Finder quits responding when lost network resource

Why does finder stop responding when a connection to a network share gets dropped? Really annoying when trying to relaunch finder and nothing happens.....

In the case when you are sharing a network volume and you move to a new network (like going from work to home), I have found that if you click the 'eject' button of the no-longer-available volume, the Finder as well as the entire machine hangs indefinately. The only way out is a force restart.
Can anyone from Apple comment on this?

  • Photoshop CS4 quits responding when using 3D

Photoshop CS4 quits responding when selecting new texture in materials section under opacity in 3D. I have not had this happen till just a few weeks ago. It was working just fine. I run an IMac with 2 gig of ram. My graphics card is a ATI,RadeonX1600.

Ok I have tried turning off OpenGL and it seems to be just the Opacity, but it still locks up even if I just raise or lower the opacity level or pick new texture. By the way I called apple tech yesterday and they offered to roll me back to previous update but if anything occurred as a result of it, it would cost me $49.00 per incident. The tech also said that adobe needs to be the one with an update for the problem. Man what a mess. Well that all being said I will just have to use my MacBookPro for my 3D work. I have no problem with Photoshop on it. How do I get Adobe to do an update for the problem.

  • Itunes quits responding when i try to open prefrences

I have two profiles on my computer; an administator account for my self, and a user account for my daughter.  After installing itunes on my account I had to swithsc to her account for something and was suprised to find that as soon as I opened her account itunes also began an install there.  She has an ipod touch so I liked this process.  Unfortunatly after itunes installed on her profile I tried to open "prefrences" under the edit tab to install music and apps for her.  Every time I try to open "prefrences" itunes quits responding.  It seems to be the only tab that freezes itunes.  I checked and it is the most current version of itunes.  Any one got any ideas?

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

  • Finder not responding when opening folders: Beachball spins for 2 minutes

Hi, whenever, I attempt to view the contents of my folder (Any folder, folder with a few items in it or a folder with a lot of items in it), I get the beachball of death spin. Then, I try to force quit and I notice that the finder is not responding. After a good two minutes the beachball stops spinning and then I can view my folder contents. When I attempt to view the folder's content, it doesn't freeze up my application use, however it does stop me from trashing objects.
    Any suggestions

    Bayside,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Locate the com.apple.finder.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder, drag it to the Desktop, and log out/in or restart and let us know what happens.
That recommendation presumes that you can ultimately open the windows required to accomplish that task
If you are unable to open the necessary windows, start up in Safe Mode and try the same thing.

  • Has anyone noticed Finder not responding when you try to shutdown?

No problem when I turn my machine on, but 30 minutes later the problem emerges.  Another symptom seems to be that the pictures of icons start to disappear in folders.  The files are still there, but the icon picture is blank.  Then I can't delete things, or move things...and when I try to shutdown it hangs on not being able to sutdown Finder.

Mostly 1080p 24 fps .mov files, plus some images and then animated titles.
I've managed to find an early version from before the "toxic" animation so I'm working from that but it's incredbily slow.
Playback and rendering is seriously slow, but looking at the Activity Monitor that seems to be because my CPU is at 200% whilst RAM has around 1gb free. I'm on a 2.53 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, would an i5 or i7 make a huge difference?
I can only go as fast as Firewire 800, would you reccommend editing from there? I was thinking of getting a G Drive 2tb... My MBP doesn't have USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt capability unfortunately.

  • Temp solution to iTunes "Not Responding" when no network present

I turned off airport and unplugged ethernet, then started iTunes. It didn't crash, so I un-checked "Automatically check for iTunes updates" in iTunes prefs. Now it doesn't try to hit the network at launch, and it works fine. Just don't try to "Get CD track names" or anything else that requires the network, or iTunes will crash again.
    Hope it helps

  • Strange network resource display, no AFP but get SMB/FTP access.

On a Mac OS X 10.4.6 system, when the network resources are accessed via the finder or the 'go' menu option, the system seems only able to access SMB or FTP shares, even though the corresponding machine is an Mac OS X 10.4.6 system
and shares AFP volumes with other Mac OS X 10.4.6 systems.
    For example:
On the broken machine, I have:
    Network->My Network->Big_Machine
    Network->My Network->Big_Machine
    Network->WinNet->Big_Machine
    Network->WinNet->BigJunkWindows
When I access, say the first item in 'My Network', I get a FTP access dialog. When I access the Second item, I get the SMB dialog.
When I access the Big_Machine in the WinNet, I get the SMB dialog.
Needless to say, on a 'working' system accessing 'Big_Machine', I get the AFP
dialog under "My Network", and the SMB dialog under the WinNet.
... and further... 'My Network' is not the name of the WinNet...
    Any clues appriciated...
    John Clark

It's not that AFP is messed up. I can access the machine via AFP from other machines. It's the stuff that is in the finder window that seems to be 'really' confused.
I'll have to test this when I get to the machine, but as I recall, if I explicit use the 'go' menu, then explicitly use 'afp://192.168.0.153' to access the remote machine, this works, and gives me the AFP prompt.
The behavior seems to indicate that the finder has recorded some 'path/url' wrongly, and refuses to be refreshed.

  • How do I restore a backup CD of iTunes? The process keeps stalling and quits responding

iTunes stalls operation and quits responding when I try to import iTunes backup files from a backup CD. 68 files made it before it quit restoring the rest completely.
Also, I downloaded and installed the 64 bit version of the program, however it shows up in the Task Manager as 32 bit when I attempt to end process. I have a new 64 bit machine.
Any help would be appreciated. I want my 1,600 tunes back. It's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

There is a 64-bit installer, but the core application is still 32-bit.
iTunes hasn't provided its own CD backup routine for a couple of years. What was used to make the backup discs? Were they verified on the source computer? Do you still have it? Are the files on an iPod or iOS device?

    Hi all,

I suppose that it's due to a bad configuration of my local loop but I can't understand where is the problem. I'm behind a NAT, here is what ifconfig says:

I tried to add a route for localhost using lo but nothing changes.
my hosts.allow contains all my local IP addresses (127.0.0.1, 192.168.0.2) and all the iptables policy are ACCEPT without any other rules.
Can someone explain to me why I can't use my computer when my network is down ?

Do you have a proper localhost entry in /etc/hosts?
    Like

  • Finder quit unexpectedly pops up every time a boot it up and won't let me do anything else. Please Help!!

ON boot i get the message finder quit unexpectedly, when I hit Ok it thinks for a second and the pops up again , Help!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
