FInder making a weird noise after reinstall

I recently reinstalled Mountain Lion from scratch and ever since, I get a weird noise when moving files in the finder from folder to folder or installing a new application. It's definitely not a physical/mechanical type sound (i.e. grinding or whirring), it's kind of a low-pitched digital sounding "err". That's probably a terrible description, but I don't know how else to put it. It's kind of like the bad sound people get on a game show when they get the answer wrong.
I haven't really tried anything besides shutting down and starting up again, because I have no idea where to start. I also don't know what other info to put in here, so I'll do the basics and let me know if someone needs more. I have no idea if this is even something to worry about, but it's different, and different always worries me.

  • Why is my macbook making a weird noise when trying to install a cd?

I had to send my macbook in a few months ago to get a new logic board, and now it will not install cds.  About ten minutes into installation it starts making a weird noise and freezes and the only way to stop it is to force shut down my computer. Anyone else have this problem?

Make sure your Mac has good ventilation >  Learn about the fans in your Mac
Better to not run too many applications simultaneously, especially any streaming video content.
For issues with fans, reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Weird noise after locking

My phone is making this strange noise when I lock it, it starts off slowly and then speeds to a fluid buzzing, and it sounds very close to the noise a cicada makes. It is VERY loud.
It only started doing it today, and only when I lock my phone. Turning the lock tone off also turns off the buzzing, but I'm worried that something is still wrong with my phone! I don't have very many applications, I recently updated Facebook but that's it.
If anyone else has this problem, PLEASE let me know!

I got my new iPhone 4 on the day of the release here in Canada (July 30, 2010). I knew about the antenna problem but I was willing to put on a bumper case to resolve that issue. Anyway, several days after I got the phone, I experienced this very loud weird noise coming out of the speaker every time I either unlocked the phone or locked the phone. Yesterday I experienced the same issue, but this time I decided to record this noise on the Voice Memos application and guess what; as soon as I pressed the record button or the stop button, that same noise was being emitted.
The problems seem to be piling up and that could explain the shortage of phones here in Canada; perhaps they are resolving manufacture issues. I am ready to take this phone back because it seems like an unfinished product.

  • Weird noises after connecting headphones

Hello, I have a problem with headphones on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro U300), when I plug them in the computer starts to make a weird noise (some kind of buzzing) and the sound gets really irritating when I plug in 3G modem. Any advice?
    Thanks!

I tried to change the settings but there was no effect even when I set everything to zero.
brebs wrote:The static interference you hear can also be caused by the CPU using a power-saving mode. I hear static in my laptop headphones occasionally, have tried loads of things, and been unable to cure it.
I don't hear it in headphones I hear it from the computer, I suppose it's from speakers (but I can hear it even when I mute the sound).

  • I can hear the fan making a weird noise. What can i do?

My brand new macbook pro is making weird fan noises, like something stuck or loose. I had the same problem with my windows computer. I got my mac two weeks ago. I did not pay $1300 to have the same problems.

You make an appointment in advance. They look at it and tell you what's up. If they have the parts, they can fix it on the spot. (but they will take it in the back where they have a static-free workstation). Fan replacements (if that is indeed the problem) are straightforward, but the parts are special Apple parts.
There is no need to touch any data, but service always begs the question, "Do you have backups?" If not, what if your drive died tomorrow?
If you have an external drive, Time Machine is good because it does the backup (when the drive is available) automatically at low priority in the background. It does not interfere with your work.

  • X61s fan noise after reinstall

    Hi there,
I recently had some problems with my X61s when installing Linux and reinstalled completely from the Recovery (from the boot, hidden partition). Since then, the laptop fan turns continuously. Before my X61s made almost no noise when turned on :-(
Does someone have any ideas? I tried using a software based fan controlled without success.
    Thank you very much!

  • HP laserJet 5200dtn making buzzing/humming noise after printing

    Hi,
We have about three of these units in our office and one of them has recently began to make a loud buzzing/humming noise during and after printing a document. THe noise last about 5-10 seconds after the print job completes.  I can also make the printer buzz by removing the duplexer and puting it back in. The printer seems to load and then the buzz noise happens, again for about 5 seconds. I am aware of normal noise from these printers and this buzz is not normal.
This noise gets louder as the day goes on. Could this be a fan motor going bad?  We need to do somthing to get it quieter.
    Any help or suggestions?
    Thanks

  • MacPro Making VERY Weird Noises, Anyone Have any ideas?

For the past few days I have been processing and editing a recent job. This weekend the MacPro began making some very irritating and strange noises.
    Here is what happens;
I am sitting there editing when all of a sudden I hear one of the hard drives rev up, then it sounds like a small hammer is dropped onto a concrete surface and bounces twice, then I hear beep, beep from inside the MacPro.
A few minutes latter; drive rev up, ping ping like a hammer bounce, then two beeps.
This goes on and on every few minutes......it's friggen killing me.
Anyone have an any ideas? Maybe a hard drive dying? Thing is, I never heard this before this weekend.

Hard drives in the newer Macs are very quiet. Are you sure you are hearing a drive spin up and not a fan kicking in? It sounds to me the most likely culprit is a misbehaving fan. Make sure you have the latest SMC firmware installed on your Pro. Here is Apple's download site with info on the update:

  • Making knuckle cracking noises after repair, Apple Store said it's "normal"

I sent my MacBook Air mid 2011, the first time, to an Apple Store because it failed Verify Disk and was unable to re-install OS X (Repair No.: R88048332). When I got it back and found strange knuckle cracking noises whenever I held it and moved around.  I further found a few screws on the lower case were not tightened. And with a little pressure with my thumb and pointer finger, I could see the lower case near the touch pad went closer to the upper case.  When I held the MBA with my right hand near the hinge and the power on key, I could hear clearly multiple knuckle cracking noises.  I went back to the Apple Store, and the technician said it was normal because it's re-opened after factory assembly.  Eventually they re-screwed the lower case but no improvement was made.
Has the case been bended or damaged?  It's still under AppleCare so what can I do?

Yes, it's an Apple Store in Sydney, Australia.
I brought the MBA to another Apple Store and a guy there found the loudspeaker on the left side could not be aligned properly and there were other things inside to be re-aligned.  He also pointed out a dented corner on the keyboard side upper-left corner (not the lower side) and a few punched edges near the ports on both side and a number of scratch marks on the top (Apple Logo) and the bottom.  They were all new and not found when I took the MBA to the Genius Bar two days ago.  (Before giving the MBA to Apple Store, there was no scratches or damage as inspected on the spot.)
I thought my MBA had been dropped to a hardground at the first repair service in the Apple Store. I could not think of anything otherwise.
b.t.w. It was initially a non-recoverable Verify Disk problem as reported by the Disk Utility 10.8.3 and the SSD could not re-install OS X either. That's the reason of my first visit to Apple Store.  When I took it back, I found that I could not make the Recovery Disk USB and by Option restart, I found no Recovery Volume. That's why I took the MBA back to the Apple Store and asked them to re-install OS X properly.  Over there, I also showed them the click and crack noise.  The tecnician said he was very sure that my Time Machine backup was corrupted and thus during the restoration, the corrupted TM backup erased the Recovery Volume!  (I don't believe it.) I took out the TM backup external HDD and immediately inspected it with Disk Utility, there was no problem.  And later I restored the same TM backup to the MBA with no problem, and the Recovery Volume was there.  I don't know why Apple Store opened the MBA's case when it was only an OS issue.  and I cannot understand why a software issue will make my MBA's alumnium case clicks and cracks forever with dents and scratches everywhere!

  • IPad 2 making a weird noise

My iPad 2 is making a vibrating/buzzing sound. It occurs whenever the iPad makes a noise. eg: locking and unlocking the device, getting a notification, typing (keyboard clicking) and watching videos, alarms etc. The sound is definately coming from the speaker.
It happens intermittently; one day it does it for 5mins and next day it doesnt do it at all. Could be a few weeks before it happens again. I have noticed it becoming more frequent in the last few weeks.
I have never dropped my iPad or spilt water or anyhring on it.
    Thanks, any help is appreciated.
ps. if anyone knows how to post a video, please tell me because I have a video which clearly shows it.

IT's ladymindful again. FYI, I turned the volume to mute and there is still the beep sound.

  • MY SPEAKER ARE MAKING A WEIRD NOISE

YESTERDAY MY MICROPHONE WOULDNT WORK & NOW I WOKE UP & MY SPEAKERS ARE MAKING A LOUD SHREIKING NOISE....EVERYTHING WAS FINE JUST A FEW DAYS AGO...CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM.

I am having the same problem and it began about the same time. Wonder if a Windows Update caused a problem ??? I am trying everything I can think of to correct the problem, but with no luck. First thought it was just a problem with Skype. But Skype shows that my mic, video camera and speakers are working fine. However, I can't hear the person I'm Skyping with but they can hear me. I've tried several other things only to always come back to the squealing nose which basically sounds like feedback (i.e. - when a microphone gets too close to a speaker).  Have considered doing the "Recovery" option, but hopefully someone will give us an answer!  : /
    Thanks for posting this!

  • MSI GT70 audio (headphone) jack makes weird noise after a few seconds

I recently got my laptop its an MSI GT70, i plugged in my headphones to the correct jack, and the laptop detects it and all is fine, but then when i play something with audio, it starts playing normally for a few seconds then the audio goes to a weird sound, kind of like everything turns to like an echo sound, i have tried multiple things, like changing the default format (the bits and HZ), and every time i do change it, it goes ok for a few seconds and then turns back to the echo-ish sound. i don't think something is wrong with the drivers tough.

i know it' been a while, but i resolved the problem finally, it wasn't anything with the drivers or hardware, i few days ago, i wanted my laptop be loud, but i raised the volume and it wasn't really loud as most laptops, so i checked around my laptop then i went to my icons i clicked sow hidden icons to see what was related to my sound i found thx tru studio pro settings in there, i double clicked it, clicked on speakers and realized they were on low that's why my laptop had low sound, so after i resolved it, i went to settings to see what it had to offerm i saw select your speaker setup, it had headphones, external speakers, and built in speakers, i automatically got my headphones and plugged them in, the thx turned from built in speakers to external speakers, then i listened to something and it was still bad, so i changed it to headphones, and it was perfectly fine after than,    , but i still dont know why it turns to external speakers, i think it has something to do with realtekhd, but it's a start, thanks to everyone for the replies

  • Mac Book Pro late 2012 super drive making a weird sound after boot up

hey , i just bought my mac book and i was wondering if the weird boot up sound that seems to come from the superdrive that sounds like a robot is normal. I'm quite afraid my mac might be broken? as my previous 2011 model does not make this sound.
    Side Question:-
My mac book is new and it had it's first crash today due to me downloading a torrent. Is this normal? when it crashed it deleted the torrent that i was trying to download half way and it returned me back to my desktop, before it crash it gave me a message saying something like " your mac has crashed please press any key to restart" i forgot the message but it was something like it , and could this possibly mean i can't download torrents anymore?
Thanks for reading and taking your time to answer my questions much is appreciated.
P/S: My mac is running OS X 10.8.2
