Finder Issues - List View, etc

I have been having some increasing issue with Finder (Won't close, etc).
For instance, Finder will not LIST VIEW files that are in the Documents folder (on the computer) Only icon or column view. It will list view items on an external drive.
I tried to reinstall the operating system (SL) but no avail. Any ideas? Thanks!

The only other thing I can think of that could cause this behavior is the DS_Store.
Let's try removing it. Launch Terminal.
Enter:
cd /
Press Return.
Next enter:
rm /.DS_Store
Press return
This should set your Finder back to default.

  • "Arrange by..." options are greyed out in Finder's List View.

    Hey there, just a quick one...
    I'm having trouble arranging my files/folders by Name, Date Modified, Size etc when in List View. This is fine in my regular Finder window but I clearly remember being able to do when (for example) Saving, Opening and all other popup Finder windows in earlier versions of OS X.
    I should also say that I do have TotalFinder installed but I believe it was a problem even without it installed.
    Here's a pic to demonstrate what I mean. In normal Finder windows there is a little drop down arrow when you hover, making each catagory a button essentially. This is what it looks like when I'm trying to Open, Save As or something similar... Greyed out, essentially. Problem highlighted in yellow.
    Any ideas, suggestions or general help you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Could it be just somethign as similar as a System Preferences option or even holding down a key etc? Cheers.

    Click the Arrange button on the toolbar and select the desired option.

  • How do you PRINT a Finder window list view?

    Hello all.
    I think a long time ago in OS9, we can open a new (Finder) Window, switch to 'List' view and print the window, so that we can see all the nested folders, etc.
    Can we/How do we do this in OS X? Can't seem to find a Print command...
    Thanks and cheers

    Press the Shift, Command, and 4 keys, followed by the spacebar, click in the window, open the png on the desktop, and print that.

  • HELP - computer doesn't keep icons in list view, etc from one day to next

    Every day when I turn on my MAC (at work), the settings from the previous day are gone. I prefer my files/folders to be in "list" view, but they are always in large icon view and scattered all over the window. Each day I have to change every folder I open to list view manually. How to I get my computer to remember my settings so that I don't have to change it each day? our "expert" computer guy here at work has no clue, just saying it should automatically remember it, but it won't. Other areas where the same type of thing is occuring: I use InDesign everyday and always want my documents in inches. However, it usually defaults back to picas so when i open a new doc each day, i have to go in and change the settings back to inches. Also, any folders I click on open up a window so large it runs from the top to off the bottom of my screen. i have to go to to Window>Zoom Window so it gets back on the screen where I can size it down. All these things, although minor, are just such a hassle to have to do every single day. any advice is very welcome!! I am by no means advanced on a MAC, so please break things down for me as best you can.

    First: Send Apple a Feedback. This has been an issue since the first days of X and is still not corrected in Tiger, from the posts I see there. Apple needs to know it matters to you. Click on "Discussions" at the top of this page and then look at the bottom left of the list of forums that comes up
    Second: You did send that Feedback, didn't you. In the same corner is the link to the Users' Tips Library. In it—you'll have to do a search—is the tip from Scott Radloff "Making Finder Views Persistant" [title may not be exact] that you want.
    Briefly, Apple's overlay of X onto UNIX broke down here. The 'ownership' of the problem windows belongs to one of those greyed out users like "eppp" and "mysql" that you see under your shortname when you look at Details in a Get Info… window on a file. UNIX needs them, so you need them, but you don't need to defer to their idea of what a perfect window looks like. Not if you're willing to become "root" the superuser and tell them how-to. That's Scott's tip, and do be warned: Rootness is all-powerful, and you must use those powers only for good and immediately renounce them when your task is done.
    Now, what were you going to do first? Good luck.

  • Inconsistent and incorrect file icons in finder window list view

    I have been seeing incorrect file icons in finder windows noteably for PDF files the last couple of weeks on my office MacMini running 10.5.8. Some just look messed up. Some switched and looked like Evernote files, but they open correctly in the default application - Preview.
    Get info would show the same incorrect icon, but correctly show Preview as the default application.
    Just now I tried clicking on CoverFlow view and when I went back to List view, the icons looked correct again.
    What type of system maintenance if any is needed to correct this issue? Note, these files continue to display correctly on my home iMac where these files are synced.

    Thanks for the reply Baltwo.
    I followed your directions. After the restart the PDF icons were all displayed correctly.
    However, some .doc file icons were blank. Selected one, got info, set it to open with MSWord and then clicked "apply to all." Most, but not all now display the Word logo. Some remain blank, although get info reveals they are set to open with Word. Will another restart fix this or is there another suggestion?
    I will be away from this computer till Monday.

  • Lookup Column Issue - List View Threshold exceeded

    We use Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and we have 2 Lists in a site. Those are:
    1. Customers List.
    2. Sale Invoices List.
    Customers List has Title field as Unique & Indexed Column.
    Sale Invoices List has a lookup column (i.e., Customer) from the Customers List (Title).
    My issue is:
    Customers List has just crossed 5000 items. When I try to add a List Item in Sale Invoices List (where I have Lookup Column from Customers List), it throws an error as given below:
    Error Message:- This is a lookup column that displays data from another list that currently exceeds the List View Threshold defined by the
    administrator (5000). To add items to the current list, please ask the list owner to remove this column.
    I have increased temporarily the List View Threshold Limit to 6000 Items. It’s working fine now.
    Is there any solution to fix the issue without increasing the List Items Threshold Limit?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Sri,
    If this activity (adding item) is done programmatically, then we can set
    SPList.EnableThrottling = false
    but this approach is not recommended though.
    Please let us know if this fixes your issue.
    Thanks,

  • What happened to Finder's List View?

    Back in Leopard, I used to be able to click on Name to get a folder sorted by Name (acsending) click on it again for descending order. Same with other columns showing. I used to be able to drag out the column width of names to actually read long filenames (IIRC) wow- how useful that is.
    Can't do any of this in (bug mecca) Lion... and suggesetions?

    So to return a list view to old state where above is possible I need to goto the "Change the item arrangement" Drop down and set it to none.

  • Sub-Folder View Icons Missing in List View (Finder)

    Since upgrading to Lion, the arrows in Finder for viewing sub folders has disappeared from Finder in list view and cover flow. At first, I just figured it was another nice feature of OS X they decided to kill off, but I was looking at my boyfriend's computer, and his still has the triangle icons, and he's using Lion.
    I've tried a few things to try to fix it, but nothing seems to help. Using the Command + right arrow key combination causes some weird glitch folders to appear below the folder I'm trying to view the contents of. The names of those folders is always stuff like "Folders", "Applications", "PDF Documents", among others. Here's a screenshot of my Finder view, and those odd folders:
    Does anyone know how to fix these issues? Thank you for any replies. =)

    Wow, Woolgatherer was right on on this one! What was bugging me, besides not having the up/down sort arrow buttons in the columns, was I was backwards on the arrangement. In essence, when I had the arrangement in "Kind," the items were from "z to a" instead of "a to z." The arrangement view is nice to look at, because it separates the types of items into groups, but you can not reverse the order quickly.
    If you do as Woolgatherer says, and turn off the "Arrange by" to none, and then the folders display the up/down arrows to go in alphabetical order from top to bottom or bottom to top. Once you toggle the header arrow, then you can actually go back to "Arrange by" to "Kind," and it is in the opposite order. What I mean by this, if you sort from the header "a to z" and then go to the Arrange by "Kind," it is now in the order of "z to a." This is very weird.

  • How to print list view of Finder window

    I want to print a list of the contents of a disk or a folder, just as I see it in the Finder's list view. How is this done in Tiger? In some older versions of the OS there was a menu command for this operation, something called Print Directory, I think.

    There may be more user-friendly ways of doing this, but here's one way:
    Open Terminal (in the Utilities folder).
    Use "cd" to change directory to the folder you want to print
    eg cd /Users/myuser/Documents
    Use "ls" to list the contents to a file
    ls -al > filelist.txt
    You can then open the filelist.txt file from Finder in TextEdit and print it.

  • Stop Finder headers from moving list view

    I'm new to mac so thanks for advice! Everytime I resize a finder window list view the headers (date mod, size kind) keep moving to the right. Then when I resize the window smaller I lose headers ,have to enlarge and drag back to the left. More annoying when I open a folder almost everytime my headers are out of frame... ugh... slowing me down.

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communites and to your new Mac.
    When you resize a window to make it wider it will operate in two ways:
    - While there is a scroll bar at the bottom of the window it will reveal
      the hidden columns to the right.
    - Once the scroll bar is gone it will expand the name field.
              (The name field is the most variable one, given you can have really long names.)
    If you don't like the width of any of the columns you can grow or shrink them by grabbing the faint bars between the headers.
    When you open a sub-folder, its window will inherit the attributes of the parent window.
    If you resize a sub-folder window and use the back-arrow, the parent folder will inherit the child’s attributes.
    The next time you open a top-level folder it will remember the attributes from its previous use.
    If you want to change which and how columns are displayed, open a folder and go to View > Show View Options.
    Hope this helps.

  • Shortcut to close multiple folders in List View

    In the Finder, in list view, I have multiple folders open (using the triangle by the Folder name). I'd like to be able to close all the open folders at once. I know that holding Option while clicking the red Close button on a window will close multiple windows and I want to do something similar with the folders.
    I'm sure I knew how to do this once but can't remember now.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Command-click or otherwise select all of them, and then push the left arrow key.

  • How can I fix the calendar list view - it repeats days and misses entries

    My iPhone has started to repeat days when I look at it. Some of those days have complete data for the day, other miss out lots of appointments.
    I get this problem only in list view.
    This month, as I scroll down the dates, i get 4th sept, 5th, then back to 4th, 5th, 6th, then back to 5th, then 6th, then 5th...
    The data on each day varies (some entries missed, some repeated every time the day appears)
    All the data is correct on my mac and on other views on the phone.
    My data is synced over cloud and I share some of the calendars with a couple of other icloud users.
    It is very annoying as I find the list view such a good way to look at my calendar. Any suggestions for a fix welcomed as turning it off and on and turning icloud syncing on and off has not helped.
    Thanks

    I am replying to my own post here as I seem to have fixed the problem.
    I do have some calendars that are shared. Some of those are shared with users who have time zone support turned on. So i activated time zone support on my iphone, then deleted my icloud subscription. I then signed in to icloud again and voila... problem solved.
    It is a weird one as the other calendar views were always fine and when you opened an event that appeared in the wrong day (on list view), the correct date of the event was shown in the information...
    one more bug in a complicated system I guess

  • How to add appointment in calendar list view

    How do I add an appointment to my calendar list view now?  I used it constantly and I know to touch the magnifying glass to find the list view, but I need to be able to add my appointments too.  Is there a setting to change?  Thank you.

    Hi Karim,
    When you create a mobile project un Eclipse using the wizard, you have something like this:
    createContent : function(oController) {
      return new sap.m.Page({
      title: "Title",
      content: [
    Now you can add your button in two ways:
    createContent : function(oController) {
      return new sap.m.Page({
      title: "Title",
      content: [new sap.m.Button("myButton", {
      text:"my button"})
    Or:
    createContent : function(oController) {
      var page = new sap.m.Page({
      title: "Title"
      page.addContent(new sap.m.Button("myButton", {
      text:"my button"}));
      return page;
    And if you want to run the same application on mobile and desktop, you should use the sap.m library. It's responsive and works really well in both devices.

  • List view item display time is taking too much

    Hi,
         I am working in a sharepoint2013 project. In our project , list view item display time is taking too much in IE8 sp2013 64 bit environment. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Nabhendu

    Hi Nabhendu,
     We had something similar with our SP2013 and IE8 32-bit. It seems that IE8 was in Compatible mode which make it IE7, which is unsupported by SP2013 due to HTML5.
    Issue : List view especially datasheet view which has been moved from ActiveX to HTML5 had very slow response on SP2013 and IE8 32-bit.
    Resolution : Try Chrome and see if its CSS/Masterpage or SP2013 issues performance issue.
    We deployed masterpage and css which was used in our SP2007 site with minor changes, but later we figured out that we need to make major changes in order to work with IE8 and SP2013.
    Try Indexing Columns.
    check how many look up columns are used.
    Hopefully that may help you..
    Thanks,
    Parth
    Thanks and Regards, Parth

  • I cannot switch to ios7 calendar list view

    I've read all the posts that say to just tap the Search icon. I've done that...it flat out does not work...tap...tap and hold... Not!
    I've done a hard reboot...no love.
    No matter what I tap, the list view will not come up. Every time i touch or tap the search icon, it acts just as the search does in any app...it brings up a search box and the keyboard.
    I'm at my wit's end... any ideas?
    Thanks
