrolling doesn't work
I hope this problem will be solve soon.

  • Find Command not working on non-boot drives

When executing a find (command f) in the finder, it appears the find does not work on any non-boot drive.
For example, in my Mac Pro (10.5.6), the find command works fine for the boot device, but when selecting another internal drive or a connected server in the resulting finder window, the find never returns any results, even if I search for a known file.
I have checked my Spotlight preferences and nothing has been excluded in the Privacy tab. (Isn't Find different from spotlight, anyway?)
Very confusing. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I'm not using Leopard but on Tiger there's a bunch of buttons in the Find window to select where to search.
    Also try EasyFind application.

  • Finder does not working on Mavericks

    Dear all,
The Finder does not working on my newly upgraded OSX Mavericks!
Yesterday I have just upgraded my Macbook Pro (OSX Lion) to OSX Mavericks. Now the Finder does not working at all; by that, I meant the folder I had opened previously now keeps frozening. Although I have tried to "relaunch"/ "Force Quit" the Finder and Restart the computer for so many times, but the frozen window remains on the screen (the Finder is not responding), so now I couldn't do anything neither with my files nor the hard drive itself except web browsing and some applications.
Anyone share your know-how on this please.
    Thank you very much.

I also got this problem, I need some help right now.

  • Spotlight and Find does not work in 10.4.7 and Macbook Pro

I have this strange problem of the Find and the Spotlight not working properly. Whenever I pass on a word to search it doesnot give me the full list. e.g In desktop I have file UserValidator.java and in the Find window I give options: Name Contains "Validator". The list that it is showing is not having the .java file.
I am getting crazy what is happening. Has anybody faced with this problem.
    Thanks,
    Tanmoy

    Perhaps it's an Invisible item?
    In Find, select Other
It opens a 'search attribute' window, in that scroll to and select 'Visibility' (4th from bottom)
Check 'Add to Favorites' then OK
Then select 'Visibility' and on the right button 'Visible or Invisible'
    Search for your file

  • Find does not work in numbers for iPad.

help, my company has an excel document which I have saved to numbers. But the find option DOES NOT WORK, when the find option is tapped the find screen shows up but only accepts on or two letters. Then when the wheel/ tool is presses the screen goes blank and returns to the desk top. I received an email from iWork but have not received a follow- up response. Help.

    Hi lkennon,
You need to select the text in the cell to make "Remove Link" active. First, make the column wider if necessary to give somewhere 'safe' to click to the right of the address
Now drag over the address to select it
and "Remove Link" will be active.
You may find this useful (turn Smart Links off)
Even so, pasting an already active link into Numbers seems to over-ride that setting. Use Edit > Paste and Match Style.

    Ian.

  • "Help" menu in finder is not working correctly

My "Help" menu in the finder menubar is not working correctly. If I type in a query that can't be found, instead of telling that it can't be found, underneath the search field it just displays "Searching..." indefinitely. This is no matter what application I'm in when I access the menu. I have tried the advice in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6389569&#6389569 and that does not work. Using OS 10.5.1

I'd like to add that when I search, it will find menu commands (highlight relevant menu commands) but not return any actual help results. To clarify, this is when searching directly from the "help" menu bar item. Searching from within the help window seems to work fine.

  • [SOLVED]find command not working correctly new version of findutils...

After upgrading my findutils from 4.2.33-1 to 4.4.0-1, it is not working the way it used to. I downgraded to the old one and it is working fine again. However, I am wondering why the newer version can't do what I want it to...
Typically I run the following script to apply mp3gain to my music collection (albums and individual songs):
    #!/bin/bash
    echo Albums...
    find . -mindepth 3 -iname '*.mp3' -execdir mp3gain -k -a {} +
    echo Single tracks...
    find . -maxdepth 2 -iname '*.mp3' -exec mp3gain -k -r {} +
On the old version, for the albums, the "find" function works as expected by examining the entire album before applying gain. With the new findutils version, the albums are being analysed song-by-song. I suppose since the new version of findutils, there is just a different method to do what I wanted before with -execdir. Does anyone know how to do it on the new version?

Cool. Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up going with...
    #!/bin/bash
    echo Albums...
    for album in */*
    do
    cd "$album" > /dev/null 2>&1
    if [ $? = 0 ]
    then
    mp3gain -k -a *.mp3
    cd ..
    cd ..
    fi
    done
    echo Single tracks...
    find . -maxdepth 2 -iname '*.mp3' -exec mp3gain -k -r {} +
    exit 0

  • Going to files by typing in Finder window not working

My entire life using Mac OSX I have opened finder windows and then began typing the name of the file or folder I wanted in order to get the finder to select that file/folder.
For example, if I have my home open I just type "Do" and the Documents folder gets selected. Then I can hit Cmd-O to open it.
This stopped working today, and I'm perplexed and annoyed about it.
I installed the Security Update 2006-007 last night and so I'm wondering if that broke this.
Anyone having the same problem/know how to fix it. Not being able to do this is making using my computer significantly more annoying.
    Thanks you!

Also, I just tried clicking on the sidebar (I tried applications, desktop, and documents) and it will not navigate away from this window. If I exit the window and open a different finder window, it works. So what is it about this particular folder?

  • Finder window not working properly

This only just started happening, and it only seems to be happening to one or two folders...
First of all, this is what it looks like
as you can see, the file names look funky.
Also, if I edit a picture or delete one, it doesn't register the change unless I exit the folder and bring it back up.
Anyone know what's going on here and how I can fix it? This also happened when I tried to make a ringtone a few weeks back. I am running Yosemite.

Also, I just tried clicking on the sidebar (I tried applications, desktop, and documents) and it will not navigate away from this window. If I exit the window and open a different finder window, it works. So what is it about this particular folder?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is “find an item” search box in a custom list not work in your environment.
As search box and “find an item” search box in your home page are working, so the search service application is working.
Do you have any customzation to the particular custom list ?
If No, I suggest you can full crawl the data in Central Administration ->Manage Service Application->” Search Service Application”-> Manage Content Sources” to test if it works.
Also, please check if you have set "Allow items from this list to appear in search results" in list settings->Advanced Setting to true
