Finder Photo Icons Messed up or Missing
Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks, the icons in Finder for my pictures have been getting distorted. Also, when I adjust a photo in Photoshop and then save it, half the time the icon is blank in Finder after I save it. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it a Mavericks problem that they need to fix?
You might try opening Activity Monitor in Utilities folder and scrolling to 'com.apple.IconServicesAgent' and click it, then click the X button and choose Force Quit until you see it disappear from the Activity Monitor. You may have to try and force close it a couple of times before it disappears. Then hold the 'Option' key on the keyboard and right click Finder in the Dock and click 'Relaunch'. That's how you fix glitches of icons not showing up and issues with icons.

Go to Finder>Applications and open the iPhotos app.

I upgraded and iPad 4 (retina) to IOS 8 and when I went to iPhoto it requested to upgrade the pictures to Photo or exit. I upgraded to Photo and then deleted the iPhoto icon. However, I can not find a Photo icon anywhere. I can go to the Camera app and access Photo or I can go into a supported app and send to Photo, but there is no Photo icon to be found.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.You can enter new and edit old contacts directly from the Phone app. Open Phone and then tap Contacts at the bottom of the screen. To add new tap + at top right.
I never use the Contacts App itself, but you should have one. If I remember correctly it was by default on the 2nd home screen or in a folder -- but I could be wrong because I haven't used it in years so I may have moved it somewhere in a folder on the 2nd screen to get it out of the way. If you want to use it and can't find it, another way is to open Spotlight Search by swiping down with one finger on the home screen (don't start the swipe at the very top of the screen or it will open Notifications instead of search). -
Photo Icons now have White Border in Finder...
My Photo Icons in the Finder, suddenly all have White Borders. What has changed? Something in an update? How do I turn this white border off? It's made all the pictures in the icons smaller. If this was supposed to be an improvement, it should really have been optional.
Umparrothead, How was it that it worked for years (no borders) with or without a custom thumbnail, unless the custom thumbnails have all suddenly disappeared?
Looking through my many folders of pictures, yes, some have the borderless, custom thumbnails, but very few. Basically anything produced with Photoshop (that I'm sure creates a custom thumbnail).
I'm thinking that the 'image preview' method you describe, had in the past, drawn the thumbnail without the white border, and some software update has changed things?
I only know that I have never seen these white borders till very lately, and I have thousands of images on my Mac.
And you're right, I'd hate to go through all my images to create custom thumbnails, resetting dates etc.
There must be a way to tell OSX to display the thumbnail of an image file (that does not already have a custom thumbnail) without the white border? -
My finder menu Icons are missing this all began after I was in a login screen and ran a micro fiber cloth across the keyboard. Since then I have lost all my menu icons and boot up takes five minutes this is a Brand new 27" IMac (February 2014) running Mavericks OSX 10.9.2
I have repaired Pemissions and deleted the finder.plist
Anyone have any idea whats going on? Any Ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

There is no way to view your photos via iCloud.com. Videos are not uploaded.
Photo Stream merely "pushes" the photos to your other devices. -
How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.
I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) . I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha! I should have paid attention and read between the lines! My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do! I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy. I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events) ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update! -
I don’t understand the difference on my iPhone between PhotoStream (with iCloud icon), Photos (the icon) and Albums and Camera Roll (under Photos icon) and and Camera Roll (under Camera icon). They seem to be more or less the same thing, but deleting photos in one place does not delete them elsewhere.
When I tried to import from my camera to my iMac computer the computer would not recognized 900 of the 920 photos on the camera so I had to (successfully) use the Image Capture application to import them.
I want to delete photos from my iPhone 4 in order to free up storage (I only have 8GB.) But in synching I do not want to delete any images from my iPhoto on my computer.
Is there a way that I can Delete All under Edit in either Photos or Camera on my iPhone and check about 20 ijmages to remain on the iPhone? I could find no command to Select All and then uncheck the 20 photos I want to keep.
I have the 8GB iPhone and the iMac with OS 10.9.2 and iPhoto '09 Version 8.1.2.
Help!I have Version 6.1.3 because the clogged storage will not allow me to upload Version 7.1. Catch 22. This is basically a storage issue, I believe. I cannot delete enough stuff on my iPhone to allow me to either back up or upload the new OS 7. I am unwilling to pay for more storage in iCloud, so I want to delete stuff I don't need. But I haven't yet figured out how to successfully do that. I synch my phone and computer. I want to delete mail on the Mail app and photos and still keep my photos on my computer on iPhoto, but not on my phone. I seem unable to do that. Any advice?

Finder dock icon does not open a Finder window when a file is dragged onto it
In Snow Leopard and Lion, when you dragged a file onto the Finder dock icon, a Finder window popped open and you could then navigate to where you wished to place the file.
In Mountain Lion, this behaviour has changed. Now either nothing happens, or Mission Control Expose kicks in with a blank screen since there are no Finder windows already open to show.
Is this just my install or does everyone find this annoying removal-of a-useful-feature behaviour change? Seems like a mistake to me.I never knew the feature existed, so I don't miss it. It also isn't something I'd use in my normal workflow.
However, it is disconcerting to lose functionality that was useful to you.

Cant find photos on time machine
My hard drive crashed and now is fixed. I can't find photo library from time machine to retrieve them. I had about 700 photos for 08 and cant find them.
Were the photos in iPhoto? You should be able to open iPhoto then enter Time Machine and browse your iPhoto library for any date for which you have a backup. If the missing photos are not there, are there other photos there or is your entire iPhoto library mia?

Is it true that the only way to serch for photos in iphoto from another application is by date? Here's my problem: I have thousands of photos that I used to be able to search based on the folder I created for them in iPhoto. Now the only way i can find them is by date, but I don't know when I took thses photos as they span several years. I never bothered to label them during import over the years because I always organized them by putting them in folders in iPhoto. Now I can't search by folder in iPhoto 5.0.4. Please, someone please tell me I can still search by folder. Apple has always been ahead of the curve when it came to searching. Now it takes me way too much time to find photos from other apps. I end up going into iphoto, finding the pic, dragging it into the new app or to my desktop, and then importing from there. These are extra steps not required in earlier versions iphoto. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

iPhoto 5 now stores the Album information in a data xml file. The Albums folder within the iPhoto Library folder is no longer used. At some point, usually after a rebuild, you will no longer have that folder in the Finder.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
Do this for each album.
Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.

Right I'm fairly new to this and a bit behind on current technology.
In simple terms is Icloud a website that i can log on to on any computer? And if i do will i find all of my photos and phone information on my account?
If so, when i log on to my icloud account there are only four icons avaliable to me. 1. Contact, 2.Mail, 3.Find my iphone and 4.I works.
Why isnt the photo icon avaliable so i can click on it and see all of my photos?

The server URL you listed above is active and working, but you may just need to log into the server, and then select the desired meeting room.
