Finder Screen sharing Unavailiable

I have a Mac mini and right now I'm on a Macbook. When I go into Finder, I CAN see the Shared menu, that's not my problem, but what is unavailable is the option to Share Screen. While on the Macbook, I can see the option to Share Screen with my Mac mini, but when I put in my name and password, it says "Authentication Failed to Joe's Mac" I don't know how to fix it.

You must both enable Screen Sharing on the Mac whose screen you want to see and allow access to the feature by users on other Macs. You can opt to allow any user or just selected ones this access.
In Leopard, this is set up in the "Sharing" System Preference: click on the "Screen Sharing" service in the list at the left & configure it as you wish. Don't forget to enable the service by ticking the checkbox next to its name. You can also share the screen of a Mac running Tiger -- the only real difference is the configuration is done in the "Remote Access" service.

  • Issue with finder screen sharing.

My iOS development partner and I are currently having issues with screen sharing through the finder.  Prior to installing OSX Mavericks there was no issue with adding each other as users to each others computer, but after the install is when the problem started happening.  At the root level there are multiple users on each other's computers with our corresponding names but they don't appear in Users and Groups.  So, having phantom users on each other's computers, we took them into the Genius Bar at our local apple store.  They tried a few different methods, none of which worked, and had us reinstall the operating system and now we're back at square one having to resort to using the "permission" screen share as opposed to just being able to screen share directly though user accounts that we previously set in system preferences. I used the following console command, but it doesn't show the same accounts in the Users and Groups under System Preferences.: (dscl . list /Users | grep -v "^_") Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Currently running Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42) on both machines.

  • Can't find Screen Sharing application!

I have looked everywhere but it is not there anymore!
Can I download it again or has Apple hidden it?
    Please help

There are certain directories not searched by Spotlight, I suspect as a safety feature to lessen the chances of accidentally deleting something important (like Screen Sharing app).
While the Screen Sharing app is in the dock can you select "Keep in Dock" from its contextual menu?
    I didn't check.
It may be that that option is not available as one needs to select a particular server rather than simply launching the Screen Sharing app by itself.

  • Where can I find Screen Sharing Log file or VNC Log file?

I would like to view who has connected to my machine and when but if I am not wrong there is not such kind of logs. AppleCare says there is 3rd Party Tools to extract this information, is this possible?
    Thanks in advance!

    My last effort
    turn on process accounting:
    "mkdir /var/account"
    "touch /var/account/acct"
    "accton /var/account/acct" or reboot
    "chmod o-rx /usr/bin/lastcomm"
    "chmod -R o-rx /var/account"
Everything has to be run in sudo. If you do the above, then run sudo lastcomm and check what that says.

  • Screening Sharing under 10.8

I'm trying to get screen sharing to work between a 2011 MBP and a 2011 Mac Mini. When the Mini is plugged into a monitor I can get the MBP to connect to it, but if I disconnect the monitor the MBP can't connect to it. In both cases I'm still able to browse the file system in the finder.

Screen sharing suddenly stopped for everyone on Aug 2nd. Another user posted the fix, which is a bizarre one, but try this:
    Go to System Prefs>MobileMe
Click "Sign Out" (you're probably perma-signed-in)
Bingo, your screen sharing should work again.

  • Screen Sharing; NOT via iChat

    I have a G5 non-Intel iMac and a MacBook, both running 10.5.1.
I cannot screen share between these computers unless I click the radio button for Allow all incoming connections under Firewall in the Security Preference Pane, i.e., shutting off my Mac firewall. With the firewall off, all is just hunky-dory.
With the radio button for Allow only essential services pushed and Screen Sharing and Printer Sharing showing in the window below as being activated, however, I cannot screen share.
Under Sharing in Preferences, I have Screen Sharing checked and the radio button set for Allow Access for All Users.
Shouldn't I be able to Screen Share with the Allow only essential services pushed and Screen Sharing activated in the Sharing preference pane?
Can anyone screen share that way or must you totally shut off the firewall each time???
    Many thanks,
    Bob

    Thanks for responding, Topher.
I knew in Tiger how to open/close ports, in the Sharing pane, but that is missing in Leopard. Or have I missed something???
Also, if you use the + button in the firewall, you have to navigate to Screen Sharing in order to add it. I don't think that is possible is it? Where would you navigate to in order to add it. I could find Screen Sharing only as a box to be checked under the Sharing pane in Prefs.
    Many thanks for the help,
    Bob

  • Screen sharing yosemite

I was able to use screen sharing successfully under Mavericks over the internet to my Sons iMac, I have an rMBP.
I have now upgraded both machines to Yosemite and although I can connect on the network locally to the iMac I am unable to do so from home over the internet.
Both machines are setup correctly but neither Finder (connect as) or Finder Screen Sharing works, any idea?

For those still following this feed, this turned out (for me) to be a simple solution after reading all the feeds, suggestions, fixes, Apple bulletins, etc.  System Preferences>Security>Firewall Options>"allow" or "block" incoming connections.  There are two related to Screen Sharing - the obvious "Screen Sharing" (pic #1 below) and a less obvious (pic #2 below) "screensharingd".  Both have to be ticked "allow."  I've been networking with two MBPr and my desktop iMac.   Screen sharing worked in all directions between all machines except from the MBPr's to the desktop.  This solved the problem.
    Scroll down . . .
Simple . . . wished I'd figured this out long ago.  Hope it works for you as well.

  • Wireless Screen Sharing between MBP's on formation aircraft?

Is it possible to wireless screen share between two MBP's without internet or hardwiring available? The application will be between two airplanes flying side by side in formation about 30 feet apart. -Eddie

Screen Sharing does not require the internet at all. I screen share via finder ss via wifi G all of the time between leopard MBA and MBP on a G based network or a N based ad hoc network.
Simply use wifi and create an ad hoc wifi network between the two MBPs from the airport menu in the menu bar as in Create Network. For your purposes, use the simplest open network or a five letter password.
For the screen sharing, go to the screen sharing article at <http://www.macworld.com/article/131094/2007/12/screensharepower.html?t=201> or at the Tidbits site (same article, same author) and set up the screen sharing in the finder.. not ichat. Finder screen sharing is simple and does require a wifi connection between the computers but does not require an internet connection at all.

  • Screen Sharing and finder

Just bought an Apple Time Capsule a fortnight ago.
Previously I was able to see local computers and conduct screen sharing through finder with no problems with my old wireless setup.
Having problems do so now. I have reinstalled 10.5.6 on my main mac but all the details and shares are standard and setup on the other.
I am able to screen sharing if I do it by ip but it is a mess around and not as easy as before.
Am I missing a setup item/process in Time Capsule?
    Cheers.

    Hi amthflea
I have a very similar setup.
I VNC to my other computers using JollyFast VNC (free and open software) - very very very fast and a lot better than the built in one. Very easy to use. You need to input the ip once, that's it, then it saves an easy list of your computers.
    http://www.jinx.de/JollysFastVNC.html
I don't know about the sharing though. The devices i VNC to Are PPC-models and it pops up fine in finder.
    In sharing
    Personal File Sharing
Apple Remote Desktop and Printer Sharing are enabled.

  • Why can't I connect to my Mac Mini via Finder (but I CAN via screen sharing)?

My problem concerns a quad-core 2.0 GHz Mac Mini Server (mid 2011, I think) with SSD and 3 external hard drives. It's (a) my desktop workstation (b) our Time Machine backup repository (c) iTunes server and (d) Printopia server for our iDevices. That's it. The only thing I use the server app for, really, is Time Machine.
So recently we lost power a couple of times. As always, I ran Disk Utility, repaired permissions and verified the main disk. All appeared well.
But all is assuredly not well. Now, none of my other Macs can (a) find the Time Machine backup volume or (b) connect to the server at all. Whenever I try either thing, I receive the message below:
The network is in flawless shape otherwise. My router is the latest generation Airport Extreme Base Station. The server has a static IP, and I CAN connect to it from my other Macs by clicking Finder, then Go, then entering the IP address -- but ONLY if I use an smb:// prefix!
Moreover, even when I'm connected in this way, I STILL get the message whenever I try to connect by merely clicking the name on the finder sidebar -- or whenever I try to access the machine using Time Machine preferences. Weirder still, I CANNOT connect to the ip address via afp.
Final piece of weirdness: I can also connect to this machine from any other Mac via screen sharing. So please....
WHAT'S MY PROBLEM AND HOW CAN I FIX IT? I've wracked my brains, combed through forums and can find nobody else with this problem, let alone a solution. The problem persists when I shut down the server app.
I'm assuming that either something is corrupted or some setting is afoul, but can't figure out what it might me,
I'm just about at the point of reformatting my main drive and reinstalling Mountain Lion, but am hoping someone can spare me that pain.
    THANK YOU so much!
    Arthur P. Johnson
P.S. I have no problem at all with outbound connections from this bewitched Mini. Just inbound.
P.P.S I will, of course, be happy to provide shots of any other settings you may desire,

For some reason, the error box photo didn't appear in my post. Here it is:

  • Weird Screen Sharing problem/Finder

When using my MacBook Pro's Screen Sharing to view my Mac Mini, every Finder window shows as blank white in Icon View, but the files/folders show fine using List View, etc.
Both on OS X 10.9.1, both 2013 model computers.
    Any ideas?

Using screen sharing at transcontinental distances is commonplace; there's no "other networks" setting here.
There's the IP network and firewall and ISP network configuration, and whether that (in aggregate) allows connections from elsewhere can connect to reach port 5900 (TCP) or whatever you're using.
And whether screen sharing is enabled on-LAN; via System Preferences on Client or via Server Admin on Mac OS X Server and punched through the applicable host-local and upstream firewalls, of course.
As for what IPsecuritas might be blocking or might be routing, you need ensure that passes port 5900 (TCP).

  • Screen Sharing display of Finder app lags & black patches

I'm trying to share the screen of a headless Mac Mini with a Retina MBP over ethernet (via thunderbolt display and time capsule) using the built in screen sharing app, and my fourth generation iPad over wifi using a VNC app. My problems are as follows:
    - intermittent black patches over the screen which I have drag a window over, or move a mouse over, to make disappear. This only happens on the Retina MBP, and doesn't happen on the iPad. This is considered solved in another thread, but the solution was to update Apple Remote Desktop which I do not have installed.
    - On both Retina MBP and iPad, the outputted display does not update when I make a change in the Finder application. E.g. say I create a new folder. I will not see the folder I have created until I drag the window elsewhere.
This problem is the same regardless of the display quality (full or adaptive), or the resolution.
    I appreciate any help.

  • Back to my Mac screen sharing not visible in Finder

I have a MacMini at home which I leave turned on for various reasons.  One of them is so that I can access it from work with screen sharing. But I cannot see my MacMini from my Macbook Pro at work.
All of my computers have iCloud Back to my Mac enabled as well as screen sharing.  Locally (on the same network) I can see all of my computers but but I don't see it over the internet when I am at work.
    Anybody have any ideas?
All computers running OS X 10.10 or 10.10.1.

It's possible that your work network is blocking some of the ports necessary for B2MM to work.
Have you ever tried accessing the Mac mini from a different network outside of your home? If this works, then it's probably specific to your firewall/network settings at work.

  • Can I display EyeTV's live TV over HDMI-out and be able to see my desktop using screen-sharing on a headless mac-mini used as a media-box?

    Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a new mac-mini to replace my current one which acts as an iTunes server and records TV programs using eyeTV. I connect using screen-sharing/VNC to be able to do stuff on it (like handbrake etc.)
I have eyeTV with a satelite receiver and I want to change the setup so that:
    - the new mac-mini continues to work as an iTunes server (and handbrake workhorse)
    - I can use the HDMI output (inc. audio) to show eyeTV's live TV full-screen app
    - I can connect using screen-sharing/VNC to the mac-mini and see my normal desktop to be able to maintain it etc. but this is a headless display (no screen is connected to the display-port).
    - recorded media I'd play through the appleTV2 still + rentals etc. unless anyone knows if eyeTV software can offer up iTunes content? I don't like the eyeTV recordings in general as it seems very slow to me for access when there are lots of recordings and wouldn't be available in other apleTVs in the house AFAIK.
The main benefit that this gives me is that I'd no longer need a seperate satelite box to watch live TV and can add more eyeTV hardware to get additional TV channels all through the same HUD on the TV for ease of access.
Does this seem possible in theory & practice (ie are there any gotcha's to consider?)
    - can I force the HDMI output resolution to 1080i as I go via an amp to the TV and the appleTV2 drops to low-res in this configuration so I have had to find a workaround for that.
    - does the mac-mini have IR input that can be programmed?
    - Does eyeTV software remain stable for long periods?
    - Does the HDMI out have any handshake issues that would need a reset of the display (somehow)?
thanks in advance for any thoughts/contributions
    Lee

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.
