Finder repeatedly beachballs in Mavericks on 2009 iMac.
I have a 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac with 8gb ram running Mavericks. In both 10.9.2 and 10.9.4 it will beachball for 15-30 seconds every time I try to do anything in finder. Force Quit Applications will show Finder (not responding) while this is happening. It will always end up working after the 15-30 seconds but doing ANYTHING in finder causes this (opening a folder, clicking on desktop, clicking on an external disk).
At first I thought this was my hard drive going bad so I replaced the hard drive and restored my software from a Time Machine backup. Still had the same problem. My next step was to wipe the hard drive and re-install mavericks and no other programs. The problem still happened. I've tried repairing permissions and doing repair disk. At this point I updated from 10.9.2 to 10.9.4 and still have the same problem.
My drive has a small second partition on it running 10.6.8. Booting into Snow Leopard = NO FINDER PROBLEMS!! which makes me think this is not a hardware issue. Any ideas?
Console doesn't seems to have error messages that coincide with the beachballs. Also, I can access and use any program besides finder while it's beachballing with no issues (for instance typing this in chrome while finder locks up).

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

I have a 2009 iMac running on Mavericks. Since a few days, when I open the Download Map from the dock, I only see "empty" icon symbols. When I leave the map open the icons re-appear after some 20 seconds. When I re-open the downloads, the icons are empty again.
How do I get the icons to behave in a normal way again?bro I just had this issue its as simple as swiping to the right of each album artwork that does not display in the list view (On your Iphone.) Once you swipe to the right on every album that does not display in the list view you will see the delete option come up. Hit delete! Dont be scared. Do this with every album art that does not show up and then resync your Iphone. Go to the list view again and all of your missing album artwork will be displayed in both the list overview and close up landscape mode.

Installing Windows 7 on a late 2009 iMac running Mavericks
I'm running a perfectly good late-2009 iMac running Mavericks and had a bootcamp partition that worked until I needed to replace my hard drive.
Now I want to install Windows 7 (via bootcamp) for gaming. Bootcamp 5 won't download the software or allow a USB/ISO Windows 7 load due to my model/ROM version, which is:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 3.33 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM101.00CC.B00
I've read quite a few threads about the apple software download server issues, creating an ISO, adjusting the BootCamp package, using virtualbox, etc. to bypass this. But can't find anything addressing my specific situation where I'm running mavericks AND have an older ROM version that won't allow USB install for some stupid reason.
I've made an ISO boot disk (and USB), tried adjusting my BootCamp package strings, and have virtualbox, winclone, Daemon tools, etc. but can't get to the point where I can upload the bootcamp software and Win7. Has anyone solved this problem? No one has done this before?

Has anyone noticed issues running Mavericks with a late 2009 iMac? I see slow performance occasionally, even though I'm not really doing much (Safari, mail, maybe an Excel spreadsheet). My iMac has 4G memory, 3GHz dual core CPU; memory pressure is amber and memory used is 3.98G, VM 12.1G, swap used 1.81G. I'm thinking we've just hit the memory ceiling and it's time to cough up the bucks to bring it to 16G, but I wanted to reach out to the community first, get a feel for how others are finding Mavericks works on their older equipment, before I put a couple hundred bucks into a 4 year old computer.
What you do in the interim is try a Safe Mode boot.
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
1. AppZapper 2.0.1
2. AppDelete 3.2.6
3. Automaton 1.50
4. Hazel
5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
6. CleanApp
7. iTrash 1.8.2
8. Amnesia
9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

Need help with Late 2009 imac- had HD and video card replaced under Apple Care last year. Upgraded to Mavericks and it froze up while on Yahoo looking at a slide show. Screen pixelated with checkerboard patterns and then eventually locks-up. Only way to get it to work now is in SAFE MODE.
Tried memory test, Resetting SMC, AHT, Zapping NVRAM, PRAM, only errors I can see are some permissions

New kernel panic is now as follows-
What's interesting is I had the video card replaced at Apple in the last year- it's a ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
But I see that the log has it listed as
"com.apple.ATIRadeonX2000(8.2.4)"
wondering if that my be the problem as the issue is the screen is fragmented and flickers- checkerboard before it crashes when not in safe mode..

Having downloaded Mavericks to my IMac two weeks ago, I now find Time Machine couldn't back up to the Time Machine HDD. I am using a WD 1TB External Hard drive. I understand that a number of people have lost data since installing Mavericks on their Western Digital external drives. Has anyone any futher info. Or is there a better way of backing up my computer. Thanks. Lee

How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
Try these in order:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
I recently loaded OSX mavericks on my Imac. I now find I cannot open any Adobe products from CS5. The error message reads " to open Adobe illustrator CS5.app, you need to install a JAva SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check and install one? I try to install but get the error" download error". As far as i know I'm using Adobe Java 7. None of my CS5 suite works anymore............and i really dont want to upgrade to a monthly cloud service fee as i hate this policy with a passion.
This goes for Dreamweaver CC on Mavericks!!!!! THANK YOU!
I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks! -
I need to get Win 7 32 bit running on 2009 iMac 24-in, on a Bootcamp partition. Problem is I'm running Mavericks on that machine, and from everything I've read, Bootcamp 5 doesn't support 32-bit anything. Is it possible to do so without downgrading MacOS to an earlier version? I will if I have to. Would it be possible/advisable to boot to 10.6.8 from a removable drive and create the Bootcamp partition on the internal (10.9.x) drive? Any other options that can get me running Windows faster? Under Parallels it's just too slow.
As a possible alternative, Is it possible to only load Win 7 to the machine without bootcamp? Could I simply partition the drive for Windows and install? It's not that I want to run Win 7 -- MacOS is a far better solution for me. But for my bookkeeper, who will use this system extensively, MacOS is a foreign landscape and her software is win-based. I don't want to pay her to learn Mac-ese. And I don't want to buy a PC!
Thoughts? -

Is 2009 imac 27 i7 compatible with maverick
I'm about to purchase a 2009 imac but don't want a massive outdated paperweight. Is this comp still able to be updated with the current Opp systems?
Yes it can run Mavericks, see > OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
However you may need to upgrade the RAM to 8GB + for optimum performance.

I have tried to use the PRAM reset, holding down Shift,Command, R, and P after turning off computer then when I turn it on, having those pressed until I see the apple symbol. I only hear one chime. How to restore an early 2009 iMac running Mavericks back to factory settings without discs
Today I got an early 2009 iMac from a family member, I would like to restore it back to its factory settings as if I was setting up a brand new computer. He does not have the discs that were originally with the iMac when he first purchased it. It is currently running on Mavericks OSX. Is it possible for me to restore this computer back to factory settings without the discs?
No. Phone Apple and order replacements, or if you don't need iLife, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store; the retail DVD can be used to create a bootable OS, but not to perform a true factory restore.
