Finder & Quicklook image size

Hi,  Sometime ago, I noticed that Quicklook started showing smaller versions of images rather than zoomed to fill the screen, then today, when I click on an image in column-view in Finder, I get little thumbnail size previews in the far right column with a white frame around them, even if I have the size of that column set very large.  What happened?  How do I get Quicklook and Finder to fill the available space with the image again?
Thanks.

Hello Williams
I guess you want this:
Goto any Folder... Press Cmd+J.. this appears a Box with tab Icon Size...
No, I'm not talking about ICON size. I want a larger Document Preview size in the "Columns Display" mode of the Finder. Select a Jpeg image, then click the little triangle "Preview" to see a preview of the image file.
There is a max size that is used, and to scan quickly through a folder of images, you can turn on the "Preview image", and then use the down-arrow on the keyboard to quickly step through the images..... But... I'd like to be able to set them to a larger size than the Finder currently allows.
There must be some parameter in one of the Prefs files or some such which controls the max size the Finder will show...
Anyone?
Thanks!

We've a requirement that we need to find out the size of a java object at run time, is there a direct java API to get the size of a composite object in memory?
Here is my requirement: We are adding string objects (which is an xml string of considerable size) into a List. After reaching certain size limit (lets say 5MB) of the list i need to put this data into DB as a CLOB. So every time I add a string object to the list, I need to see if the total size of the list exceeds the limit and if yes, flush the results into DB.
I am not sure if java has a direct API for this, if not what is the beast way to do it, it s critical requirement for us.
It would be really great if someone could help us out.
    >
Could you explain your actual requirement a little more fully.
    1. Is each individual string a separate XML string? Or is it just a fragment? Why would you just concatenate them together into a CLOB? That won't produce valid XML and it won't let you easily separate the pieces again later. So provide a simple example showing some strings and how you need to manipulate them.
    2. Are you using these xml strings in Java at all? Or are you just loading them into the database?
For example if you are just loading them into the database you don't need to create a list. Just create a CLOB in Java and append each string to the CLOB. Before you append each one you can check to see if the new string will put you over your length limit. If it will then you write the CLOB to the database, empty the CLOB and start appending again to the new clob instance.
If you explain what you are really trying to do we might be able to suggest some better ways to do it.

You may also be talking about the "Info" window. To open it, go to Window > Info or hit command+F8. It will show you the dimensions of the bounding box containing whatever object you have selected.

  • How can you find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas

This is probably a really really simple question but I can't for the life of me find how I can find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas. eg I have 3 photos i want to arrange 1 large and the other two next to it half the size. How can I edit individual image size on the canvas as when I select the image on a sperate layer I want to resize it just resizes the entire canvas and not the individual image
    Thanks

I want to know they exact dimensions though. You can get them by dragging to the 0,0 corner and then reading off of the ruler scale on the sides but its fiddily as you have to zoom right in and work it out. I know in photoshop there is a ruler but is there any other way in Elements?

  • 10.9.3 finder cover flow doesn't save image size

I went from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks 10.9.3. Everything went ok, but I have one annoying problem though.
Everytime I open a cover flow window in Finder I have to resize the image preview section. The Finder window size is saved,
but not the actual image size of the cover flow. It always goes back to a default, very small, size everytime I reopen the Finder window.
Didn't have this problem in Snow Leopard. It worked great. I just know one other person with the same problem. He just bought his MacBook Pro with Mavericks
and I am on a late 09 MacBook. So it shouldn't be a problem with just my Mac and Mavericks.
    So my question is;
Will there be any solution to this soon? Maybe a program update to be released, regarding this issue?
    Thank you for any feedback!

Ok, more information for anyone that might care. The wake-up seems to be the familiar dark wake in order to go into hibernate mode. Except now, it's a death wake. Looking at the logs, I see that it happens exactly 70 minutes after sleeping, even though hibernatemode = 0 (which shouldn't hibernate at all!)
So my power settings look like this:
    Currently in use:
    standbydelay         4200
    standby              1
    halfdim              1
    hibernatefile        /var/vm/sleepimage
    darkwakes            0
    gpuswitch            2
    disksleep            10
    sleep                10
    autopoweroffdelay    14400
    hibernatemode        0
    autopoweroff         1
    ttyskeepawake        1
    displaysleep         2
    acwake               0
    lidwake              1
standbymode is 70 minutes, what a coincidence. I'm going to try setting it to 0 and see what that does.

  • Can't find button to update image size

I'm looking for the equivalent button in Dreamweaver CC. in CS5 when you clicked on an image, in the property pane you would see the image dimensions and next to it was a curved arrow.  This arrow would update the image size to the real size.  This was very convenient because if I made an image a different size in Photoshop it would not automatically update unless I clicked that curved button. I used that all the time.  I can't find it in Dreamweaver CC.   Is it gone?

I don't think that's the issue. The button described is gone from CC.
There are two others that replaced it though. A circle with line through it (we'll call the no smoking sign) and a checkmark.
If you hit the checkmark, it updates the actual file to whatever dimensions are used in the html. If you hit the no smoking sign, it goes to actual size, unless you hit the checkmark at any point prior to hitting the no smoking sign.
EDIT: I do find it odd that the checkmark will bring up a dialogue warning you that the original file will be updated, but only gives you the option of "OK". Seems like there should be a "Cancel" in there too, but it's not, just a note to use Undo if you don't want the original resized.

  • Finding and changing image size in a  Layer

    I am using CS4 on a Windows 7 platform.
I am creating a collage of several photos. I want to see and adjust the size of just the one photo on the layer I am working with. When I look at Image Size it shows the whole size, based on the background size. Example: My background is 16T x 20W. On layer 4 have a photograph and I want the maximum width to be 3.5 inches.
My question is: Is there somewhere I can go into a dialogue, set the size on whatever side I want, and have it resize automatically, rather than me doing it manually and using the rulers to do it?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
    BAZ

    Thanks for responding
Somehow I got into that before (in my search) and now for the dumb user question: I see that is in pixels, any way to get inches? Yes, I'm one of those, sorry.
Also, I was looking for a way to put in the size I wanted on the one side and have it automatically do the other. This appears to need percentages, not exact numbers. Am I missing something?
Thanks again for your response...I'll be back at you.

  • How do I set the image size in PS touch to print to my Epson printer w ithout losing any of the picture. PS Touch appears to be showing pixels and not inches, how can I covert it toshow inches?

I am using PS Touch from my tablet . I am importinga photo from an SD card . When all editing is completed I then send it wireless from the tablet  via Epson I print to the printer. It all works great except that part of the photo at each end is cut off and does not print. I am printing on 8.5 x11 paper.
How do I convert the image size in PSTouch frm pixels to inches?

Epson's iPrint has always been an oddball. It will always "zoom in" on an image to print even if you have the proper dimensions and resolution set for actual print size. I think other users have reported this, at least on Android.
You can't have PS Touch show inches instead of pixels at this time but you can use an online website to find out what you need to fit within a particular resolution. (Google "pixels to inches calculator".)

Unless you have the source files that were on the TC or Windows machine you will have to start over with a new library as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.  Your original library will remain intact for further attempts at fixes is so desired.

  • For the life of me, I can't find out what size a photo is in terms of inches or how to change the size of the photo[s] so I can print them. I think I read somewhere to click edit, then click adjust. Nothing there about sizing.

For the life of me, I can't find out what size a photo is in terms of inches or how to change the size of the photo[s] so I can print them. I think I read somewhere to click edit, then click adjust. I don't see anything about re-sizing when I click the adjust tab: only saturation and tint levels. Thank you.

With respect to digital images, there really is no size in inches. The size is given as number of pixels horizontally and vertically. In iPhoto '09 you click the little "i" inthe lower right side of the window and it will display information related to the selected photo, including the pixel dimensions. I do not have iPhoto '11 installed so I don't know if it is the same there.
In some applications, such as preview, it has something additional called Dots per Inch (DPI) which you would think would allow you to convert the pixel dimensions to inches. It is not a real thing, though. The DPI is determined by how large or small you have chosen to print your photo and the capabilities of your printer.
There is also something called Aspect Ratio, which is usually expressed in inches x inches such as 6x9 but that doesn't mean the size on the screen or when printed is 6x9.  It is the ratio of the pixel dimensions.  When cropping your photos, you will have several standard aspect ratios to choose from plus any custom ones you create.
In iPhoto '09, after you choose Print, in the Print Setting window are the settings for the size you want the photo printed. You want to shoose a setting with the same aspect ratio of your photo. Otherwise, iPhoto will resize and/or crop your photo to fit the size you have chosen.

  • IE incompatible ? Image size.

    Hi,
I know very little about HTML, CSS and the like but as a photographer I upload gallery webs all the time for clients etc. I generate these in PS CS2 or iView MediaPro and then upload to my server (shared web hosting).
With a current project requiring a 'site' type environment I decided to try iWeb. Before visiting this site please note that due to image sizes with iWeb it's a bit on the heavy side and if you're using IE on a PC BEWARE of crashes! Safari may even crash as has done with me.
    http://www.kura-images.com/camping
    Remarks and problems :
    1. As you can see my site does not resemble any iWeb template - using the 'modern' template I basically threw everything away and designed from scratch. It's a great WYSIWYG appli in that sense - no code - just drag and drop, resize, add some effects etc. I published regulary to a folder as a way of double checking but was impressed with the 100% WYSIWYG capability of iWeb
    2. Image size is a MAJOR problem. My concerns are specifically with the gallery pages generated from the photo page temps. Thumbnails at 16ko is too big and the motor that generates the large image files uses a single parameter (800pixels largest dimension) that cannot be changed in any pref settings etc. It also uses a compression factor which is a tad too high. Using Image Ready or the PS gallery web function (driven by Image Ready) I can get as good visual quality for my web-optimised JPEGS for 65% of the file size.
Note : I tried this file swap as a test
I changed one image in the folder for the "activités" page (activities_008) - I made a smaller thumbnail in ImageReady and created a 600pixel version of the large file; I replaced the images in the folder with these and checked the site. The thumb appears no problem in a smaller size (btw 6ko vs 16ko - that's a big diff when you apply it to 250 images !). SlideshowJS however has instructions to open the image at main size as determined by the slideshow index file creation generated by iWeb. And that's written as 800pixels. So on opening the 600 pixel image I'd replaced, slideshowJS opened it to 800pixels (not pretty). The only way to rectify that was to go into the source code in the relevant 'activités' js file, find the codeline for the image 008 and change the values manually. And I'd have to do that with 250 line of code ! That rather defeats the prupose of having a nice easy application to produce your galleries.
    3. Upload to my server via Transmit was trouble-free. No problems publishing to a non .mac server.
    4. Problem with the page titles. The names you give to pages determines the URL. Any spaces means you get the %20 thing and if, like me, you're writing in French the accents mean that iWeb has to get around the problem in a different, and not very practical, way. iWeb creates a random character line as a name, and uses that as the URL for pages where accents appear in the title. When the assets and index page are published those long character names appear on the index file and folder.
I also think that may lead to compatability issues with certain servers.
    5. But here's the BIG PROBLEM !
I had 4 people with PC's and IE (God bless 'em) check out the site. 2 reported repeated crashes of IE (unexpectedly quit exe. error). No problems with the homepage - just when clicking on some of the photo pages. What is really strange is that neither had problems when accessing the 'La Soirée' page, but both had problems with all the others. Apparently the crash came after IE tried to load the page, succeeded in loading a few thumbnails and then stopped and crashed 5-10secs later.
    6. EVEN WORSE !
I have gone back to my site several times, emptying Safari cache each time, and have succeded in stalling definitively Safari's attempts to load certain pages. Just stops with partial page upload. I then have to quit Safari and re-open to be able to access any web page (even other sites). Sometimes it's OK, sometimes not.
This site goes officially live on wednesday morning but for now it's a no-goer. Just too erratic and not IE compatible.
    PLEASE, any suggestions ?
    Many thanks in advance

Yes, it is best to avoid spaces and accents and special characters if you can. If you must have them in your navigation links, then don't use the iWeb nav bar. Instead give your pages very short simple names with the Inspector, uncheck the box for "include in nav bar," and just create ordinary hyperlinks for page navigation. I don't know if this will help with IE compatibility, but it can't hurt.
