Finder no longer showing full file name of mp3
How do i get finder to show me the full and complete file name (in my case, artist-title-label) for these mp3s? i can see the full name in the path at the bottom but i want to see it when i search it. My workflow with Ableton and creating text tracklists for music mix sets depends on it. I need the two file names to match rather than the mp3 just showing the info less the artists name.
thank you.

Hey there, I don't know if you knew that already. If you did - Welp I gave it a shot. If you don't want to convert files maybe you should look at metabliss.com to help lighten the load. I would definitely make a copy and try it on PC to see if the same issue occurs.

Show full file name in File Open Recent Files menu.
I would like to be able to see the full file name in the File > Open Recent Files menu. With long file names, I cannot differentiate between the file I want to edit and the series of images I exported - they all look the same when truncated. (Mac)
I'm working in CS6 on Windows and wondering exactly the same thing. I usually export PDFs or JPGs of current work using the same or very similar names for tracking purposes but trying to open recent files then becomes a game of trying to figure out which of the various identically-truncated file names actually corresponds to the file I want to reopen.
Is there a way to get Illustrator to display the FULL file name in the Open Recent Files menu? -
Spotlight has stopped working properly. Even when a known file is entered (with full file name) in search, it fails to find it. It finds some things, but is not to be depended upon. Any ideas?
Try reindexing spotlight: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes - Apple Support
If you still have problems, open Console app, select All Messages, then search for mds in the search field. Then search for mdworker. See if there are any messages indicating it is having problems with certain files.
You can also delete the index altogether and cause it to reindex with a command in Terminal. I have always assumed the method above will do the same, but I'm not certain. You must run this command while logged into an admin account. Copy the whole line and paste it into Terminal.
sudo mdutil -E /
sudo temporarily elevates your privileges and will ask for your password. When you type it in, there won't be any response in the Terminal. Just type it and hit return. -
View full file names of mail attachment titles in MAIL application (Apple)
I often get many attachments sent to me and when I am looking through emails for some reason all attachments show up as an ICON with a shortened version of the name of the file. It is always just the first 10 or so characters of the title and the last 3, which is usually the (.gif, .pdf, etc...)
A lot of what I get usually has the similar titles and only seeing the first few characters is not making things easy for me to find exactly what I am looking for.
Is there a way to view the full file name within the mail and within the application without having to open each file up each time in the APPLE MAIL application?
Maybe there's a way to show all attachments as a list with a smaller icon?
Anything that'll let me view the full title of all attachments would help.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Message was edited by: KennyMac212I agree it is frustrating and literally just sent the wrong attachment to a customer because I was trying to live with the truncated filename system. I did find this nifty app called Mail Iconizer (http://lokiware.info/Mail-Attachments-Iconizer). It's pretty neat as it lets you control how attachments are viewed as well as pdfs and images (based on size). It's a free unlimited trial and $15 if you want to register so it's pretty inexpensive.

Spotlight no longer shows preference files.
Just upgraded to Leopard and found that spotlight no longer shows preference files in search results for a specific file name. This is a distinct step backward from Tiger IMO. Can anyone tell me how to search for prefs files? Thanks.
you have to include system files in a search. they are excluded by default. enter command+f in finder to start finder search. click on "kind", scroll and click on "other". in the resulting popup select "system files" and change the setting to include them in the search. if you want to make this default see this macosx hint

Full file names on Desktop Icons
coming from 10.5, all of my desktop icons revealed the full file name. under the icons. Now on 10.6.2, they are "..." abbreviated. I've looked everywhere and through the "Show View Options" by right-clicking, it only allows me to choose between showing the file info (like size), but not the full names.
Is there an option somewhere to address this?
Thanks!Set the grid spacing wider in the view options (View menu, Show View Options).

Can color tagging a full file name be restored in OS 10.9.2?
Can color tagging of a full file name, rather than just a tiny dot, be restored to OS 10.9.2, as was possible in 10.9.1?
You can use one of the third-party Finder alternatives. Path Finder, XtrFinder, Total Finder. I've never used them so I can't recommend.

What causes the full file name to be listed with bookmarks?
Good morning! What drives RH to list the full file name in
bookmark code in some files, and in others its just the
href="#bookmark? If you change the file name...all the bookmark
links with full file names break. Am I doing something wrong when I
created them...? Not sure how that's possible...but something is
driving this! Any helpful hints from the masters online?Hi Teri
It's been my experience that if you elect to create a link
from inside the topic to a bookmark, and you choose the bookmark
from the dialog, you end up with a link that simply has the hash
and the bookmark (#Bookmark).
Where you see the file name preceding the hash and the
bookmark, odds are the link was created by the user clicking the
bookmark in either the Project Manager or the Topic List and
dragging from there to create the link. When links are created in
that fashion (I'm addicted to creating links that way myself - it's
like crack to me - if I knew what that was like LOL) RoboHelp
creates the link with the file name (FileName.htm#Bookmark).

How to get full file name on MAC?
Hi,
In my plug-in, I have to get the full file name of the file opened in illustrator on MAC OS X. The following code works fine:
SPPlatformFileSpecification theFileSpec;
AIErr error = sAIDocument->GetDocumentFileSpecification(&theFileSpec);
theFileSpec.name gives the file name of the open AI File.
But, if the filename is greater than 31 characters (including extension), the returned filename is turncated to 31 characters in the format: {FIRST_22_Characters}#{5_DIGIT_NO}.ai. for example: if the file name is: 3896420_Sports_Football_Training_Top_II.ai
The returned fileName is: 3896420_Sports_Footbal#3240A.ai
Is there any other Illustrator API or a native MAC API to get the actual file name?
Please Help
Thanks,
HiteshHi,
hopefully I am steering you in the right direction, but if I recall, SPPlatformFileSpecification is an FSSpec, have you tried FSpMakeFSRef and seeing if the problem persists once converted to an FSRef?

finder is not showing correct file in cover flow mode. The files shown in the top panel are one file off.
This problem occurs after I move a file or files to trash. If I remove one file, then the sequence is one file off, if I move two files to trash then the sequence istwo file off. For example, if I delete file 1 and highlight (click on) file 3, then the cover flow panel shows file 2, when it should show file 3.

Finder dose not show all files
finder dose not show all files and is not open.
nothing is shown on the desktop.
how is it fixed?Could be disk corruption or bad perference file (s).
You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
1) Check the amount of free space on your harddrive. You should have a several gigs free.
2) You should run disk utility
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
a) verify the disk
b) update your permissions.
3) Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine. Hold down the shift key. Poweron. Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive
is being checked.

4) Define a new account & see if the problem occurs on that account. -

Is there any way to show the file name super imposed on the slides?
Is there any way to show the file name super imposed on the slides in Premiere Elements 9?
I am setting up pictures as slide show along with some movie clips but wanted the desctiptive file names appearing with each picture.
Thanks!Yes. In Timeline mode, you add it to an upper video track as a title.
I show you the basics of titles in the Basic Training tutorials at Premiere Elements support site Muvipix.com.

Finder no longer shows document folders, only All Files
Suddenly, Finder only lists "All My Files", "AirDrop" and "Applications" under Favorites where it used to list "Documents", "Pictures", etc. from which I could access "My Documents" and subsequent document folders. Now I have to wade through all of my files irrespective of file type or subject. This is obviously untenable, so what have I missed?
Okay I have figured out part of the problem and fixed it, although one issue still persists.
I fixed the "Current Status" issue for my servers by adding port 5900 & 3283 to the port forwarding settings in my Airport Extreme via the Airport Utility application. I don't remember having port forwarding turned on for my (now dead) Linksys router, but I could be mistaken.
Now I have a different problem. When I go to "copy" a file from my local machine to a remote server, I get a message that says "This task will fail: A console user is not logged in on www/servername/com"
If I log into that computer first, I am able to copy items, but I remember being able to copy items to my remote servers before without having to first sign into them? Am I mistaken on this or have I uncovered another problem?
Any help appreciated. -
Redirect to "can't find the i-web page"/file name change
i published a website thru mobileme (http://www.hale-o-lani-aloha.com). when i type my website address in e-mails and check the link, i sometimes got directed to a page that said "we're sorry but we can't find the i-web page you've requested..." (yes, i've checked my typing!)
when i created my sitemap (with rage sitemap automator), i was told that the apostrophe in the file name for my first page was probably causing the problem. my file name was"hale o'lani aloha". i changed the file name for the webpage to "hale o lani aloha" and republished, redid the sitemap, etc. i now have 2 sets of files on my i-disk: one for Haleo'LaniAloha and the other for HaleoLaniAloha (i don't know why it's not "HaleoLani"). both sets of files have folders with the individual components of the site, css style sheet, java script and html files. the bad redirect site address has "/Site/HaleoLaniAloha" in the address. (when i checked the "oLani" html file on my i-disk, it opens an incomplete version of my first webpage. however, the "o'Lani" html file opens the fully functioning page). when the links work, the address has "/Site/Haleo_LaniAloha" (the new file name). so that long explanation brings me to my questions:
- did the apostrophe in my file name truly mess things up?
- since my fully functioning html file on i-disk has the apostrophe in it, should i rename my file with the apostrophe and delete the non-apostrophe files from my i-disk (even tho the working website has "oLani")?
thanks for any info that can help clear up this mess! You can find import now in the Library:
*Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Data from Another Browser
