Finder: Single-Click Encryption

I just downloaded the new Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.  As I look through the new features I see one, under the Finder section, called "Easy Encryption."  It claims that:
"You can now encrypt a drive from the Finder. Select the drive and choose Encrypt from the contextual menu."
Yet when I right click the drives I have plugged in (eg. My Passport, Bootcamp ect.) I cannot find anywhere to run the encryption.  I have right-clicked and left-clicked the drives and nothing refers to encryption.  I have looked at all the system preferences and Finder preferences and nothing mentions encryption.
If someone has figured out how to use this "Single-Click Encryption" please help me to figure it out.  Thanks alot.
I have a 13-inch, Mid 2010 Macbook Pro with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

Ah, sorry.  It's often hard to tell how familiar folks are with things.
Use the Disk Utility app, in your Applications/Utilities folder.
In the sidebar, click the top line for the drive.  The Partiton Map Scheme will be shown at the lower right:

  • Single Click in Finder Opens Everything :(

We're having the oddest problem I've ever seen in 20+ years using macs.
This machine I'm on lately started acting funny. When I click in the finder on any document, a single click to select or highlight automatically opens the file, as if I double-clicked.
I can't select a file to change it's name, for example. I have to Get Info and change the name that way, becuase no matter what I do the files open with a single click/select.
I have altered the mouse settings in SP and it doesn't change the result. I also switched mouses to make sure it's not that.
I really don't want to re-install the system, but is that probably what needs to happen?
Has anybody ever heard of this and have any ideas?
    Thanks much!

    Hi BulaRae,
Have you tried creating a new account and see how your Finder works in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.)
Open System Preferences > Accounts > "+" make it an admin account.
If this works, then log back into your problem account and navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
    Let us know.

I had Snow Leopard and was using iWeb and Filezilla for my website (not MobileMe). Wanting to move to single-click publishing (supported by MobileMe), I now find it is not supported by iCloud and Mountain Lion. I feel cheated, having bought it mainly for this purpose! The other thing they don't tell you is that Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac, and I am considering uninstalling it for that reason - do I get my money back?!

You stated; "Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac"
    That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

  • Single-click to open in finder

Is there an option to have single-click open files and folders in the Finder?

    You're welcome.
I use the Logitech Control Center software that shipped with the mouse, though I actually downloaded the latest version from the Logitech Web site — vs. using the version that came on the included CD — to be sure I had the latest version.
The version I am using is for PPC. I don't believe they've released a Universal Binary yet for Intel-based Macs: I did not see anything to this effect on their Web site when I checked today. You could contact Logitech about the availability of a Universal Binary. I suspect one may be forthcoming: many vendors have to address the move to Intel-based Macs.
You wrote: "Can you configure the mouse-wheel click to open in a new tab in Safari?"Yes. Any button can be configured for a custom keystroke. Since the keyboard combination to open a new tab in Safari is Command-T (assuming tabbed browsing is enabled), one could configure any button on the mouse to perform Command-T when pressed.
    Good luck!

  • I have to "single-click" twice (not double click) to open an item in the Dock.

Can someone confirm if this is Expected Behavior??   (OS = Mavericks)
If you have Assigned an application in your Dock to a Desktop & Display in the application's Dock >> Options  (ex: Assigned To:  Desktop on Display 2):
Click once on the application icon in the Dock, the application's Menu will populate on the top of your screen, but not the application itself (yet), click the application icon a second time, the application will now show too.
Docked Applications that do not have an Assigned To: Desktop & Display in the Dock options, you only need to single click.
    FYI:
For odd Dock behaviors otherwise try this:
You may have a corrupted Dock preferences file.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist    (plist = preference list file)
Click Go then move the com.apple.dock.plist file to the Trash, or move it to your Desktop.
Restart your Mac and see if the behavior is resolved.  You will have re-configure your Dock settings.

From where are you launching Mail? The only place, unless I've missed or forgotten something, you can launch an application with a single click is from the Dock. Is this what you're doing, or are you attempting to launch Mail from the Applications folder?
    Regards.

  • How do you change to single click to open files and folders?

  • Why am I sometimes sending duplicate emails and why when I sometimes single click an incoming messages to view it in the viewer window  why does it open?

My computer got very touchy a few days ago as in the finder or in mail I would single click to select an item and it would open (rather than alloiwng me to just select it) or I would command select to select several items and they would open before I finished.
I did a complete reinstall and finder part of the problem is gone, but it still exists in Mail.  Also before the reinstall just about every email I sent would duplicate-- not it only happens occaisionally.
Anyone got any ideas-- thank you

Hi, ybg, and welcome to the Community,
Your detailed report (thank you) indicates to me your account has been compromised a second time.  Change your Skype account password immediately if you have not already done so, as well as that of any saved payment method on file.  I would also run a maintenance cycle on your computer/laptop, ensuring all patches and updates are installed.  Also run your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware suite using the most recent virus signature files available.
You are right to contact Skype Customer Service to report this incident.  I have read that people experience problems reaching them, however please do continue to do so, choosing a different path through the various steps than you used the first time; try also using a different web browser.  I have also read that the instant message chat sessions with Customer Service agents appear as a pop-up dialogue box, which needs to be enabled or the connection to the agent will not process.
Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
As a general proactive precaution, I would recommend reviewing how you access the internet, particularly seeking any vulnerabilities or patterns common to the first incident and this one.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • Single Click in OS X: is that possible?

    Hello,
Is it possible to switch from double click to single click in OS X? I don't find anywhere in system preferences giving me this option!
    Thanks, Ramin

    Hi Robert,
Yes, there are various ways through menus and keyboard shortcuts to launch a program or open an item without double clicking on it, but that wasn't the OP's question. They want to be able to do that by clicking on the item once without doing anything else.
The Finder in OS X will let you do the same thing OS 9 did. Highlight the item by clicking on it once and then press Command+O. Same as OS 9. If it's an app, it'll launch. If it's a file of some sort, it will launch the associated app and then open in that app. You can also add anything to the Dock in OS X. Once there, it's a one click launch.
A double-click, however, should never be required.
It needs to be a requirement. How else would the system know whether you were clicking, say on a Photoshop document, once just to highlight it or to open it? If everything required only once click, you would constantly be opening files or launching applications you didn't intend to. There has to be a say to separate the meaning of your actions without always having to resort to a second action after first clicking on an item in order to do something with it.

  • There was away (before Mavericks) I could single click on an email and it would highlite but not open.  I could either delete or second click and the email would then open.  Can anyone tell me how to configure the prevue pane to that end with Mavericks?

There was a way (before Mavericks) I could single click on an email in the "prevue pane" and it would highlite but not open.  I could then either delete it or click again and it would open.  With Mavericks that doesn't seem to be available making it impossible to delete an email in the prevue pane before I open it.  Its frustrating to have to go through all the monkey motions when I know I want to delete it from the get-go.  Does anyone know who to configure for that operation?  I'm using an iMac.

Wow,  have you ever seen 1 Billion in hard cash?  If not, I assure you it exists as well.
Try not to pick apart what others write because you "have not seen it."
I run TWO programs for protection of my MAC now and have been for sometime b/c developers of them become complacid thinking MAC is impermeable.
My MAC locked me out of it and two externals and when I finally did get back into them Norton Anti-Virus found a "worm."  When I asked the program to find the origin, it was traced back to an email, as you said, that I opened unintentionally.  I still have two external HDs for backup and a cloud backup now.
When ClamX ran after Norton was finished, ClamX found what it called as "spyware," and it's origin was in my email also.  I tried to delete the emails after the programs (both) identified the infected files, however once deleted and the computer is restarted, they were still there because I ran the scans again.
Now since we are no longer talking about how to turn on and off the view pane in apple mail; riddle me this,  why can't the developers of these antivirus and antispyware/malware programs get together and develop ONE PRODUCT that catches 90-95% of the viruses/worms/spyware/malware ect that get onto MAC's?  Is it because they are too busy thinking they don't exist?
I still run both programs and feel protected between the two.  If Norton said it was a "worm" then I believe it was a worm and if ClamX called it "spyware" then I believe it is spyware.
I had to wipe my MAC and do a fresh install to get it working again, then I had to open one of those externals (which was very, very difficult) multiple times until finally it displayed the message "you can view, but not change the data."  I exported as much as I could to my cloud and I had to format both of those too.
I still run both programs as I feel protected between the two.  If Norton tells me it is a "worm" then I believe it is a "worm;" if ClamX tells me it is "spyware" then I believe it is "spyware."  If it happens again, which my hope is that it won't, I will be more than happy to send the infected files to you!!
Try not to "forum rage."  Support forums to post experiences and find answers, not nit-pick or claim not existance b/c you have not experienced it for yourself.

  • Photoshop CS3 tool palette submenus appearing on single click (isntead of click + hold), how can I disable this?

Sometimes I happen to click on tools instead of using the hotkey, if it feels convenient or whatever.  However, on my work machine I'm having a problem where a single click opens up the submenu for whatever tool I clicked on.  For example, I click on rectangular marquee, and instead of just selecting rectangular marquee as the active tool it also presents me with the little submenu to choose from the alternative marquee tools.  In all the years I have worked with Photoshop, this is the first time I have experienced this--usually I have to click+hold to get the submenu.  Click+hold is the behavior I want out of this feature, but I can't find any setting in the preferences to enable/disable this weird mode?

The timing is directy related to the 'Double-click Speed' setting for your mouse. If it is 'Slow', then you have to hold longer; if it set to 'Fast' then you always get the pull down menu. There currently is no way to change this behavior directly is Ps (ie. pref. toggle to disable).
I have seen people complaining that they need to double click to just select the main tool. In other words, that might be a workaround if you want to keep the mouse double click speed on the fast side (single click gives pull down, double click selects main tool).
I'll enter a feature request to add a preference that toggles click+hold On/Off.

    steve

  • 2 iframe change with 1 single click in flash

Hi all, I would like to have 2 iframe change with 1 single
click in flash, I tried to find the right code but didn't get right
one. Here I attached the code sample which doesn't work at all but
you will the idea of what I would like to do. I heard there's a
solution using onClick function, but I just want to attach to
simple coding, and not sure if I can handle it, thanks very
    much.

I mean if I just use the below script, it works.
    getURL("javascript:loadintoIframe('myframe',
    'v_vista_b5.html')");
but if I want to control 2 iframes in one clicking, it
doesn't work(it basically load only the second statment, and skips
the first). I'd like to know is it possible to combine below 2
    javascript into one?
    getURL("javascript:loadintoIframe('myframe',
    'v_vista_b5.html')");
    getURL("javascript:loadintoIframe('topframe',
    'top_v_vista_b5.html')");
    thanks again.

  • Remediation for single-clicking a double-click action

I'm using the double mouse click feature of a Click box in a
software simulation lesson we've built in captivate. Unfortunately
when the user single-clicks in the Click box, no remediation shows
to tell the user that they must double-click in the box to complete
    the step.
Anyone have any ideas on how to provide the user with
remediation on single clicking a double click Click box?
    Thanks,
    Scott Witlen
    McKessson Provider Technologies

Um... there are no macros. Captivate is a closed system with
no documented API outside of some variables you can read and in
some cases, set to make Captivate do some simple navigation-related
things. Search the Captivate help file for 'variables' and you'll
    find a list.
Outside of that, the only official ways to "enhance"
    Captivate are either to:
    - Create your own standalone functionality in Flash and
insert it in Captivate as a self-contained animation. This can be
problematic due to the closed nature of the Captivate runtime, as
well as the layering imposed by the use of skins and borders.
    - Make Javascript calls to the browser and put the
functionality there. Since there is limited interactivity between
Javascript and Flash, this is much more limited in scope than
    inserting your own self-contained animations
Some folks have also opened up a published SWF with a
decompiler program and viewed the Adobe source code in an effort to
make their inserted animations do cooler things, but that is very
    much an unsupported activity.

  • Single-click registers as double-click, trackpad AND mouse

I did a search here and elsewhere on this and it seems to be a fairly common issue among G4 PowerBook users. These are the threads I found here on the subject just doing a quick search...

I have the same problem and it's really starting to annoy me since I started using this computer more frequently recently. I've owned it since new. It has done this off and on since I bought it. I only used it for travel so I just put up with it but now I'm using it for all E-mail to free up my primary desktop for other needs and this is starting to drive me crazy. The machine originally had Panther on it and when I migrated to Tiger I thought that might fix it. No such luck.
The problem is that quite often when I single-click on something, whether in the Finder or an Application, it registers as a double-click. It doesn't matter if I use the trackpad or a mouse, same problem.
I've tried different "Keyboard and Mouse" settings in System Prefs and nothing makes any difference. I've tried the PMU reset too. No change. I've tried it with the mouse disconnected and I've tried it with two different mice. No improvement. I've even tried it with green eggs and ham but the problem persists!
I've never had this issue with ANY other Mac I currently own (3 others) or have owned in the past (many since 1985). My only speculation is that MAYBE the humidity/static in my environment has something to do with it. I've never noticed an exact correlation but it SEEMS that perhaps I may be having this problem more often when the climate is dry. Possible?
Has anyone found a definitive cause/solution for this issue? Thanks!
    Mike

Glad that worked for you Sup3rL4m3r but I suspect we have different issues. I have no problems with anything except single-clicks and click-drags registering as double clicks with either the trackpad or mouse. I have no issues with my "wallpaper" or with erratic cursor issues, or with anything else. When I upgraded to Tiger as indicated in the original post, I did an archive and install but it did nothing to mitigate the problem.
This seems to possibly be a somewhat common problem based on previous posts I've read on it but I suspect that the lack of any solutions suggests it is a design flaw of some sort that has no solution. Perhaps it is not prolific enough to get any attention. Darned shame since this machine has otherwise been flawless. Kind of like buying a new car that has a hesitation on acceleration that you can't get rid of. Most annoying.

  • Single click open - where?

I have a very lame question. I changed a setting that caused SQL Developer 1.5 to no longer open an object (such as a procedure) when I select it in the connections window. I have literally searched for hours but can't find that setting again. Please tell me where to find that setting.

I believe what you're looking for is under
Tools --> Preferences --> Database --> Advanced Parameters: Open Object on Single Click.

  • The single-click challenge

    The single-click challenge
Assume you are in the Finder. There are no windows open. You want to create a new window, and to show your most natural place: Home.
I can't think of much else that might be as basic and as trivial. It is something that should be doable with a single click. Not a double-click. Not via a keystroke combination. Doable by a single click at anytime, no matter what app is in the foreground.
This used to be possible in Tiger, just: You had to drag your home folder onto the dock. It would sit there, looking cosy with its little roof and windows, and waiting to be single-clicked on. No matter where and when, swoosh to the dock, click, hey presto.
Try it on Leopard. Your home-on-the-dock has turned into a demented bland smudge. You now have to first sit there and suffer the visual assault of stacks. It is hard to believe that something could combine such blue-gray dreariness with so much kitsch in its interfering action. And if you want your new home window, you have to first click, then either hold, wait, move up carefully, and release, or alternatively release, move to some obscure blob with a swirl and click again.
Maybe one of you can suggest something, something that I'm surely missing. Surely there IS a single-click option without writing a special patch. No?
As for my overall impressions of Leopard: Yes, the graphics are dazzling, thank you. But the loss of countless simple yet vital functionalities, the ubiquitous in-your-face sidebar that devours my screen space and will not go away, the quantum-mechanical nature of what spotlight may or may not choose to find depending on which side of the bed it got out of, and so much more.. these all make me sick as a parrot. Shame on you, Apple. Add visual power, by all means. But you have dumped on reliability from a great height, turned searches into random walks, and you have robbed us of countless past options that let us keep things simple by OUR personal standards, not by yours, if we preferred so to do. Try again, and very very fast, please.

Welles has effectively elaborated on the conditions necessary for John's solution to work. Which actually means that if you have a different preference for your initial folder location, Leopard STILL flunks it totally. So technically the challenge is back on! I'm so glad I didn't mention a prize
