Finder not updating copied files

When I copy a file to a different folder, Finder does not show it. If I try to recopy, it says the file already exists there.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah seem to be having the same problem with Finder updating as well.
I deleted a few of the files in my download folder and all the files disappeared. Yet only the properly deleted files appeared in the Trash. I browsed back to the dowload folder and one thing had reappeared, then all the others suddenly appeared out of nowhere while I was looking at the folder.
Very strange.

  • Finder not updating when files change

I’ve started experiencing a really irritating problem whereby the Finder does not automatically update the view of a directory when I save a file in it. It seems to ignore all file system changes.
This never used to happen. In fact, when I first installed Leopard I was very impressed at how instantly file system changes were reflected in Finder windows.
Looking at some of the other threads here I tried relaunching Finder to see if that made a difference. However, attempting to relaunch Finder causes it to ‘exit’ and not restart. If I do "ps ax | grep Finder", I get this line:
    486 ?? E 0:00.00 (Finder)
The process will not exit, even if I try to “kill -9” it.
    Sometimes rebooting solves the problem.

  • Finder not displaying all files in remote directory

Sorry, this is a repost as I have gotten no response from my original request here: Finder not displaying all files in remote directory
I've exported pictures from iPhoto on my iMac to a shared directory on my mac mini. When I access that directory from my iMac, I can see some but not all of the pictures. I know the pictures exported properly because I can see them all from the mac mini. I can open up a terminal window on my iMac and see all of the files; I can also open those files from the terminal.
I'm running OSX 10.9.4 on both computers, with the mac mini also running OSX Server. I've placed a screen grab below from my iMac of what Finder sees vs what I can see from the terminal.
Why isn't Finder displaying all of my files?

    thanks for responding
Adding a new file to the shared folder results in me being able to see the new file from my clients regardless of where it was added from, however the "hidden" files do not suddenly pop up.
I tried a few more experiments that had interesting results, but still didn't lead me to an answer.
First I tried copying the files from the remote directory to a local directory; I did this in 2 different ways and had different results. Method A) I copied files from the mounted share to a local dir: "cp /Volumes/MyShare/dir/*.JPG .". Method B) I copied the files using secure copy: "scp user@server:/path/to/dir/*.JPG .".
Method A resulted in Finder not being able to see the files in the local directory, while Method B did. This was interesting and lead me to suspect an issue with the way I am sharing the directory on the server. From Server settings I have both afp and smb checked. I tried enabling only one or the other and reconnecting; but this did not fix the problem.
Next I tried exporting the photos from iPhoto again. Exporting them locally results in files that Finder can see. Exporting them to my server results the same bad behavior
Getting desperate, I also tried renaming all of the files from "*.JPG" to "*.jpg" but this didn't help.
One last experiment, I see the same behavior from both another Mac and a PC on my local network... FTP works fine.
    Any more ideas?

  • How to make Finder NOT to show files from a specific folder in "All My Files"?

    Hello!
Can someone please advice how to make finder NOT to show files from a specific folder in "All My Files"? See the attach - I recently installed Civilization 5 from Steam and now I have a lot of unneeded files (*.log and *.ini) shown in  All My Files colder in Finder.
I don't want to see them. Any advise?

Using "All my Files" was very handy before all this rubbish popped up. =(

Application "FINDER"not responding,Desktop files disappeared & " also "Trash" not working svn after relaunching several times.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process (Finder) in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Finder Not Showing All Files in Folder?

I have had this happen to me in Tiger before but in the past week or so I have come across two instances where Finder is not displaying all the files in a folder. On the first occurrence, I was moving files over from a samba share and for some reason Finder was not reading a few music files. Thus, those files did not get moved over, and just now I was reviewing some bank statements and one of the PDF statements I saved yesterday did not appear until I did a "killall Finder" in Terminal. Has anyone else experienced this? This seems to be a serious flaw that could bring about data loss issues.
    Thanks,
    James

Latest Mac OS X 10.5.1 build fixes Finder data loss issue
    By AppleInsider Staff
    Published: 04:00 PM EST
Apple Inc. on Monday continued to pound away at its first maintenance and security update to the recently released Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system, issuing a new test build to developers that fixes the much publicized Finder data loss issue.
People familiar with the ongoing testing process for Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update say the new build, labeled Mac OS X 10.5.1 build 9B16, was accompanied by a note to developers that specifically mentions a Finder-related fix affecting files that are moved between directories.
It was widely reported earlier this month that Leopard's Finder is affected by a glaring bug in its directory-moving code, which could lead to horrendous data loss if a destination volume disappears while a move operation is in progress.
Those people familiar with pre-release builds of Mac OS X 10.5.1 also added that the software update will deliver an enhancement to Leopard that will allow Apple's Software Update and installer applications to make revisions to application files which may have been moved outside their designated "Applications" directory on Leopard volumes.
As was the case with build 9B13, which was released for private testing last Monday, Apple is reportedly asking that its developers test the latest build broadly, paying particular attention to Time Machine, Mail, iCal, Back To My Mac, Bonjour, AirPort, gaming graphics, networking and the Finder.
Mac OS X 10.5.1 is expected to be released as a free update within a few weeks' time.

  • Finder not updating

We have a Mac Pro that will not update when new files are placed on the server. We made a folder on the server through the MacPro and it will not show. It showed on all other macs and PCs. It is completely updated and permissions have been repaired.

  • [fixed] rsync - not updating existing files?

I am using rsync extensively to backup various machines to a central server (all archlinux, latest versions on ext4). Yesterday I needed one of those backups, and I found out it is as good as useless, since a lot of files never got updated. Even when I enable checksumming the file is not updated. I am pretty sure I am missing something, but am not sure what it is.
    The command I use:
rsync --stats --verbose -xaz --append --delete-during --delete-excluded \
    --exclude=[cC]ache/ --exclude=.thumbnails --exclude=.Trash*/ --exclude=*.mp3 \
    --exclude=qemu/ /home/user /etc \
    backup@servername:clientname/
new files get transferred fine, and some files get updated as well. But not everything; here are some examples:
    -rw-r--r-- 1 backup nobody 1445 Jan 11 2009 profile

Okay, the solution was pretty simple, I was using --append, but that is only meant for files that you know will increase in size. Since that isn't the case when backup up /etc/, that flag isn't very useful.

  • IWork apps not updating iCloud files automatically

My iWork apps (pages, keynote, numbers) on my MacBook Pro quit updating iCloud files automatically.  Also the apps will not show files created or updated on my iPhone or iPad automatically.  If I restart or shut down my MacBook Pro, then the iCloud files are updated at the launch of the iWork app.  The iWork apps were updating the iCloud files antomatically until two days ago.  I am looking for suggestions on how to get the automatic iCloud file update feature working again.

Yes I am using Mountian Lion.  Automatic syncing was working great up to about 2 days ago.  Then it just quit.  I could turn the mac off and back on and it would sync, but still would not automatically.  None of my troubleshooting tricks fixed the issue.  Finally I reinstalled Mountian Lion and now the iWorks apps are syncing.  I still don't the know the reason for the issue, but a complete start over solved the issue for now.  Thanks for your comments.

On Mac 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5.1, and iOS 5.0.1. I have made changes to the genre of a few of my audio files but they are not updating on iTunes. iTunes appears to go through the entire process of syncing but no changes are made. • Dreamweaver Template files not updating other files

I took over a website and the site uses Dreamweaver Templates.  I'm not too familiar with the way that Templates works.  Anyway, the nav (links at bottom of website) need to be updated.  I updated the secondary.dwt file within the Templates folder.  I uploaded it, but it's not updating the pages on the website that use this template file.  Please help!

When you update the template from within DW, you should get a dialog asking if you want to update all of the files that use the template. When you click "OK" everything is updated across the site.
If you updated the template outside of the defined site, it won't update anything and you may have a bit of work on your hands.
In DW, you should have a Files tab with a drop down menu. The drop down menu should have all of your defined sites. Choose the site you are working on and a list of the files in that site will appear. Choose the template and make your changes and it will ask if you want to update everything else.

  • ITunes not displaying 'copying files' when importing songs

When importing a large number of MP3 files, say an albums worth, iTunes refuses to display the 'copying files' progress bar at the top of the window. It is a process of trial and error clicking on the arrow to get the right progress bar to display, when and if I manage to get the appropriate progress bar up it will not stay for longer than a few milliseconds. Is this something I can fix or yet another sloppy bug in iTunes 7?

    Hi,
Welcome to the group. I'm not sure why hitting the arrow next to the box isn't working as mine always works. I have the latest version and haven't had a problem yet.
Not sure if this will help but here is a link you can check out:

Maybe someone else will have a solution.

  • Finder not showing individual files

    Hi there amorse,
If you can find the file in Spotlight, you can use the "Show All in Finder" option to help you track down where that file is located. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Template not updating online files

I use one template for 62 files which I have already
uploaded. I made a change to the template which updated my files
offline but do I have to re-upload all these files again? When I
just upload the template, none of the other files online
automatically updated. This is my first use of templates and I
assumed that if you modify the template then the change will carry
over to each associated file that already resides on the server
which would be great. What should I do to keep from having to
re-upload each file after I make a change to the template?
    Thanks, Steve

    Yup. That's hw Templates work.

Nothing you can do, again it's just how Templates work. You
    can however read
about server side includes (ssi) in DW Help and other places
    (Google) and
use them to replace some pieces of your Template. For example
    put your menu
(navigation) in an Include file. Change just that file when
    you need to
modify your menu. Then upload just that Include file and it
    will be (what
else?) *included* in all your pages.
