Finder - Set file icon as plain text

I would like to know if there is a way to set files of a certain extention (in this case, .tex files) to be displayed as text files in finder. And no, I'm not talking about Quick Look, because when I press the space bar, the file does come up as a textfile would, i.e. Quick Look displays it as a text file. I'm talking about the icon that finder uses to display the file. Right now, Finder uses the icon of the default program used to open the file (TeXMaker). I would like it to display the .tex file just like a .txt file, i.e. the icon is "a sheet of paper with text on it".
I hope you can help me.

At first, when I used an other program for editing .tex files (TexShop), the .tex files were displayed as text files. They changed, however, when I installed TeXmaker and set it as the default program.

    Does mac have an app that graphically finds & highlights file icons (especially on the desktop)?
    This used to be available as a 3rd party app on older systems but I haven't seen it currently.
    Sherlock just finds locations as a listing.

    The easiest way is to use iPhoto, just drag the picture in to it. To resize it select the picture and in the menu bar "FILE - EXPORT". You can preform basic editing and corrections by double clicking on the picture.

  • Autosave file is in Plain Text, can't open

    I have my autosave folder on another computer at another location so I had my friend email me the autosave folder, only now I can't open them because they came over as plain text files. Is there a way to change them to fCP project files so I can open them in FCP?

    I just tried emailing a working autosave file to myself from MAIL and it worked fine, came through as final cut pro project file, but then I tried it again through safari and if came through as Plain Text. The guy at the other end told me he sent it from MAIL though, unless he was confused. Is there some setting in mail that would need to be changed to not convert the autosave file to plain text.

  • .ics file opened as plain text

    Hi,
    I create a hyperlink to an .ics file on my webpage. But it always show the plain text in the browser instead of download the file. Could anyone help?

    Hi,
    You can try to configure .ics file types as '''application/octet-stream'''.

  • Encrypt file without the plain text extension

    hi
    I am encrypting a txt file using GnuPG. The command that i am using encrypts the file and puts .gpg extension to the plain text extension. For example if my plain text file is test.txt after encryption the file name becomes test.txt.gpg. My requirement is that the encrypted file should not have the plaintext extension. So the encrypted should be test.gpg instead of test.txt.gpg? Is this possible? If yes, please give me some ideas
    Thanks in advance

    Unless I am much mistaken, the gpg command has nothing to do with Java programming whatsoever. Your question is 100% off topic. Locking the thread.

  • Setting File Icons for OS

    Hi
    How could we make the OS to assign icons which we want for the files.
    For example i want all the *.xyz files to have a specific Icon

    Jods

    This is a very non-Java related question...
    That being said; if you're running any Windows OS's, open the explorer (not Internet Exploder) and open the menu Tools -> Folder Options.
    Select the tab File Types. You'll se a list of files and their associated programs. Either modify the one you'd like to change the icons for, or create your own.

  • PI removing blank spaces at the end of the lines in a plain text file

    Hi -
    I have an interface that transfers a file via FTP. I defined both the sender and receiver to transfer either Text or Binary but the interface removes every blank space I have after the last character. The file is a fixed lenght file.
    Example:
    Original file:
    Hello world(space)(space)(space)(space)(space)(space)(space)(space)(eol)
    where (space) is the space character and (eol) is the end of line char.
    File after it is received.
    Hello world(eol)
    I already defined the parameter Row.fieldFixedLenghts with 10164 which is the lenght of the lines of the file.
    Any ideas why it may be happening?
    Thanks,
    Carlos.

    Hi -
    I tried both the parameters:
    xml.fieldContentFormatting
    structure.fieldContentFormatting
    The received file still has the problem. All the blank spaces are cleared out.
    The file is a plain text file not an XML file. May this be the issue?
    Thanks,
    Carlos.

  • Which encoding uses XI internally for plain text files

    Hi,
    I want to read in (via file adapter) some plain texts of different character encoding and map them via a Java mapping file.
    My question is now, which encoding does the internally XI bytestream have?
    Does the XI file adapter convert it to UTF-8 or keeps it the encoding which is configured in the file adapter?
    Is there a way to retrieve the correct encoding within my Java mapping?
    Kind regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
    When you declare the file as "text" and apply the correct encoding, then the file adapter converts the file to UTF-8.
    When you declare the file as "binary", then the file adapter leaves the file as is, but in this case you have no information about the code page in Java Mapping.

  • Quick Look of Plain Text Got Messed Up

    Hi,
    As a web designer, I often work with text files and I use Quick Look a lot to view my files quickly without opening any application.
    Normally all plain text files such as .txt .html .css .php .srt etc. are shown in a monospace typeface in front of a white background. Other formatted text files such as .rtf are shown in the font as formatted (duh).
    Recently the Quick Look of my plain text file are shown in a Serif typeface on a yellowish background. This is annoying since I really like to have my plain text files shown in "plain text". The formatted text files are shown correctly, however.
    I have a suspicion that this is cause by Writer Pro app because I installed it recently. And the font and background in Quick Look seems just like those in Writer Pro.
    I've checked in /System/Library/QuickLook and nothing is suspicious and the modified time of the folder is long time ago before the issue occured. The /Library/QuickLook is fine as well, only iBooksAuthor.qlgenerator and iWork.qlgenerator are there.
    Question:
    How to set this back to default?
    How to tweak the style of Quick Look if it is tweakable?
    Thanks for your time and attention.

    I was not able to find any "report a problem" on the order status page.
    I did wander about the Apple website and I finally found a form where I could report a problem with a print product. Apple could not have done a better job hiding the ability to report that something didn't go correctly.
    I filled out the form and submitted it. Apple simply spat back some gibberish about security and encryption and suggested I upgrade to a newer browser. I'm using Internet Explorer 11, for crying out loud. I tried to back out to recover what I had written but it was lost.
    Apple is really slipping now. This is three unpleasent experiences in a row - a bad order, awful chat support (from two different people - although I'm not convinced they were real people), and now a difficult to navigate and, in the end, buggy website for reporting problems. This is not good enough. I spent $345 on three books and am so far not very satisfied.

  • DECODING MAIL FROM WEB SERVER IN PLAIN TEXT FORMAT(THE MAIL BEING SENT BY LABVIEW APPLICATION)

    Hi All
    I have a labview application that send mail every hour automatically.
    But actually the mail has to be decoded from the web server(by another application).But now when that application decode the data in the mail(that is send by labview application)its getting some funny characters inside that can not be detected by the decoding application
    (When open the mail no problem.)But actually our goal is to decode the mail from the web server.
    Why the extra characters are appearing when decoding from the server?Is it because of the HTML format?
    Is there option to send the mail in plain text format(not like attachment)?
    In outlook we can change the setting (tools->options->send->mail sending format->....here we can set as HTML format/Plain Text format)
    Like that at the sending time can i chenge the sending option as plain text format in my labview application?
    Thanks...

    smercurio_fc wrote:
    Then it sounds to me like this other application is not decoding the attachment correctly, especially if you looked at the attachment yourself after you received it and verified it's correct.
    No, no, smercurio. This is charcter encoding here. In older versions of LabVIEW you could specify what character encoding to use when sending an email through the SMTP VIs. But that gave problems since people in certain locales used certain characters that where not transfered right when the wrong encoding was specified, and that encoding stuff is not understood by most people at all, so the wrong selected encoding was rather the rule than the exception. In newer versions of LabVIEW do the SMTP VIs handle the encoding automatically based on the currently used locale on the system.
    This change is documented in the Upgrade Notes of LabVIEW and probably happened around LabVIEW 7.1 or 8.0.
    A decent mail client will recognize the encoding and convert it back to whatever is necessary before presenting it to the user. The OPs posters server application obviously isn't a smart mail client but probably just some crude text file parser that has no notion of proper mail character encoding and how to deal with it.
    I would suppose that there is a chance to dig into the SMTP VIs itself and try to manipulate or disable that encoding altogether in there but that may open a whole can of worms somewhere else. The proper way would be to process the incoming mail by a character encoding aware mail client before passing it to the text parser. On Unix setting up something like this would be fairly trivial.

  • Generating html links from plain text

    How can I scan a text (a String) and add links when a word is an URL?
    I tried the following which works but it's too slow:
      String text = rs.getString("text");
                    text2scan=text.split("[\n ]")
                    for(int i = 0; i < text2scan.length; i++){
                        String replacement = null;
                        String word = text2scan;
    log.info(word);
    if(word.indexOf(".com")!=-1){
    replacement="<a href=\""+word+"\">"+word+"</a>";
    text=text.replaceAll(word, replacement);
    text=text.replaceAll("www","http://www");
    text=text.replaceAll("http://http://","http://");
    text=text.replaceAll(">http://",">");
    Isn't this already implemented somewhere?
    Thanks

  • Putting both xml document and plain text in to the same container

    I have some configuration files written in plain text with the format 'key' = 'value'
    I want to put them into the same container with my xml document, is this possible?
    thanks

    Hi,
    yes it is. There are a couple of ways:
    1) Wrap into some XML tags and put your settings as an XML document (bad way)
    2) Use metadata of documents. You can store your plain text as metadata associated with some XML document. Also you can store a document only with metadata (i.e. with empty XML content).

  • Retrain OCR in LabVIEW (retrieve indexes of found characters within the character set file)

    Dear all,
    I am trying to retrain my OCR set file in LabVIEW. Basically I show the read string to the user and in case something is wrong the respective character must be corrected in the charatcer set file, according to the text entered by the user. It sounds quite straightforward, but I haven´t manage to figure out how to retrieve the character index in the file has to be retrained. For that I would need know which character in the set file was found to resemble a give read character. Do you know how can I retrieve this info? I intent to use the OCR Rename Character VI.
    Best regards,
    Esteban
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Arroyo,
    you can retrieve the total number of trained characters by using the IMAQ OCR Property VI and looking for the property "Size of char set".

  • How to conver HTML text to plain text?

    If I am lucky, I hope to get some real good answers. Basically, I have an HTML file saved on my hard drive, and I want to convert that HTML file to a plain text file.
    I tried implementing something myself. My algorithm was to simply match "<" and ">" and get rid of anything in between. It's working fine, but it's not fully cooked. It doesn't get rid of some weird characters like &XXXX, which is supposed to be some sort of a code for HTML. Also, it doesn't remove JavaScript codes or anything that's not contained in <BODY>...</BODY>. I sure can improve my program, but I am also hoping to see a faster and more efficient way to deal with that.
    I browsed thru some old topics, but nothing was satisfactory. Someone suggested the use of JEditorPane:
    int len = pane.getDocument().getLength();
    try {
    String text = pane.getDocument().getText(0,len);
    System.out.println(text);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.exit(0);
    But the problem with that is how a JEditorPane object should be instantiated. I could do something like this JEditorPane pane = new JeditorPane (URL url) or JEditorPane pane = new JeditorPane (String url). Either way, the program takes time to download the HTML page from the corresponding url. If one tries to detect int len, one can see that int len is likely to be zero, because the HTML page cannot be fully loaded in time. I guess I could try to deal with that problem by creating threads and stuffs. But I hope that there are some better solutions to end this misery once and for all.

  • Plain text files appeared from nowhere in my finder window

    I have a whole bunch of plain text files that have appeared in my finder window when searching in my user profile at the stage where I can view documents, desktop, music etc [sorry not sure what this is called and wanted to make obvious what I'm talking about].
    Can anyone help. I have no idea what these files are, but they look empty.
    Have I hit a view hidden files button somewhere that I can't find again? Can I just delete them all?
    Thanks for the help, this forum has been very useful for a number of things!
    Nick

    Hi nick,
    You have navigated to your home folder. (/Drive/Users/shortname/)
    Some programs will automatically save files there. You can delete them if you want but that may destroy settings in the app that put them there. How long was it since you last viewed the visible files in your home directory? Have you installed any new programs since then? What are the names of the files and can you infer from them where they came from? You can always try moving the files to another folder (without deleting them) and then see if you are suddenly missing any settings in a new app or if they are replaced. Might help you figure out who is putting them there.
    Hope that helps.
    edit: There is no view hidden files button unless you installed a program which specifically makes them viewable, or were playing around in terminal I suppose.
