Finder Relaunches every 6 right clicks

Hi everyone, I have had a day of clearing things out, but now, my window Im working in within finder is disappearing on every 6th right click, so imagine I am looking at my folder and I right click to get info or the like, the window will disappear and all the icons on the desktop will disappear and then reappear a second late, no quit message just disappear, I have done a full Onyx cleanup, but still there, I am using Transmission a lot, but have only had this problem for 24 hours, could it be torrent related, I did upgrade stuffit last night, but apart from that no other system changes.
Any ideas?

Dubaimac: Looks like you can put all your contextual menu plug-ins back except the Stuffit-CM plugin if Dan's experience applies to yours as well.
Of course there is a chance that two different plug-ins are fighting each other trying to do things that while done separately would be legal, but done together cause the Finder to crash..
Dan Frimi: Did you have any other contextual plug-ins besides the StuffitCM plugin in your contextual menu items plugin folder? Looking to see if maybe there were other common plug-ins to eliminate this possibility.
If we can determine that you both had different other plug-ins, then we can isolate the StuffitCM as the sole cause of this issue, and you should both write complaints to their tech support department about the plug-in to get a fix... Dan, did you check to see if there was an update for that plug-in?

  • FINDER relaunches itself after every 6th right click

Hey, my macbook pro has been doing some strange things. Every 6th right click anywhere on the finder results in a crash and relaunch of FINDER application. It also stops the CD burning process. Updates are not helping either.
Anyone else suffering from the same problem?

I had a similar problem on my iMac. I ignored it until the finder started popping up ANY time I clicked on the desktop. Genius bar suggested I try to reinstall Tiger and that seemed to work. Good luck!

  • Finder re-starts every 3rd right click

Description pretty much states this strange and new behavior, ever since I updated to 10.4.10.
Right clicking on my desk top three times in a row results in finder restart.
even if I right click on a folder or icon it happens but if I am using an actual app
    it doesn't happen.
I first noticed when I was toasting some files(right click to toast menu)

    D G5 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

It sounds like an item in HD/Library/Contextual Menu Items. Drag the contents of that folder to the desktop and test again. If that sorts it put the items back one at a time to find the culprit..
If that's not it, navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and do the same.
    Let us know.

  • Finder refreshes if I right click (Ctrl-Click)

Every-time I try to right click or Ctrl-Click on an icon, it refreshes my Finder. I have tried the black optical mac mouse, a Logitech MX 700 wireless, and a regular Logitech optical. When I say refresh I mean more of a restart. My open windows are closed and my desktop icons go away then come back. My open apps are not affected. Help!!!

    Hi Matthew,
It sounds like it could be an item in /library/contextual menu items. Drag the contents of that folder to the desktop and test again. If that sorts it, put the items back one at a time to find the culprit.
If that's not it, navigate to ~(yourhome)/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Finder.crash.log open it and paste the contents here for the latest Finder crash and maybe we can figure what's going on.

  • Finder Relaunch every minute

After I installed the new security update, Finder now relaunches every minute....Can some please offer assistance?

Hi jazidup911, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Most likely it's Stuffit AVR, Stop it in System Preferences, though a few others have been implicated...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1873700&tstart=0
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it is some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Does your finder relaunch every time ?

Since i installed Mavericks the Finder relaunches itself every time (three or more times by minute).
And i also notice that when i open an application in full screen, i can't stay on this wondow's application.
Is it the same for you ?

There have been hints to GoogleDrive being the culprit. See if quitting it remedies the situation.
If you want to further use it: unchecking the "Show file syn status icons" in GoogleDrive's references helped with my installation.

  • I downloaded Mavericks, but now I cannot launch Finder. When I right click it says "Application Not Responding."  And when I single click, it says "Finder Cannot be Opened."  I tried to contact Apple Support, but blocks the sharescreen from launching too.

I'm not sure what the deal is...  It won't allow a multitude of programs to launch or run...  I re-installed Mavericks and tried repairing the disk, etc...  Does anyone have a fix?  Thank you!

    Hey John,
I managed to search Consule from the spotlight and pull up the crash logs...  I had to Select, Copy, and Paste extremely quick, as the crash is in a continuous loop cycle and keeps filling the logs and deleting the old ones.
Thank you in advanced for any help or suggestions!

  • Finder relaunces after right click...

this is odd. recently, i've noticed that my finder windows will close and the finder will relaunch every once in a while after a right click. after further investigation, i realized it's every THIRD right click. it's like clockwork. it doesn't matter if i'm right clicking with my mighty mouse, or my wireless microsoft mouse or with my trackpad.
this has gotten to be extremely frustrating, any help would be much appreciated.

This is usually indicative of an incompatible Contextual Menu Item. If you've installed any third-party CMIs then I suggest your remove them. Then test each one individually. If they all work then it will be an interaction problem. Start with one, then add one at a time until the problem occurs.
You will need to restart each time you make a change.
CMIs are installed in either the /Library/Contextual Menu Items/ folder or the /Home/Library/Contextual Menu Items/ folder.

  • Right Click Menu Keeps Popping Up (Finder)

Hello all, just wondering if anyone else is having this problem in the Finder. If I right-click on something in the Finder, then left-click on something else, the right-click menu keeps popping up even if I have only one finger on my trackpad.
I tried removing my entire hand from anywhere near the trackpad and carefully touching the button with my index finger with all the rest of my fingers curled away and it still pops up the right-click menu.
The only thing that seems to cure it is switching focus to Firefox or some other application, then going back to the Finder. Clicking on a non-icon in the finder seems to help too. However, after right-clicking something then switching to a different icon, the right-click menu pops up again. Very annoying.
Anyone know a quick fix for this? Thanks in advance.

That's right, burgback. I actually think I may have found the issue: I use a prefpan / application called FolderGlance that lets you customize folders that appear in the contextual (right-click) menu. It even lets you dive into subfolders from an expanding right-click menu. Think about it as "stacks on steroids" because it lets you continue to dive into subfolders (unlike stacks...grrr).
Anyway, disabling the prefpane and removing the plugin from the ~/Library/Contextual\Menu\Items/ directory seems to have fixed the problem for now. I'll update if it doesn't, but I've been operating for about 30 minutes now without issue. Formerly the problem would rear its head about every 10 seconds I was in the Finder.
The only unfortunate part is...I love FolderGlance way more than stacks and I'm sad to see it go.

  • Firefox makes an annoying bing noise every time I right click or click on any of the task bar buttons (the file edit view, ect ones)

Alright, so I got firefox, opened it up, and I had been trying to figure out how to change my homepage, so I clicked file, and it made this really irritating bing noise, which definitely caught my attention. So as I looked through the other menus at hand for a solution to the problem it continued making the noise. When I didn't find a way, I right clicked and made the noise when I did that too, right clicking didn't help me solve my problem either, so I had to resort to help, and most of what I saw already in their that could have help I didn't understand, something about genome default sounds and yeah. Please help.

Why are you trying to convert MP3 to AAC?
This is not really needed unless you require an AAC file.

  • Right click context menu opens then closes quickly in Finder

After my upgrade to Snow Leopard, I now have a problem with Finder. When I right click on something to get the context menu, sometimes, it works fine, and others, the contextual menu shows up for a second then closes. The only way I can select any of those options is to right click and hold, then select. This is getting annoying.
It seems like maybe a corrupt preference? Anyone seen this before or have an idea how to solve it?

I knew I wasn't alone! This has happened with my install of Snow Leopard as well. The only difference is that this started happening immediately after the install and I did a fresh formatted install, not an upgrade.
I made a short video about it here:
    http://qik.com/video/2742618
Any help on this would be appretiated. It seems like this isn't too widespread an issue, but who knows. People might not be piping up about it. It is incredibly annoying, however.

  • Mouse right click randomly causes Finder to reboot

A random reboot of the Finder occurs when I right click in an open folder or on the desktop. The desktop will blank, all icons temporarily disappear and open folders will close. I then have to reopen folders to resume work.
    I have tried:
    -rebooting
    -different mice
    -repairing permissions and disk
This occured sometime after installing 10.4.8.
I have an iMac 24" Core 2 Duo.
    Thank you for any help.
    iMac 24" Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Often this is caused by an incompatible Contextual Menu Item. If you have installed any third-party CMIs, then I suggest you remove them and restart. If the problem ceases then you will know a third-party CMI is the culprit.
Another possible cause is a corrupted preference file. Navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder, locate the com.apple.finder.plist file and drag it to the Trash (do not delete.) Now restart the computer. If this fixes the problem then delete the one in the Trash. If it doesn't fix the problem then move the one in the Trash back to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.
