Finder now has Restart and Restart... options

I dropped my keyboard last night and picked it up and I think I accidentally hit some key combo that activated some settings.
Under Finder>Apple Menu, I can now see options to Force Quit... (the ellipses are on purpose and in the menu), Force Quit Finder, Restart..., Restart, Shut Down..., Shut Down, Log Out..., Log Out.
When I open an application, the Apple Menu, while running the application will have the option to Force Quit..., Force Quit [Application Name] now too.
I've also noticed that boxes are now highlighting strangely. For example, when I click on the address box in Safari, there is now a thick black square highlighting the address bar; when I click in the Google Search area, that gets a thick, black square highlighting that...
Anyone have any ideas on the keystrokes that I accidentally hit on the keyboard to get it doing this?

Turn off VoiceOver in System Preferences >> Universal Access
EDIT: Hitting F5 key probably caused it.
It seems it causes double answers on posts too

  • Help...MacBook Restarts and Restarts After update ...won't stop

Hello, I just ran the Leopard 10.5.1 software update on my MacBook and it restarted and now it just keeps restarting and makes the sound and it won't stop. Does anyone know what's going on?

That just happened to me. Help. I just did a regular software update, which included a combined operating system update, a QuickTime update and a security update. I restarted after the download as instructed, and now the computer keeps restarting. The little dial keeps spinning and the Apple restart bell goes off, but it never finishes. Then after a few minutes, it restarts itself again.
I've got a big college project in that computer and it's due Monday. Please someone help.

  • Ipod video 5.5g restart and restart

This morning i disconnected the ipod from my pc and it just started restarting. it only get to the apple boot logo and restart again so i cant open it in the pc.

I meant Reset to clear the problem, but if you can reset it, see if you can go one step further and put it into disk mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 After doing this connect it to the computer and Restore it in iTunes.

  • I have a movie that has stopped and restarted a hundred times in the past 3 days what can I do to make it download

Movie hasnt downloaded for the past 3 days

    Hello __sara__13,
From what I can gather from your post, it sounds as though your iTunes content isn't downloading to your comptuer. I have located an article that may help you. It contains some quick troubleshooting steps you can attempt:
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
If your download was interrupted using your Mac or PC
    Open iTunes.
Choose  Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Type your account name and password if prompted.
If these steps didn't work for you, try the following steps to resolve issue.
Restart your iOS device or computer.
Check for updates for your Mac or PC and install any software updates. Also, update any security software you may have (anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall, and so on).
If using Wi-Fi for Internet access, try using a different Wi-Fi network when downloading. If you are connecting to a home network, try restarting your Wi-Fi router. Also, check for and install any firmware updates for your Wi-Fi router. (Refer to the manufacturer's website for your router to get information on updating its firmware.)
If you are using a Mac or PC, try using an Ethernet cable for wired Internet access instead of using Wi-Fi. If the issue is still unresolved and you're using iTunes for Windows, follow the steps to troubleshoot security software issues.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • I have a iphone 3gs which shows no service it has ios 6.0, even i reset its network settings my phone just restart and restart it even dont go to the title screen.. pls help

    Please help me.

LOL! - you poor bugger, Ognyan!
I'm starting to serihously think this phone has been jailbroken... I've got a senior technical support advisor at Apple who is working on the case. He has gone through everything he can possibly think of, but won't take "no" for an answer.
At the moment, he has logged everything with the Engineering Department, who is going to look into it further using the IMEI number and see what they come up with. If worse comes to worse, Apple will apparently replace the phone for a fee. The problem is that it is 800+ days out of warranty...
Anyway, we'll see how we go. If anybody has got any ideas about this, please continue to provide answers. I appreciate all responses

  • My Mac Mini/Yosemite is new. But it now has malwares and Mac Keeper keeps popping up even after uninstalling.. Who can help?

    Hi everyone,
My mac mini is new. I have a few issues with it.
But the most annoying is the malwares that infested it now. I have only been using it for about 3 weeks or so. Of course, I thought everything that popped up are safe to click and just standard to click. I don't know yet what's best. Either, I figure out how to remove these ads / malwares or I just thought of reformatting it and start anew with it.
What would you guys recommend and please include steps for me to follow. I'm no techy.
By the way, I do not see these extensions on my Finder files (Conduit, also known as Trovi, MyBrand, or Search Protect, etc.) As a matter of fact, my extensions folder is empty except for the Adblock and AdBlock Plus that I recently installed to kill the ads.  However, it worked but it didn't stop MacKeeper and Facebook ads from popping to a new window each time I click a link, or just a space on a safari)
On YouTube, when I watch a video, every second, the other videos are pushed down for as long as i watch, they are kept being pushed down. These are done by ads that are being stopped by the AB and ABP. yes, the ads do not appear. Just a white space forever adding up. Very frustrating. Please help.
    Thanks in advance!

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • Whoo hoo about time... Auto Filter now has HP and BP modes

Just thought i'd share this cause i havent looked at autofilter for a long time and was pleasantly surprised apple have added 2 important tools to it namely the High Pass and Band Pass filter options.

    I'm with you!
I just bought new Envy 17 laptop and quickly became furious with the audio fluctuations due to Beats Audio 'Enhancements'. Searched the internet and found a solution, fixed and stays fixed!
While logged into the PC with administrator privileges:
    1) Open Device Manager
    2) Scoll down to 'Sound, video and game controllers'
    3) Right click on the audio device listed and click on 'Properties'
    4) Click on the 'Driver' tab
    5) Select 'Update Driver...'
    6) In the window that opens, click on 'Browse my computer for driver software'
    7) In the window that opens, click on 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
    8) From the list of available drivers Select 'High Definition Audio Device'  (The generic Microsoft Windows Driver)
This completely removes the OEM driver AND Beats Audio 'Enhancements'
I'm now enjoying clear, crisp, clean, high fidelity music. I listen using iTunes (free) that has a build-in equalizer, also verified it works great now with Windows Media Player.
    Good Luck!!!

  • I dropped my mac book pro and the screen now has black and coloured lines in the corner. what is it and how can i fix it?

I dropped my mac book pro and the screen has now got a black rectangle and pink and green lines down it. What is it and how do i fix it?

Sounds like the display got damaged. Connect an external display and see if that's OK. If that's OK then the display is probably damaged. You can try reseating the LVDS connector but if that doesn't help the connections on the display body are very difficult to get to. Apple would just replace the entire display and that's what I would do as well.

  • Satellite U - Restarts and restarts while setup of Windows 7

I just bought my new Toshiba laptop from Harvey Norman.
When I try to set it up, it just restarts again and again and I cant do anything to stop it.
It says configuring Setup. Harvey Norman is trying to tell me it will take hours (at least 3) to setup.
I want to know is this normal or is something wrong.
    Hazza 89

    Hi Hazza89,
I doubt that this would be normal. In my opinion there must be something but one interesting thing you didnt post: What Toshiba notebook you have exactly?
Theoretically if its a pretty old model so it could be not compatible with Windows 7 Who knows?!
Furthermore do you make a clean installation of Windows 7 or upgrade? IF you make an upgrade I would suggest trying a new and clean installation.
    Check this!!

  • X11 crashes upon startup, and restarts and restarts

My X11 was displaying all its white terminal windows in the top left corner under the dock and file menu bar (the window could never be moved). So I cleared ~/.xinitrc, and now X11 won't start. It opens for one second, and then crashes. It does this forever, and X11.bin keeps appearing and vanishing from Activity Monitor's processes list.
Using Terminal.app, these files are empty:
    ~/.xinitrc
    /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
    Any ideas?

I transferred an audio book  to my itunes ok. Now I can't find it. The "transfer wizard" says that it is on my ipod. How do I find it? Frustrated.

You can currently only download audiobooks once from the store - have you not got a backup copy of it anywhere e.g. on an external drive ?
