Finder Issue in 10.5.1 No scroll bar, blurry contents

I am a sysadmin at a local Community College, and am running into a problem when viewing items in a Windows Share from any Mac running Leopard (10.5, or 10.5.1)
Basically in the "Column View" when I am trying to scroll down, all file icons and names become blurry, and unreadable. Well, Actually at first there is no scrollbar at all, and then after tugging at the corner for a second, the scrollbar appears. This only happens when there are quite a few items in a particular folder on the windows share. After this occurs, you cannot salvage the column view. You must switch to another view.
This only occurs in the column view.
Any idea on a resolution for this outside of just using coverflow, and the forward and backwards buttons?

I am using the Airport Extreme 802.11n at 5Ghz
All access is wireless.
Your file transfer speeds are in the Megabytes-Per-Second range. If you look at any movie (HD or not) you will rarely see much more than one megabyte every 10 or 20 seconds. So your network is easily fast enough.
I am playing MP4s and DIVX files. I can also stream MKV if I play using VLC.
As you spotted VLC lets you increase the buffer size. That might be an issue.
For DIVX in Quicktime, make sure you are using Perian.
One additional idea is to increase the streaming buffer space on the Mac.
This article
http://devroot.org/2007/05/01/optimize-network-throughput-on-your-appletv/
Shows you how. But I am not convinced that is the problem.
One more question. How are you connecting to the Airdisk. AFP or SMB?

  • Scroll bar in Content Viewer

    Hello everyone,
    I have place three different height images into a frame and applied scroll bar using Content viewer. I am calling each image through a button.
    My question is:
    Can we control the scroll bar height limiation as per the image's height. Right now its taking the largest image's height as a reference, when i click and check the small height image, i see lot of white space in it.
    Thank you very much.
    Regards,
    Shiva

    What do you mean you added a scroll bar? Do you mean a scrolling frame?
    If so, no, you cannot adjust the size of that dynamically. That said, I still don't totally get what you're doing.
    You can't click to move content in a scrolling frame, only an MSO.

  • Issue with div "s4-workspace" and scroll bar

    Hi,
    I have a standard publishing site, I just added an horizontal menu (the publishing site doesn't have it) but I'm experiencing a strange behavior:
    With my custom menu the div "s4-workspace" shifts down by the height of the menu and I cannot see the end part of the page content.
    I noticed this because I was looking at the workspace right scroll bar and I could not see the end.
    I copied my horizontal menu from the Team Site, where the menu is scrolling inside the workspace, but I want to keep it fix under the ribbon.
    I guess that it's a div displacement problem, but I could not find anything to fix it. I opened the nigthandday.css and the core4.css looking for some CSS style property, but nothing...
    This is what it looks like:
    <!-- Ribbon end -->
    <div>
    <!-- my custom menu -->
    </div>
    <div id="s4-workspace">
    Any help?
    Thank you,
    Nicola.

    If you look at the page, you will notice that the whole page doesn't scroll by default.  Only the S4-workspace and below scrolls.  This is done through the use of a Javascript.  Your problem is that you have inserted something between the
    div's at the top of the page and the S4-workspace div.  The javascript isn't aware of that and so it's not factoring in that height when it calculates how to scroll the page.  So you can never reach the bottom.
    To fix it you need to either remove the factors that cause the partial page scrolling and scroll the whole page or insert your menu into either the top of the s4-workspace div or one of the other existing div's at the top of the page.  Take a look at
    the following article for a more indepth explanation.

  • Scroll bar pushing content

    I'm building a site for my girlfriends illustration and some
    pages have more content than others and on these pages a scroll bar
    appears which pushes the content to the left which then makes going
    back to a page without a scroll give the site an inconsistent look.
    i'd like to know if there was a way to fix this. I don't want
    to force a scroll bar to appear on pages that don't need it, only
    for it to appear when needed and to not push all my content over.
    All the content is centered and thats how I'd like it to stay.
    I"m using Dreamweaver CS3 and am a complete novice so a
    simple explanation would be good

    it isn't up yet but here is the code of one of the pages.

  • On the right side of the br5owser there is a scroll bar, that scroll bar does not have any contrast and is almost invisible, can't find it ???

    Have seen some other questions similar to mine and they may be about same issue , but they say that the scroll bar vanishes, in effect it is still there but nearly invisible. Trying to click on it without knowing the exact location however causes the page to scroll uncontrolled. The other questions advised people to reset their browser to default but that didn't help at all. Have had this same issue for about the last 6 versions of firefox, all say in the 30s versions. Tried adding high contrast in Windows as an experiment but that didn't help at all either. Been trying help for some time and just now decided to ask my own question as other questioners may have given up or answerers may think it is resolved.
    In searching through help files it has led me to find a space based theme for the browser that I enjoy, but does not solve issue of course, so... all is not lost. Took a jpg of the image of the browser that shows the issue and am trying to upload it but looks like it is stuck in upload mode. Ugh "high speed" , anyhow maybe it uploaded and is not showing, the bar on the right is about 3/4 of the way down the side if you can see it, almost invisible.

    Did you try Firefox Safe Mode?

  • Scroll bar moved layout slightly to left

    If content on ALL of my site either did or didn't require a scroll bar, the transitions when clicking from page to page would all look smooth. Unfortunately I have some pages that are short (and so the browser displays no display bar) and other pages that are long, and when the scroll bar appears, my content gets moved slightly to the left.   I suppose I could just keep adding a bunch of new paragraphs at the bottom of my short pages until a scroll bar appears, but this problem is bugging me. I'd like to fix it the real way. To visualize this problem see attached pictures below.
    And here's some of the code that I think is relevant to my issue here.
    body {
        background-attachment: fixed;
        background-image: url(images2/palisades.jpg);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-color: #000000;
        background-position: center left;
        -webkit-background-size: cover;
        -moz-background-size: cover;
        -o-background-size: cover;
        background-size: cover;
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
    .header {
        width: 1000px;
        margin-left: auto;
        margin-right: auto;
        height: 50px;
    Below: the scroll bar pushes content slightly to the left.

    Actually, this one looks pretty simple.
    The first page shown is long enough to need a vertical scrollbar. When that scroll bar kicks on, the actual width of the page changes slightly, so the content (which appears to be centered) will shift to the left when the scroll bar appears.
    If it really bothers you (most visitors would never notice it) you can add a scroll bar to every page on your site (the pages that don't need it will pop up with a grayed out bar that doesn't allow scrolling) and your pages won't shift anymore if you add in overflow-y:scroll to the body tag css....
    body {
         overflow-y:scroll;

  • When and How to get the Text.ScrollPos value of a String control when scroll bar position changed

    Hi,
    I'm working on a feature triggered by scroll bar position of a string control changed.
    But I could not find a good way to catch the scroll bar position changed event,
    the scroll bar is controlled manually by mouse down → mouse move → mouse up, I want the get the Text.ScrollPos value when user mouse up, and compare with the maximum value.
    But the problem is,  mouse up on the scroll bar could not trigger String: Mouse up event!
    So I have to get the Text.ScrollPos continuously in the background in Timeout event, but I think it’s not efficient.
    Do you have any better idea on when to get the correct destination value of Text.ScrollPos?
    I plan to store the value of Text.ScrollPos in the bottom(maximum value) in a shift register, then compare the current Text.ScrollPos value with the max one.
    If it comes close to the bottom(90%~100% of the maximum value), then the close to bottom LED will turn on.

    Hello Cecilia,
    I don't think there is any build-in event for this.
    One solution would be to create your own user event at the initialisation of you main and launch a thread which is going to be pulling the value of your scrollbar position:
    Then you can build your main as if they were a scrollbar move event.
    And dont forget to close the thread and destroy the event at the end.
    Hope it helps.

  • Scroll bar disappears when screen scharing

    When screen sharing between my iMac (10.9.3) and my Mac Mini (10.9.3) the scroll bar in most (many? all?) applications disappears.
    With the finder, if one resizes a column, the scroll bar will reappear.
    With Preferences, such as iCloud, there is no way to get the scroll bar to reappear.
    However, I use a Kensington Trackball which has a scroll wheel. The Scroll wheel does scroll the window as expected AND while scrolling, the scroll bar will re-appear until use of the scroll wheel stops.
    Note that Prefernces/General is set to "Automatically based on Mouse or Trackpad"
    Message was edited by: William H. Magill1 - add system preferences

    No. The Mini is headless (the reason for using Screen Sharing).
    The iMac has a 102key Logitech Keyboad and Kensington Expert Mouse (trackball), which uses Kensington's Tracball Works software.
    I suspect that this is a real bug, simply because of the way the Finder responds.
    I've already submitted a feedback report.

  • Scroll bars within tables in dreamweaver cs4

    please assist am trying to create scroll bars for content to be placed inside a table, the content i have is to long for page lenght, am using dreamweaver CS4

    hi, osgood, thank for reply, i am novice and sorry but i still am not clear on what you mean, could you please explain in detail how to go about doing these scroll bars, greatly apprciate your time. :-/
    Hummm........ not sure how much clearer I can explain it to be honest.
    In your page where you need the scroll area to appear insert your mouse cursor.
    Then switch to code view. You should see your cursor flashing between two <td> | </td> tags, (the table cell)
    Where the cursor is flashing type in:
    <div id="scroller"></div>
    Then insert all the content that you need to scroll into the 'scroller' <div>
    <div id="scroller">Your scrolling content to be inserted here</div>
    Next copy the css below and paste it into the head section of your page directly before the closing </head> tag near the top of our page.
    <style type="text/css">
    #scroller {
    width: 300px;
    height: 200px;
    overflow: auto;
    </style>
    Change the width and height to whatever suits your needs.

  • Issue with Multithreading and vertical scroll bar - help needed to debug!!!

    I have been working on a desktop Visual Studio 2010 application for quite a few years. It is written in C++ and MFC. This code is a combination of code I have written and code I inherited. It worked great for years on Windows XP, but when I ported
    it to Windows 7, a tricky problem has come up that I am having the darnest time trying to figure out
    In summary, it is a single .exe desktop application. There is the main thread (thread A), which launches another thread (thread B). Both threads share a pointer to a single window object which displays events. This window also implements a vertical and horizontal
    scroll bar.
    The interaction and message processing between the threads seems a little sticky to me. Both threads A and B call the same member function of the CWnd object. BUT, Thread B ALSO posts messages to thread A's queue.
    So, in thread B, you will see code like this, which makes a direct call to the output window object, AND THEN it also posts a message to Thread A's mainframe window like this...
    if( m_pEventLog )
    pOutputWindow->AddLine("Some test...");
    if( m_phNotifyWnd[RECEIVE] && m_puiEventWMsg[RECEIVE] ) {
    ::PostMessage( m_phNotifyWnd[RECEIVE], m_puiEventWMsg[RECEIVE], 0, (LPARAM) pPkt );
    WHEN thread A receives the message that thread B posted above, it only does the following:
    LRESULT CMainFrame::OnSocketReceive( WPARAM, LPARAM lParam )
    CSPkt* pPkt;
    CRWPkt* pRWPkt;
    CSPktSocket* pSocket;
    ULONG ulType;
    CString csTemp;
    CBSWords bsWords;
    CSSSWords sssWords;
    CRWPkt* pLoopBackRWMsg; // used if we have to send a loopback msg back to sender
    CLMsg lmsg;
    m_wndTextWindow.AddLine("Test message");
    return 0;
    So both threads are writing to the output window via the .AddLine() member function.
    void COutputWnd::AddLine( CString& strLine, COLORREF crColor )
    UpdateVScroll();
    return;
    And this function then makes a call to :UpdateVScroll().  The problem seems to arise because thread B does a
    post to thread A, where thread A in turn writes to the output window. Eventually, the program
    HANGS in the call to
    SetScrollInfo() below...
    void COutputWnd::UpdateVScroll()
    CSingleLock lock( &m_CSVertScrollLock ); // lock things up while we are in here
    BOOL bok = lock.Lock();
    if (lock.IsLocked() == TRUE)
    int iMax = m_FifoIndices.GetHighestIndex();
    if( iMax < ( m_iMaxViewableLines - 1 ) )
    iMax = 0;
    //SetScrollRange( SB_VERT, 0, iMax, FALSE );
    //SetScrollRange( SB_VERT, 0, 9, FALSE );
    SCROLLINFO scrollinfo;
    scrollinfo.cbSize = sizeof(SCROLLINFO);
    scrollinfo.fMask = SIF_RANGE;
    scrollinfo.nMin=0;
    scrollinfo.nMax= iMax;
    SetScrollInfo(SB_VERT, &scrollinfo, FALSE);
    lock.Unlock();
    It doesn't take long for the program to hang...maybe about 10 seconds.
    When I hit DEBUG->BREAK ALL, I get the output below in the CALL STACK WINDOW.

    NOTE: If I never make the call to SetScrollInfo(), the program never HANGS.
    Sooo....I am trying to determine if there is a fundamental issue with the way the threads are communicating that is causing the issue, or if maybe I have a memory overwrite. It always hangs in ::SetScrollInfo(), no matter what I comment and uncomment. This
    makes me think that scroll bat behavior is different in Windows 7 than on XP, but I have not been able to find any documentation about it.
    Can anyone provide any insight as to what may be the cause of the program hanging>

    It might look like working but it will crash eventually. The windows are thread affine and other thread must never touch other threads windows. Sometimes you might get along but usually it just crashes.
    Thread B must use PostMessage ( or SendMessage if suncronous action is require) to thread A's windows to achieve correct updating. Some very basic calls are implemented directly with SendMessage so they are safe to use but then you must individually check
    which ones are safe.
    Also having multiple SendMessage calls from B to A require rendezvous which might cause other problems ( thread B stalls or program deadlocks, depending on other program structure).
    So PostMessage is the way to do it ( or create yourself another inter-thread mechanism, possible but usually too much troble)

  • ADF vertical table scroll bar issue when many records.

    Good morning!
    I am using Oracle JDeveloper version 11.1.1.6.0.
    I have a search form and a simple ready-only table displaying about 1 million of records.
    At the top of my search form, I have navigation buttons (First, Previous, Next, Last).
    So when I click for example on the Next button, my table will highlight the next corresponding row as expected.
    But here is the issue. When I click the Last button, the vertical scroll bar of the table does not scroll (automatically) to the end and display to me the very last row of my table.
    How can I achieve this? When I manually scroll to the last row, I would find it highlighted but I need the vertical scroll bar to react on Last and First buttons click even though I have a big number of rows.
    What should I do?
    Any suggestion will be very much appreciated
    Life.

    Hi Frank,
    I have found the answer. Here it is for anyone who would ever have or meet the same issue.
    In Jsf table property inspector
    I binded my table to my java bean (I called it myRichTable).
    I added the First and Last buttons as partial triggers of my table
    In java bean
    In my last() method I encluded the following line of code:  myRichTable.setDisplayRow(myRichTable.DISPLAY_ROW_LAST).
    And in the first():  myRichTable.setDisplayRow(myRichTable.DISPLAY_ROW_FIRST);
    Thanks!

  • Page shift due to vertical scroll bar issue

    I'm working through a vertical scroll bar issue in my design, using a ProjectSeven CSS page template. When testing the site in my browsers (FF/Safari/IE/Opera), and IF the scroll bar is not present, the entire page shifts to the left (the width of the scroll bar) when I click a link in the left column of my design. The page does not shift when the vertical scroll bar is present. Support at P7 suggested the following fix:
    html, body {
    height: 100.1%;
    margin: 0 0 1px;
    I've tried placing this markup in about ten different places but can't seem to find the right location in the code. Is it possible for someone in the forum to take a look at my page source and show me where/how to locate this fix?
    See my test site at:

    Thanks .  .  .  .

    PZ,
    I'd like to place the fix where you've suggested, but that's the whole issue.
    I simply don't know where my CSS ends (duh). Is it possible that you show me exactly where?

  • Annoying Finder Horizontal Scroll Bar

    I have an annoying Finder issue with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8 and maybe someone knows how to fix.  When I have a folder displayed, like the Applicaitons folder, with View opton set to "as List" the Finder displays a long horizontal scroll bar at the bottom that is active. How can I lock or anchor the horziontal scroll bar to the left side. It really gets to be annoying as you mouse scroll up and down the list.  I have the same issue in with Excel and Numbers. If it cannot be locked to the left, can it be disabled or deleted?

    I just made each item listed the min width and this let me resize the window to ditch the horziontal scroll bar. This helped but did not solve the issue on how to lock it to the left or turn it OFF.
    Thanks

  • Would an issue with Adobe Reader XI be the reason I would not have a scroll bar or another way to navigate a list on a website that requires Adobe?

    The publisher of our text books have an online resource we use to access materials that requires the use of Adobe Reader. For the past few days I have been unable to navigate through the site because there is not a scroll bar or any method to move through the list using the navigation bookmarks provided for that purpose.  I have spoken, at length, with the online support team at the publishing company, and we have tried many trouble shooting steps.  The technician I was working with also checked on the Adobe website to see if he could find anything else.  He and I are both at a loss.  As the problem doesn't seem to be on his end (the publisher, website, etc) or my end (my settings for PDF on my computer, version of Adobe, platform, etc.), I am hoping someone might have an idea of how to help solve this issue.

    My operating system is Windows 7,  I've tried both Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and the Reader version is 11.0.09.  In Chrome, the Adobe PDF plugin has been enabled and "always allow" has been selected.  The Chrome PDF viewer had been disabled.  The adjustments have also been made in Firefox to use Adobe Acrobat.
    I appreciate any help or advice you are able to offer.
