Finder is slow, it took me about 30 sec to open a folder
I just bought the new mac mini two days ago, this problem occured just now. Now it took me more than 30 seconds to open a folder.
The only think I could think about which might cause this problem is that I try to share the DVD drive on my mac book pro to install a game, but it was to slow to install, so I quit it. And I think the problem appeared afterwards.
Does anyone know why?
fixed. exchanged in apple store. works perfectly on new one now. oddly enuf old 5 had the 2 tiny torque screws missing on the bottom. Anyone else had this happen ?

iMac slowed down after installng Maverick. The pointer freezes for about 15 seconds every time I move from an online document to a computer app/document. 240 GB still available on HD.
The problem is that during WEI testing there are a number of files read and written to the primary disk. My guess is that on your first try the SSD was relatively clean, so all writes were consecutive and the score came out at 7.4. Now, after having used the SSD for some time, your score deteriorated to 6.5, because of the flaw in SSD design, that causes a severe performance hit on writes after deletes. It is somewhat similar to disk fragmentation on conventional disks, although much more severe. That is where trimming comes in handy, because it alleviates this write speed degradation.
Don't hold me against these figures, but it is not uncommon to see read speeds of say 220+ MB/s and write speeds of 140+ MB/s advertised. These figures usually apply to new disks and without trimming after some time these figures may change to something like 200+ R and 50+ W. It is this slow down in Write speeds that kills the benefit of SSD's. Trimming has gone a long way to solve that issue by around 90% but not all SSD's have the trimming function and when using raids, the number of controllers that support trimming is still very small.
The WEI is not a real good measure of performance. For instance the Velociraptor is always 5.9, despite being a very fast and capable conventional disk. If you were to use WEI to measure the performance of another disk or array, things would look completely different, like below:
This is a run with an overclocked i7-920 at 3.6 GHz with only 12 GB 1333 memory, running @ 1500 MHz, and a large raid30 array.
BTW, loading PS in 3 seconds in pretty normal for conventional disks as well. It is about 2 seconds on my Velociraptor. -
Finder extremely slow after apple+I (import) or Apple+O (Open) commands

I have a problem with the finder. Whenever I click Apple+I (import) or Apple+O (open) in any application it will take up to 2 minutes for the finder opening window to show up. (the window where i can choose a file etc)
I have heard that my self updating idisk might cause this - yet I have already set it to manual updates. And this still happens regularly on 2 different Powerbooks 1.67 Ghz (one of them bought in May, the other in December 05)
any ideas as of how to solve this??

EnnoIt's not because the iDisk is set to self update, but rather because the iDisk is mounted. Unmount the iDisk (drag it to the trash), and then try doing Open or Import. I bet it will be much faster.

Safari keeps crashing immediately everytime about 30 sec after opening please help

Are you on band 13 or band 4? 13 is the original LTE band and remains relatively congested. Band 4 is the XLTE band and is less congested and has higher overall potential bandwidth (15 MHz vs 10 MHz). Even so, 7 Mbps is more than enough for doing stuff on your phone and is not considered slow.
To check band,
dial *3001#12345#*
select serving cell info
frequency band will say 13 or 4
FInd an area with band 4 and retest. -

(1) How to find the session that runs a slow query?This can be coming up from the wait events that the sessions are waiting for.So you can check V$session_wait to see that which are the sessions which are waiting for some thing to happen and for that reason have become slow.Also you can take the advantage of ASH in 10g to tell you the same if you want to drill down your search for last few minutes.
(2) How to locate / find this slow query so that the query can be tuned?IF you read Optimizing OralcePerformance, this is the first thing that Carry asks to address and take extreme caution in doing it.Ask the user that which business process is slow.It will vary depending upon the business.There is nothing called ,"we are slow" and there is no such thing that "tune it all".We have to tune the main area or the maximum benefit giving area only.Ask the user which query/report he is running which he wants to get optimized.You can also take advantage or statspack/AWR report to go for the particular query depending upon the wait event.If you know the query than trace the query to see what is happening.I shall suggest 10046 trace forthe query as its more wider and imparts mch more info as compared to tkprof but you can pick what you want/like.

I have about 10 songs in my "purchased" folder that iTunes says it can"t locate, how do I find them? I have tried Finder- Music no luck.

One song at a time. Open the Wish List, and click on the price for the song.

I open Finder, and when I open a folder, it takes about 3 seconds to display what's in this folder!

Also, If I delete a file, it takes 3 seconds to del it. Paste a file, 3 more seconds to paste!

"The way to fix the five second openning on the folders. Jack the double mouse click speed to the highest setting. The higher the double click the faster the folders in the finder open. Sounds crazy, but it work for me. When set to a low setting the folders in the finder take about 3-5 seocnds to open. I sent bug reports to Apple."

Finder extremely slow over Airport Network after updating to 10.4.11
Hi, I have a problem with 10.4.11. Since I upgraded, about two weeks ago, I experienced an intolerable slowdown of the Finder over my Airport network. When trying to access folders and files located on my Powerbook (PowerPC G4) from a Mac Mini (also PowerPC G4) over the network the Finder stops, sometimes for minutes before opening a folder or copying a file.
When I tried the reverse, e.g. accessing the desktop Mac Mini from the Powerbook (which still runs 10.4.10) all worked fine, in reasonable time.
Do anybody have a similar problem? How can it be cured?

PieroI have the exact same issue, and so does my sister, who has an iMac on the same network. Did you ever find a solution?
At this point, it's so annoying that I'm thinking of downgrading to 10.4.10. Does anyone know if this will fix the issue and what the ramifications of downgrading might be? Anyone know where 10.4.10 can be found? -
About a month ago I couldn't access 100s of pix from my iPhoto library. I then went through the process of "re-finding" all missing pix. I 2x checked that they opened. Now, I'm having the same original problem! What's iPhoto doing with my pix? Is there a "batch" fix?
Try rebuilding the library.
Hold down the Option and Command keys then launch iPhoto.
Select: Repar the iPhoto Library Database
Click Rebuild. -
my iMac has been slow to respond for about 6 months and it is getting worse, beach ball is here a lot I have tried a few different things and nothing works. i am not sure if i need to take to an apple store or what any tips or suggestions would be appreciated
