Finder opens to iDisk upon waking from sleep/opening lid

Every time I open the lid on my 17" G4, finder pops up and idisk is selected. Not really a problem, I guess, however, it is rather annoying. I don't recall making any changes.

try maybe -
system prefs> energy saver> and deselect 'wake this computer when a modem is detetected' something like that - deselect all internet type waking settings.
or open up idisc> prefrences> and there may be a wake from sleep setting somewhere (not used idisc myself)

  • Black screen upon waking from sleep

    Hello,
I have an intermittent problem with waking my entry-level MBP from sleep; on some occasions, the screen remains black instead of the system waking up and displaying the Finder.
Recently, upon waking from sleep, the authentication dialog displayed, I typed my password and pressed return, the dialog dismissed, the screen remained black, and the wait cursor displayed without spinning.
To recover, I needed to force power down and cold reboot.
system.log (in Console) contained the following entry at the time of the crash.
    Aug 14 07:39:51 BF-H-MBP kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0xd = GR: SW Notify ErrorAug 14 07:39:51 BF-H-MBP kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error
The entries surrounding the one above were as follows (the next to last one evidently was the final entry before the forced power down).

Can someone diagnose the problem based upon the above Console entries?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Thanks for taking time to post.
My question is different than the one your posting answers.
My question is, what is the diagnosis of the problem based upon the Console log entries that I've posted (rather than "How do I recover from the black screen?")?
    Cheers!

  • User Name Upon Waking from Sleep

    Hey guys,
We're given the choice of entering a password upon waking from sleep. I kinda want to take it one step further and have the user name erased too so that people have to enter the user name and the password upon the computer waking. Does anyone know how to do this or if it's even possible?
    Thanks for any help.

The only way I can think of would be to log out rather than just put it to sleep or let it go to sleep. However, if you have a good secure password there really isn't too much reason to require the additional step.
There may be a way to do it but I can't think of one.

  • Sluggish upon waking from sleep

when I wake my Mac Book Pro from sleep, my mouse reacts strangely (erratically, sluggishly, etc) for a good 30 seconds. Anyone experience anything similar? Thanks.

Not sure if you've fixed this issue already, but are you using the iStat Pro widget by any chance? I was experiencing the exact same problem (erratic mouse behaviour after waking from sleep), and it was resolved when I removed the iStat Pro widget.
Not to cast aspersions on this particular widget or anything, but removing it seemed to resolve the issue for me.

  • Bizarre psychedelic display upon waking from sleep

does this mean a logic board failure is imminent? the screen showed nothing but a bizarre, seemingly random collection of pixels in all colors - almost like multicolored tv 'snow.'
I ran the hardware test disk, and it said the logic board 'passed,' but i'm not sure how it can test whether or not it's seated correctly.
in any case, i've also been experiencing other display issues (black screen, typically), most commonly when waking from sleep.
this is my wife's computer, by the way, and it's a desktop replacement - no travel, so it hasn't been abused at all.

Does an attached external display show the same effects
as the internal one? The supplied adapter should allow
a second display to mirror the internal one, and this may
help troubleshoot the extent of the hardware failure.

  • No recognition of external LED projectors upon waking from sleep.

For many, many years, I simply plugged my MBP while it was asleep, turned on the projector, woke the computer from sleep, and the computer would recognize the projector (and the projector would recognize the computer...).  This worked in any of the classrooms.
Since "upgrading" to Mavericks, this sequence does not work.  The computer wakes, but does not recognize the projector.  The projector does not "see" the computer.  The only way I get them to communicate is to restart the computer.  This has been taking up valuable lecture time at the beginning of every class.  Upon restart and opening up Keynote, the files I had open don't automatically come up - i.e., I have to reopen those files from the finder as if they had not been open previously.
I've tried this in three different lecture rooms, each of which gave me no troubles before.  The only difference is Mavericks.  Any help?

Of course I meant VGA, not LED.  Sorry!

  • Fingerprint Reader not working upon waking from sleep for windows login

    Hello,
I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.
Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows.
    Things I have tried
-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software
-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options
-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue.
Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models? This is frusterating.
    Solved!

Your report is the first we have ever heard of this issue on T/W.  It does not happen on my T/W systems here (with or without 30 Day Standby enabled).  The other reports I heard of this problem came from X240.
I just want to confirm with you - the problem happens after coming out of Sleep (and not Hibernate), right?
Can you tell me exactly what you are doing?  e.g.
    1.  Use the computer normally (is AC attached or not?)
    2.  Close the lid - the computer goes to sleep  (or do you go to sleep some other way?)
    3.  Open the lid 2 hours later (or how long)?
    4.  are you using a dock?
The more info you can provide, the better.  Thanks for your help.
Also please let me know what BIOS version you have.

  • Leopard unable to find preferred WiFi network after waking from sleep

This keeps happening sporadically - I have a WEP encrypted (would use WPA2, but roommate's old iBook can't use it) network with a non-broadcasted SSID. I've entered it into the preferred networks list as the only entry. About maybe once in every 4 or 5 times that I wake the system from sleep by opening the lid, it will fail to find my wireless network and the only way to get it to pick it up again is rebooting the machine. I've even had this happen while sitting right next to the router, so it's definitely not a signal quality issue...
    Any ideas?
    Ryan

FYI, I had the same issue with Leopard not remembering my preferred network, and tried every suggestion I could find from these lists -- to no avail. I filed a bug report with Apple, who responded by asking me to send a log file to them from my machine.
They wrote back, after having determined it was a keychain problem. To quote Apple:
"Please use the Keychain Access utility (in Applications -> Utilities) to attempt to repair your login and system keychain.
In the worst case, you may need to recreate your system keychain:
    sudo systemkeychain -C -f
and then you will need to manually join your AirPort network once to write the password to the system keychain."
FYI what Apple failed to mention is that once in Keychain Access, there is a "Keychain Access First Aid" menu option that I didn't notice until too late. Brute force deletion of the login and system keychains worked for me.
Hope this helps (you and the hundreds of others with this issue)

  • MacPro Freezes upon waking from sleep

I have had my macpro for almost a year and have never had this problem. I have not connected any new peripherals to it or done anything new that I can think of. I have tried sleep and wake with them all disconnected, but still no luck.
Upon waking the computer comes back to life, however, the cursor does not move, and key commands also will not work. Only way to get it back to life is a hard restart. This began only a week ago, and was prior to the newest EFI Firmware update.
Is power consumption related to this possibly? Not enough juice to get her back online? or do I need to get her some coffee?

If it has too much equipment on the same circuit it can be a problem.
The freeze alone is enough to result in a corrupt directory.
Freezes on wake from sleep can be as simple as a bad USB cable.

  • What causes spinning beach ball upon waking from sleep

I have a 4 year old iMac that has recently developed an intermittent problem. If I put it to sleep, sometimes on waking up, the hard drive access seems to stop. I hear a tap sound as though it was trying to read the disk, but it gets stuck and a spinning beach ball appears instead of the cursor. I can move it around, but I cannot perform any actions. The ball will stay forever if I let it.
Another variation occurs shortly after wake-up, where I start to click on a file on the desktop or even an icon in the Dock. The name will become highlighted and then the same spinning beach ball appears.
The only cure for the behavior has been to shut it down and reboot. It then works fine.
The weird thing is that I have just been using it for 6 hours straight with out any hassles... until I will put it to sleep!
I have tried running Disk Utility from the Leopard System Disk as well as repairing permissions and I have used Disk Warrior 4 . It seemed to allow about 6-8 sleep cycles before the symptoms re-appeared.
I verified the disk and repaired the permissions again yesterday and all seemed OK. Yet today, when I started up from sleep. the system froze. The only cure so far is to never allow the hard drive to sleep. I put the display to sleep after 15 minutes but the hard drive continues to spin.
I am concerned that not sleeping the hard drive will do harm to it.
I am using OS 10.5.8 on a 233 Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac
I have Parallels 4 installed and cannot tell you if the problems started after a PC session.

    HI Studio Guy,
Welcome to the forums. When ever your having trouble with a computer; it's really a good idea to back every thing up. If your not backing up; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 explains how to back up your computer to an external hard drive. (assuming your using 10.5 or 10.6)
You could try running a hardware test on the computer. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
You could try a safeboot, it can repair lots of issues. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
This article explains how to delete the sleep image; a bad sleep image can cause wake from sleep issues. http://osxdaily.com/2010/10/11/sleepimage-mac/
But if your hard drive is rapidly making a taping noise you may want to take it to a genius bar; they might recommend replacing the hard drive. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • Freezing upon waking from sleep mode

I'm having a freeze issue with my imac. When I go to wake it up from sleep mode it wakes up, but then immediately freezes. Sometimes the dock items will still magnify, sometimes not. Sometimes the whole system will eventually wake up and open whatever program I was trying to open, but it takes upwards of half an hour. I used the techtool disc and it showed no hardware issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes Match running continuously upon waking from sleep

When my MBP wakes from sleep and iTunes was open before being put to sleep, I notice iTunes Match (the cloud icon animating) is running, and doesn't stop. If iTunes was minimized and I don't remember to restart iTunes, my MBP will start running pretty hot because iTunes is using CPU at a constant 10% or so, doing something with iTunes Match.
    Anybody else seeing this?

By the way, this is in Bootcamp x64 Windows 8, with latest 5.0 drivers and latest iTunes.

  • Vertical lines of "numbers" and screen distortion upon waking from sleep

    Hi,
I'm posting this for my friend who has a G5 iMac (the first model on the market, about a year and a half old).
Suddenly, he's having a bizarre problem with it. Intermittently, when he wakes the machine from sleep, either immediately, or after several minutes, the screen will go all "double" or fuzzy on him, and then vertical lines of what look like "numbers" (almost like the famous "Matrix" effect) appear on the screen. Only a hard, power button reset will fix it. He called AppleCare, and they had him zap the PRAM, which didn't fix it. Now they say that because the problem is intermittent, there's nothing they can do for now.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi all,
Bouj here.. I must say I am amazed at the amount of conversation this post has generated ..
I wanted to put out a few questions for those of us with iMac G5's, really it's a symptom I have noticed with both of the G5's that failed ..
If enabled, does the feature in Power option to dim the screen work reliably ?
I looked back at when the problems with both machines started and it was soon after the dimming feature just stopped working ...even after PRAM, SMU and Open firmware resets didn't do the trick after a fresh install of OS X 10.4.x
Obviously this is a power feature controlled by the logic board and both of my machines had logic board failures ...
If anyone can post their experiences and if they have notices this it may help others or even provide a warning sign for others ...

  • Crashing upon waking from sleep

My new Mini is crashing when I wake it from sleep.

    Hi, Patrick.
    1. You wrote: "I've long had a problem with my computer going to sleep via Energy Saver automatically - it doesn't, the screen goes dark but the hard drive continues to run. Check these Console logs for clues. Look for large blocks of rapidly-repeating messages being written to the logs cited in that link. This indicates a process is logging excessively, preventing sleep. Known causes of this include software distributed with Canon scanners and HP All-In-One Printer-Fax-Copier devices.
If you find large blocks of rapidly-repeating messages, post a small sample for analysis.

As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.

  • 2014 Mac Mini connected to Samsung s22b310b monitor colors bad upon waking from sleep.

Occasionally when I wake the 2014 Mac mini from sleep the colors on the monitor are very bright.  I go into systems preferences and then display.  I click on the color button and it will change back to normal.  I have tried both a DVI to mini displayport and VGA to mini displayport.  Problem occurs with both.  What else can I try to prevent this from happening?
