Finder tries to connect to old mac when launching migrated program

Just got a new macbook pro, and used the migration assistant to move from my old powerbook to the new machine. no problems with that at all.
Although now, when I launch Firefox, the finder pops up its file sharing dialog box looking for the old volume that Firefox USED to be on. Yesterday FF would run after i hit cancel like 500 times... today firefox never runs at all.
I trash the .app and the plists. I went to ~/app support/firefox and threw all of that away as well. i've deleted every single trace of firefox that i could possibly find.
Download new installer, install.... and the same issue as described above. Somehow my macbook associates Firefox with needing the old volume. I trashed the Finder plists also.
Any suggestions? i just can't figure out what got copied by Migration Assistant to this new machine that would be so hard to find/remove!
Any ideas?
Thanks!

This was never resolved.

  • Hi I am trying to connect a new mac to an existing time capsule but Airport Utility is just not picking it up. What am I missing?

I have tried to connect the new mac to an existing time capsule both directly through ethernet and through wifi. Both times I get Internet connection OK but Airport Utility is stuck searching for the base station. I have two existing macs which are connected fine and have both been backing up quite happily. The first two macs are the same user (me) and the new one is for a different user in the house. All the macs are running Mavericks.
I have tried rebooting the time capsule and the new mac - didn't help.
Any information as to what I can try would be most welcome.
    Many thanks

    Hi All
I have solved my problem! It was the old chestnut the firewall issue. We have McAfee firewalls on our machines and the wifi network was set up as a public rather than a home network. I changed it to Home or Work and het presto the time capsule appeared. I didn't have this problem with the other machines at all.
    I hope this helps someone!!

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.

Did you run it completely out of battery? If so it might take up to ten minutes for it to come back to life and look like it is charging. Keep it on the charger for at least an hour before trying to sync back to the computer.

  • I'm trying to transfer my iPhoto library to a new mac and I can't find the library on my old mac.

When I "revel in finder" a photo in my iPhoto app on my old mac, it shows the path: hard drive, user, meghanica, library, iphoto library and so on. BUT when I go to my hard drive and try to follow that path on my laptop, there is no "library" folder to open in meghanica. I have tried to spolight the library folder with no luck. All of my photos that I've looked at in iPhoto show this path. I can't figure out why when I go to my hard drive, it's not there. Any ideas? I'm using updated iPhoto '11 on os x Lion on a macbook pro. Thanks!

It sounds like the library might have been placed in your Home/Library folder which is invisible.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
When you find the iPhoto library move it to your Pictures folder.

  • Mac keeps trying to connect to a server when opening excel

i worked for a week at a production house and they had me log into their server to access files that we all used.  obviously i forgot to eject their server before i left and instead just closed my computer and left.  now, since Lion makes all documents that were left open restore automatically my mac keeps trying to load a spreadsheet that i was reading off the server but obviously i'm not connected to said server anymore.  and i won't ever again.
how can i stop my mac from trying to connect to this server?  also, is there a way to stop Lion from auto restoring?
    thanks, all!

Well, I was hoping that if you remove all traces of recently opened documents to resume and you disable the resume, then Excel would not try any longer to connect to the server.
One more question: is Excel trying to reach the server when you start your system or when you launch Excel?
If it happens at start up, then have a look, if Excel has been added to the start up items (System preferences -> accounts -> your account -> start up items) and remove it.
Quit Excel (with Option + Command + Q) if it is open and remove the loginwindow preferences: Navigate to Library > Preferences > ByHost > com.apple.loginwindow.[xxxxxxxxx].plist
The [xxxxxxxx] represent some interminable string of numbers and letters.
If it happens at launch time, move the Excel preference file to the Desktop before you launch Excel. The file is locate here:
    /Users/your user name/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Excel.plist.
If you keep your Library hidden, as it is by default, go to the System preference folder from the Finder menu: Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder (Or shift-cmd-G) and enter
    "/Users/your user name/Library/Preferences"
    Good luck

  • "Connection Failed" when trying to connect to another Mac on my wireless network.

    Hi,
I am having an intermittent problem with the connectivity between my iMac and Mac Pro - the latter is the media server for our house. Occasionally my Apple TV's seem to lose connectivity to the Mac Pro too which is a real pain. Both Macs are running Mavericks and the Apple TVs are running the latest software too.
If I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder on my iMac, the Mac Pro is there but when I click on it I get "Connection Failed". Rebooting both computers seems to fix the problem but is far from ideal when mid way through a film!
The messages in console on my iMac when I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder is:
    14/03/2014 10:20:33.542 sharingd[253]: SDSharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned -5999
14/03/2014 10:23:34.180 locationd[82]: could not open write stream for /var/db/locationd/clients.plist
I'm not sure if this provides a clue?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Rob

I've managed to connect OK using Connect as. So at least that part is solved. I will see if I can get any diagnostics as to why the Apple TV drops out.

  • Enter your name and password for the server when trying to connect PC and Mac?

I'm trying to connect my iMac and my WIndows tablet (got it for free) together through my home network.  I open iPhoto, then "Import to Library" ; the connection fails and when I click on "Connect as" up pops this box asking me to "enter your name and password for the server -computer name here-". HELP!!  Where do I find the password?  I've tried everything possible and no go.
I am running Windows 8 and Lion.

Hi Tom! Welcome to the Apple discussions. You have posted in the forum dedicated to the application Appleworks. Your question is better to post in the forum for MacOs 10.6. In that forum you have several sub-forums to choose from.

  • My iMac tries to connect to old network startup

    Greetings,
When I start up, I receive a message that my computer is trying to connect to the my old iMac, the one that I used with Migration Assistant to transfer files and such. That computer is no longer around, but the new one always searches for it.
I have looked in Startup items, Airport preferences, recent servers in the Connect to Server part of the Finder, and found that there is an icon for "Network Startup" with a ? that I assume is the culprit. However, there is no obvious way to delete or cancel this.
I checked the following discussion threads for answers:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/13272616#13272616
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/5317530#5317530
There were many useful suggestions, but so far no luck. There might be more out there, but I have been looking for a while now.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ken

Look in System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options > See if there is a Network Account Server defined.  If so, remove.
Sounds like it's looking for a remote boot option.

  • MacBook Air keeps trying to connect to old server

My new MacBook Air, just like its predecessor iBook, keeps trying to connect to an old server which I am not using (having moved to a different continent!). I have tried deleting it using Finder - Go - Conneact to Server, but it persists. It flashes up the error messaage: "There was a problem connecting to the server XXX. The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again." I have done all this, but it makes no difference. Can you help please? I use a Time Capsule as my router, with an AirPort Express booster in another room, and my main iMac desktop does not have this problem. The old network was in use in the UK, and I will want to connect to it there when I visit from time to time.
    Many thanks
    John

Check the Login Items in the Users & Groups section of system Preferences for a reference to this old server. If it is there highlight it and click the Minus ( - ) button.

  • Macbook pro trying to connect to wrong mac address?

    Hey everyone,
    I'm running on a 2010 Macbook Pro OS X 10.7.2.
Basically, my 309g-m stopped working the other day. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and software, but it still refuses to print (I get stuck at "looking for printer"). I have, however, noticed that when I'm adding a printer in system preferences, the printer is listed as "Photosmart Premium C309g-m [F1EDA7]." However, after connecting my printer to my network (via the printer), the page printed listed that my Hardware Address (MAC) is "78:e7:d1:f1:ed:a8" - So I think my Macbook is trying to connect to the wrong mac address.
    Any ideas?
P.S. I've tried to connect via IP and my computer cannot find the printer.

No, that all looks good.  Your printer's unique "name" is HP plus the last 6 digits of your printer's MAC address.
On the front of the printer: Setup > Network > WIreless Network Test.  What does it say about the printer's wireless radio?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • MB Pro tries to connect to Time Capsule when away from home network resulting in annoying error message - how do I fix this?

I have a 13" MB Pro late 2011 model running Mountain Lion with 2.5 ghz and 8 GB ram. I have a TC setup at home as wireless network and my phones, ipads, PCs, and MB Pro all connect to it with no problem. The problem is when I leave home and connect to another wireless network my MB Pro tries to connect to the TC about every 15 seconds and a message pops up saying it could not connect to the server "Time Capsule" and it forces me to click ok. As you can imagine, clicking ok every 15 seconds makes it impossible to use the computer. I have tried turning off time machine but it makes no difference.
I have tried to read other posts and could not find the answer. Only reason I state this is because I once asked a question and there was another post out there and several got mad at me. I'm just trying to figure this out. Any help is greatly appreciated.

edex67 suggested that you check Login Items.
You told us that you checked Login Options.
    Try checking Login Items.

  • EMC "On-Premises" is trying to connect to old server

A bit of background on this problem. I installed Exchange Server 2010 on a server. Then uninstalled it. Renamed the server and changed IP address and reinstalled Exchange 2010. When I open the Management Console the "Microsoft Exchange On-premises Server"
fails to initialize because it is trying to connect to the server under the old name. The start of the error states: "The attempt to connect to http://<old-servername>/PowerShell using 'Kerberos' authentication failed:" I was able to add New-server
to Exchange forest in EMC and it works. However I don't have access to all the tools. Powershell also works fine and automatically connects to New-ServerName.
Has anyone else had this problem or know where the settings for EMC reside so I can get it out of there?

Deleting the following registry value fixes this issue. it forces EMC to rediscover the Exchange Org
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Exchangeserver\v14\AdminTools\NodeStructureSettings
    Only delete the value “NodeStructureSettings“
