Finder opening new Windows despite always open in new Tabs setting.

I have already submitted this to Apple. But wish to open a discussion here, to probe and see, if this issue frustrates other users. It would be nice to get some empirical weight behind my already submitted request.
The Issue: I have already set in Finder »always open in new tabs«. Despite this, when for example one clicks on »view Download in Finder« (Safari), or via a Spotlight-search clicks CMD+R to view a search-result in Finder, a new Finder-Window gets launched. This is really frustrating and quickly clutters up the desktop. Could Apple please fix this, so that »always open in a new tab« really does just this? (Or at the very least, opens a new tab in the last opened Finder-window).
The same irritation ist true for Terminal. I just wished users would be have the option to open everything in the same (e.g. the last opened) window.

Seemingly out of the blue, when I right click on something I would like to open in a new tab... the selection now open up on a entirely new and separate page. This page then continues to be the 'go to' page for all subsequent 'Open link in a new tab' selections. It is extremely frustrating! Can I please get information on how to change this setting to the original function?! HELP!!!!

  • My new tabs setting has chnanged to msn when I downloaded msn games, how can I reset new tabs to open my firefox home page please?

Hi since I downloaded msn games my new tab window defaults to msn but I want it ot be Firefox. I can't seem to find how to reset it, can you advise please. Thanks

You can go to Firefox and download one of many add-ons to do this. This issue has been addressed in another forum in Firefox Help. Follow this link: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/773676?s=new+tab+google&as=s
Two add-ons mentioned by Tony E. are NewTabURL or New Tab Homepage.
Also, whenever you open the new tab, you can just click on the home icon. That is what I do.

  • Trying to change new tab setting to open a specific website every time

When I have a window of Firefox open, and I click to open a "New Tab", I am wanting the new tab to default to Google. Right now, it goes straight to www.trovi.com (a search engine I've actually never heard of until this issue surfaced). I've made Google my home page. I've changed my default search engine to Google. I've updated every setting I can think of, but I'm clearly missing something...because still, when I click to open a new tab, it goes to trovi.com and not Google. I've restarted Firefox. I've completely shut down my computer, turned it back on, and then checked the settings to see if they worked...which they don't. I would even be ok if clicking "New Tab" opened up to a display of recently visited pages in tile format. I just really need trovi.com to go away from my "new page", and am struggling to find out how to do so. I've read the support boards, tried some of the suggestions...nothing is working. Any help you provide will be *greatly* appreciated. Thanks so much in advance for your time & efforts.

  • In Firefox version 4.0.1 (Mac OSX 10.6.7) I cannot find the "New Tab" tool button in Customize Toolbars.

In Customize Toolbars there is no longer a New Tab tool button to place on the tool bar, there is only a New Window tool button. Has this been deleted from the latest version?

Is Mail still "spinning"?  If it's been doing that for a while, I'd kill it, using either Activity Monitor or the OS X application picker.  Then relaunch Mail and see what happens.
    Two "by the ways":
    1) Your system details mention an PPC iMac.  Since a non-Intel Mac can't run OS X 10.6, you seem to have another Mac.  You might want to consider updating your system details.
    2) You seem to have been misled by the poor labeling of the message composition fields on this forum into trying to enter your entire post into the "subject" field.  In the future, just enter a summary of your post there and the main text into the field below it.

  • New tab setting keeps resetting to Google, how to make it stay empty?

I have searched for a way to make my new tabs, which currently open to Google, open as empty instead. I found the way described on this site, which is to go in about:config and change the URL of browser.newtab.url to about:blank. Then, I closed Firefox, made sure it was fully closed in Task Manager, and then restarted it. I then tried to open a new tab, and it still automatically opened Google on the new tab. When I rechecked the URL of browser.newtab.url, it was back to having a value of chrome://quick_start/content/index.html.
I don't know whether this makes any difference or not, but I had Chrome open throughout this entire process. Chrome, however, is not my default browser.

This is likely caused by one of the installed extensions and quick_start in the chrome URL should tell which extension in this case.

  • Sometimes when I minimize my Firefox window (I always have lots of tabe open), I can't maximize again, even after rebooting.

I usually run Firefox with many windows open. Sometimes when I minimize the Firefox screen, I can't maximize it again. Rebooting doesn't help.

It didn't work the first few times I tried it, but the 3rd time it did. Thanks.

  • Would like new window to open in new tab as to opening in an exsisting tab and replacing open window

Would like new window to open in new tab as to opening in an exsisting tab and replacing open window

Could you describe the problem or problems in more detail? For example:
    * Are you clicking a link in page open in Firefox, or following a link from a different application?
    * Do you want different things to happen between those two cases?
Background: Pages have a range of ways to set up a link. These can include:
    (A) Same window or tab (default)
''To change how this is handled, you can manually Ctrl+click the link to open it in a new tab, or use an add-on like Tab Mix Plus to override the default.''
    (B) New blank window (target="_blank")
''On the Tabs panel of the Options dialog, the first checkbox determines whether you see a new window or a new tab in the current window.''
    (C) Named target (e.g., target="MyApp")
''On the Tabs panel of the Options dialog, the first checkbox determines whether you see a new window or a new tab in the current window.''
HOWEVER, if the site already used this named target before and the window/tab is still open, Firefox will re-use that window/tab and replace the current page with the new page.
''To change how this is handled, you can manually Ctrl+click the link to open it in a new tab, or perhaps an an add-on can override the default.''
    (D) Scripted (pop-up) window
''This can be the same as any of the above, or the page can bypass the new window/new tab setting by specifying certain features of the new pop-up window. There is a hidden override if you are running into this problem (browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction).''

  • The button to open a new tab is missing from each tab in Firefox 7

I have Win 7 and Firefox 7 on my PC. I used to have the + to open a new tab on the right end of the open tab. That is gone now, though when I loaded Firefox 7 on my PC at work (Win XP) it had the = on the tab, before it crashed and would not open again. I have to run 3.16(?) on that computer.

  • Why can't I open new tabs in firefox 4?

I upgraded from firefox 3 to firefox 4 when it asked me to do so. The upgrade has not gone right - I have a mixture of the two versions, with the menu across the top as in 3 but the toolbar as in 4. There isn't a button to open a new tab (I can use ctl-t but would rather not). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same thing happens. It seems firefox does not really uninstall since on re-installing it remembers all my add-ons and settings.
