Finder's windows

Hi everybody,
I'm testing Leopard on one partition and so far it behaves well.
I know that many things will be fixed/restored with the upcoming 10.5.2.
One thing I'm missing is the possibility to have Finder's windows without the Sidebar but still with the Topbar. Does anybody knows some workaround?
Also I was able to keep the Pathbar at the bottom of any windows even when not in search mode, but I can't remember how I did it. Again does anybody knows that?

Can't help with the no-sidebar thing but to display the path bar at the bottom of windows, use Finder's View menu to select the "Show Path Bar" item when any regular (non-search) Finder window is frontmost.

HP DV6 Laptop - How do I find my Windows 7 Product Key

I purchased a new hard drive for my laptop. I want to install a clean version of Windows 7 on this hard drive. The Windows product key sticker is badly worn on the bottom of my laptop and I can only make out a little more than half the characters on it. Where can I find the Windows 7 product key? I tried to use an app to find it but it only finds a generic key since it was an OEM install. Can you please tell me how I can find my product key? I want to do a clean install of Windows 7 on my new hard drive so I don't want to install it from any kind of recovery disk. Thanks in advance for your help.

Lion Finder "Find" command window, cannot resize columns

If I use the Finder's "Find.." command under the File menu, a window appears that allows me to enter my serach criteria.
However when I do so and a list of entries is presented, there appears to be no way to resize the columns!
Als, unlike a normal Finder window, it does not present you with column headings that you can sort on (yes, you can still access this level of control by going to "Show View Options".
Try it. I know that a normal Finder window allows you to do this, but not a "Find" window.
I have no idea why they use a different design style for the "Find" results window. The standard Finder list view window at least has the proper controls on it (ability to resize, ability to slect which column to sort upon, ability to slect sort order up or down, etc.)
Any ideas as to how to fix these problems?

You'll need to select View>Arrange By>None to get the ability to adjust columne width.
You can also get at it by clicking the little gear icon in the tool bar.

Find & Replace window missing in Toolkit CS5

Hello--
I just started using Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS5 after installing Photoshop CS5, and ran into a strange problem: the Find & Replace menu option and key command do not function correctly, in that I cannot access Find at all. The Find / Find Results window does not appear, and I cannot get the window to appear by selecting the option in the Windows tool menu either. This works just fine in Toolkit CS4, and is very frustrating to deal with as I am trying to update my scripts to CS5, but have to do so in the CS4 Toolkit because I can't use the Find functionality.
I've already searched the forums and google high and low for this problem, but no else seems to have posted about it. I've already tried restarting and uninstalling / installing CS5 and all related tools. Can anyone help?

Thanks! Looking in the preferences led me to the answer to the problem: I opened up the XML file and found that findAndReplace was put in an odd TabPane for some reason:
        <TabGroup5>
          <activeChild>findAndReplace</activeChild>
          <parentName>Tabpane13</parentName>
          <visible>false</visible>
        </TabGroup5>
I changed the parentName to Tabpane0 and the window appears now. Much obliged!

Acrobat Plug In...Could not find external window handler

When I try to open a pdf file with Adobe Acrobat, my computer gives me a prompt, Acrobat Plug In...Could not find external window handler...
The problem just started recently. I am running Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and the ME version of Windows. The Microsoft help desk told me this was an Adobe problem.
Can anyone give me some advise?

How do I get rid of icons around Finder's window?

How do I get rid of icons (mere document shortcuts) around Finder's window (in the frame, the grey area). They were not there in the first place, just got there somehow. For example on the left side I have: documents, desktop, applications, movies (there are all good).... and a silly pdf document that shouldn't be there. I can't move it or bin it, it just stays there...
There are also more such icons (shortcuts to documents) across the top of that window: amongst the "View", "Action", "Dropbox" icons (which are all good), there are also shortcuts to pdf documents or folders of documents which were never meant to end up there... How can I clean this up?

Error when trying to install the iSCSI target - Cannot find the Windows PowerShell data file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1'

Hi,
I'm just attempting to setup an iSCSI target on a freshly installed Windows 2012r2 box, but I get the following error when attempting to Create and iSCSI virtual disk via the wizard after a successful
installation of the iSCSI target role.
The full error is:
Cannot find the Windows PowerShell data file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1' in directory 'C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\IscsiTarget\en-GB\', or in any parent culture.
I tried to uninstall, then reinstall the role but no go.
The Server Locale and UI was all updated to en-GB but this folder does not appear to exist in this location. Rather, the folder I can see is:
'C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\IscsiTarget\en-US\'
I'm going to attempt to copy the 'en-US' folder to 'en-GB' to see what happens, but I would like to know why this has occurred in the first place? Other roles have installed (such as AD DS AD CS and
IIS) on other machines with no issue.

Hi Chris,
The error "Cannot find the Windows PowerShell data file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1'" occured, because the file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1' can't be loaded under the folder en-GB with current culture.
I recommend you can copy this .psd1 file under 'C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\IscsiTarget'. Essentially if PowerShell can’t find the specified data file for the current culture it will “fallback” to the top-level data
file in this case.

Find/Change window freezes - Appleworks 6.2.9

When I use the Appleworks Find/Change window for the first time after booting up my new iMac, the Find/Change window freezes up and then disappears and then the opened document on my desktop disappears from my desktop, too. I have Appleworks 6.2.9 and a new iMac purchased a few months ago. Why does the Find/Change window freeze up and do that? How do I fix this? Thanks for any help!

The most likely cause is corrupt preferences & is easily fixed by deleting the AppleWorks preferences.

Find Change window too large and I cannot make it smaller

In Indesign CC the find/change window is continually resizing. This happens when I place a larger block of text into the find or replace field. After a few such changes I end up with a window as wide as my screen. I am able to get rid of it by restarting Indesign and resetting the preferences at restart. This is not a solution. How can this window be reduced in size or better yet set to remain at a fixed size.
I am operating on a Mac with system: 10.10.2

CS3: Find Font window on open, no missing fonts.

Is there a way to tell Illustrator not to show the Find Font window when tere are no missing fonts? It's only a whole lot frustrating and annoying.
I'm sure the fonts are activated in Suitcase Fusion (only just slightly less crappy a an option than no font manager at all). Even if they're not and are auto-activated, the problem occurs with three nearly identical files. If fonts were activated opening the first file, then the next two should be fine. If I then close the files then reopen I get the Find Font window again, so auto-activation has nothing to do with it.

My solution has always been to hit cancel and just re-open the file(s) I think Illy looks, sees missing fonts, kicks up the warning, then talks to your font manager, so that the warning will come up even though the font manager is working on it...
Is there a setting in Suitcase that keeps fonts open through a whole session (like until you quit suitcase) rather than closing them when you close the file (as it sounds like is happening for you) I haven't used suitcase since X1 or the one before that, but I seem to remember that closing the offending file and reopening it would work...
edit: on re-reading your post, is there the possibility of conflicting fonts, as in ps and tt versions of the same font? One may be activated, but it may be looking for the other.

How remove extraneous entries in Finder file window?

My Finder file window has three extraneous entries - one for an application I accidentally dropped outside the application lined, and two for CD burns that I completed some time ago. I have tried unsuccessfully to drag them to Trash. I also have explored Prererences unsuccessfully looking for some way to solve this problem. Anybody have an idea how to fix this?

If these are in the Sidebar in a Finder window, hold down the Command key while dragging them out of the Sidebar. When you release the mouse, they'll poof-disappear.

If you bought a notebook with Windows 8, there are no product key stickers anymore.
The key is now digitally encoded in the BIOS.

I don't have a notebook that came with windows 8, so I don't know if you can see it in the BIOS or not but that would the place to look.

Find/replace window in Mac OS - how to attach to main document window?

At work I use Windows and the find/replace window is part of the main document window. At home, I use Mac OS and the find/replace window is a separate floating window which is annoying because it means I'm constantly dragging it out of my way...is there a way to attach it to the the main document window on Mac ?

It works! Thank you. The strange thing is, I already had a check mark on it, but I unchecked it and then rechecked it and it worked.
BTW, I've not visited this forum for quite a while. It was difficult to find my way to the InDesign Discussions. There's so much stuff in between logging on to Adobe Forums and getting to this location. I consider the changes a huge step backward. I realize that you're probably not involved in it, but I hope someone who is sees this feedback about the forum layout. Fortunately, it's only a one-time problem. In my finder border window there is a jpeg file embedded that I cannot remove, everytime I try to drag it out it opens, how do I remove it?

If you are talking about the toolbar along the top (where there may be other items such as search and view settings), you can command-drag to remove it.
