Finder Window Launchs after Login.

Need to figure out why Finder launches window immediately after Log-on. Desktop appears briefly then Finder window opens to Macintosh HD.
Doesn't hurt anything just irritating have to close Finder Window after every Start-up and/or Log-on.
Ideas appreciated!
Thanx

Hi,
Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab.
And go to /Library/Startup Items.
Might be something in the Login Items or Startup Items that requires the Finder.
If not, go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the *com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) represents your Home folder.
Restart your Mac.

    Hi adil,
For your issue, you can create a custom security token service (STS) and then set up a trust relationship between a SharePoint 2010 farm and the custom STS.

  • Finder window persisting after TM browser Cancelled

I'm curious to know if people find the Finder window persisting annoying after Cancelling the TM browser ?
I quite frequently review files within the TM browser. Sometimes I will restore a file or two or simply browse etc. When I'm finished and Cancel a Finder window always sits on my display and I have to quit it. This extra action is a real time waster for me and I wish this Finder window wouldn't persist as I have no good reason to use it for anything.
Do others feel the same way ?
I'm thinking of sending an enhancement request to Apple to have this persistent Finder window not show after cancelling out of TM browser.
    Thanks...

Would you please explain the reason why you think this Finder window is useful.
I'm not wanting to have to maintain yet another work-around for something that appears to me as an oversight in the TM browser's Cancel process. During my TM beta testing this Finder window did not persist as it does with the Leopard GM and so I'm assuming it was either designed to be useful or was somehow forgotten to be removed.
    Thanks...

  • Mac OS Finder window opens at login

Everytime I login to my account the Mac OS Finder window opens even if I've unchecked "Reopen windows when loging back in".
I'm not overly bothered by this, it's more of a nuisance than anything, but if there's a way to stop it from opening itself then that'd be great.
    I'm running a Mid-2009 15" MacBook Pro (upgraded to 8GB RAM) with Mac OS X Lion (10.7.2)

The only thing I could think of is it being "Steam"..?

  • Finder window issues after ML upgrade

I have noticed a couple of funnies since upgrading to Mtn Lion from Snow Leopard, and wondered about them.
    1.  No flippy triangles appear in the Finder List View for Applications or Documents.  They appear in sub-folders of these, and also Downloads, Home Folder, etc.
    2.  If, in Applications or Documents, I press the right arrow key (which is the keyboard equivalent of pressing the flippy triangle if there were one), I get a new folder opening directly below with a name such as "Other" or "Name".  If I move to this new folder and press the arrow key again, the contents of the original folder are listed - all without any indentation - which is very confusing to read.  If I try to trash the new folder, I get an error messaage Error Code -5058.  If I close the Finder window and reopen it, the new folder and its sub-contents have disappeared and all is normal again.     Right Arrow key operation in other folder list views is OK.
    3.  The "Date Added" for all of my Applications shows as the date and time I did the ML upgrade, not when the App was originally added.  Date Added fields in all other windows are blank.  I would expect all of these to respect the original dates.
    And I am only up to page 50 of "The Missing Manual" . . . . . .
Has anybody else seen these or similar things, and would I expect to see them fixed in an up-issue?
    Thanks.

I connected a external harddisk to my iMac and did a complete backup and it worked perfect. I tried my Timecapsule again, but the same problem again, so I deleted my Timecapsuledisk and did a new full backup, and now it works fine. Fseventd is now at a normal state too.
After this, I moved my Timecapsule to its usual place and connected my other external hardisk to it and made them both as Timemachine backupdisks. Timecapsule went fine, but the other harddisk started to do a full backup again, strange, and it takes about 17 hours to do it via WiFi. But I just let it work and see how it goes. Can anyone tell me why it does a full backup again just because I have connected it via Timecapsule?
Right now, my Finder works better, but I will wait until the full backup is finnished before I do some tests.
I have also made a verification and repair of both harddisks with Disktool, it reported a fault in my Timecapsule harddisk before I did the full backup..

  • Network drives open finder windows at every login?

I just created a network drive and set it up so that when I log into my machine it should connect/mount the network drive.   However, now every time I log in it opens a finder window to that drive.    Mavericks appears to do the same thing on my macbook.     Just curious if there are any solutions to stop this from happening but still mount the drive.  I did find some older suggestions to fix the issue but none of them so far have worked.
    Thanks

    nevermind, fixed itself, i guess

  • Removing icons from Finder window sidebar after 10.6.7

Not a major calamity, but since upgrading to 10.6.7 I don't seem to be able to drag icons off the Finder window sidebar to remove them. In earlier versions of SL they would disappear in a small puff of smoke.
Right-clicking and contextual menu command does work though to delete the icons. Two machines - 24" and 27" iMacs, no exotic third-party software.
Curious if anybody else has seen this or if there's a fix?

Use command-drag, changed in latest update credit to I forget who.
    EDIT Link Davis, it was!

  • Finder window unresponsive after a search on external drive.

    Hi guys,
I have an odd problem. I have an external HD full of music and whenever I want to play one, I just search for it in finder and drag&drop it to iTunes. However, I'm having issues with it on my new MacBook Air. Whenever I search the drive for files, they appear normally, but I can't drag them! Highlighing works OK, so does double-clicking or cmd+O, but I can't move them to a playlist. It's the same with any files, not just .mp3s - they cannot be dragged out of the finder window. Scrolling is also wonky, but moving between files using arrows works fine.
Please note that this works perfectly fine when searching the computer's HD.
Is this a glitch of some sort, or is the computer preventing me from doing it for some reason? Any explanation/fix? I'm running 10.9.3 with all the updates; the HD is a 1TB Transcend, ExFAT formatted.
    Thanks!

How much space do you have on the Air? Most Air users do not have the space to keep a big iTunes Library on the internal drive.
They would still be on one place on the external drive. When you get a new mp3 import into iTunes and it will be saved on the external drive.
I'm not a cross platform users so not sure what the issue is with copying the data.

  • Finder keeps opening after login

    Hi everyone,
I have encountered this little issue with Finder after installing the latest update. ie. Mac OS X 10.9.1
Finder keeps opening after loging in. Is this normal?

Looking at the logs, a pattern emerges. In the ~User/Library/Logs/CrashReporter folder, Finder, Dock & quicklookd processes are crashing several times a minute. All of them are crashing on a com.apple.RawCamera.bundle thread, as displayed below.
Is it safe to just delete this bundle off my workstation? Shouldn't that cure the problem?

  • After Installing Leopard Finder Crashes directly after Login

    Hi,
i Installed Leopard on my MacBook Core 2 Dual. After install the Macbook worked fine for a while (ca. 30 Minutes) then it crashed and asked me to reboot by pressing the power on key a while. But after restart and login it crashes again, and again, and again.
So i tried booting in save mode ... (pressing shift while boot) ... now i can login, but what now?
I started to look around in the system and step by step deinstall every app that may interfere with leopard. But no success up to now. Each time i boot normally it crashes again.
Does anybody else had the same problem ?
And maybe found what's causing this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

OK, its coming up now ...
    deinstalled:
    VMWare Fusion
    NDAS Driver
    Little Snitch 2.0 beta 10
    3D Desktop Aquarium ScreenSaver
    collection of plasq Screensavers
    ToasterClone Screensaver
    Parallels Extensions from StartupItems Folder
not an idea at the moment which of them was the bad guy,
    but i will find out
@Sebastian try disabling those above if you have installed ones of them an come back posting if that helped

  • Finder not launching after using Docker

Hey there, this morning i made a really stupid move, I was looking for ways to customise my dock, then I found docker, after playing around with the settings for a bit, I kept getting error messages saying 'Finder Quit unexpectidly' each time i close it, it just repeats and wont go awa
    How can I fix it?

I can confirm this issue. I've upgraded from 10.7.5 and Docker was installed and functional in that version.
After Mavericks installation, Docker was still functional and so was finder, but after trying to change the settings in Docker, Finder started crashing. Some settings changes in Docker weren't saved / applied so the next step was to check the disk for permission problems. The disk utility found some issues in Finder's paths. I've tried resetting Docker to defaults and removing / re-installing it, but the problem with Finder persisted.
IMHO, this is a bug overlook by Apple devs. Its Finder stability and settings affected here, don't ask me why.
Can anyone suggest a better way to workaround this issue? (as I've already uninstalled Docker while not in safe mode and now have nothing left to uninstall). Also, OP, did that method work for you?
    Thanks,
    ASP

  • When looking for a document, there used to be a "Today" tab on the left side of the Finder window. After updating my computer with the most recent update (I think it was Mountain Lion, but I could be wrong...), the "Today" tab seems to have disappeared.

I really prefer using the "Today" tab instead of the "All My Files" tab, because it loads much faster and only shows me the documents that I want to see. Is there any possible way to get the "Today" tab back?

In Finder, go command - F. On the top left set "Kind" to Date Created, finish selecting the criteria and hot "Save" on the top right. You'll get a new smart folder with an option to add it to the sidebar.

  • Finder window opens on startup - alternate cause

I just had this problem come up, and it took quite a lot of digging to find out why. I thought I would post the cause of my particular problem and it's solution as a reference for others who have been unsuccessful at stopping a finder window from loading at startup.
For reference, here's what I tried that didn't work:
    - Looked for the Finder listed in Preferences>Accounts>Login Items (wasn't there)
    - Deleted User>Library>Preferences>com.apple.Finder.plist, restarted the dock, restarted computer.
    - Changed background wallpaper (some said this worked for them)
I noticed in the Login Items something called "gstlauncherdaemon". As it turns out, this is part of the GimmeSomeTunes app. It causes the app to start when iTunes is launched. Well, apparently, it's also causing a Finder window to open on startup. You can disable this feature in the GimmeSomeTunes preferences. Personally I wanted to keep this feature, but couldn't stand the window. So I deleted the app and it's associated .plist file with AppZapper. The "gstlauncherdaemon" is no longer listed under Login Items and no window showed up on restart.
Hope this helps some who have been going mad over this like me. So if you've recently installed this app and are having a similar problem, it may very well be the culprit.

thanks for sharing this. I've seen a number of posts by people struggling (unsuccessfully) with a finder window opening at login. I don't know if any of them use GimmeSomeTunes but this is certainly something to consider.

  • Finder/Window-Content not responding to changes and doesn't refresh

    Hi,
i have a very strange Problem with the Finder since i upgraded to 10.6.4. The Finder doesn't react to changes from certain Applications.
I noticed the effect in the Folder 'Downloads', f.e. if i try to download a file. Usually two files appear, the intended file with 0 kB and another temporary file. After the download is complete the temporary file will be deleted and only one file remains.
Usually the whole process is visible and shown in the finder window. After the update it isn't which means that if i download a file, the Window content does not reflect the changes and the new files are not shown, even after the download is complete. To see the new files i have to trigger a change, either by creating a new folder or by changing the location (moving up a level).
Interesting enough this only happens with certain Applications like Firefox or 'the Unarchiever' (a compression tool). If i download a file with Safari the temporary files and the downloaded files are shown in the window content without manually triggering a change. If i use 'keka' (another compression tool) the changes are also immediatly shown.
In order to narrow down possible errors i have taken different approaches:
    a) i intently scanned and watched the console and read all error reports. There are no errors shown (with firefox or the unarchiever).
    b) I created a new user profile and the effects are the same.
    c) i ran 'disk utilities' and scanned the Access priviliges. Apart from the common problem within /system/java/... there are no problems
    d) i ran 'onxy' to clean the user and system cache. I rebuild the LaunchService Database.
    I didn't fix my Problem.
That leads me to conclude that the problem is located in some system-function which is correctly triggered by some applications and apparently not by others.
    My Questions:
    1. Does anyone else has this problem and possibly a fix?
    2. Does anyone know how the finder is triggered by applications in order to refresh a window?
    tia,
    jc

    Hi Jeanclaude,
You've described the problem well and took some excellent troubleshooting steps
    b) When you created the new profile, were you still engaging your third party apps, or are they installed in log-in items?
    1. It would be interesting to try a Safe Mode startup (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
2 If step 1 doesn't turn up anything, re-install from your 10.6.x install disk (10.6 has the ability to "install in place" without touching anything other than system specific files.) Just pop in the disk, double-click and follow the prompts. Remember to uncheck language localizations if you don't use them & Printers except the one/ones you use.
Let us know your results after these 2 steps.
