Finder Tags In Time Capsule?

I have some files on my Time Capsule (purchased in 2014) that I would like to use the coloured Finder Tags on. I can tag the files so they have the coloured dot next to them but when I search for the files via the tags they don't appear, only the files on my iMac do. Am I potentially doing something wrong? Is it not actually possible to tag files on a Time Capsule? Is this going to be different in OS X Yosemite?

i am connecting my windows pc to the time capsule ethernet prots but those pcs are not shown in my macbook or those windows pc also can not see my macbook pro. i am facing the problem...

  • Find out my time capsule's mac-address ?

    Hi,
I need to find out my time-capsule's mac-address to allow it on my network (ethernet mac-address).
I found some answers to that question but unfortunatly with the old version of airport utility.
    Thanks, Léo

    1. The MAC address is printed on the label of the rubber mat on the bottom of the TC.. right there on the TC itself.. you might need a magnifying glass to see it if like me you are getting old.
    2. Download and use the REAL airport utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Since apple knew the one they supplied in Lion was useless.. they released on the same day the original version updated for lion.. so you could do something.. ie a utility that has utility.. rather than utility to look pretty.

Is it easier finding a deleted photo in time capsule using aperture, than iphoto?
    Considering buying aperture
No. Aperture works just ltke iPhoto as far as trying to go back and find photos that were deleted.
You must go back in time to the point where the photos were still on your computer and then restore the entire iPhoto library as a separate library, keeping your current library as well. Then, open iPhoto using the "restored" library, browse to find the photos that you want and export them to the desktop.
Then, open iPhoto again using your current library, and import the photos from the desktop back into the current library.  When you are sure that you have everything back in the current library, you can delete the old library and that you restored, and the exported items on the desktop since you no longer need these copies.

  • Can't Find Pictures in Time Capsule

OK, I'm a little stumped here. When I open Time Capsule, the "Search For" section is grayed out so I can't press "all images" and when I open my home folder and press pictures, only the iPhoto icon comes up. If I click on it, it's just the icon. WHere are my pictures being backed up to? This is one of the sole reasons I got time capsule.

If you use iPhoto then it’s the iPhoto Library that is backed up, and the correct way to restore is via the File -> Show back ups option or simply to restore the entire iPhoto Library.
That said, you can access the actual photo files in the back ups by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and going ‘Show Package Contents’.
    Standard warning
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • Airport utility cannot find my new Time Capsule

I just bought a new timecapsule, connected it to my modem via the wan port, turned it on and the light went from green to flashing amber. Airport Utility does not find any wireless devices i can try over and over but no succes.
I reset the Timecapsule a few times already. Whatever i try airport utility does not find anyhting and i can make no connection with my timecapsule
I thought this should be so hard.. does anyone know whats going wrong?
I looked on various websites but i never get past the second 2 step: Airport utility recognizing my timecapsule
Also tried software update but it says everything is up to date..
    Hope somebody can solve this!
    Thanks in advance

Airport Utility does not find any wireless devices i can try over and over but no succes.
Look for another wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx and log on to this network. No password is required. Then open AirPort Utility.
Or, temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule and then open AirPort Utility.

  • Spotlight does not find files on Time Capsule disk

I have the 2TB time capsule configured with a DATA and FIL disks.  The DATA is used for the Time Machine backups.  The FIL disk is used as a NAS (Network Access Storage) disk.  The FIL disk works as advertised except Spotlight.  When I mount the FIL as a shared disk and go into Spotlight and seach for a file by the filename, nothing happens.  I spent hours on this.  I seached Google and found nothing.  I also tried mounting the disk as a SMB.  This works partially when I alter the search criteria to seach only "Shared".  But it only works within the folder.  It does not search the entire tree.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

By default, network drive is not indexed.
See here for the default list of folders that Spotlight will search:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301533
You can manually turn on spotlight on a specific volume by using Terminal and enter:
    sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/X
(where "X" is the name of the network volume.)
If the index is corrupted, and you want to rebuild it, enter:
    sudo mdutil -E /Volumes/X

  • Can't find files on Time Capsule

    Early 2008 2.4 GHz iMac running 10.7.5
Time Capsule with 699 GB available (connected via Ethernet cable)
When I bought my Time Capsule I added all of my pre-Time Machine backups to it in a separate folder. This worked fine for several years. Time Machine backed everything up and if I need an older file I went into the folder I made of previous backups. Now, when I access Time Capsule I only see the Time Machine backups. The folder of previous backups isn't there. There's still tons of space on it so I can't imagine anything was overwritten. Also, the Time Capusle never shows up like other external hard drives or devices - only as a shared device. Not sure if that has something to do with it. I can't tell when this started. It's been a while so there were a couple of OS updates in there. At this point, I just want to get my really old files off of it and move them to another hard drive. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • HOW DO you FIND PASSWORD for Time capsule?

How do I find the password for a time capsule

Sorry but it is so diffiicult to answer this question..
Is this the wireless password. Or the admin password or the disk password.. or pppoe password, orr even the user password.
There are at least 3 and maybe 10 different passwords depending on the setup.. we have no idea which one you need.
Press reset for 1sec.. then the router will reset and you can change all the passwords to whatever you want.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3372
This time write down the password.

If you are asking about iPhoto and Time Machine backups, it is not possible to browse the iPhoto Library in the backups.
You must restore the entire iPhoto Library, then use iPhoto to locate the image(s) that you need.
For iPhoto specific help, your best bet is to post in the iPhoto support area. The iPhoto experts are over there. We are not iPhoto experts here. Click the link below for more info about iPhoto:

  • Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore

I bought a 2TB Time Capsule and hooked on a 1TB external hdd to it. All my files and music are on there. My Macbook Air can't find my Airport Time Capsule all of a sudden. It regularly disconnects since they day I got it but since yesterday it can't connect anymore. Internet works fine though. The utility app tells me that it used to be in my network but now isn't anymore. Could it have something to do with adding my iMac to the network? Any thoughts?

Yosemite is unreliable OS.. especially on network side.. it has multiple issues.
I have no idea what Apple thinks they are doing but a fix still has not arrived.
Here is the list of things which help but may not cure it.
A factory reset of the TC is the start.. it is required so you can find it again.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.

  • Finder freezes when accessing Time Capsule

Hello everybody, I'm experiencing a problem with my Time Capsule 4th Gen 2Tb. My Macbook Pro 15" Core i7 4GB (early 2011) doesn't access my TC hard disk anymore. I can access and configure every feature with the AirPort Utility, and the wi-fi works pretty well (as always did). Even Finder recognize the Time Capsule's HD on the Shared Disks section. But, every time i try to access the HD, Finder stops for a second or two and then come back to life (without opening TC's hard disk folders)
I tried downgrading my Macbook to Mountain Lion, and upgrading again to Maverick. Both OSXs once worked just fine with my TC. I also tried soft, hard and factory resets on the Time Capsule. I even tried formating TC's hard disk.
I believe Time Capsule's HD isn't corrupted because I can access it perfectly with my PC (Windows 8.1) and my iPad 3rd Gen (iOS7). With then i can read and write the disk.
And now the stranger part: Time Machine works fine with my TC's hard disk. It just backed me up on TC's HD. (Nope, i can't restore my mac becuase i lost all of my previous backups).
    Does anybody have a clue?

It sounds like network issues which are fairly common .. more so with Mavericks but even Mountain Lion (and Lion) are far poorer than Snow Leopard which was solid.
Let me recommend another factory reset.
I want you to name the TC precisely as follows.. so when you go through the airport utility do not follow the apple recommended setup.
    TC base name.. TCgen4
    TC wireless name.. TCwifi
Please use only passwords that are also compliant.. pure alphanumeric which can be mixed case plus numbers.. but no special characters.
Make sure the disk share name is also short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. The newer utility uses data which is fine.. older ones used Time Capsule which is not.
Make sure the computer has IPv6 set to link-local.. this is really important.
Do the same for ethernet if you use it.
Then manually mount the disk in Finder.. use Go, Connect to server.
AFP://TCgen4 (replace with the actual name if you don't follow my recommend).
    OR and even better.
AFP://10.0.1.1 (or whatever the IP is .. but it must be static) When you use the TC as main router it is default to 10.0.1.1 and by supplying that info directly the computer has less issues finding it.
Make sure the computer then finds the network resource and it will ask you for disk password.. please type that in and save in your keychain.. I stick to public which results in an error (you are supposed to change from default password but I ignore it).
The TC disk should then mount on the computer and you should have no issues accessing it.. if you do.. please tell me the whole network layout.
It is much better to test with the computer directly connected by ethernet to the TC. Do not connect via another router or switch at this stage.
Tell me more.. much more... if you can if you have issues.
Netstat scan can be very revealing. Open Network Utility and run the scan. Post screenshot of that as well as what you have in the airport utility for the setup.

  • New Airport Time Capsule Dropping Wifi/Internet with 7.7.1

Last week I bought a new Airport 2TB Time Capsule and had everything up and running within minutes. However, less than 24 hours later, the wifi signal started dropping devices all around the house. It started with the AppleTV, and eventually dropped our iPhones and iPad as well. The problem is one I've seen on these forums before (however, not with this new model).
I since exchanged it, and the new model is having the identical issues.
Basically, the problem is 1 of 3 things:
    1. You'll look down at your iPhone (or whatever device that is wirelessly connected), and see a full wifi signal. However, you'll have lost access to the Internet. Using the AirPort app won't find the Airport Time Capsule. Sometimes turning off wifi on the iPhone and turning it back on fixes the issue, sometimes the Airport Time Capsule needs to be restarted.
    2. The AirPort Time Capsule stops broadcasting SSID at random intervals. Even when standing right next to it, there is no way to join the network.
    3. The Internet connection drops in the middle of a browsing session (usually while using an iPhone).
On both devices (the original new one, and the replacement exchange), I immediately ran the firmware update. So, I'm thinking this could be a firmware issue.
This router replaces a Linksys e3000 that was working flawlessly. It's connected to a Cox Cable Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 modem (modem only, no router). The AirPort Time Capsule runs in WPA2 protected mode. It's running DHCP and NAT, and 2.4 and 5ghz are currently running the same network name (although I've tried separating them to no effect).
I am at my wits end. I find it hard to believe that both of these routers are defective. And I also find it hard to believe that I'm doing something wrong in the setup of this simple device, considering I've been working with all kinds of very complicated routers for over a decade without this kind of problem.
So I come to you, community, for help!
    Thank you in advance!

I don't have one.. but your testing is conclusive.. the TC is not stable on this firmware.. Apple will no doubt fix it .. I think their secrecy in marketing leads to less than adequate testing.. you are expecting to buy a mature product.. remember this is a ground breaker.. this is the first all new design since Gen1 TC.. all previous models used Maxell processor and chipset.. albeit with various wireless cards.. now it is broadcom.. processor and wireless.. this also runs apple written firmware.
Broadcom OEM firmware.(linux and hence open source) supplied to all manufacturers of products based on the chipset.. well that would be just wrong for apple... it has to be done in NETBSD,, so it is not open source.. the very thought.. open source.. . that would give everyone access to controls apple don't want you to have.. http setup even.. couldn't allow that.. so apple have to write the firmware from scratch and to match all those apple protocols. Hence where they are now now.
And your role is beta tester.. didn't you know.
Return it and stick with your Linksys (broadcom, Linux open source)  until Gen 6 TC comes out.
Unless you like the bleeding edge.
