FINDER - Sidebar Font Size

FINDER - Sidebar Font Size
I'm using Mac OS X v10.5.8 & have been trying to find a way to I increase the font size in the sidebar of FINDER.
Has this actually been fixed or is there a 3rd party app that will allow me to do this much like in mail! but for FINDER!
I've noticed this has been asked many times but never officially answered.
thank you in Advance.

While those font sizes appear to be fixed, and perhaps there is a way to get into
the system via Terminal or some other super-user access, an easy utility to do so
does not appear to be readily available. If one is available, this feature is under
advertised or a sub-note hidden within.
I'd just been looking into 'Path Finder' by Cocatech, I did not see a reference to
this Sidebar Font size issue; yet did read into their Forums page to note a post
there asking about this situation. Since Path Finder is a retail product and adds
a new user Finder with extra capabilities (30 day demo) license is about $40.
No mention about their adding this; however many other controls are added.
(A Leopard 10.5 & Snow Leopard 10.6 version, plus older v. Tiger 10.4 appear.)
While their screen casts of features were a bit interesting to watch (in QT .mov)
http://cocoatech.com/screencasts - the specific ability to resize Finder sidebar is
not mentioned; although their custom Path Finder application has more controls.
Note they say their app can 'replace Finder' - so maybe they will offer their own fix.
So, this probably isn't a direct answer to the pending question or a fix.
Since I haven't had much time or access to Snow Leopard, I've no idea
if the newer system version has a control to adjust Finder's Sidebar Font.
I rarely use the Finder window within the desktop 'finder' and have avoided it;
that isn't something I'd found useful, though something similar has existed in
many Mac OS systems in some form, guise, or other applicable function.
In fact the wider busy finder/folder windows are more distracting than ever
starting in Leopard 10.5; so, that's more wasted screen space to try to ignore.
{Sure, I can say that while realizing the other kinds of access this may provide
the seasoned user who is already used to tiny words & extra feature functions.}
Not sure if tweaks in tools such as Titanium Software - OnyX may offer any
type of interface customization in this area. This can change a few things,
I've used this application since it was first available, in earlier v. OS X 10.x
while not being all that interested in making a mess of what has worked well.
Perhaps someone with command line or Terminal experience has already
blazed a trail into this jungle, and left some great bread crumbs to follow.
Maybe a nice Script has come from surveying & marking the path...?

  • Changing menu, sidebar font size

can anyone tell me how to change the font size of the menu bars and sidebars? i just can't find it anywhere?

Your answer is an honest one.
People have been submitting suggestions to Apple over this issue for several years now and Apple has done nothing about them. Changing screen resolution size is not a workable option for most people as anything other than the native resolution renders fonts blurry. Tinker Tool can help with some font issues but not with the system fonts that give so many people problems.
I have read posts in other forums on this issue and the thing that was pointed out is the reason Apple refuses to allow system font control is they think such control will damage the integrity of the Aqua interface. While I disagree, it is, after all, their company and their product. While I am happy overall with the Mac platform, there are some things that Windows and Linux do much better than Apple and fonts are one of those items.

  • Set all Finder folder font sizes to 14?

Isn't there some way (AppleScript?) to set all folder font sizes to 14?
How about changing the column widths, etc?
It's really painful to change all 11,000 of them, one by one...

You should be able to do that from your pulldown menu in Finder "View" >> "Show view options" >> "Text size". The columns in list view you should be able to drag from the bottom of the scroll bar at the "ll" to set?
    Are these preferences not "sticking"?

  • Finder sidebar text size

is there a way to make the text in the sidebar of the finder larger
My poor old eyes are struggling ?

i too agree. i want to be able to customize every font on every application. Even the toolbars in Safari are too small for my liking and my screen is only about 24 inches away.
leave it to apple to take out something that we all have gotten used to. let's send apple some more feedback.
i do like some things though, like spaces. i used to always click the wrong window. I'd like it if they'd make the window edges more defined though. i mainly bought leopard for time machine. i hate making backups.
Anyway, the video on the apple website is, to me, much better than the paper manual to help you understand how everything works. if you haven't seen it, check it out here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/guidedtour. it's what convinced me to buy.

  • UITableView section header: How to find out font size and background color

Hi, does anyone know how to find out the default font and default background color(or image?) used in the section header of a tableView
I'd like to create a view with the same background color/image and use the same font (with different color) used by the section header

I don't think there are any getter methods for a section header. But I wouldn't be surprised if the header was an object. You might try setting some header text to a key string and searching recursively through all the subviews for objects that respond to a text message. It might help to also print the description of objects that don't respond to text. I haven't tried this yet, but will let you know if I get any useful results.
I guess another approach would be to use viewForHeaderInSection to set the font and color to whatever you wanted. Then you wouldn't have any problem matching it.

  • How Do I Change the Mailbox Font Size in the Sidebar?

In an earlier preview build of Lion, I was able to change the size of the Mailbox font used in the left sidebar to view more content in the column, but I don't remember what I did to change it.  The Mail/Preferences/Fonts & Colors pane no longer has a Mailbox font option.
Does anyone know how to change the Mail sidebar font size in Lion?

I'm not sure what you're responding to.  Bob H. above pointed out a clear bug in changing the Mail list font when he went to Mail/Preferences/Fonts & Colors and changed the font setting for the Mail list (second column), and it didn't work.
My issue was the font size in the first column (sidebar), which is not controlled in the Mail app, but by going to System Preferences/General and checking the box for changing the sidebar font size.  This checkbox also controls the font size for Finder (Desktop) windows sidebars (left column), where hard drives, other volumes, user Documents folders, and the like are listed.  This does work perfectly for me.
I have no other suggestions for you, except for perhaps trying removing the com.apple.finder.plist file located in the ~/Library/Preferences folder, which you can access by holding down the option key while selecting the Go menu at the top of the screen.  This controls the Finder window settings you have previously selected, and may be corrupted.  Simply move it to the Desktop for temporary safekeeping, then if it simply copied it, vice moving it out of the folder, right click on the file in the folder to move it to the Trash (you may have to authenticate).  This will force the Finder to recreate a default version of the file, which you can then remodify to your liking.  If that works, Trash the copy you moved to the Desktop.  If not, put it back in the folder to restore your prior settings.
    Good luck.

  • How do I change the Finder Sidebar size?

It an earlier preview build of Lion, I was able to change the Finder sidebar text size to make it smaller.  The default was too large, taking up too much real estate.  Unfortunately, I don't remember what I did to fix it.  Finder Preferences and View Options don't seem to offer any option to change the sidebar's font.
    Does anyone know?

Go to System Preferences/General and check the Sidebar Icon Size box.  Make your selection.  This controls the Mailbox sidebar and the Finder sidebar.
Previous F.A.N reply answered this for me.  I'm just adding the solution to this thread.  I couldn't easily find the way to close out this query.

  • Customize finder sidebar

Is there a way to customize the appearance of the Finder Sidebar? Specifically, I'd like to be able to change the font, or at least change its size onscreen. I have my Finder set to display file names in 10 point type, but the Sidebar labels insist on remaining enormous and ugly.
Is there a fix to this?
    Thanks!

There may be third-party software like TotalFinder 1.3.2 you might try, but I don't recall seeing anything that changes sidebar font size.

  • How to change font size in 2004A

    Hello,
I'm trying to find where is the font size config setting, but I'm not lucky. I know that from version 2005 this option is located in general settings, but not in 2004A. I've read in the forum there is a registry entry under Local machine -> Software -> SAP -> SAP Manage -> SAP Business One called Font Size. But there isn't any in my computer. I've created one, but no luck. I've searched all the registry and I didn't find any "Font Size" entry related to SAP. I have created one entry in the User section too but neither it works.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot for your fast answers. That seems not to be a problem for long cause we are plannig to switch to SBO2007 in next months. I've allready pass the database from 2004A to 2007A and all the update has been succesfull except addOns that need some little changes.
    Thanks again.

Finder>View>Show view options:  To change the icon & text sizes
System Preferences>Displays>Display:  Play around w/the resolutions to increase the Finder menu font size.
    System Preferences>Accessibility>Zoom is another option.
Browsers:  Check its Preferences to increase the font size as well as their menu bars.  Some have Aa or - + symbols to increase their fonts.
FF has an add-on called Theme Font & Size Changer.

then derive a font from that base font which is scaled by an affine transform to the pixel height you need using baseFont.deriveFont(at) I tried that already. Believe it or not the affine transform will do things like shearing but when you scale it simply jumps between integral point sizes. I thought that was kind of strange; but, that is the way it handles affine transforms on text in the deriveFont method and the Graphics2D object. Strange but true.O.k. I guess you were right with using an AffineTransform except that I need one more thing in the Grahics2D:
    g2.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_TEXT_ANTIALIASING,

I just bought my first 27 inch iMac..

With this high res display the font is a bit tiny and am just wondering if its possible to change the system wide font size?

    There are some suggestions here
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17593815#17593815
including changing the screen resolution and the font size for folder and icons.
Another option not mentioned there is to enable the 'Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom' option in
     > System Preferences > Accessibility | Zoom
After that, you can hold down the 'control' key and 2-finger swipe to zoom the entire screen.
