Finder lists several versions of connected computers

I have a Mac mini on my network (Wi-Fi) but I find several versions listed in Finder as Bob's Mac mini, Bob's Mac mini(2) etc. What causes this and how can I fix it?
I am running OS X Yosemite on both. I also have several versions of my iMac listed as (2), (3) and (4). All of these are under the Shared section on Finder.

Hi, I had that very same problem. I think that the problem appears when you activate both ethernet and wifi network at the same time. The problem was solved for me when I turned wifi off on all computers in the network. This behaviour didn't show in maverick. Hope this will help. Also trying to use the same apple ID pwd login on several computers on the same network even if it concern the same admin acc, rises strange behaviour especially if you use iCloud keychain function. Also that setup restrict a lot what you can do regarding lock screen and login options. I had to disable all these new features to recover a healthy and fast computer with yosemite.

I used Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit for finding all SQL server instances a while ago.
Now I need to find filtered IE versions on AD computers. I am pretty sure that MAPT could help to accomplish that.

How do I find list of computers authorized on account?

Soooo..... I only have one laptop computer (running Windows 7). I was synching my iPad, and all of a sudden I was told that my laptop was not authorized (strange, because I have used it to synch with my iPad before). I authorized it, and was told it was now the second computer authorized. WRONG, it's the only computer ever authorized.
THAT's why I want a list of authorized computers. I suspect that I'll see the same one listed twice. And if Apple is going to randomly de-authorize my computer, and then increment the number of computers authorized every time I overcome this fault, then that's a problem! It's gotta be some kind of fraud if it can't be fixed. They license the softwarse (and sell the hardware) saying I can authorize 5, but I can now only authorize 4 for the rest of the year (or is it 8?), because I can only deauthorize and re-authorize once a year.
On the other hand, if someone sneaked in my house, symched with my iPad and broke into my account and authorized ANOTHER computer, I want to know that too, so I can de-authorize them, and call the police.
It's not like there isn't an electronic record somewhere, because how else is iTunes supposed to keep track of the computers authorized?

It seems that many (if not all) of my files have been replaced by older versions. I kind find the multiple versions (listed in the Search as in the same dir) and restore them but this is strange. There is no chance that another user here has done a restor

I am able to save and then overwrite in order to restore but this is strange. There is no chance that another user here has done any sort of system restore action (at least intentionally).

In a OS Extended (HFS) file system there is no way you can have two files with identical names in the same directory.
Of course who knows what spotlight is thinking of most of the time when it does its stupid searches (get Find any File instead) and lists its results? Are you sure it is listing the same directory or do you have a backup and it is finding it there and you aren't noticing it is two different volumes?
You could also try reindixing the volume. Add it to the Spotlight system preferences Privacy and then remove it.

Finder shows multiple versions of same shared computer

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite my finder shows multiple versions of my computer in the "shared" panel of each finder window. So, instead of just saying "Bedroom Computer," it says "Bedroom Computer," "Bedroom Computer (2)" "Bedroom Computer (3)," etc., five times in total. I've tried renaming the computer in the sharing System Preferences panel -- the newly named computer appears in the side panel, but the multi-numbered versions of the old-named computer remain in the list as well. They disappear if I turn off Wi-Fi, but re-appear when I turn wi-fi back on. Any suggestions as to how to get rid of these phantom computers would be greatly appreciated.

The Mac that was causing the issue isn't on the network at the moment so I can't say if restoring all my base stations has helped the initial problem, but now I see something new.

What I'm seeing is my Mac Pro listed in “Devices” and in “Shared” in my Finder side bar, and no it fails to connect to itself if I try.

Carrier issues, Iphone 3gs: Carrier is in the carrier list but does not connect = no service

Right introduction, I live in the country signal for iphones under 02 in my area is 3-4 bars of GPRS signal. This is plenty to make and receive calls, texts and all that as use home wifi for internet simple. Everything working fine for about a year of having the phone, then did updates and started to see the "no service" almost all the time and had to place my iphone in a signal spot just to get 1-2 bars and couldn't touch it without dropping out! Basically I could not use it at all and the crap about the signal now showing true signal is rubbish as before i could make calls fine and no drops, but now due to "no service" i can't make any calls or texts or anything. I have a ipod touch when nothing HAS CHANGED other than i can think when the update to 4.0 came along! I have been living with this for almost a year. I have done every possible solution, apple stores, 02 stores, new sim cards (many), every type of phone resetting possible, manually turning off 3g and other settings to turning everything off bar just basic GPRS signal. Network resets everything possible no joy what so ever.
I have been paying for a year now for a phone that i can't use anywhere other than right next to a signal tower! Yes the phone connects to GPRS, EDGE, 3G when in town but just about. Before these problems i could get max 3G signal in my local town no issues but now struggle to get 1 bar of 3g in a town as well. The problem is I used to be able to use my phone as a phone where i needed to use the phone. Now i can't use the phone anywhere and get drop calls all the time when i do manage to get signal!!!!!!!
Now i can't even connect to 02, yet at home under a manual carrier search all UK networks appear on the list including 02, I click on 02 and it comes up with the warning "network lost see settings" So my phone CAN find signal but does not connect to 02. This has been the case for a long time now and as stated before several sim cards latter and plenty of trips to apple and changes of phone make NO difference which makes me believe this is a software issue on apple's part. I only started getting these issues when the iphone 4 came out and updated the ios. Now what can i do, i can not downgrade the ios as i never jailbreaked my phone so don't have the files stored that i should to be able downgrade. Apple are offering 0 help with this, all i want to do is smash it to bits as it no longer works as a phone. I have to use a 10 year old nokia to call and actually use my contract that I PAY FOR. I PAID FOR MY PHONE and just after the warranty runs out as well and it seems all a software problem.
I have searched all over the net to find no solutions to my problems this is a last resort before i do actually smash the thing and I love apple to bits but come on a simple software issue.
I mean isn't it silly that i can't downgrade my ios and that apple don't support this and yet my issue seems to lie in there update.
I know that the signal update reworked the algorithm to show true signal XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX um no it doesn't as now i have 0 signal as before i had no problems what so ever with dropping calls and the signal showing right so WHY WHY WHY.
Please help I am so frustrated with things and need to solve this issue. Please ask anymore questions if you want more details about anything, i need to sort this out please.
By the way i am running ios 4.3.3 yet bellow in the options this is not stated?? I have been updating hoping that it gets solved but only seems to get worse the more i update.

Same problems, unfortunatley I updated to 5.0 1 hour before going on holiday for three weeks and no way to restore my phone to try to remove it.At the same time, drop outs, range problems and the most annoying was my music and apps were corrupted and would not function properly :-(

Finding a particular version of a document

Hi,
Today I intended to use a particular Numbers document that I update a few times a month. I had no luck finding the current version. The best I could do was a version several months old. I thought that perhaps I had been mistakenly saving the document to a slightly different filename, so I searched on content. Still couldn't locate the current edition using Time Machine.
Another thought is that perhaps I've been inadvertently saving to an external HD that isn't backed-up by TM. So far no success using finder on that external drive either.
Any general comments on search technique would be appreciated, particularly if there's a Numbers-specific issue that I'm not aware of. I do know the date of a version earlier this month, based on creation dates of PDFs that I always save as I update this Numbers file, but I'm not sure how knowing that will help. Looking in TM on dates near that time hasn't revealed anything.

Are you using approvals? Is it possible that your user (or someone else) promoted his Planning Unit, thus removing his ability to edit the data?
Can your user edit the data using an ad-hoc Planning connection (not form) in Smart View?

Need to find Xserve RAID version

This is a pretty simple question, I know, but we are having trouble finding out what version of Xserve RAID we have here. It was seemingly purchased in late 2005 or early 2006, and we have only been using one side of the RAID and now want to populate the other with as much space as it will allow. I found a compatibility list at this link (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1219), but we are not sure what column our equipment falls under.

There are several threads discussing which drives work out of the box - search the forums for the multiple threads about which drives work. The Seagate ST3750640A were the well documented 750s of choice but Seagate stopped making them a while (year and half?) ago and the competition for the remaining ones got fierce and the prices when very high if you could find them.
Last I heard drives were still available through Apple service but I have no idea what the requirements are - eg Do they need to be replacement drives? - or prices.
Sadly the death of PATA as a technology has severely hampered long term viability of the Xserve RAID. If you do find replacement drives be sure to balance the cost against the cost of a more modern system.

Find list of clients of 2008 Time Capsule?

How can I find the table or list of all machines connected to my router, whether by cable or wireless? My router is a Time Capsule about 5 years old. I have looked in Airport Utility, but not been able to find what I seek. Google has not helped.

I have and used Pacifist. I installed it to ~/Applications instead of to /Applications, but the installed name is Airport Utility 5.6, so it probably would not have overwritten Airport Utility.
You can install AirPort Utility 5.6 in the Utilities folder along with 6.x if you want.
How do I see clients with manually configured ip addresses?
They will be in DHCP Clients. But...if you have been making changes, restarting the AirPort, plugging / unplugging things, etc. the current DHCP leases need time to expire and then renew.
Check again tomorrow to see if the "lost" devices appear again once the current lease has expired and new lease has been issued.
Also, as long as 5.6 will work why would I want to use Airport Utility 7.6.3, unless I wanted to think I was an iPad?
There are a few things that the "new" AirPort Utility does better than the previous versions, but in general AirPort Utility 5.6 is a far more useful utility than AirPort Utility "Lite".

When run class that was compiled with jdk1.5,throw:
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError
How can i change the jre to 1.5?

There is a workaround to move from 1.5 version to the older 1.4 version. But this could be specific to the browser setting the JRE version.

My system (Windows XP) has the version 1.5_09 set as the default. However i just installed JRE 1.5_06 and would like to revert back to _06 as the default JRE..

This is also the case with HP Printer Software update 3.0 and Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.03. Clicking the "update" button for these doesn't appear to install the software, but lists it in the "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days" without removing it from the Software Update queue.

Thank you. I tried that and even gave it a few days to do its thing, but I still get the same results. Remote Desktop, HP Printer, Digital Camera all still appear in "Available Updates", but the same versions appear under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days". BTW, I had to manually install the Safari 8.0.4 update because it also wasn't updating.

Show Size of FOLDER in Finder List

Leopard OS X 10.5.4, nor previous editions, doesn't show folder size in Finder list. Only method to get size is right click and then "get Info". Is there any way to show sizes of folders as a list? Note, individual file sizes are listed, but not folders containing several files.
