Finder window in Mac OS 10.5

Hey,
I want to get a Mac (I am using windows) and i need to know about how the Shared Devices tab works. I know that it picks up PC's / Macs on the local network but I have a Tera-Station connected directly to my router and want to know if Mac picks it up (Its a Buffallo Tera-Station).
Any help will be great

  • Finder window on Mac won't scroll horizontally in Muse

I noticed that anytime I open a finder window through Muse (i.e. replace image), the finder window's scroll bar only scrolls so far.   I have to resize the window to view other columns.   This appears to be a new bug, as it was working normally in the release prior.  Anyone else seeing this?

I don't use Muse. It works for me in Illustrator Creative Cloud.
I am attaching my before and after screenshots so you can see how the preview changed.
Not sure what you mean by "which scaling is used".
Before: You can see that the file preview is stuck. I can't scroll horizontally to see any more of the preview.
After: The file preview icon is resized after clicking and dragging on the column divider while holding down the alt key.

  • How do I keep my new finder window preference set to open a certain folder on the server?

Since switching to Lion, my new finder window preference keeps resetting itself to default. When I open a new finder window I want it to be a certain folder on our server. This setting was persistent in Snow Leopard. Now I have to keep setting it back, sometimes more than once a day. Please help, its very time consuming to have to click through to get to the folder I use most often every time I open a finder window.

Enabling thirds-party cookies is the default and if there aren't any other changes made then Firefox will show "Remember History"
Choosing the "Use custom settings for history" setting doesn't make any changes.<br />
If Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting then that is an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings are not the default to make you aware that changes were If all History settings are default then you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History" and the custom settings are hidden.<br />

  • Unable to print finder window

Back in the days of MACOS 7, 8 and 9.0 operating systems, one could print any finder window (dailogue box) by simply holding down the "apple" key and hitting "p".
How can I print finder windows with Mac OSX? I want to make lists of what is in certain folders.
    Thanks.

Not like it used to be, but still possible.
    1) Drag the folder to any printer icon (Printer Setup, a Desktop printer or a printer in the Printer Setup list, for example)
    2) Get the free utility Print Window (www.versiontracker.com)
    3) Drag the folder to the free Text Wrangler for a better hierarchical view, then print.

  • "File, Find, Searching "This Mac" or "New Finder Window" not finding files ?

    I an iMac 7,1, Mac OS X 10.6.8, Build 10K549,
I have noticed on many occasions recently that when I ma using either ...
    File, Find, Searching "This Mac"
    or
    "New Finder Window"
I am NOT finding the files I am looking for ...
I now they are there, so I go through all my folders, and find the files, or folders I am looking for ...
So why could this be happening, why are they not found in the search ?
Is there a fix or addition ?

As baltwo eventually explained, you have to add the search criteria "System files" to your search, with the option "Include" selected, to find many items Spotlight otherwise excludes from search results. Alternately (& quite ridiculously), if your search is restricted to the parent folder containing the item, you don't need to add this.
For example, if you open /Library in the Finder, enter "Desktop Pictures" in the search box, you won't get it in the results with the default "This Mac" location, but if you click "Library" for the location, you will. (Yes, many users think this is bizarre, "what were they thinking?" behavior.)
What Spotlight considers "system files" is only slightly less bizarre, as you will probably discover once you start using it to broaden searches. For instance, Safari history items & Mail.app messages are not found unless you include system files, but many files like C Header Source files (in System/Library/Frameworks) are found without including system files in the search.
When it was introduced in Tiger, Spotlight was supposed to be a next-generation search engine, capable of accurately guessing what you were looking for (& filtering out what you weren't) with near-sentient intelligence. I think almost anyone who used that version will agree it did not achieve that lofty goal. Apple apparently agreed, or at least listened to the complaints enough to realize it needed rethinking. Unfortunately, what its designers came up with for the Leopard rethink feels like an early beta version, full of hastily implemented, quirky features that never got sorted out before it was released.
We can only hope that we won't have to wait for OS 10.6 for a more mature, less quirky version.

  • Mac Book Pro; Migration Assistant, Finder Windows have ? Mark Next to Search

I just bought a Mac Book Pro this weekend.  I used Migration assistant and transferred everything from my Mac Book (intel core duo running Lion 10.7.3) to the Pro. I upgraded the Mac Book to Lion via the App Store prior to getting the Mac Book Pro.   Had some problems migrating, but everything transferred (finally).  Now I see a ? mark in all my finder windows adjacent.  When I click on the question mark it says "The item cannot be found."
Applications (except those that are not supported in Lion) appear to be working fine, as well as any document files I transferred.
I repaired permissions, but the problem remains.
It is more of a "preception concern" then a real problem.  I just would like to see it disappear because it is disconcerting.
    Thanks

I had the same problem, I solved it by turning off the firewall on both the PC and my MacBook Pro. It worked immediately after that. Hope that solves your problem too.

  • 'save as' finder window settings and size (on mac)

    Hi there ~
Whenever saving/downloading any type of file from any firefox tab, and the 'save as' window opens and I choose where I want the file to be downloaded to, the finder window columns are really tight and narrow, cutting off the folder names so I constantly have to stretch out that first column so I can see the folder names .. this only happens in firefox and the finder window is always squooshed, even if I adjust it and then close/relaunch firefox .. how can I permanently set the finder window settings to avoid having to manually adjust it each time?
    thanks

Probably not the only one... the OS 9 Finder way did slow things down a bit. But it may be a helpful feature for some. Best if you could activate or not. You can file a feature request here Mac OS X Feedback

  • Why are files viewed in Bridge a lot brighter than Mac Finder window?

Why do my camera raw files appear a lot brighter when viewed in Adobe Bridge than when viewed in the Mac Finder Window?  Like a lot brighter.  I'm not really sure which is the 'correct' brightness. Thanks!

    No one?
Bridge shows the raw files according to the settings you have applied in ACR or if you have not applied any it shows the default ACR settings. The finder uses the embedded jpeg preview to show the contents of the raw file.
Without a screenshot it is hard to judge your situation but also check your Camera Raw settings (under Adobe Bridge menu see camera raw prefs) and in the default image settings be sure to have the option 'apply auto tone adjustments' unchecked.

  • Organise Events into 3 columns like Mac finder window?

Is there a way to add more "years" to the Events list or is that dependent completely on the dates listed on the import tapes?
Is there a better way to organise 10 years of family viewing? Can I arrange a "column" tree like the Mac finder window?
I want to have 10 years of viewing with Year 1998 as the "first column", then month, then event name in that month. Anyway to have at least 3 "columns" of event order?

I forgot to mention, I know about the iMovie "Month" view that effectively adds a "middle column" so that it view by year, by month, and then by event... I guess what I was asking is whether or not there is a way to over-ride the pre-set date on a clip? Because I have about 3 years of footage from an older camera technology that was imported under the wrong date.
Or if there is another 3 column way to organise events... or what I should do?

  • Find/replace window in Mac OS - how to attach to main document window?

At work I use Windows and the find/replace window is part of the main document window. At home, I use Mac OS and the find/replace window is a separate floating window which is annoying because it means I'm constantly dragging it out of my way...is there a way to attach it to the the main document window on Mac ?

It works!  Thank you.  The strange thing is, I already had a check mark on it, but I unchecked it and then rechecked it and it worked.
BTW, I've not visited this forum for quite a while.  It was difficult to find my way to the InDesign Discussions.  There's so much stuff in between logging on to Adobe Forums and getting to this location.  I consider the changes a huge step backward.  I realize that you're probably not involved in it, but I hope someone who is sees this feedback about the forum layout.  Fortunately, it's only a one-time problem.  I've made a new bookmark for this forum.

  • Re: Pre-positioned finder windows get moved automatically!    Mac OS » Ma

Re: Pre-positioned finder windows get moved automatically! (Mac OS » Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard » Finder and Dock, Sep 19, 2009 11:23 PM)
I could not find my original post to add this to.
I have discovered that CONTROL-Command-O will open a pre-positioned window in place while closing its parent. (I think it was Option-Command-O previously.) If you are working in folders within folders, you will need to move the topmost window slightly to the side to allow the first level to open in pre-positioned place.
Has anyone discovered the procedure to go back up to the top level -- with key strokes or without -- while keeping the original position of the higher up window?
Is there a way to open an enclosed folder in place without having to close the parent?

Is there a way to open an enclosed folder in place without having to close the parent?
Not sure you can get there from here
Double-clicking will open an enclosed Folder in place, in step fashion....all you need to do to move back is to either click 'Back' in the menu bar of that window.
Double-click on the parent folder in the icon row along the bottom of that window to move back to it or any higher level folder to the left.
If you hold the command key and click once on the icon in the top center of that window's upper margin, you will see a vertical list of any parent folders in order (top most at the bottom)...click on one to move to it.
As you can see, 'back' here is thus defined at least three ways: back, left & down. While it can be distracting to some people who may prefer what at least appears to be a more structured environment, the goal is to provide choices so that the OS appears to provide flexibility rather than being hardwired/inflexible. Don't let the number of choices confuse you - find a style that suits your flow and be happy.
If you want to peer into some of the thinking behind Apple software, you would do well to invest time (and I don't mean just a quick glance) in reading the 'Apple Human Interface Guidelines' at this link...

  • Mac OS Finder window opens at login

Everytime I login to my account the Mac OS Finder window opens even if I've unchecked "Reopen windows when loging back in".
I'm not overly bothered by this, it's more of a nuisance than anything, but if there's a way to stop it from opening itself then that'd be great.
