Finder keyboard shortcuts switching apps - broken

Apple's finder keyboard shortcuts are overiding my app shortcuts.
For example:
In the finder... command-2 switches to Safari.
In the finder... command-3 switches to FireFox.
here is the problem...
In adobe illustrator the keyboard shortcut {cmd-2} should lock an element. In my case, it switches me to Safari even when the key command is used in Adobe Illustrator.
In adobe illustrator the keyboard shortcut {cmd-3} should hide an element. In my case, it switches me to Firefox even when the key command is used in Adobe Illustrator.
Why is this happening? It worked fine lst week.
Thanks, Tom
PS: Adobe Illustrator CS6.0.4. Mac OS Version 10.9.2

So my question is how to fix it? Or what is causing it? so I can fix it.

The look up in dictionary keyboard shortcut does not work.
    The Dictionary.app and widget works.
Even clicking on the menu item:
Safari > Services > Look Up in Dictionary works.
Under System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts
I have "Restore Defaults", toggled the Dictionary checkboxes, reassigned to another shortcut.
if i "Inspect" Safari in Activity Monitor, the "Open Files and Ports" does not list
    /System/Library/Components/DictionaryService.component
whereas, this component is listed on a Mac OS X box where the Dictionary does work.
    TIA!

the service is greyed out in Safari until i highlight a word.

  • Keyboard shortcut: switch between modules?

Hi all and thank you for your help.
I have checked through the keyboard shortcuts and could not fint it: Is there a shortcut to switch between the different modules in LR 3? It will be very handy if there is something like that.
    Thank you so long.

    Hi,
You can also add your own shortcuts either by editing (or adding) TranslatedStrings.txt in the relevant subfolder of the Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.4\Resources folder or by using the Keyboard Tamer plugin.
As an example, here is my own version of TranslatedStrings.txt which I added to the Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.4\Resources\en folder (this file doesn't exist by default for the english language - english shortcuts are hardcoded in LR) :
    "$$$/AgLibrary/Menu/Photo/RotateLeft/Key=Cmd+("
    "$$$/AgLibrary/Menu/Photo/RotateRight/Key=Cmd+)"
    "$$$/AgLibrary/Filter/Label/IncludeSubItems/Key=A"
    "$$$/AgLibrary/Menu/View/ShowFilterBar/Key=$"
The first 2 lines allowed me to fix a problem with the Rotate command because I'm not using an english but a french keyboard. The third line allows me to quickly toggle between include and exclude subfolder view in the Library module and the third one is the shortcut that allows me to toggle the filter bar.
You'll be able to customize your own version of TranslatedStrings.txt by looking at the same file in another subfolder. If your mother language is english, you'll have to look in the subfolder related to the foreign language you know best in order to have an overview of all the commands to which you can attach a shortcut (as mentioned above, TranslatedStrings.txt doesn't exist for the english language).

  • Can I delete a Finder keyboard shortcut?

I often use the keyboard shortcut Option-Command-1 in Safari to get to the Top Sites page.
Problem is, if I accidentally bring the Finder to the front and use that same shortcut, all my Desktop stuff is unintentionally rearranged, because this is the Finder shortcut for View->Clean up by->Name
I'd like to delete (or change) the Finder shortcut but can't seem to do it in System Prefs.
Can someone please explain how (if it's possible)?
    I'm using OS 10.8.5

You could remap the Finder -> View -> Clean Up By -> Name (or Arrange by Name) to a different keyboard shortcut.
    System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Application Shortcuts -> [+]
Select "Finder" as the Applications in the popup pick list
    Menu Title: "Name"
Keyboard Shortcut: Press the key combination you want as the new shortcut.
    See if that helps.
If that doesn't work, then consider getting a HotKey utility.  If you have a trackpad, I would suggest BetterTouchTool, as it will also allow you to create lots of Trackpad gestures of your own.  Then map Command-Option-1 to whatever you like when in the Finder.

  • Finder Keyboard Shortcut to Jump between Sidebar and Items

Is there a keyboard shortcut to jump between the sidebar items? E.g. "Documents, Downloads, etc." and the Documents themselves e.g. "Document A".
I've been searching for one for sometime, and there didn't seem to be any immediate solution.
    Thank you!!

Hi, I wish there was but there isnt. The best thing you can do is press the F4 key and it opens the windows you have. so you could open up 2 different finder windows and just F4 back and forth

  • What keyboard shortcut switches between Firefox windows?

Specifically, what keyboard shortcut (if any) will switch between windows on OS X Mavericks? Does it also work if the other window is currently minimized? I'm running Firefox 32.

On Mac you should be able to cycle through open Firefox windows via (Shift) Cmd + ~ (Tilde) or possibly accent (`)

  • Finder keyboard shortcuts not working (cmd-c, cmd-v, cmd-a)

All of a sudden, the edit menu cmd functions are not working, such as cmd-v, cmd-c, cmd-a.
    Cmd-p still works.
Using a bluetooth keyboard, all the commands work.
But the built-in keyboard will not work for these functions, even under a newly created user account.
    Thoughts?

Have you tried searching for Cut in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog? Perhaps is somehow got assigned to a new command.
you may also want to try deleting your preferences. Hold down Option+Shift when launching Premiere.

  • Can`t find keyboard shortcuts in EN_GB cs5 folder for AI.

normally the keyboard shortcuts save to this folder EN_GB for CS5 AI.. as a file named KBSC KYS file.
I cant locate it now either in the cs5 or cs4 directory which used to have the same...
    any ideas where its gone?

I think I found it, its no longer titled KBSC but the icon reads "prefs" and grey text  "adobe premiere keys" for some reason..
there are the "illustrator defaults", and my custom shortcuts titled "marks",
I dont know why the icon title has changed though, for CS4, perhaps this happened when I installed the upgrade for CS5, can`t think of any other reason.
as its the same in the CS5 en_GB folder.
When I pasted the CS4 "marks" into the CS5 en_GB folder, they worked as my shortcuts in Ai CS5...

  • DW CS6 where to find keyboard shortcut to insert li tag?

Hi, before updating to the latest CS6 build (I think, certainly in DW5/5.5) I used to be able to define a keyboard shortcut to insert an li tag (and select that from the menu) - I used this all the time. I can not now see where I can define a shortcut to do this anymore (or a dt or dd for that matter). Either I am going blind, or it is a new bug. I hope it is the former and someone can tell me where it is. Thanks for any help!
NB: Update - I notice from here (http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/dreamweaver/using/changes-insert-options-creative-c loud.html#main-pars_text) that Creative Cloud CS has had Insert > Tag (and others removed) making it LESS functional to me than non-cloud CS6 and CS5.5. Who was the brain behind that decision?  Is the idea to get people to buy both offline and cloud versions and so make even more money? I thought Creative Cloud was the "ultimate" offering?

As you've already noticed, the Text category has been removed from the Insert panel/bar and Insert menu. As a result, you can't assign a keyboard shortcut to <li>, <dt>, or <dd>.
However, you can assign keyboard shortcuts to <ol>, <ul>, and <dl>. They're in the List submenu of the Format menu. Once you have inserted a list, just pressing Enter/Return should create the <li> items. In the case of a definition list, pressing Enter/Return creates <dt> and <dd> elements alternately.

    Hi betsi.vesser, regarding:
<blockquote>When you go to the Mac folder, it gives you a large variety of folders that have 2 or 3 letter names, none of which make any sense to a novice user. </blockquote>
I thought you meant on your computer, but I realized you mean on the FTP server. Those are language codes. For English, look for the choices that start with "en" and have your preferred country code.

  • [TV@Master] MSI Radio, keyboard shortcuts

I'm using MSI Radio app and it's ok for me, just one thing I can't find - keyboard shortcuts to change memorized channels. I really need it so if anyone knows... please. Thanks in advance!

I found it! It's [CONTROL]+[ALT]+F and while holding these buttons you have to select which memory number you want with or direction key. Great, while I'm doing all these I still have 6 fingers free to do whatever I want

  • Is there a way to customize keyboard shortcuts in applications?

Some applications allow keyboard shortcuts to be customized, usually in preferences, but I'm wondering if there's a way to customize keyboard shortcuts in apps that don't have this feature built in.

from Apple's OS X Help Menu:
    Create keyboard shortcuts for apps
Assign your own keyboard shortcuts to menu commands in any OS X app, including Finder. This might be useful if a global shortcut, which works the same with most apps, conflicts with a specific app shortcut. In this case, you could assign a different key combination.
You can only create keyboard shortcuts for existing menu commands. You  cannot create keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an app.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Keyboard.
    Open Keyboard preferences for me
Click Shortcuts, select App Shortcuts, then click Add (+).
Click the Application pop-up menu, then choose an app. If you want to set the same key combination for a menu command that appears in many apps, choose All Applications.
If the app you want to select doesn’t appear in the list, choose Other, then locate it using the Open dialog. Some apps may not allow you to set keyboard shortcuts.
Type the menu command for which you want to set a keyboard shortcut in the Menu Title field.
You must type the command exactly as it appears in the Application menu, including ellipses and any other punctuation. To type an ellipsis, use three periods without spaces.
Click in the Keyboard Shortcut field, press the key combination that you want to assign to the menu command, then click Add (+).
You can’t use each type of key (for example, a letter key) more than once in a key combination.
Quit and restart any apps you’re using for the new keyboard shortcut to take effect.
If you assign a keyboard shortcut that already exists for another command or another app, your new shortcut won’t work. Find the menu command that’s using it, then reassign the keyboard shortcut for that item.
To remove a customized shortcut, click Delete (–).

  • Some keyboard shortcuts in Mail OS 10.9 don't work

Some keyboard shortcuts no longer work. Such as [option page-down] for moving down a page at a time of email subjects. Control Page Down doesn't work either. Others are wacky and give different results such as Function right arrow does the same thing as End and Function left arrow does the same thing as Home which is a bit redundant.
Did they change to a different combination of keystrokes are were they left out? Thanks to anyone that can find out.   -Derryl

  • Web inspector keyboard shortcuts

Hi all, I really like the Safari web inspector but I can't seem to find keyboard shortcuts for the main things I need it for.
    • Inspect element
    • Then, once you have inspected an element and you want to inspect another you need to click on the little magnifying glass
Maybe I could create these in system preferences or something? I'm sure I did something along those lines before...
    Any thoughts will be welcome!
    Thanks

    HI,
