Finder Text Size

Hi,
I got a mini for the living room and the text on the finder is mighty small on my big screen. I tried setting it to max on the preference settings, is there any way to make the text even bigger ?

Hi Ken,
If you are using 16 pt. type that is max. Have you tried switching resolutions? Just for information on my 24" monitor I use 12 pt and I have near vision problems.
You don't say which monitor you're using and this is also dependent on resolution and brightness.

Do you still have all toolbars visible (View > Toolbars)?
Did you use an extension or the standard zoom buttons that you can find in the toolbar palette in the View > Toolbars > Customize window ?
Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

  • Text Size on MacBook Pro

I recently switched over from a Windows XP machine and bought a MacBook Pro 2.2 ghz. The screen is great and it's set at it's optimal resolution; however, text in the mail program and a few other programs are a strain on the eye. Is their some setting that I am unaware of to bump up text sizing other then lowering the resolution. I tried doing that last night and the text did become bigger but the quality of text wasn't as crisp as in the higher resolution.
In Windows there is an option to config text size separately from resolution (which I understand wll be in Leopard), is there someting closely similar in Tiger?
Also, I see in Safari you can always bump up teh viewing size of text but yopu need to do it each time you start up the program.
I would like to hear what everyone else is setting their notebooks at.
    Thanks.

Learn to love "view options" and "preferences" and "options".
In every app on a mac and in the finder, there is somewhere that you can set your preferred font and font size.
Which sizes and which fonts are something that you should experiment with to see what suits you and your eyes.
I use small font sizes but that is what suits me; you need to choose your own. Play with the apps and look at what is available to you.
(the standard font sizes in windows apps were so large that they were crazy when I had to infrequently use a windows machine.)

  • How can I make sure the text size on front panel will be adjusted by itself from PC to PC?

In my VIs under VI Properties -- Window Size, I checked the two boxes:
--Maintain proportions of window for different monitor resolutions
--Scale all objects on front panel as the window resizes
It seems that it worked for everything on front panel except the pure text wording that I put there for instruction purpose.  The size of those text stuff didn't get changed proportionally after my application was built and run on different machines so some of them got cut off and looked messy.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Thanks very much!

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you for looking at my problem!
Both my development system and test system are Window XP. The font size are all set to Normal. What other details do you need to know?
The text on front panel shows well on my development machine. But when the .exe runs on my test machine, the text size was not adjusted by itself so the text body got cut off.
I found a way to "fix" this problem: I had to drag the text box down and right so there is enough magin between the text body and the box on the right and at the bottom. I had to try it a few times until it finally shows well on my test machine. However, with those magins, it doesn't look nice on my development machine anymore. Also, I only tried on one test machine, if it looks good on one test machine, will it look good on all the other machines? Eventually my app is going to run on Window 7. I'll have to test that out and find out if it's still going to be a problem. Anyway, I don't feel this is the right way to do it. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about and have a soluction to it.
    Thanks very much!

  • How to deal with tiny text size on the display, especially in email?

I got a Macbook a week ago. I have been using a Windows laptop for about 5 years. Before that I had a couple of Mac desktops.
All in all I am very happy with the Macbook. I haven't had any of the problems which have come up in these forums, unexpected shutdown, bad DVD drives, etc. One thing I love about mine which I had not seen mentioned before I got it is that the Macbook (or mine anyway) is absolutely whisper quiet. I cannot hear the hard drive doing anything. My Dell laptop sounds like a construction site in comparison.
The main issue that is vexing me has to do with the high-res, small-size display. The combination of those two factors means that the text size onscreen is often so small that even with reading glasses I have serious eyestrain.
Back on my Dell this was a lot easier to deal with. In Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, there are very simple settings in the menus to make text sizes better. And this is really important -- those text sizes are remembered after you close and restart the program.
So far as I can tell, that is not true (in general) on the Mac. I find this shocking, since Apple makes such a big deal about the simplicity and usability of the Mac.
Specifically, in Safari I went into preferences and reset the fonts. A little more complicated than in Internet Explorer but it basically works alright.
With Apple Mail, though, it is really troublesome. There is no remember-able setting to increase the text size for viewing (that I can find). And the on-screen size of 12 point text in an incoming email in Apple Mail is just absurdly small. It makes me wonder if Apple is taking bribes from the American Opthalmology Association. This is going to ruin my eyesite pronto.
Of course I can hit Command-+ several times when viewing each email to increase the text size to a readable size. But what a pain.
Is there a way to make those settings rememberable?
Otherwise I like Apple Mail. But I really prefer not to have to hit 6 keystrokes when looking at each email just to get it to a reasonable size.
I looked at the help files for Mozilla Thunderbird. They seem to indicate that program works the same way.
How about Eudora? Any others? Any suggestions much appreciated.
    thanks

Hi Jeff, thanks for your careful attention and your comment.
But I have to point out you've missed what I'm talking about.
In OE, in the View menu (right on the menu bar, not under Tools>Options) there is a setting called "Text Size" which allows you to set the text size for viewing and composing (independent of sending). That makes it very easy to make the text easier to read on small screens. It does not "change the appearance of the formatted text so that it no longer corresponds to the intent of the sender". It merely makes the text bigger or smaller, like a magnifying glass.
Via email I had some back and forth today with another poster here discussing this. You might be interested to see the email he sent me in which he included both Helvetica 12 and Helvetica 14. I took a screenshot of the email he sent me (from Apple Mail). When I read this email in Apple Mail with the "Message Font" set to Arial 18 (which is the size I need it set at for readability), Helvetica 14 is displayed at a smaller size than Helvetica 12.
    screenshot here: http://www.pbase.com/paulduke/image/64910338/original
    That's weird.
Here's a test I did, and this is what really matters to me.
I sent two emails from Windows/Outlook Express. For one I set the default composing font to Arial 12. For the other I set the default composing font to Arial 18.
When I downloaded and read these emails in Apple Mail, sure enough, the Arial 18 font appears much bigger than the font in the Arial 12 mail.
Then I did the reverse. I set the "Message Font" in Apple Mail prefs to Arial 12. Sent an email.
Then I changed the "Message Font" to Arial 18 in prefs and sent another email.
Then I downloaded both these emails into Outlook Express.
On OE, font size is displayed exactly the same in both emails.
So that's good -- I know that Apple Mail, whatever the setting in "Message Font", is sending some sort of "standard" font size. (By the way, I have Apple Mail set to send Rich Text Format mail). My correspondent tells me that Apple Mail doesn't send "true" HTML mail, and Outlook Express does, so perhaps that explains this.
Okay, no big deal. But if I were a graphic designer and I wanted to know for sure that my carefully crafted email styles were getting through, I might be going bonkers because of this.
But I'm not a graphic designer, and for the moment my concerns are assuaged.
And I accept the wisdom of your advice to "go native". I'm trying, I'm trying...

  • Command for "How to find Cursor Size" in Oracle Stored Procedure"

    Hi
    Can u tell me....
How to find Cursor Size" in Oracle Stored Procedure........
    I want command for that........

why don't you try select count(*) from your_table;That requires running the same query twice - or rather running two different queries twice. Besides it still doesn't guarantee anything, because Oracle's read consistency model only applies at the statement level (unless you're running in a serialized transaction).
This is such a common requirement - users are wont to say "well Google does it" - it seems bizarre that Oracle cannot do it. The truth is that that Google cheats. Firstly it guesses the number on the basis of information in its indexes and refines the estimate as pages are returned. Secondly, Google is under no onus to kepp all its data and indexes synchronized - two simultaneous and identical queries which touch different Google servers can return different results. Oracle Text works the same way, which is why we can get a count with CTX_QUERY.COUNT_HITS in estimate mode.

  • Change text size in multiple titles

To me, iMovie's most glaring weaknesses seem to fall under its text handling abilities, despite all the glitzy swoopy things you can do.
I have several screens of rolling titles in a project and last night I decided to change the text size. It's impossible! No, you can change it, but how do you get them all the same size when iMovie doesn't give you any exact type sizes, just that stupid slider? The only way I've been able to do it so far is trial and error, and it's faster to simply recreate the titles than do that, there's so much error involved.
So I thought maybe there's a way of applying a style to multiple titles...is there?
    Thanks.

I can't speak for the old iMovie 4, but it works on iMovie 6 is you shift-select all the ones you want to change, and then apply the change.
I tried all the multiple selection things I could think of, but the problem is that iMovie 4, when you select a title, also selects the text. So even if you could apply a change to all the title clips, you would be applying the same text to each one - not gtreat. But so far I haven't been able to effect changes to multiple titles this way so they must have changed it in the later version.
What with the new bug I discovered yesterday (the audio track and the video track's visual sync is off after seven minutes, even though the two are in sync to the ear - in this case, they are FOUR friggin' seconds off! The visual representation of the audio track is ahead of where the sound is at that point even though the audio and video tracks end at the same time visually. Yeesh!) I'm thinking I need to try to find an old copy of Final Cut somewhere, one that will run on my machine. I got my iLife off Craigslist, a must for people like me with virtually no disposable income. Then again, I don't know squat about Final Cut. I just know that what's available on the Mac for video editing on the lowest spectrum really seems to be less than usable for my purposes.

  • Default text size in Compressor is too small for normal human eye

Is there any way to change the text size in Compressor 4 in the windows?  I can't find any.
The normal default text size is way too small for any normal human being eye to read clearly.
Please, have mercy on us, whoever designed the tiny fonts!   Not fair to the rest of us . . .

Well, guess we folk with not-too-good vision will simply have to keep on trucking the best we can, eh?   We can't enlarge text, so as a result we can't  use software like Compressor like the rest of the population.  Sad to say, especially with a company like Apple . . .
Yeah, well I gave the Apple Compressor Team my feedback, just like I've done the last 3 months with other things, then of course the feedback from us all melts into the either, and we never really know if anyone reads it, like they say.  Me thinks not.  This is the only feedback I'll ever get, I'm afraid:

  • Default text size for a scaling/auto field

    Hi All,
Im currently using Adobe Acrobat X Pro and am working in a PDF all written in size 10 font. I have text fields that need to be entered and scale if too much text is written. I've set the font size as 'Auto' and this scales without issue, however when the field is first entered and not yet scaled (as in, there is enough room for the text) it defaults to size 12. I'm needing this to default to size 10, and still be able to scale if too much text is entered, but I can't find any options for this. I essentially lose my ability to set the default text by setting it to 'Auto' yet it's still going to size 12 by default - how can I change this setting to size 10?
I've tried searching various forums for this answer but can never find exactly what I'm after - Any help will be appreciated.
    Joel

    Thanks for the response George.
If that's the case, would I be able to write an 'on mouse down' java script as a work around, or will these font sizes be dealt with the same. As in, if I change font size with a script to 10, will this effectively remove my 'auto' text size that allows scaling?

  • PDF Form Text Size

When I fill out a fill-able text box in a pdf form, the information for a number of boxes is longer than the space shown for the answer.  I am trying to find a way to adjust the text size with no luck, too.
How can I make sure the text provided in each text box will show when I save / print the fill-able form?

Only the creator of that form can do that.

  • How to increase/decrease text size in CS5?

I came straight from DW MX and in CS5 if I want to, for example, change the font size just for one line in an article already published, I don't see a way to do it. At the bottom under Properties, I can select "CSS" and see the font size, but it wants me to create a CSS. I have two text lines in different cells in one table, and I want them to match, and I don't want the rest of the text on the webpage to change. Yet it seems that I have to create a new CSS if I so much as breathe hard.
Is there a way to just change the text size without having to jump through all these CSS steps, which I don't like nor want?

The paradigm of web creation has completely changed and I completely feel your pain.
Nowadays, instead of saying <make this font big make this font italic make this font red>This is the big red text</end all of the make this font stuff individually>
we create a separate style sheet that has the following:
    .fontstyle-for-big-and-red {
         font: big;
         color: red;
         font: Italic;
    Then we call the style:
<class="fontstyle-for-big-and-red">This is the big red text</class>
Here is the advantage of that:
You make the definitions for the change of text once and then you can use it often in your website without needing to re-create all of those inline styles.
Web browsers load up your styles once and hold them in their cache, so your web page renders faster.
You don't have a ton of inline style stuff in your website cluttering up your content so search engines can really find what you want to talk about in your website.
With time, defining these styles makes repeated page production a snap.
Now, I will be the first to admit that there is a learning curve with all of this. And it is going to take you some time to change the way you work. But, you'll make better websites and, after you have learned all of this stuff, it will be easier for you.
Your schedule being packed, you might consider hiring someone who does know this to cut down on some of the workload while you learn this.

  • How do I change the Finder Sidebar size?

It an earlier preview build of Lion, I was able to change the Finder sidebar text size to make it smaller.  The default was too large, taking up too much real estate.  Unfortunately, I don't remember what I did to fix it.  Finder Preferences and View Options don't seem to offer any option to change the sidebar's font.
    Does anyone know?

Go to System Preferences/General and check the Sidebar Icon Size box.  Make your selection.  This controls the Mailbox sidebar and the Finder sidebar.
Previous F.A.N reply answered this for me.  I'm just adding the solution to this thread.  I couldn't easily find the way to close out this query.

  • Text size in Cover Flow in iTunes 8.1

In iTunes 8.01 if you right clicked in the Cover Flow area there was an option to increase/decrease the font size. I had mine set to quite a large size and it showed the album name on one line and the artist name on the next line.
I have installed iTunes 8.1 and the right click options are no longer available in the Cover Flow area and the size of text I had previously set is too large to fit in the Cover Flow area. All I see is the album title and about 10% of the artist on the next line.
Has anyone else had this and has anyone found a solution?
I have looked in the registry but can't find any setting that I could change.
I did think about re-installing 8.01 to reduce the text size and then re-installing 8.1, I'd rather not do that in case it messes up my library.

I have the exact same problem, I thought this new itunes 8.2 would solve it but it didn't. I'm running on Vista Home Premium with service pack 1.
