Finder Slideshow broken in 10.4.6?

Does this happen to anyone else? I just upgraded to 10.4.6 and if I select images in Finder, then right click and start a slideshow nothing happens. Is this a known issue?
--Thanks

My slideshow is also working fine. You might try launching Console from your Utilities folder and see if you are getting an error message when you try to start a slideshow.

  • Finder Slideshow Feature?

I am was using the finder slideshow feature to view some images of mine, but I realized my pictures were going out of the order they were named. Is there anyway i can fix this?

    Rohit,
Change the view of the Finder window to column view, select the pictures, then choose "Slideshow." When in icon view, the Finder sorts in a different, sometimes unexpected way.

  • Starting Finder slideshows

Here's a tip for anyone who laments the apparent loss of the Finder Slideshow capability: it's not gone, just hidden. With the Finder File menu open, press and hold the option key. The Quick Look menu item will change to Slideshow.

This is a great tip... but this is very strange! This suggestion does not come up in Apple Help... Apple just says for slideshows to go to iPhoto!
Any way to change the timing of the slides?

  • Finder Zoom Broken?

I've got 10.4.4 installed on a PMG5 Dual Core and the zoom feature in the Finder seems broken. When I click on the zoom button the first time, the window properly shrinks or expands to fit the content and the second click appropriately sizes the window back to what it was originally. But that seems to be the end of it. After that, no matter how much content is added to the window, all subsequent zooms only cycle between the first two sizes (the first time it was zoomed and the original window size). This behavior is incorrect.
Also, I've got an AppleScript that preps Finder window views to my liking, which includes setting the zoomed property to true. This no longer works. I get the error: "Finder got an error: Can't continue ."
Any clues or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Once you know an issue is user specific you need to narrow down what is causing the issue in your user.
The first place to check is in the Library
Open the Library and locate your Preferences folder.
Pull it out to the desktop.
Log out of your user and back in. Don't be alarmed the Preferences folder contains any preference settings you have set up and you can get them back by putting back the folder. We are just isolating whether the issue is in your preferences.
Open an app or 2 to test the apple tab. Is the finder icon displaying properly now?
If so then you know that the issue is with a preference in the folder.
Quit the applications and open the Library again. The system created a new set of default preferences and a new folder. Move that folder to the trash and drag back in the Preferences folder you had dragged to the desktop.
Log out and back in and all your preferences will be reestablished.
You now know the issue is with one of the files in that folder so you need to isolate the file. You can do that by removing them in groups then logging out and back in and seeing if it was one of the group.
Personally I usually remove the entire folder and put back my com.apple.mail.plist and my ichat plist. I can open my applications folder and drag an application icon or 2 back into the dock. My application preferences get set up whenever use the applications. I found it easier than isolating the corrupt plist. Sometimes it is a combination of plists and that is hard to isolate.

  • Spotlight feature in my Finder got broken?

As I'm new on this forum hello to everybody!
So my problem is that Spotlight in Finder got broken.
Before when I was clearing up the search box with Backspace for example, the finder window was returning to his previous state (colum view or list view). (or it was in my dreams??)
Now it's get stuck in the spotlight view and sometimes keeps searching with nothing in the search box.
I've zapped both finder and sidebar .plists and problem still persists.
Created a test account, cleaned system and apps caches, reinstalled last combo (10.4.8) problem persists on both accounts.
I found it out after Finder crashed when I shutted down my other computer to which iMac was connected via wifi.
    My system: iMacG5 10.4.8
Any hint for ? I figured it out today and its very-very annoing. And if it is possible to fix without fresh reinstall...
    iMac G5 iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

the focus doesn't jump from viewwindow to sidebar.
That's normal. What about the plist? Navigate to ~(Home)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist and delete that file. Then log out and back in or restart.
EDIT: Yes, post the crash log. Perhaps someone will be able to read the tea leaves. Try to leave out repeating log messages if possible.

  • Can't find Slideshow Settings button or pane

    Hello,
I'm on my way to slideshow to QT to iMovie to YouTube, but I can't find how to set the display time of the slides. The help pages are mentioning things I cannot find.
    Thank you.

If you're working from an album and not a slideshow as Terence mentioned, while the slideshow is playing move the cursor near the bottom of the screen and the settings and music panes will appear where you can select them. The settings can be saved but will apply only to that particular album.
For more control over the slideshow create one like Terence mentioned.

  • Can't Find Slideshows within Time Machine iPhoto Backup

I have spent quite a lot of time setting up a slideshow with Ken Burns effects and added music. Large slideshow with 367 photos, went to send it to iDVD and it doesn't work...can't export it as it seems it's too large but that is another story (I think a bug with iPhoto 09)...even after the update! Anyway...someone suggested splitting the slideshow up to export it to see if that worked. I did that and the two new parts of the slideshow no longer have the Ken Burns effect applied. My stupid fault, but I already deleted the photos that weren't required from the original slideshow and the Undo worked once but then greyed out. I'm guessing it must have saved in the middle...typical! So...having backed up with Time Machine the night before I plugged in the drive and navigated to iPhoto from yesterday. Photos all there but no Slideshow in the left hand pane. Maybe I'm missing something or does Time Machine not backup slideshows that have not been exported?
    Thanks

Solved, restored the iPhoto Library from the finder and it worked!

  • Finder slideshow controls not centered anymore

    Hi,
As you all know it's possible to start a slideshow by selecting a number of photos in the finder, contorl-click and select "slideshow" from the menu.
While the slide show is playing you can get a set of controls to appear by moving the mouse.
These controls used to appear in the middle of the screen, but after installing 10.4.8 (I believe it was then) the controls appear more to the right of the screen.
This happens on the 18" Compaq LCD-screen I have attached to my PPC Mini, while on the screen of my MacBook the controls still appear in the centre of the screen.
I have not tried the MacBook with an external screen.
I installed the combo update (PPC and Intel respectively) on each machine.
Have anyone of you seen this behaviour?
I am thinking maybe it would fix itself if I throw away some .plist file on the Mini, but I am not sure which one (or which ones) might affect this....
    Regards,
    J-son

I tried turning off parental controls for the kid's account, and the behavior is the same: clicking on the game in the applications folder causes the app icon to bounce once and disappear. Other recently installed games (Riven X, Myst III) work as before. Game works fine in my account and guest.

  • Finder Alias Broken after Changing Router

I have two Macs in a network. The iBook uses the iMac as a server.
On the iBook I have some alias folders that point to the original folders on the iMac server.
I recently changed my router and the IP address of the iMac changed.
Now if I open the alis when the server volume is mounted then all is well. If I open the alias when the server is not mounted then the alias is flagged by the Finder as needing to be fixed. It looks as if the Finder is not finding the new location of the server volume. If I repair the alias then the finder will mount the volume and open the orginal.
I would have expected the Finder to automatically repair the alias since the name of the server is still the same.
    Any suggestions?
    Richard
iBook, iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The aliases you created are linked to an IP address that no longer exists. It's the same thing that would happen if you made an alias of a folder then placed that folder inside of another one. The link would be broken and Finder wouldn't know where it was.
Your only solution is to fix the links or create new aliases of the folders.

  • Crtl + F find tool broken?

The find bar (ctrl + f) seems to be broken. I'll search for something that is directly on the page that I can see on the page, but it claims there are no results found. I've already tried a lot of the fixes people claim works (checking if Match Case is checked [it's not], disabling extensions), nothing seems to fix it.
If it helps, I took a video of the problem in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2baqhoBtUs
So... is Firefox broken, or did I do something wrong?

hi marioaddict, let's try to troubleshoot the issue: can you get to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

  • Find & fix broken Mac files || make my Mac cleaner

    Good afternoon folks,
I have decided to clean up all the mess in my Mac a little bit.
So, I would like to ask you:
is there any software (or maybe I could do something by myself to deal with this issue) which could find and fix broken Mac files?
is there any software (or maybe I could do something by myself to deal with this issue) which could make my Mac cleaner, like deleting cache or broken "trash" files, in other words, by this way making my Mac work faster?
Talking about my Mac, it is a new MacBook pro 15-inch model, with the highest specifications, which was bought in this June. It has also installed Mac OS, Lion inside.
    Thank you in advance.

is there any software (or maybe I could do something by myself to deal with this issue) which could find and fix broken Mac files?
If you think your hard drive is corrupt, repair it as Sonicray has suggested.  As to whether the contents of a file are bad, only the program that created the file can possibly know that, except for certain standard formats like JPEG.  What kind of files are you worried about?
is there any software (or maybe I could do something by myself to deal with this issue) which could make my Mac cleaner, like deleting cache or broken "trash" files, in other words, by this way making my Mac work faster?
There are many programs that will clean your caches to "make your Mac faster."  Which begs the question: why is the cache there in the first place?  To give cache cleaners something to do?  No.  The answer is that the cache is there to keep your Mac running fast, and constantly clearing it out interferes with that and will actually harm performance!  Clearing caches should be a troubleshooting step only, not regular maintenance as many would have you believe.
Not sure what "broken trash files" are...
Basically, your Mac does not need any constant fussing-with to keep it running well, like a Windows machine does.  Keep about 10% or more of the hard drive free at all times, check the hard drive with Disk Utility before installing any system updates, and keep a good set of backups.  That's about all you need to do regularly.

  • "Find Finder Items" Broken? Help!

I'm having a problem with Find Finder Items. I set it as follows:
    Find Finder Items
Where: 100EOS7D (this is a folder on my drive)
Whose: Extension is equal to CR2
When I run this I see in the window below all my CR2 files listed. However, I also see my path and directory listed twice at the top. Why? My next step is to move the results of this search to the trash, but along with the files, my folder is moved to the trash as well!
    Am I doing something incorrectly?
Please let me know either here or at *********.

    Thanks!

please don't put your email in the post. it's against forum rules. are you using automator? please give full details of the whole workflow, not just one action.

  • Finder slow/broken using "Shared", /Volume fast

    Running 10.9.5
Mounting a DFS share from a Windows 2012 server.
Macbook is joined to both an Open Directory and Active Directory domain. Authentication handled by AD.
Mounts are as follows (username/companydomain removed)
//username@companydomain/dfs on /Volumes/dfs (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, mounted by username)
//username@companydomain/dfs/home%20folders on /Volumes/dfs/home folders (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse, mounted by username)
//username@companydomain/dfs/Docs on /Volumes/dfs/Docs (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse, mounted by username)
If I navigate with Finder to /Volumes/dfs things are fast, snappy and wonderful.
However, if I use finder and click on "Shared" -> "companydomain" then shares are missing most of the time. If they are there, then I get errors like:
smb2_rq_credit_decrement: Timed out waiting for credits 35
    smb_iod_reconnect: Reconnected share <share_name> with server <server_name>
smb_fid_get_kernel_fid: No smb2 fid found for fid 550ff6b0613adf68
    smb_iod_reconnect: Reconnected share <share_name> with server <server_name>
If I navigate to either cifs://companydomain/dfs or smb://companydomain/dfs it's very hit and miss as to whether it will work.
If I configure Finder to show "Servers" on the desktop, then the "DFS" mount is fast, snappy and wonderful.
So, help, how do i configure Finder to display the correct mount that actually works?

I think those aren't simple files, though...
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
and some others may hold some of them.
I think most of the problem lies in the files/folders at Root called Automount, Network, and Servers.
If you wish to try to eradicate them with sudu Terminal commands I can gelp.
I've used Xupport to turn off hiding those Hidden files so it's easier to see those things, though I've been admonished for suggesting the regular User do such things... I hate the concept of Hidden Files... well, when everything goes right, they're not a problem, but over here, when things go wrong and Apple can't fix them, then most are at a loss.

  • How to find/remove broken symlinks in Snow Leopard?

Long story, but I need to check my system for broken symlinks and aliases and, if there are any, remove them.  Is there a way to do that in the Terminal?  If so, what are the exact commands?  Obviously, I would like to know what they are, if any, before I issue any commands to delete them, so I would prefer a two-step process, if possible.

    Works fine for me. 10.6.3.

  • Finder sidebar broken after 10.5.6 upgrade

    Hallo everyone
After upgrading my MacPro using the full combo update, I have the following problem with the Finder:
If you collapse all disclosure triangles on the sidebar and expnad them again, the display of all icons and labels is completly messed up.
Labels are overlapping and clicking does break the highlighted rows.
Can somebody confirm they have the same issue?
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Patrick,
You may want to refresh the Sidebar plist file by dragging the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and confirm your settings in Finder>Preferences...>Sidebar
