Finder 'Requires Password' for every single file deletion...

Had to make a quick fix today with an Archive & Install...
One remaining annoyance is that Finder prompts for password for almost every single file (using the ommand + Delete method).
Any thoughts?

Hello v:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
If the keychain is the problem (I do not know from your post), the article below will amplify what to do to fix it.

  • Finder requires authorization for every single action

I'm afraid I have been messing up too much with access rights (to copy information from my iMac to my brand new MacBook Air).
On my iMac Finder now requires that I type an administrator name and pwd every time I move a file from a folder to another folder.
I have made sure that I have read / write permissions to the folders concerned. Actually I have made sure that my account has read/write access to the whole of my home directory (including all enclosed items).
Does anyone know how I can revert to a normal situation? Thanks.

Still sounds like permissions and/or ACLs in your Home folder are amiss...
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/15/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion/
    1. Restart Lion and hold down the Command and R keys.
    2. You will boot into the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the Menu Bar click the Utilities item then select Terminal.
    3. In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit Return.
    4. The Password reset utility launches, but you’re not going to reset the password. Instead, click on the icon for your Mac’s hard drive at the top. From the drop-down below it, select the user account where you are having issues.
    5. At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled ‘Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs’. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes a couple of minutes. When it’s done, quit the programs you’ve opened and restart your Mac. Notice that ‘Spotlight’ starts re-indexing immediately.

  • Adobe Reader Pro 9 requires password for every user after seciurity updates?

Everytime I installe any Adobe Reader Pro seciurity updates like 9.4.3 and 9.4.4 on our Macs 10.6.6 and 10.6.7,
I had to input admin password for every user as reader is stoppng on install updates screen,
We have some hotmacs that are shared so it's a bit of a pain. Users don't have admin acess
to be able to install software on them.
    How do I resolve this?
Here's what I tried. None of these things resolved the problem for me.
    Repair disk permissions.
    Restart the Mac.
    Repair Adobe installation

Hi Sorry, the product in qusitons is Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.4 and 9.3.4 updates.
If you launch Acrobat Pro as the admin user, then authorise when requested, does that fix the problem for all users?
Or does this happen every time, for each user?
It does prompt for password for every user, thefore my flustration we have multiple editors using a Hotmac.
And we have to enter the password at least one time for every user after stupid seciurity update.
Presumably, Acrobat is trying to write to a location that Standard users don't have permission for.
Standard users don't have admin access to Mac but still I find adobe behevior very annoying.
I think this is normal enterpirse practise.
What happens if you allow write access to the Acrobat application folder and subcontents? Make sure you know what you're doing and how to restore it.
Would try this but still I would expect adobe to fix it updates.
    Thanks,

  • Finder requires password deleting files

Hey guys, finder requires password when I try to delete my files. I have read some of the suggestions on how to fix this online. That includes
    1. Open up Terminal and type in 'sudo chown yourusernamehere .Trash' and the other one is
    2. Click on the Get Info on the hardrive and change the username to read and write
and apparently, none of these worked for me. I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrongly or what but yeaah, but problem is not fixed yet. Help!

    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/.Trash
    2. Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
    3. The dialog should show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. If that's not what it shows, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and enter your password when prompted. Use the plus- and minus-sign buttons to give yourself Read & Write access and "everyone" No Access. Delete any other entries in the access list.
    4. In the General section, uncheck the box marked Locked if it's checked.
    5. From the action menu (gear icon) at the bottom of the dialog, select Apply to enclosed items and confirm.
    6. Close the Info window and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • Iphone require me to local every single file.. why

Not sure is it something wrong with the database. I just re-installed leopard and I copy the entire iphone library from my backup.
When I opened the application it seems fine, all the thrumbnail and folder is there but when I click onto it. it said they cannot find the file and want me to local it.. and I have to do it for every single one..
I tried to delete the whole folder and import the file again but it said the volume cannot be found..
is there something wrong with my database ??

Well what's happened here is that you've referenced the file and the file's location has changed. When you reference a file then you take responsibility for file management, and one of the trickiest things to do is move libraries across volumes.
Using REFERENCED libraries you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about finding the files there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
As to getting our of your present predicament:
What version of iPhoto are you using? Your posting on the v5 forum, but you're on a MacBook and iirc the earliest version of iPhoto that came on a MacBook was v6. I ask as it makes a difference on the possible fixes.
    Regards
    TD

  • Since the last software update for mountain lion I am having a problem when moving screenshots to trash. Now a Finder box appears saying finder wants to make changes and I have to enter my password for every action.

Since the last software update for mountain lion, I am having a problem when trying to remove any screenshots to the trash. A box appears saying "Finder wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this"
I have checked Finder Preferences and cannot find any box that I can 'UNTICK' to resolve this. I sometimes take a lot of screenshots when I am researching something and now find I have to enter my password for every screenshot to be removed to trash.
Anyone got a solution please, Thanks

  • Workaround for iWeb publishing each & every single file ?

It's a real drag that iWeb publishes each and every single file to .mac every time I correct a comma somewhere. My site* is about 20 MBs, and I've been waiting for half an hour now to continue working with iWeb. But it's still uploading... uploading... uploading... Other servers are faster than .mac, but the problem is the same.
Has anyone found a workaround for this nuisance??? Some method to export & sync only altered files? (Or were iWeb authors as bright as to make it change all files, regardless if the user changed only a comma?)
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Peter
iWeb isnt actually uploading every page, unless you have made a change to that page, yes a comma will do it, also any changes to the navigation bar efffect all pages that the bar is on. WHat you see is iWeb going through and checking to see whether there are any changes, then if there are the page gets uploaded, if not it moves on to the next page.
I try to publish often so as not to slow things down, my site is well over 20MB and I normally only wait a few minues. This is something that I am prepared to do for the convenience of one click publishing. I am currently uploading a 2.5MB site via ftp to another server, and it still takes a while

  • Required to enter apple id password for every update in app store

I just updated my macbook pro to Mavericks. After the install and reboot, I went to install updates and it is requiring me to enter my apple id and password for every update.  This behavior is new.  Why is App Store.app reading the password from my keychain?

Oops.  Why is it not reading from the keychain.

  • Necessary to save every single file automatically in Multitrack Mode?

    Using Adobe Audition 3:
Remember in Adobe Audition 1 where if you right-clicked on a wave file inside multitrack view and deleted it, it was in fact deleted?  Why did they go backwards and make it so that every single file recorded was saved automatically?
I record 6 separate inputs at the same time in my sessions.  Then, I send the XML file along with all the waves to my engineer where he opens it up in Nuendo and masters it.  The problem is, this ridiculous feature of saving EVERYTHING makes it so I have to go through all the waves that were deleted from the session and delete them from the session folder manually.  This is an unnecessary time vampire.
Think about it, if I have a mix of takes I deleted, and takes I left in the session both in the same folder... I have to delete the files I don't want from the folder before zipping it up with the session file to send off to the engineer.  I have to sort through them, or else I am sending both deleted and desired session files to my engineer (unnecessary upload time with extra useless files).
So, is there a way to get Adobe Audition 3 to delete the files I delete from within multitrack mode so I do not have to delete them manually after sessions?  It really creates this whole other workload of sifting through files to assemble my folder to be master-ready.
I personally cannot fathom why a program would be altered to save everything considering the option to delete it is present, yet the files can only be deleted manually.

    SoundCow wrote:

Okay, background: They didn't go backwards at all - they went forwards in the way most people wanted. Previously, all files were written to a temp file, and only saved when you'd finished recording. This was an almightly PITA for several reasons, not the least of them being that a power failure at the wrong point meant that you lost everything. Also, it put very real limitations on what could happen when you stopped recording in a session - a restart couldn't happen until you'd saved the previous temp file.
So what happens now is direct-to-disk recording in Multitrack. Gets around all those problems completely.
But, if causes an 'opportunity' with takes. This problem with deleting unwanted ones has been around for a while, and is based on not trusting you to know exactly what you are doing! What it comes down to is that deleting takes has to be a deliberate action on your part, not a default option of deleting the previous one when you record over it, just in case you didn't realise that you really wanted it after all... And because they were already recorded as files, removing them from the multitrack display doesn't get them out of the Files pane, and doesn't get them off your drive either.
The only way around this that I'm aware of is to use MediaSweeper. Just make sure that you send Suite Spot a donation...

I am having similar problems with iPad 3 freezing.  It was fine before upgrade to IOS 8.  Ready to throw it out!!  No one has any answers other than the norm.  Quite often have to hold power and home key down, which doesn't solve the problem.  It just unfreezes the situation you are in.  Wish this would be solved with the IOS 8!!  Should have never upgraded, but never had a problem with Apple software before.  Getting to feel like I am back with Windows.

  • HT5243 how do I find my password for adobe and Java

how do I find my password for adobe and Java

"Java" doesn't have a password, unless you mean your admin password for installing software. That's whatever password you (or the person who set your computer up) used to set up your admin account. That's the same password that you use when you start up the computer if you get asked for one. You cannot retrieve this password if you've forgotten it, but you can reset it and make a new one. See this support article if that's the case:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14325
"Adobe" is a company and likewise doesn't have a password. However, if you have Adobe cloud-based software you may well have set up a password with them. Adobe also require an account and password for downloading certain products. You'll need to contact Adobe to retrieve any such password if you've lost it.

  • NAC Guest Server, How to change the password for a single user?

We have a NAC Guest Server which creates a complex password for all new users created.
We would like to have normal/simple password for a single user. How can I get this done on a NAC Guest Server.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You can setup 3 different flavours of passwords:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/guestserver/configuration_guide/20/g_guestpol.html#wp1063249.
    a. Username Policy 1 - Email address as username
Use the guest's email address as the username. If an overlapping account with the same email address exists, a random number is added to the end of the email address to make the username unique. Overlapping accounts are accounts that have the same email address and are valid for an overlapping period of time.
    b. Username Policy 2 - Create username based on first and last names
Create a username based on combining the first name and last name of the guest. You can set a Minimum username length for this username from 1 to 20 characters (default is 10). User names shorter than the minimum length are padded up to the minimum specified length with a random number.
    c. Username Policy 3 - Create random username
Create a username based upon a random mixture of Alphabetic, Numeric or Other characters. Type the characters to include to generate the random characters and the number to use from each set of characters.
Note: The total length of the username is determined by the total number of characters included.

  • Help to find a password for an old apple id.

We have changed ISPs and have changed our Apple ID's.  I need to find a password for the old Apple
ID that is in icloud so that I can delete that ID in the iphone and input the new one. I have tried all the passwords that I can find and none have let me log in.. When I input the birthdate it says that it does not match? I can not receive an email from the old ISP (comcast) as that account is not active. Is there a work around?

Unfortunately, the only option you have is the reset process via https://appleid.apple.com

  • How do i force itunes to prompt me for my password for every purchase, even if it is consecutive?

Just discovered that my 5 year old got in my iPad right after i had bought 'bad piggies' and bought a couple princess ebook 'apps' for close to $12 because it used the login info that i had provided 5 minutes before.  Is there a way to disable that and force me to enter my password for EVERY purchase?

By default, the App Store will request your Apple ID password once, and then for the next 15 minutes (or so, I beleive), it will not require it again.  If you want to change that behavior, enable restrictions (making sure to memorize the passcode you create), and change the default to 'Immediately'.
