Finder loading extremely slowly

Since upgrading to 10.9.5 I noticed that the Finder loads the contents of directories unbelievably slowly. I am not talking about a few seconds, but minutes. I am also not talking about huge folders but even for folders with just two items it has taken several minutes. After it has been loaded once, usually the next time loading the same folder is fast again. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm also experiencing this problem. I'm sometimes waiting up to 2p minutes for folders and their contents to appear. I don't get it. I get frustrated and quite the Finder multiple times, log out and back in--same problems. Someone suggests unmounting volumes. I've never done that. How do you do it?

I wonder if you have a large number of fonts or a corrupt font. You might try removing fonts from your system and see if that helps.
    Also, try deleting fcp preferences.

  • Engage 2008 dashboards load extremely slowly

    Hi there,
We have a number of dashboards built with 4.5 professional, and have migrated a bunch of them over to Engage 2008 (trial version).  Some things are great!  The xlf is much smaller and the published swf is smaller as well.  However, the dashboad load time has increased significantly!  What used to take 10 seconds now takes a full minute.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there a fix?  Have we missed a publish setting perhaps?
    Thanks,
    Rich

Hi RichThere were performance gains and some losses by moving to X2008.  It actually has a totally new underlying architecture and flex engine.  We are working to regain CX4.5 parity for most features.  Below is where we currently stand for the X2008 release.
    X5 faster than CX4.5.
    Application startup time.
.xlf  file size with same number of components.
SWF Load time (Open SWF in browser).
    Model creation time.
SWF speed when returning data from Live Office.
SWF speed when returning data from QAAWS.
    X5 same as CX4.5.
    .xlf  save time.
    Importing an Excel spreadsheet.
CPU usage (in Preview after generation).
    SWF animation speed.
.xlf stability with same components (e.g. no crashes).
Export to SWF and other formats time.
    X5 slower than CX4.5
    .xlf load time.
    Preview time (model being generated).
SWF file size with same number of components (bigger).
    Switching Themes and Color Schemes.
We are working on a service pack for July timeframe. And I can tell you that the load speeds are already faster. AndyXcelsius QA

  • Ever since I upgraded to firefox 3.6.15 the pages are loading extremely slowly, why?

I use a MacBook pro - about a year old and I have OS 10.6.6 installed. Ever since you pushed firefox 3.6.15 to me the pages are very slow in loading. Is it a cache problem? A second visit to the same page loads faster. sometimes it is slower than others and I don't know why. I have done a speed check on uploads and downloads and all seems to be fine.

I can get the photos to display in 3 columns if I do this:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Content
In the Fonts & Colors section, click the Advanced... button.
Change '''Minimum Font Size''' to '''None''' and OK out of Options.
But most people are not going to do that. I prefer a minimum font size of at least 10.
So... how to fix it. The way the thumbnails are sized is that they are 10em with a base font size of 5px. If the minimum size is set to 10px, the pictures double in height and width.
It would make more sense if the base font size in your stylesheet was larger. Can you edit it? If so, try doubling the font size and halving the relative image size:
    In http://languagesofourancestors.spruz.com/dhtml/corestyle/xstyle.css
    <br>/*All Cards Small*/
    .SUI-UserPic.small, .SUI-ImageCard.small, .SUI-VideoCard.small { font-size: '''10px''';}
    <br>/* User Pics */
    (4 lines down)
    .SUI-UserPic .SUI-CardImage { display: block; width: '''5em'''; height: '''5em'''; overflow: hidden; border: 1px solid #aaa; border-radius: 2px; -moz-border-radius: 2px; -webkit-border-radius: 2px;}
    .SUI-UserPic .SUI-CardImage img { width: '''5em'''; min-height: '''5em'''; border: 0 none;}
    .SUI-UserPic .PopInfo {line-height: normal; display: none; width: 140px; position: absolute; z-index: 2; top: '''4em'''; left: 0; margin: 0 auto;}
I think that will be more broadly compatible. There may well be some details I've missed, but hopefully this helps.
I don't know why the minimum font size wasn't applied this way in Firefox 3.6, but I suspect this is the new normal.

  • YouTube loads incredibly slowly...

So at first I thought it was YouTube that was loading videos slowly, but every time I try to watch a video, it either loads EXTREMELY slowly, or doesn't load at all.
    Help?

    Hi Caserluff,
Try testing on 3G, EDGE, and Wi-Fi. Does YouTube load slowly on other networks?
If the iPhone isn't already updated, update it to iPhone software 2.2.1.
You can check the version on the iPhone by tapping> Settings> General> about.

  • Firefox loads page at first start extremely slowly & while using suddenly loses its connection ability! How can I fix this?

I'm using Firefox 4.0 I did all the updates I could, I didn't change anything except the history preferences and from advanced -> network
    Whats happening:
I'm starting firefox, first time or second time I start doesn't matter, it brings every single page extremely slowly (google,facebook,mozilla.com etc)
after a while it loads the page, and after a little more while suddenly it loses connection and returns to first position
    bringing pages extremely slowly
It's not about my internet connection, I have a good one and other applications using internet are working perfectly (including IE)

Thanks for responding, David. Using <Esc> and <CtrlW> might reduce the time in returning to the other tab, but does little when the triggering of a wanton alarm is very frequent. The connections I have used were extremely reliable and fast. I am using at this moment a 54 Mbps WiFi connection that lives up to its ratings in downloading & uploading data; yet, as shown in the attached image, I still get this worthless alarm. I do not know if this problem happens with my regular ISP since I have been using this tiny notebook only when traveling -- will test that once I am back mostly for curiosity, but even then if then the alarm were not triggered this would be of little consolation, since other browsers do not have the problem right now).
As a moderator, I urge you to ask the Mozilla-powers-to-be why there is no way to turn off the alarm with, say, a true/false switch in about:config (mind you, there is still old-versions junk in this config list, so it isn't we are talking about amending the constitution). Complains about this fugly alarm can be traced in the web as far back as 2010 at least. Besides, what is the advantage of the alarm for the average user? When FF users are still posing amazingly basic questions in forums of Firefox or Mozilla support, such an alarm ought to be _off_ by default and should be an option of advanced settings menu. This annoyance shows how much the critical focus on keeping a simple GUI uncluttered by trivial or higher-level messages still needs to evolve for Firefox, which I have used it since it was known a Firebird. Guess will have to switch to Chrome now while abroad.
    Happy Holidays

  • 2012 MacBook Pro running extremely slowly with constant color wheel

I have a 2012 MacBrook Pro and yesterday it randomly began to function extremely slowly and has almost a constant color wheel. This does not just happen when on the internet, but happens with any function of my computer. Even the typing is lagging.
The following information might be helpful in attempting to find a solution:
-All of my updates are up to date
-I have tried turning off my computer and restarting it a few times, including trying it in SafeMode and there was no difference.
-My computer has never done this before.
-I did not have an abnormal amount of activity happening on my computer when it began to function extremely slowly.
Anyone have any ideas of what could be happening and how I can fix this?
    Thank you!

Are these typical problems that happen when there are problems with a startup drive or another hardware component?
    Yes.
When the slowdown is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Webpages loading very slowly??

I haven't made any changes to my connection lately, but it is now suddenly running very slowly. I'm running 10.4.11 with all updates. The Internet (Safari, Firefox, and Mail) runs very slowly and takes minutes to load webpages, and sometimes doesn't load at all. I have made changes to the router, but it didn't fix the problem. Any suggestions? Should I scan for viruses?

When websites don't load, I now get this "Road Runner Web Site Suggestion" site that I have never gotten before. This leads me to believe that it has something to do with the ISP.
Also, I don't lose or drop my wireless connection, it just loads web pages extremely slowly until the point where it sometimes goes to this Road Runner page.

  • Website loads very slowly in Safari....

I have had my website for quite a while and all of a sudden, when I try to view it in Safari, it loads very slowly and each time the welcome page loads, there are pictures missing. I have not done anything different to my site. Is this a problem with Mobileme or iWeb or both?? My site is captured4u.com
    Thanks

    First, not a bad page.
A quick analysis of the home page provides this information:
    Documents (4 files) 28 KB
    Images (33 files) 972 KB
    Objects (0 files)
Scripts (9 files) 291 KB (296 KB uncompressed)
Total 1300 KB (1305 KB uncompressed)
For Reference, Apple's current home page provides the following sizes:
Documents (2 files) 3 KB (9 KB uncompressed)
    Images (20 files) 143 KB
    Objects (0 files)
Style Sheets (2 files) 6 KB (30 KB uncompressed)
Total 250 KB (502 KB uncompressed)
The current MSN.com portal page shows:
Documents (4 files) 19 KB (52 KB uncompressed)
    Objects (0 files)
Scripts (7 files) 74 KB (158 KB uncompressed)
Style Sheets (3 files) 17 KB (65 KB uncompressed)
Total 228 KB (393 KB uncompressed)
I can't speak for past performance, but any page that is over a MB in size does take longer to load. A problem with your page is that you have an idea of how to add pictures and make the layout how you want it to look, but there is a price the viewer has to pay to download all of those graphics, including some of the text that are being converted to graphics by iWeb (which means Google can't read some of your categories for their index).
I don't find that iWeb does a very good job of optimizing graphics for the web. They work, but dedicated graphics programs like Photoshop or even Photoshop Elements will do much better when the files are resized and saved for web properly.
You would probably do better to simplify the home page with larger single graphics for each category that are used to point to other pages with more related photo's and descriptions. Remember, even the fancy picture frame outlines are more graphics the viewer has to load, and you need to be aware of when iWeb is going to convert your text into graphics either because you are not using standard web safe fonts, are rotating the text or adding other fancy attributes.
Design and optimization are always a compromise. iWeb is not always smart about optimization, and mobileme is not the best solution for speed. They're fairly easy to use, but go easy on them...

  • All videos load extremely slow

I have the Break app and the YouTube app and all videos load extremely slow on my ipod touch 5g. It makes it not worth trying to load any videos. I'm currently at work and the wireless here is limited to 1mb. But I have my ipod touch 3g sitting right next to me and it loads at the expected speed (based on the bandwidth cap here). Is the video quality increased automatically, sucking more bandwidth? I can't find any settings to change the quality though. This makes viewing videos not even worth trying.
I'm going to do some tests tonight when I get home which has a 8mbps average download for wired so my wireless won't be limited at all.
Anyone else experiencing any slowness isssues with videos?

Internet videos are becoming more bloated all the time.
Many things can affect it though.

  • Videos load extremely slow

I just bought this MBP a month ago.  Anytime I try and watch videos, whether it's on youtube, facebook, yahoo or anywhere else they take forever to load.  My internet isn't the fastest but I used to have a 2007 macbook and I never had this problem.  Now with much better hardware on the new MBP, I'm completely baffled as to why videos are loading so slowly.  I use the latest version of Firefox. I can't find any helpful topics online and If I can't figure something out I will have to call apple tech support.

  • I have had my macbook pro for 4 months and it is now running extremely slowly

please can somebody help me, i don't know anything technical about computers. my 15'' macbook pro has overnight started to run extremely slowly, it is now becoming impossible to use my macbook and it is only 4 months old, i have no idea why and the only things i have put on it are the software updates. my macbook came with snow leopard but i got a free copy of lion to put on the very next day and i've never had any problems. i'm desperate to get this sorted as i'm disabled and it is a lifeline to me. thank you in advance to anyone who can help me. lynda.

i took my macbook to the apple store i bought it from, they checked the memory and hard drive and everything was ok, after a re install of the operating system i still had a problem so apple advised me to back up everything to an external drive the erase everything then reinstall which i've done and am now up and running again, it's like i have a new macbook

  • Since updating to FF 5.0, I can no longer access my MAMP server (Mac/Apache/MySQL/PHP) Wordpress development site on my Localhost computer (MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.4). Why not? It's running EXTREMELY SLOWLY when I try to access the pages on my site.

PROBLEM WITH LOCALHOST SITE LOADING VERY SLOWLY (IF AT ALL) AFTER I UPGRADED FIREFOX TO 5.0 FROM 3.6
I have been successfully running MAMP, a personal Apache server with MySQL, on my MacBook Pro using OSX 10.6.4. This is so I can create a Wordpress blog locally to later upload to my remote website.
Yesterday, I updated my Firefox browser from 3.6 to 5.0 (and added the following extensions: Better Privacy 1.51, Bloody Vikings! 0.5.3, Copy as HTML Link 2.0, Firebug 1.7.3, Firepicker 1.3.4, NoScript 2.1.1.2, and Ultimate Free Stock Photo Search Add-on 1.0.1, TypeGauge 0.5, and Zotero 2.1.8)
Now, I'm having trouble: At first, MySQL database server in MAMP wouldn't turn on at all. I restarted both Firefox and MAMP a few times. Finally, MySQL turned on and MAMP started to load into the browser. But it got only as far as the top bar on the MyPHP page, and would not load the rest of the page. Finally, pages do load, but I'm getting a "Waiting for localhost…" message looping at the lower left screen for a VERY LONG TIME (30-60 sec?) before my localhost web page appears (sometimes it says "Read localhost…").
But even when the localhost pages appears, it continues to run VERY SLOWLY when the browser tries to load the pages (although it runs a little less slowly when I use only the backend Wordpress administration pages). In short, it seems that something is stopping Firefox from accessing the MySQL database properly so that my site can show up as quickly as it did before.
Since this mess only happened after I upgraded to Firefox 5.0 and added the plugins, and nothing else has changed on my computer, it seems the Firefox 5.0 app and/or an extension is the culprit.
Can you advise me ASAP about what to do? If not, I'll have to downgrade to 4.0 or something. I've got deadlines to meet.
    Thank you.
