Finder quits every now & then

every now and then, i'll find that the Finder quits while i'm using some other application, like Firefox. when i Cmd-Tab through the open apps, there's no Finder.
the only way to restart the Finder is to quit all open apps (pretty annoying), and then it starts up again.
anyone else having this problem? not sure if it's macbook specific...

i'm an idiot, i just realized what i did...
i have Onyx installed, and enabled the feature to be allowed to 'quit' the finder. one of my mouse button shortcuts is tied to 'cmd-q' and so everytime i clicked that button in the finder, it would quit it. duh.

CS6 locking up on me every now & then

Hey guys, I've been having this annoying problem with CS6 where every now and then no matter what I click, nothing would happen. I try clicking tools, layers, brushing something on the canvas and nothing happens. Even when I try to close the window i am using nothing happens. When I roll over the X the colors light up and everything but nothing happens (same when I roll over tools and swatches). Can't close or minimize anything. I've noticed it happening more often when I work on big files over 80mb. The only thing I can do is use shortcut keys to save whatever I have, quit photoshop and reopen again. Sometimes I have to reopen more than once.
It also happens a lot when I minimize PS and browse the web for a bit and come back. It's so annoying, and I worry that one day I won't even be able to use shortcut keys or access the top menus.
I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Mavericks. I recently updated to Mavericks, but even with the OS I had before that (10.7) I still had this same problem.

I'm having a similar problem. I click the CS6 icon on my desktop, the program goes through the initializing process, the window opens...and nothing happens. It freezes up, nothing works, nothing responds to the click of my cursor-arrow. I have to use control-alt-delete to exit. Any suggestions, anyone?

My finder quits when accessing my Drobo External Hard Drive iMac Dual Core 24"

My Finder Quits Every time I access my External Drobo 8TB Firewire Drive. I have several other FireWire Drives online with it and have no problem with them. This happened soon after the 10.7.2 update. I have a lot of files on this drive. Could it be the number of files that is causing the problem? Is there a Limit onnumber of folders on the surface of a drive? Please help if you can, I am desperate to preserve my software. But I need to do something soon, Or else I will have to just reformat the drive so I can use it again. I don't really want to do that.

I had the same problem but only after I upgraded to Lion. I could see the files on my external drive on other Macs using older software. It seems that Lion wasn't seeing old files on the external drive. So we accessed the files on a Mac using Snow Leopard, copied all the files into one new folder on the same external hard drive and now they're there on Lion. Problem solved! I hope this helps

Mail quits by itself every now and then

Apple Mail seems to quit by itself every now and then without crashing. Sometimes even during composing or reading an email. It seems to be highly unstable and when it quits, it leaves no trace of logs in the crashreporter. This is very annoying and frustrating, as I need to re-compose any possible email that I might be working on. Has anyone experience this and can someone please help?
I have my mail link to a corporate email server as well as a corporate ldap. I have also installed a 3rd party stationery and have multiple smart mailboxes setup but these have never given me the same issues as I do when I was using Mail on Leopard. My mail version is 4.2 (1077) and using SL (10.6.2).
Can someone please let me know how to resolve this?

Try this - find the /Library/Preferences folder in your user/Home folder and then locate and this file and temporarily move it to the desktop:
com.apple.mail.plist
*Caution* - doing this may clear your account settings so be sure to note those first in the event you are required to reconfigure, etc.
If this fixes the issue, you can delete the original plist---if not and you want to short-cut making any needed settings as before, delete the fresh plist and move the original back to where it was.

Might be Finder preferences are corrupted ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash
If that doesn't help, relaunch the Finder > Relaunch Finder… from the Mac OS X Finder

People - you critisize something you've no idea about! Smart dialing (also called T9) is NOT about text input for God's sake...it's about dialing a contact in a really quick and simple way just by clicking on one of 10 dial buttons (much bigger and easier to be tapped btw especially on the move) and the phone finds all the contacts matching typed combination
For example I want to dial contact MLADD - I then tap on 6,5,2,3,3 and the phone searches for contacts matching all the combinations hidden on these numbers.
Another example: see Apple's website containing contact line number specified in 2 ways: (800) MY-IPHONE (800-694-7466)
Do you get my point now?
I've used at least 6 different phones in my life so far and went through most of well known platforms including Symbian, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone and now iOS. I'm very sure there is no better and faster way to quickly and easily dial somebody but by using a smart dial. Dialing somebody this way takes 2 seconds while dialing using tapping on contacts field, then typing a word using keyboard (assuming you click on a right button when on the move) takes a while longer and is frustrating.
It's just a matter of a wider perspective when looking at this problem. If you would use it at least once - you would demand it as well.
For people liking tapping everywhere to perform basic actions - let it be as it is, but why not to improve something by adding an additional option in setting and enable SmartDial?

Could be a defective battery, you should get it checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place.

Freezing and then blue screen every now and then

I have just bought a iMac G5 with iSight and every now and then the machine will freeze for 2-10 seconds, then go to a blue screen. Audio is only affected when it freezes and all background tasks seem to run without issue. The blue screen can stay up for about anywhere between 3 to 40 seconds.
Anyone seen this or have any idea?

Good time to check the startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% free disk space.*
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode

I have reset the phone, full firmware restore, even downgraded back from firmware 4.2.1 to .3.1.3 official by using dfu mode and still doesnt fix.
(i correctly got out of dfu mode after the downgrade)
i can enter dfu mode and recovery, and update through itunes with no problem, but it doesnt fix the problem,
i have searched and found no answer to this problem, every option availible to try that i know of i have tried and failed. i dont care about preserving my content i just want a fix. i have a good understanding how to operate software on a computer and shouldnt be too confused by any advice given, so plz even if the answer is very complex i wish to try anything, please help me to get my iphone working.

Every now and then I get about a half second clip of another song

Every now and then I get about a half second clip of another song at the end of a song. If you immediately go back and play the same again, you get the same little burp at the end. But if you play three or four songs and then go back, the little burp is not there. I did a restore on the ipod, and I am still getting the little burps. It only happens maybe once out of every 10 songs played.
Files are MP3's which play fine on the PC in WMP and itunes, and on Dell DJ15, Zune and Sansa MP3 players. Some of the MP3s were ripped from CD using MusicMatch, some recorded off old lps using Creative Go!, and some downloaded so I don't think it is an issue with the MP3s themselves. Since I use several different players, I don't want to maintain a separate AAC library just for the ipod.
Usually the burst is so short that you can't even tell who the artist was, but when I have recognized it was always something very close alphabetically - at the end of a Cream song I got a little Creed, at the end of a Bad Company song I got a little Bachman-Turner Overdrive, at the end of a Led Zeppelin track I got a little Linkin Park.

I'm starting to think it's either an AirPort card issue or something to do with the Mac OS. I have stopped using wireless as much as possible in my home (have wired up several new Ethernet outlets), and it sure is nice having Internet run at the speed it's supposed to all the time, and with no drops. Might be something to consider.
In the meantime:
Open System Preferences > Network > select AirPort > click on Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6 > Off > OK > Apply > Turn AirPort Off > Turn AirPort On
Open System Preferences > Network > select Ethernet > click on Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6 > Off > OK > Apply
(FOR LION: If you can’t see an option to turn ipv6 off, set it to link-local only.)

Every now and then it won't allow me to type.

The browser works fine its just every now and then it gets to were i can not type or copy and paste. Its like its frozen and it make this sound. the only way to solve it is to shut down the tab and start all over again. its really bad then i type something long and it freezes

Hey, There are afew things you can try.
- Simply turn your phone off and back on again
- Hold down your home button and your lock button and let goes as soon as the screen goes black (Phone will power down) - Then turn on your phone and hey presto!
- Back up your iPhone to your PC, then restore it..
this ones last cause I think you may have tried it already..
- Close all open applications

Yes done that several times. Went online with with my service provider, O2. Spoke to a "Guru" sent me an E-Mail with the settings so I could put them in manually incase the reset did'nt work.
