Finder slow on OSX Mavericks
After upgrade from Lion to Mavericks Osx I noticed that when I have a directory shared for network purposes, usually when I want to open this shared directory I will see the little Mac wheel. It is very annoying to wait 10 sec. to proceed with opening the shared directory. Every following subdirectory I see this strange behaviour.
I have a new Imac (2013) 21 Inch.
Already started DHT for hardwarecheck: no problems!
This following weblink does not work for me:
http://osxdaily.com/2013/11/13/fix-finder-slow-high-cpu-use-mac-os-x/
Who else has the same " Finder-problems" as explained here?
MadMacs0 here is my EtreCheck report, please help.

Finder Slow Down With Mavericks
After upgrading to Mavericks I noticed an immediate slow down in finder scrolling. For example: I have a long row of files. I scroll down on my MBP track pad and when the interia movement stops, I pull down again and the computer seems to be choking on a simple process of moving through the list. No different when using my bluetooth mouse.
I'm crossing my fingers that in the 10.9.31416 version some bloatware will be trimmed out of Mavericks and things will at least be as fast as the last version of the OS. Maybe we could start a new naming convention instead of the new one chosen by Apple: I nominate "Donkey" for this version. It's slow and stubborn acting.
Any suggestions? My MBP already has an SSD boot drive and the max ram it can fit.
Thanks!

Lightroom slower on OSX Mavericks than on Mountain Lion ??
Just yesterday i heard from renowned Jared Platt that Mavericks is slowing down Adobe products considerably. He has 2 machines and Mountain Lion is WAY faster. Neither Adobe or Apple could help him.
I couldn't find any real confirmation to this on the web. Any opinions, experiences? I want to upgrade from Snow Leopard, and there's a few things that i dont like about Mavericks anyway, so i really consider upgrading to ML. Any comparisons folks? Thanks!
MacBook Pro 8,2 early 2011 btw. Will install 500GB SSD and 16 GB RAM these days.As mentioned, my iMac is brand new.. UPS delivered it on friday and I've not filled my mac with trash yet. No antivirus, no firewall, no bootcamp and no rubbish.. I have Creative Cloud with LR, PS CC and PS CC 2014 installed. I also have PhaseOne Capture One Pro 7 installed, and its a lot slower than on my older Win workstation.
The thing that struck me is that my external Raid-5 chews on the RAW file 0.1 second, and when its done it takes 10-15 seconds of cpu-action to change from current file to next file, even when 1:1 is built. Same story with CO. Opening print- and web JPEGs in finder takes 2-4 seconds, even if JPEG is less than 5 MB. Activity monitor doesn't help a lot, only that LR is 100% when changing from current to next file. When opening file in finder, only system(kernel?) is at 100% when its "thinking" a lot..
I did manage to slim down LR by moving modules I don't use, and its now usable 'ish.. I removed print, web, book, map and tethering for Nikon and Leaf. I'm might be a mac noob, but I have 20 years behind computers, so I know in my case the bottleneck is the OS, hardware or the application. Any other tips is appreciated
Excuse my poor English, its 02:00am and its not my native language -
Looking for guidance to fix my VERY SLOW imac/osx mavericks
I installed Mavericks many months ago and was disappointed in how it just crippled my system. To date I've just muddled through. I've tried cleaning out some programs, but I'm not sure what I should keep and what I should ditch. I'm not also sure how much space I have or need for the programs I run. I just started using Adobe Creative Suite and those programs are very very difficult to work with - in any kind of timely manner. (which I need to do for my work) so I'm default to working on a PC (where I also have it installed)
I ran the etracheck that's been recommended in other discussions: Below is the result. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/119182.aspx
You also need to completely unistall CleanMyMac2. Macpaw's uninstaller is garbage. Search for and Download and install an app called FindAnyFile and use this to search for a delete files with the names CleanMyMac2 and MacPaw to completely rid yourself of the piece of paid "garbageware".
FIndAnyFile
http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary OR needed. They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac. Their potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
These types of system 'cleaning" apps are very poorly written and are really a scam to rob newbie and novice Mac users of their hard earned cash for a poorly written maintenance program that will do much more harm to a perfectly normal running OS X system than the good that the app developers purport these types of apps will do.
Plus, the software companies that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never, EVER download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and important data is too great a risk!
Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie or Final Cut user, both have its own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
http://www.omnigroup.com/more
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

Is there no swiping in the Finder? - Mac OSX Mavericks
Hi,
is it somehow possible to swipe with two or more fingers between previous pages in the Finder window?
I mean, without clicking the tiny button everytime you want navigate back and forth. Just gestures - like in Safari.
Thanks for your help!
Cheers.yesterday I posted the same issue here (https://discussions.apple.com/message/23485789?ac_cid=op123456#23485789)
it seems to be a bug in the finder app, that also appeared in beta versions (http://www.tips-and-tricks-in-mavericks.com/swipe-between-pages-gesture-broken-f or-finder-and-system-preferences-in-os-x-mavericks/) but that isn't fixed yet... by the way: in the calendar app I got the same problem. in launchpad sliding and in preview zoom and rotate also don't work proberly... perhaps there are more problems in mavericks with trackpad.
at the moment I fixed it with bettertouchtool. it works by linking gestures with shortcuts, a nice idea... but sometimes it disturbes the system included gestures, that should still work, I think. and above all, it's not a solution to repair basic system features by parallel running third-party software. -
I want to exclude Mail messages from showing up in Finder search on OSX Mavericks.
I went to the SysPrefs > Spotlight > Search Results tab and uncheck Mail but all my email messages still show up in finder searches. How do I exclude finder from searching mail?
Thank you very much, this works! I didn't know about that feature, so your help was really vital!

After Effects CC not finding Quicktime on OSX Mavericks
The machine I am using at work recently got upgraded. It is now rocking a SSD drive and has Mavericks installed. I also just signed up for CC and downloaded After effects (12.2.1).
When I try and launch AE I get a very long pause while "Initializing MediaCore" Then I get an error screen" "QuickTime" is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly."
I searched on the Adobe Forums and saw a tip about disabling firewalls and removing third party QT components. On the Mac the security preference pane has a "Firewall" tab, but clicking that shows nothing. I really don't think there is a firewall on the machine.
I did have the Aja, Avid, and DVCpro codecs on my startup drive (Library/QuickTime). I removed these. (I actually removed all but the AppleIntermediateCodec.component.) I restarted and launched AE, only to be met with the same error. Meanwhile on this same machine I can launch AE6 no problem. (However ALL of my QT outputs are available... this seems strange. When I added the new drive and Mavericks, I cloned all my settings over from another startup disk. Could Quicktime still be looking on that drive?)
I looked into console and I picked the area that seems to be reporting a crash. I posted that below.
Any tips on what I should do next would be appreciated. After Effects is pretty useless without the ability to read or write video.

1 __semwait_signal + 10 (libsystem_kernel.dylib) [0x7fff8cf6ea3a]Had the same problem – and finally could solve it ... Here's my solution that worked.
System: iMac OS X 10.9.4 | 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 | 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
QuickTime 7.6.6 and QuickTime X installed
After Effects CC Version 2014.0.2
After launching AE it took a long time "initializing MediaCore". Then the warning appeared "QuickTime is not installed on this system".
According to the solution above I first tried to delete just the newest AE preferences folder – but this didn't work.
Next I @deleted all AE preferences folders. But didn't work as well.
Now I deleted all preferences folders concerning Adobe media apps (AE, Premiere, Audition) – and hey: this worked for me! AE started very quick. The warning didn't appear. And AE works as fast and good as ever.
So the point is: Instead of deleting the entire Adobe preferences folder (with all the risks for the other apps) it's better to delete the folders one by one until the problems is solved. that heled

Remote printer is recognized but message says can't find printer? It worked great before installing OSX Maverick?
Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately I have already rebooted the router and that did not fix the problem. The weird thing is that the computer is connected to the network, it just won't connect to my computer. I have printed the network configuration page to confirm this, and it says the wireless signal is strong.
I have not changed anything at all recently in terms of routers, networks, etc. The printer stopped working completely randomly.
Is there a part in the printer that like emits a signal which computers, phones, etc are supposed to detect? I don't know enough about the mechanics to really theorize about what is wrong, but it seems like that is the only thing that stopped working.
Do you have any other suggestions? -

I recently loaded OSX mavericks on my Imac. I now find I cannot open any Adobe products from CS5. The error message reads " to open Adobe illustrator CS5.app, you need to install a JAva SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check and install one? I try to install but get the error" download error". As far as i know I'm using Adobe Java 7. None of my CS5 suite works anymore............and i really dont want to upgrade to a monthly cloud service fee as i hate this policy with a passion.
This goes for Dreamweaver CC on Mavericks!!!!! THANK YOU!
I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks! -

Indesign performance is slow on Mac OSX Mavericks
Hi,
I'm experiencing extremely poor performance from InDesign after a set period of time (usually an hour or two). The interface feels laggy and just general work within the program is jerky and slow. Along with this, some shortcuts like 'Duplicate' don't work, but work when clicked through the menu.
These problems seem to have occured ever since I installed OSX 10.9 Mavericks onto my iMac. Is this something other users are experiencing and is there a fix? If not, when are Adobe likely to get an update out that addresses glitches related to working on OSX Mavericks?
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
My machine:
iMac 27", Mid 2010, 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3Agreed…and the bigger the upgrade the more the risk.
Since Apple is allowing free upgrades from as far back as Snow Leopard and everything was fine before the upgrade, I will fall back to my advice to do a clean install of the O/S after backing everything up.
That said, you may benefit from simply uninstalling and reinstalling.
Me? Mountain Lion is just fine for now but I've already created a boot disk for Mavericks and will do a clean install once all of my software has been declared Mavericks ready. Still waiting for Extensis to update Suitcase Fusion 5.
Edit: Steve was locking while I was replying. -
Since we upgraded to OSX Maverick our printer is running slow. We have reinstalled the printer. We have an Epson Stylus NX420 printer. It makes copies fine it is just when we try to print something that we have a problem.
What part of the printing process is slow? Does it take a long time for the print dialog to appear after select File > Print, or does it take a long time after pressing the Print button for the job to start printing?
Since you mention upgrading to Mavericks, some users have found that a reset of the printing system resolves their printing issues. Note that this action will remove all devices from the Printers & Scanners preference pane. So you will need to add the printer or scanner again after performing the reset.
