FINDER LOST SINCE INSTALLAING LATEST 10.5 UPDATE......

Hi, I installed an update to OSX 10.5.1 and since doing so the Finder has disappeared and so have menus at the top on desktop - although this reappears when clicking on Safir etc. - but click on desktop and it's gone! I cannot access any drives meaning I cannot load applications that are not already on the task bar. Any ideas what may have occurred? I have delayed performing updates on my laptops until finding out what may be wrong. Any one else having same problem??

No this is a real weird one! The Finder is simply unobtainable - that is to say that there is no way to access any drive in any way at all!- usually clicking on desktop will take you straight to finder option menubar (at top of screen) , clicking on finder on task bar usually opens Finder Window, or holding "Apple" key with tab button allows you to jump to finder through keyboard.
But no! none of these are available! I was thinking of repairing preferences, but as these are in applications, within the Finder window which is unobtainable, as no Finder window is accessible, I am screwed!
I have even attempted to force it open using shortcuts such as the "show in Window" options which appear at the top of the "fanned" directories which appear in downloads on task bar.
I have also held "commandoptionescape" to access the force quit / relaunch option (as unavailable though menubar) but this does nothing either.
I have been using Mac OSX for all versions since 2000 on a total of 9 different Macs and laptops and this is nothing like anything I have seen before!

Has anyone else had problems since the latest itunes/ipod update?

since i got my ipod and itunes updated, ive had nothing but problems with my ipod. sometimes it freezes, and when i connect it to the computer its all of a sudden corrupted. Sometimes this happens when i connect it to my computer to charge, and gets stuck on the do not disconnect screen. Sometimes ill be listening to music or watching something on my ipod and itll turn off randomly for no reason, then the apple symbol will come on as if i turned the ipod on again. Right now my ipod is frozen on the do not disconnect screen, and i have no choice but to restore it, however it wont even show up on itunes when its frozen sometimes, like right now. Has anyone else had problems since the latest ipod update?

I've tried everything others have suggested without any luck.
Now I'm stuck with a 300 bucks mp3 jalopy.
My big question here is :
why aren't we hearing from apple? why aren't they saying something like "yeah we messed things up but be patient. we are trying our best to fix it..." ?
I was thinking to buy the macbook pro but now I'm afraid of the day things will get messy with that too.

Ever since the latest OS X update, my apps flash from active to inactive every few seconds.

Since the last OS X update 10.10.3, my apps flash from active to inactive and back again. It happens with all of my open applications, and it keeps me from typing accurately because the app, flashes to inactive while I am trying to type.

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Hi all, an update: while sending the Apple TV to sleep and waking it did nothing to fix the problem, sending to sleep and then forcing it to restart by disconnecting and reconnecting the power did the trick. When it restarted, it advised me of the new features in the (already installed) update, somethign it did not do when it restarted after the update. It then automatically found and joined my wi-fi network.
So, if you have the same trouble after the update finishes, try powering the Apple TV off and back on.

Does anyone have problems with their Safari ever since the latest OS X update?

I've noticed ever since i have updated to the OS X, i have internet problems. It lags, won't load the same page twice i have to shut down Safari & reopen.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Since the latest FF automatic update - any jpg I send to myself I cannot save as a jpg. This is so frustrating. I use my camera phone to take shots of our library activities and then to make newsletters, website updates etc. Just started this week. Today is the first day I noticed this problem.

You can force that while saving the file if you add quotes around the name: "image.jpg"

Cannot send or recieve text messages through Ford Sync system since latest O.S. update 10.3.1.1779

My Blackberry Classic easily connected to my Lincoln's Sync system. I was able to receive and send text messages through the Sync. Since the latest O.S. update, I can no longer connect sms services through Sync.
Should I restore to previous O.S.?

Yes my particular issue is not like yours. However, there have been many other laptop users experiencing similar problem to yours after 3.10 kernel. Mostly it seems to be bumblebee users that experience your problem with the blank screen. We do know that nvidia have yet to make their official drivers work with kernel 3.10 and up. The drivers in the Arch repository have been patched to work with 3.10. From what I have seen, this also only seem to be affecting laptops with newer nvidia gpu's. I fear there is not much to do with this problem until nvidia give official 3.10 kernel support.
My suggestion would be to stick with 3.9.9 kernel and the drivers that work with it, and don't upgrade those packages until nvidia has addressed these issues. If you have a look at the nvidia forums you will see quite a number of topics mentioning black screen when starting x on 3.10 kernel, and also a thread for the system dying. Reading some of the threads there may help you keep up to date on whether or not the issue seem to be solved.

Since the latest update my I-pod is not syncing properly.

My 80GB Classic has not been syncing properly since the latest I-tunes update. I have done the whole '5 R's' thing with no effect, disk mode makes no difference either.
This is what it is doing. I-tunes IS recognising the I-pod however I can only sync manually at the moment. Pretty much 1 album at a time: sync 1 album, eject I-pod, reconnect it, sync another album, eject, reconnect etc.. Because if I try to sync too much at a time everything freezes and I have to reset the I-pod and then I loose everything on it since I last disconnected the I-pod. At this rate it will take me about a month to sync my entire music library!! But now it seems that I can only get about 200 songs on it before it freezes up everytime I try to sync.
Also it no longer works on my home theater dock, bedside radio or car stereo (I-pod direct) it shows as charging but will not play through the stereo/headunit, which has me wondering what the **** was in that last update?. Headphones still work ok though.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

WPR260, I have been having similar problems since the latest SW upgrade! Ity seems to sync for a random time and then iTunes is very slow to respond. When I trying to disconnect, it asks me if I am sure, then stalls some more, I finally have to just pull the docking plug and restart the process but when an audiobook has 200+ tracks it cannot make it through the sync. Very frustrating!
Apprecaite any word you get (if you get any) I will do the same.

I have had Firefox for a few years and have been very satisfied with all of it's features and qualities. I work a great deal from home and have always enjoyed the convenience of being able to work off of 3 or 4 Firefox screens at one time. By pulling up one screen over the other and then go back and forth (as I still am able to do with Internet Explorer), saves a lot of time and NEEDLESS effort.
Since your latest update the other day, I am now only able to get that 1 screen and no matter how many times I click on the Firefox Icon on my icon screen, no other Firefox screens will come up. I am stuck with that 1 screen...

Since I upgraded to Firefox 19 from 18.0.2, on my Windows XP (SP3) laptop, I, too, can no longer open a new window. File-->New Window does nothing; also can no longer tear off a tab and open it in a new window (it stays where it is). Also, if I right-click on a tab and select Move to New Window, nothing happens. All of these worked fine in FF 18.0.2. All of these work fine with FF 19 on Windows 7. Only an issue on my XP laptop.
After trying to open a new window, and not seeing the new window come up (and yes, I waited a long time), I decided to close my current window, which had multiple tabs open. Instead of just closing, it pops up the message reminding me that I'm about to close all those tabs. If I say close, and then go into the Task Manager, the Firefox application has disappeared (as expected), but the firefox (and plug-in container) processes are still running. So I have to manually kill the Firefox process to get it to quit. it's as if it thinks there is another Window open (the one I tried to open but never appeared). This happens every single time! I've restarted my laptop, and that does not resolve the problem.
Is there a way to downgrade back to v 18.0.2 until this is fixed?

Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference?

Since downloading latest software update for "numbers", Mac is now extremely slow at loading anything and has trouble playing videos (buffering). Also when put Mac to sleep, it wakes up by itself and then back to sleep, etc. Please help!

OK, thanks. First, open Disk Utility and the Repair Disk Permissions on your internal HD. You can find DU in Applications - Utilitie. After doing so please restart in Safe Mode, this is easily done by holding down the Shift Key on your keyboard when you hear the start up tone, you will see a progress bar appear letting yuo know it's starting in Safe Mode. Then reset the SMC and PRAM, instructions can be found by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset. Then retest.
