Finder keeps prompting a 'Restore Windows'
After installing Lion, Finder went nuts and started prompting a 'Restore Windows' warning. I've tried everything but but just doesn't go away... Other programs work but Finder. I'm in the process of reinstalling Lion again from Recovery.
If anyone has had the same problem please advise me. Thank you
I'm afraid that deleting Trash didn't help me.
We're still getting the loop of Finder crashing and restarting with the "Restore Windows" prompt which disappears before we can click on an option.
Currently using Spotlight to run commands like Console !
I've tried Repiaing Permissions and restarting with the Restore Windows button unchecked to no avail.

I have the iPod classic 80 GB and iTunes keeps prompting me to restore my iPod. I have, several times. I have done the 5r's and when I connect it still wants to restore. I cannot get past this. Do I have any options?
Maybe this...
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

Finder keeps crashing on login window
Hi,
I have a 27" 2011 iMac 2.7GHz i5. Running Mavericks 10.9.5. Ever since we had a power outage 3 months ago, my computer has acted awful. Shutting down randomly or when using heavy memory intense programs like photoshop. Ran disk utilities several times to fix issues that would not repair the first few attempts.
I setup Time Machine on an external and that took about a week before I could finally get a complete back up without it restarting during the process.
The problem today is the finder keeps crashing at the login window. So it takes me 10+ tries just clicking on a user to get into a user account. You click on a user icon, then the screen goes white and comes back to login. Sometimes it spins and comes back, sometimes it shows spinning beach ball.
I took the computer to Apple store and they told me I had bad 3rd party ram. The ram has been in it since 2012 with no problems. So, I put new ram in it and it still does the same thing. Oh, and it went blank while I was typing this and back to the login screen. Luckily this site autosaves your post.
I also saw posts to delete finder prefs. That file does not exist in my preferences folder...com.apple.finder.plist, nothing with the word finder shows up in the prefs folder. These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -

Finder keeps quitting while trying to restore its windows
My Finder keeps quitting and a window pops up telling me that the "Finder has unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows." The window doesn't respond when I click either "Restore Windows" or "Don't Restore Windows", instead it keeps flashing on/off and the Finder icon bounces up and down in the Dock. The computer still seems to be able to work all other applications. I've run Disk Utility, and it says the hardrive is OK, so I figure the Finder has become corrupted. How do I go about fixing this when Apple no longer provides OS cds to reinstall the operating software? Can anyone help?
There seems to be two reports: the first one, the the second seems to duplicate over and over every second. There's the first, then followed by the second. There doesn't seem to be an "Anonymous UUID". I hope I'm providing what you are asking for.

My finder keeps on jumping. Nothing is working.
My finder keeps on jumping. There is a permanent flashing message, finder quit unexpectedly. Restore window or not. Nothing is functioning in my user account. The two others are working normally.
I had the same thing happen to me last night.. I had it plugged into my computer and it was synching while i was doing other stuff on my PC.. when it was done i un plugged it but on my touch it was frozen, still said Docked with that little image.. I tried everything, turning it off, plugging it back in to my computer but nothing happened... I didn't want to restart, wiping the zen touch clean and starting over.. that's waaay too much work.. what i did was just left it on my floor and went to bed.. in the morning i picked it up and noticed it was off.. I'm guessing the battery went dead so i just plugged it into the adapter and it seems to be working fine now.. I'm not really sure though, I left it plugged in to charge and I'll check back on it when I get home... so hopefully no more problems... but I just want to know.. what caused that problem?

Cannot stop "restore windows" dialog box from flashing. Please help!
Finder not working! Bouncing finder icon and flashing 'restore windows' box are driving me slowly insane. I tried a few tricks like rebooting Lion 10.7.5 and deselecting "restore' in prefs but nothing has worked. Haven't found right terminal command yet either. I shut down my Mac with Safari open and maybe Google Chrome also, and when I turned it back on...my odyssey began. If you have ANY suggestions your help would be greatly appreciated.
I got the same problem: I just purchased Office 13. When I tried to open a Word file that came viaOutlook I got the dialog box "Word can't open this file because a dialog box is open" but when I clicked further it opened the file OK and gave
me the option to remove "Protected View" which I did and everything was OK. I called MS Support and the person who answered had a very thick accent that I could barely understand. When I told him my problem he did not understand it and said the program
is trying to prevent me from opening viruses. I asked, why didn't it say instead of giving me the "open dialog box" error message? He had no answer and suggested I buy Microsoft support for $149 a year of $99 per incident. Great customer service,
eh? Then I tried this solution by unchecking "Enable Protected View for Outlook Attachments" in the Trust Center and the Word files opened normally. I am very disappointed in Microsoft but thank Mike_obe for his excellent help

IFolder keeps prompting upgrade after OES2 SP3
Hi everyone,
After applying OES2 SP3 our iFolder server keeps prompting upgrade on
Windows XP clients. It suggests upgrading to 3.8.0.4 but when you let it
run, it shows windows installer options install and uninstall, there is
a space where the upgrade button should be. Neither option works.
I've also downloaded from the web server page the ifolder client, but
doesn't seem to be that version number.
Is there any way to disable the annoying prompt?
Thanks,
Miguel.Originally Posted by mcando

Thanks,
Miguel.
Section 6.12 of the iFolder 3.8.4 Admin Guide lists a way to disable the upgrade prompt.
Edit the unix-version.config, mac-version.config, and/or version.config (aka windows-version.config) files located in either /opt/novell/ifolder3/lib/simias/web/update or /opt/novell/ifolder3/lib64/simias/web/update.
Replace the <version> </version> section of the .config files with the level of client your users already have. Then they should not be prompted to upgrade.

My Finder is going crazy. Keep getting a message saying it quit unexpectedly and asking if I want to restore windows, but I can't get it to stop. buttons don't work.
Something else you can try.
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates. -
The finder keeps flashing "restore windows or don't restore windows
does anynone know, why the finder keeps flashing and saying that the restore windows (Don't restore windows or Restore Windows)
Try this.
1. click on "spotlight" on the top right corner of your desktop.
2. type "terminal" (without the quotation marks) and open it.
3. when the terminal opens, type "cd desktop" and hit enter.
4. type "rm -rf .DS_Store" and enter
5. type "exit" and enter
If it doesn't work try the follow:
1. click on "spotlight" on the top right corner of your desktop.
2. type "terminal" (without the quotation marks) and open it.
3. when the terminal opens, type "sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/" (This will empty your trash) and enter
4. type your administrator password. As you type, you will not see any character on the screen. Just type it and hit enter. (If you left your password blank, you have to make one by going to system preferences - users & groups - change password)
5. type "exit" and enter -
I keep getting the error message "Restore Windows" When I click an icon on the desktop on my Mac Book Pro, it is not reaponding.
While holding down the option key, select "Go>Library" from the Finder. Navigate to the Preferences folder and you'll find "com.apple.finder.plist". Delete that file and restart.
Good luck,

Was following prompts to update my ipod to iOS6 and itunes says the ipod needs to be restored, but when I follow the prompts to restore it says it can't find the ipod? Any ideas?
Did you try removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using:

my mac mini finder icon keeps flashing a sign that said it had a problem restoring a window. It asks me if I want it to restore window, but it is unresponsive. My computer seems to be working fine when I go on to safari, but my desktop itself will not respond to any requests because the finder has taken over. I did download turbotax application yesterday... it seemed to go just fine. This might be the first time I have restarted my computer since then, though. Could the turbo have created this mess? My mini is10.7.5 intel 2.3 Ghz so the turbo tax should have been ok. The only other thing I did wierd was when I started up my computer this morning I sort of started iPhoto at the same time that I started its backup program so the two collided. Could that have caused this finder issue?
BD, I am unable to find the files you suggested I move to the desk top.
When I ran the SAFE BOOT the other day, and also ran repair permissions, I dont think it stayed in SAFE BOOT. I found no access to utilities when I was in safe boot - either I can't figure it out, or the machine wasn't letting me proceed due to the finder- I don't know which.
Today,As I was looking for the files you suggested I move (user/your user.......) to desk top, I did copy a few of the messages the mac was sending through utilities and console. I don't know if anything here helps, but I am copying a few clips below for you; it may be all Greek to you too, however. Thank you.

When I login, all of my desktop items are gone, the "Finder" icon is bouncing and a message asking to restore windows is blinking but unresponsive. I can't exit out of it. What do I do? I've tried force quitting, and it doesn't get rid of this message. When I login to my husband's account, this message does not appear.
Hey sunnyday7!
Here is an article that can help you address this issue:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3411
Additional Information
OS X automatically relaunches the Finder when it is quit. If the Finder is unresponsive, use Force Quit to relaunch it. Select Finder in the Force Quit Window or Dock, then click Relaunch.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

I've just installed Firefox on my laptop and keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get this message whenever I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon. I've never gotten it to work and even uninstalled it and then redownloaded it and still cannot get it to open. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Are you installing from the official site? http://www.mozilla.com/firefox
If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:
Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/

Xfce4 problems with second x?
Hello. I'm a bit confused here. Under Debian/Ubuntu, all one has to do after installing Xfce4 is type "startx". Simply enough, and unlike the Arch model I suppose as it apparently auto-configs everything for you. Now after installing Xfce4 in Arch, I
