  • Javascript:showPrintPDF opens a blank window

    I use a courier site which opens a new window to view and print the labels for parcels, using "javascript:showPrintPDF". Firefox opens a blank window with no content.

    I'm not sure anyone can diagnose this for you without registering for the site, so here are some suggestions for self-help.
    Question: Did it work before and stop working recently? If so:
    (A)
    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    1. Clear Firefox's Cache
    orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
    2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here
    While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
    (B)
    To rule out the possibility that an add-on is interfering, can you test in Firefox's Safe Mode?
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, restart Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] using
    Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
    If the window populates correctly, this points to an add-on or custom setting or perhaps a saved password as the problem. A few things to work through.
    If the site doesn't load correctly, we would have to consider other factors.
    Any luck?

  • When I open a pdf file, Firefox opens a blank window, then the file opens in a Adobe Reader window. How can I stop the blank window?

    Whether I am using Firefox 3.6.8 or Thunderbird 3.0.6, clicking on a pdf file opens a new window. After a few seconds the pdf file opens in a separate Adobe Reader window. When I am done with that and close it, I still have to go back and close out the blank window. Got to be a configuration issue some place. I have tried several settings under Tools/Options, but haven't found the right setting yet. Any suggestions?

    Thank you very much for the reply. I followed your instructions. This fixed half of the problem. Links to pdf files that are on web pages now come up with a box that asks if I want to open or save the file, without a blank browser window in the background. That is great.
    When I tested the fix with pdf file links in email, the problem still exists. I tested links in Outlook Express, Yahoo mail, and Gmail. Any time I click on a pdf link in an email, a blank Firefox window opens and then I get the small window that asks me if I want to open or save the file. Sounds like this is a configuration issue, not a technical problem. Thanks for your help.

  • Finder opens a new window with tabs in the last closed window loaded automatically

    As the title says, I've found this happens more than a few times for some change. Maybe every time, I didn't count. Say, I closed a window with 3 tabs opened, then next time when I click finder to open a new window, I will find the 3 tabs loaded in the new window automatically. I am wondering if it is a new feature or bug. If it is not right, would anyone give me some suggestion to correct, if possible? Thanks.

    Yup. I think bring convenience or not is supposed to be the fundamental difference bugs and features.
    Convenience also comes with users' habit. I am sure I will get used to the new way as time goes by.

  • Help! Finder opens tons of windows, computer acting funny

    I turned my iMac on the other day and suddenly Finder started opening tons of windows. The OS also tried to copy hard drives by itself, and Safari kept opening multiple windows and tabs. Random text appeared in search boxes and I couldn't do a simple task like typing because something else kept happening on my computer. It seemed almost as if my computer was controlled by distance.
    I looked for suspicious folders and couldn't find anything. I tried to scan for malware using ClamXav and the scan kept stopping by itself. So, I restored from a backup using Time Machine. It failed the first time but worked the second. However, the second time it worked only my latest backup was showing on the list.
    My computer was fine for a day but the same thing started happening again today. I've turned Firewall on, I've reset my passwords, secured anything I could. I'm currently running a scan with ClamXav and so far nothing wrong (I'm 3/4 through).
    I haven't downloaded anything weird recently, only mp3s and movies.
    Any idea what could this be? I've had Apple computers for 10 years and this is the first time this happens to me!

    Nope I don't even know what that is.
    I've also repaired disks permissions and cleaned my computer with unwanted files. Seems back to normal now but who knows if it'll happen again next time I turn it on.
    I booked an appointment at the Genius Bar just to be on the safe side

  • GMail in Safari w/FluidApp opens up blank window when clicking externally

    I'm currently using FluidApp to create a stand-alone instance of GMail in Safari. This works great for quickly switching to GMail as I can just type G using Quicksilver and I'm there right away.
    However, I'm noticing something annoying in that whenever I click a link in my email to an external website Safari opens up another window that I need to close in addition to wherever the website opened. So my path basically goes GMail > view external website > leave external website to return to GMail > close annoying blank window > Go back to GMail.
    Any idea why this is happening?

    You should check Preferences > General to see that you've enabled the "Open links from applications:" in a new tab in the current window. Then restart Safari and test to see if the problem is resolved.

  • Open new/blank window automatically

    Hi, I nedd to open a popup window with an external url when my animation arrives to a certain state an plays a certain transition, automatically. I know that is possible "On ApplicationStart" but I don't know how to do it on any other state... help please....

    Flash Catalyst doesn't have a built in timer. You could create a blank video file the same length as you need, play it and have that trigger the new window. Or you could bring your project into Flash Builder and add the timer there. You will need to have some ActionScript knowledge for the last solution. The video trick is mentioned somewhere in the forums.

  • Firefox opens multiple blank windows while starting

    Whenever I start Firefox, it loads multiple blank windows. It happens everytime I load it, though once in a while, it loads correctly i.e. loads the tabs which were open when I had closed it. Other than that, only plain windows which I have to close manually and then restore the last set of tabs from History>>Recently Closed Windows options. I have already set the following options to true to make the restore closed tabs feature working [as was suggested here in the forums]:
    browser.tabs.warnOnClose
    browser.warnOnQuit
    browser.warnOnRestart
    browser.showQuitWarning
    Any fix for it?

    If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

  • Another way to open a blank window

    Hello,
    I have some script I am using for a flash menu. Each button opens to the html file and has script telling each page the down state for each button when clicked. I am trying to use the function below to open a new window and it won't work with the other scripting.
    on(release)
    getURL("http://www.flash-here.com",                                  "_blank");
    This is what I was given for each button below. the num= value at the top is telling each buttons down state.
    onClipEvent (load) {
        num = 6;
        this.hitArea = this.area;
        link = "contacts.html";
    on (rollOver) {
        if (_root.link<>num) {
            this.gotoAndPlay("s1");
    on (releaseOutside, rollOut) {
        if (_root.link<>num) {
            this.gotoAndPlay("s2");
    on (release) {
        if (_root.link<>num) {
            _parent["item"+_root.link].gotoAndPlay("s2");
            _root.link = num;
            getURL(link);
    Any ideas? Thanks

    you can only have, at most, one on(release).  the last one that's defined will be the one that will execute.
    you should be using something like:
    onClipEvent (load) {
        num = 6;
        this.hitArea = this.area;
        link = "contacts.html";
    on (rollOver) {
        if (_root.link<>num) {
            this.gotoAndPlay("s1");
    on (releaseOutside, rollOut) {
        if (_root.link<>num) {
            this.gotoAndPlay("s2");
    on (release) {
        if (_root.link<>num) {
            _parent["item"+_root.link].gotoAndPlay("s2");
            _root.link = num;
            getURL(this.link,"_blank"); // assuming this is a movieclip button.  NOT a true/simple button.

  • Open a blank window with  parameters

    How can I open a new browser window when i click a link but i
    want it to
    open in a seperate window and be only a certain size and
    centred on the
    screen...
    Yanman

    Yep. This probably means you didn't select the tag before
    applying the
    behavior.
