Finder re-sizer corner not responded.

My finder seems to work fine, however when it sets for awhile on the screen the window size becomes basically stuck. I try to resize it with the re-sizer in the bottom right hand corner but it is unresponsive. If for example I have the finder in column view and I expand the farthest most right column it will expand beyond the finder window but the window will remain in its current size creating a horizontal slider bar on the bottom. This stuck effect only happens when finder sets for a little while on the screen.

  • I have an issue with Finder. It does not respond

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Finder freezes and does not respond

I have an iMac with an Intel Core i3, using Mac OS X - 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  My finder continually freezes up on me and I have to re-launch the finder various times a day (I'm talking like 30 times a day sometimes).  I use a lot of actions in Photoshop and a lot of AppleScripts to make particular files all day long.  Sometimes Photoshop will hesitate for about a minute when trying to save tiffs - I usually re-launch the finder and it does fine for awhile.  I use to run a script that build my PDF file a certain way and would freeze up when it was using an action in the script to make a picture of it to put it on another server.  Now I'm using another more advanced script and it freezes inbetween the making of multiple PDF files - until I re-launch the finder, then it continues.  There have been various times no matter what I'm doin, the finder would - "not respond".  During these times it would make Illustrator and Photoshop to "not respond", sometimes I have to force quite programs, other times I just re-launch the finder and then everything responds good - for a time.  The odd thing about this, is I have swiched machines, using all the same versions and programs, scripts and actions, and still does the same thing.  I have moved around the room connecting to another ethernet thinking it might have been the connection, but no luck.  I seem to be the only one in my department that has these type of issues to this magnitude.  Other people here have had freezes and glitches, but not like me. I use a lot of personalized key commands and the only thing I can think of, is the combination of my personalized key commands in all programs, all the actions and all the scripts I use, may be a little too much for the iMac with Snow Leopard to handle.  Plus we are hooked up to multiple servers with the scripts telling certain files to go to certain directories.  Note: simply restarting does not fix any of this.  Does anybody have any ideas about this issue???

You can remove the volume from /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/config/automount.plist . Then you mount manualy with the following command:
    mkdir /Volumes/<volname>
    mount -t acfs volname /Volumes/Volnames
from xsan 2.0 you can use the xsanctl command to mount:
    xsanctl mount <volname>
I do not use 2.0 yet, so did not test it.
An empty automount.plist looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    </dict>
    </plist>

  • Finder Window Size Issues (not resizing properly)

everytime I open a window in the finder it opens and I drag to resize and then close. I reopen the folder and its size is wrong not what I just resized to. This happens on every finder window not opening how I resized it. Any clues?

This has been pet peeve of mine for years. Apple invented windows, but it seems to be the only developer which is incapable of programming the operation of this basic interface correctly. Even Microsoft Windoze got this right when they stole the concept. When you hit the resize button in a Microsoft application the window does the same thing - every time, while every Macintosh application acts differently when you click the green button...very annoying, to say the least.

  • Downloads in Finder sidebar .oes not respond,

When I open downloads tab in the Finder sidebar, Finder does not respond. I have already tried restarting my mac, downloads in the Finder sidebar still does not respond. Please help me!!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Finder Not responding after result of moving all my music HELP

I am really panicing here and you probibly get this allot but....
i was moving some duplicate songs into the trash and selected the wrong files to delete and moved all my music to the trash so i thought no problem i will get it out of the trash and put it into a temporary file so that it does not clutter my desktop so i did that. then i moved all my files by accident and now they sit on my dekstop, the problem now is that my music is on my desktop but i cannot acess my finder as it is not responding and taking up all my cpu. i don't want to be drastic and replace my os to solve the problem becuase i really need my music back. and i don't want to lose any of my music as me being like everyone else have not backed it up.
is there a solution to this where i don't have to replace my os or lose any of my music. because my finder is not responding i cannot acess spotlight properly and get all my music back help please anyone i am realy panicing here :>

The exact string given will move the current desktop folder to a folder named OldDesktop which is located directly inside your home folder; this is the folder in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon. Once done, the Finder should become more responsive, and you can retrieve the items you want on your desktop from the OldDesktop folder. Nothing will be deleted from the computer.

  • App Store not responding (Mountain Lion)

    Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble with App Store after reformatting my MBP hard drive and restoring everything from a backup. App Store is unresponsive from launch; as soon as I open it, it goes to a spinning beachball, and Finder identifies it as "not responding." There is a spinning progress meter in the upper-left corner of the window, and all the App Store buttons and text fields are greyed out. I left it running overnight, with no apparent change; Activity Monitor shows it with low but constant level of CPU usage (~0.8%).
History: I had to reformat my MacBook Pro's hard drive after somehow knocking loose a RAM chip a week ago. I reinstalled OSX, and then had to manually restore my Time Machine backup since my external hard drive also got damaged... It's really been a great week Specifically, I stuck the hard drive into a Linux desktop with a SATA cable, used tmfs to copy the most recent backup to a different external hard drive, then copy-and-pasted my home directory back onto my MacBook Pro.
Current status: I just tried reinstalling Mountain Lion, with no luck. Because of all the copy-and-pasting through a Linux filesystem, a lot of my file ownerships and permissions are screwed up, but everything passes a Disk Utility permissions verification and repair. I have also tried deleting ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore, with no effect.
Thanks in advance for any help!

OK, apologies, but I already solved the problem (I think). Console indicated that the problem was actually that the App Store was trying to file a crash report from the previous iteration of killing the process with command-alt-escape, but didn't have permissions to write to the relevant folder (see below). The folder in question had been set to owner 'root' by Ubuntu when I recovered my broken Time Machine drive, so I changed the owner back to myself. App Store opens and operates normally now.
I'm a bit puzzled as to why Disk Utility wasn't able to identify and fix the permissions on these system files and folders. Does anybody know why, and if there's a way for me to batch-fix all of my files that Ubuntu has switched to 'root'?

  • OS 10.9 Finder sidebar suddenly does not displaying proper contents

OS 10.9 Finder sidebar suddenly does not display most items; only shows couple items I don't even want there.  Can change what shows in first finder window but sidebar not responding to "Preference" changes.  Screen shot is what it shows now. I downloaded a Yahoo widget and their widget player app today, could that cause this?

I did force quite finder--> no effect.
Finder uaed to list in "sidebar" each of the main folders in HD i.e Documents, Pictues, Downloads, Movies, Applications...(I get same window contents open if click on HD icon  as when clikc on Finder). Now none of that.
Just now went back into preferences and unchecked everything in sidebar section. If I check for it to just show HD then everuything does show up but several windows to the right and HD icon is all that shows in sidebar but only if I first then click on (in order across the open windows: Users then geoffreylevens1 (system name).
If recheck items they do NOT show up in sidebar.  See attached

  • Photoshop CS is Not Responding

    Running:
    Photoshop CS
    Windows 7
    Story:
So I was printing some documents a few days ago, left for a few hours with the document still open. I came home to find my Photoshop was not responding. It has been unresponsive since. It will load the splash-screen then the tools and layering windows will pop up, but then its completely dead.
I was doing some reading into this issue and found someone had had an eerily similar issue about 99% the same, but there was never a solid resolution to the problem.
    So far attempted:
    - ctl + alt + shift to delete prefs.
    - Manually deleting all tool prefs
    - Running in comparability mode (which some how makes it worse)
    - Making sure program is run as administrator.
    - Uninstalling and re-installing
    - Uninstalling all components to my printer (since someone else had the same error after printing)
    - Uninstalling all recently added fonts
    Interesting Tidbits
    - Photoshop will not uninstall and reinstall by itself now without crashing the installer. The whole creative suite needs to be uninstalled to remove Photoshop. (not that this worked any)
    - All other CS programs are working fine, Image Ready Included.
    - When in Image ready, if you click the link to Photoshop it will pop up with an error saying "unable to find helper program on your computer"
Hopefully that's enough info to help pinpoint the problem. In tearing my hair out trying to find the solution and Adobe wouldn't help me even if I paid them to. D: CS is no longer supported, and I really don't feel the need to upgrade from something that works (or worked) perfectly fine for my needs. Thanks to anyone who read my issue, whether you know of a solution or not I am grateful for your time.
    Next Solutions if none found:
    - Safemode restore to two weeks ago.
    - Total system restore.

Don't give up completely on that yet...  A reboot after having made a different printer the default might be in order, then a retest of Photoshop.

  • After install 10.5.7 update QMaster/Compressor hangs/not responding??

I find it funny that the 10.5.7 update was supposed to "improve OS stability". Well it looks like all it has done is made my Mac a worthless pile of pooh.
I have an older MacPro (2007) with two dual core processors (4 CPUs). I setup QMaster as QuickCluster with services (this is the only way Compressor will see it when I submit a batch). I selected 2 CPU instances. Hit "Submit" in Compressor and open the batch window, I see it "try" to parse out the video segments to 2 CPU instances, but get Audio successful and Video "Unknown" with a Service controller "error" and a progress bar for the main batch at 50% with time duration increasing (never decreases).
So I bring up Activity Monitor and find that coreaudio is "not responding" compressor is "not responding" and final cut pro is "not responding" ... oh joy!!
All this "used" to work before the 10.5.7 update, so what gives???
How to reproduce on my hardware:
    1. Open FCP
    2. Create a Sequence
    3. Send Sequence to Compressor
    4. In Compress I have a predefined H.264 setting and destination with "Job segmenting" checked, hit submit
    5. Open batch window, look at 50% mark with errors mentioned above
    NOT very happy.
    Rob

Compressor repair? Can you give me more details on what this is?
I had FCP to Compressor using QMaster (2 CPU instances) working in 10.5.6. It created some bizarre project name under FCP (i.e. 13DAA64E-8A34-4476-A12B-86) but would work. With 10.5.7 the same steps just hang/fail -- fail as in they Submitted batch never completes (I can leave it for 10 hours on a H.264 small duration clip of 30 seconds).
So now (with 10.5.7) the only way I can get Compressor and Qmaster to work is if I export sequence to QuickTime movie, close FCP, open Compressor create a new batch using the exported QT movie, set my settings/destination then submit. Which defeats the purpose of using a 2 Instance QMaster in the first place since I've had to introduce a Export to Quicktime in FCP. So essentially any benefit using 2 CPUs has been negated by the extra export step.
Sorry for the frustration/tone, but if I wanted this much hassle with Mac software/OS, I would have just stayed exclusively on a Windows based platform -- as of right now I see very little difference between the two companies, both are not responsive to correct obvious problems and both create more work than solutions. I gotta wonder why I even selected to use a Mac and why I successfully converted at 11 friends over from Windows to Mac - SSDD.
    Frustrated.

  • Reminder email to people who have not responded to a survey

    Hi,
I have a requirement where I need to create a survey list with multiple Questions. And send these in an email as a link. and It has to pause for couple of days, then I need to find out who has not responded to the survey, and an email has to be triggered
    only to those people.
As of now I have added a sharepoint group called KQSO-Survey User, also added a designer workflow on Survey, which sends email to all people who are listed in KQSO-Survey User, and It Pauses for 2 days.
But I am not really sure How do I find people from KQSO-Survey Group who have not responded to the survey and send only those users a reminder email.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Poonam

    Hi Poonam,
You don't have to traverse through the SP Group to find people who have not filled the survey. You can look at the Tasks list. Once a task is completed, workflow is going to mark the Status as Completed. If you first group them by the Related Item, then
by Status, it will show you those who have completed and those that haven't for a particular Survey that you send out.
Remember that completing the survey and completing a task would be two separate things that users might have to do. This is my understanding.

I booted up this morning to find my voice over feature active. A black bar was at the lower left corner of my screen. When I began to click on the users in my login window it would not respond. All that I saw was the black bar saying authentication busy. I was not able to restart, I was not able to switch users, I was not able to shut down. I decided to manually shut down my Mac.  when it booted back up I was looking at the disk utility screen. When I clicked on repair or race it indicated that my hard drive had already been arranged. I was looking at completely formatted drive and I was having to either restore from Time Machine or reinstall lion. I had a back up but why did this happen?

A possible workaround could be to have the horizontal scroll bar visible all the time.

  • Apple (Finder) menu do not respond

I make a search but could find anything related to this specific trouble.
It has happen already few time (3) after download or update a soft (QT) Apple/Finder Menu does not respond anymore to function SLEEP, RESTART and SHUT DOWN.
I have repair permission (no result), run ONYX 1.5.3 (no result), Disk Warrior 4.0 (no result), eDrive -TTP 4.1.2- (no result)...
The Mac (almost) never stop or put in sleep to let utilities like Onyx and TTP check/repair automatically on night.
Since I thought it should be a corrupted preference file, I moved on desktop com.apple.finder.plist, com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and restart.
The two first time I did that, Finder was working again normally. But this time not !
I also try disable Application Enhancer 2.0.2 for testing and also kill the finder from Activity Monitor (an advise), through away again com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.systemuiserver.plist.
At restart, still no response at menu Sleep, start etc...
Any idea what could I try now to solve that ? It's so boring !

    Hi cldjr!
Which of your Macs are you having a problem with? The iMac or the iBook?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
By all means, run Repair Permissions, as Dimaxum suggested, which should be run from Disk Utility, located in the Utilities folder, while booted from the Startup Volume, not from the system disc. Instructions posted below.
In addition, if you are able to startup from the system disc, run Repair Disk. Instructions posted below.
If neither of those corrects the problem, reinstalling the 10.3.9 Combo Update, may correct the problem.
When completed, run Repair Permissions once again.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.

  • Computer Freezes - Finder (not responding)

So I've tried as many fixes and solutions that I could find and nothing is correcting what's happening. Even after deleting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Mavericks from a usb drive. I can use the computer for maybe a 1/2 hour and then it completely freezes up and in Task Manager it says the Finder is not responding. I can work in Safe boot mode fine, which makes me thing its a hardware issue. But I've done a hardware test (restart, hold "D", do test) and it says there is no problems.
I heavily depend on my computer for work so this  very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated. Here is my latest Etrecheck file:
