Finder Window Pop-Up
Ok, so there was this application I've never used but it keeps saying "You do not have permission to use the application "uHD-uninstall-Agent".....and so forth. I click Ok but the pop up keeps popping up and interrupting everything I do. I went to login items to remove it from startup but it still won't stop. I need help and unfortunately this is a school laptop so I cannot control admin.
The school's IT staff will have to solve the problem.

Can not upload anything when Finder window pops up on Mavericks
Running Mavericks here and just can not upload anything anymore on Facebook for example, it also happens on other webpages too where the finder window pops up to select a file to upload. The browser freezes and I have to force quit it, tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox... all the same, this leads me to believe it's a Finde issue. Don't know what to do! Bellow the crash report:

I finally found this article which helped but when I completely quit Firefox i continue to get the error. I then go back in, double-click to toggle from false to true again, quit Firefox and the problem goes away again. I do not understand anything further to this problem and do not want to continue to repeat this process every time I quite Firefox. Any suggestions or other help?

New Document is one click in the lower left of the opening window! You could write an AppleScript to avoid that one click, but that may not be worth the candle.
Note that after that one click you can save an additional click by specifying 'Use template:<your chosen template>' instead of 'Show Template Chooser' in Numbers > Preferences > General.

Desktop always opens as Finder Window - PPC
Hi all,
This is a strange one and kind of hard to explain.
I'll just start out by saying it only happens on my G5 PPC running 10.5.x
Some background: I always have "open safe files" in Safari turned off and all files are downloaded to the "Downloads" folder.
Anyway, when I double-click to extract a zipped file, either from within the downloads folder or from the Safari download list, a new Finder window pops up containing the contents of the extracted file and the Desktop. Basically the entire Desktop opens as a Finder window.
This behaviour doesn't happen on Intel machines - just the G5.
What would be causing it?I'm sorry for retreading this topic again. I assure you I searched for this issue on the forums and googled for it extensively (but obviously not enough) and didn't find anything. I only found about it as I installed my first AirDisk and thought this particular behavior was neither elegant nor useful.
I fear that Apple will not restore this the way of 10.5.7 since a lot of updates have come and go and this issue remains.

Finder dock icon does not open a Finder window when a file is dragged onto it
In Snow Leopard and Lion, when you dragged a file onto the Finder dock icon, a Finder window popped open and you could then navigate to where you wished to place the file.
In Mountain Lion, this behaviour has changed. Now either nothing happens, or Mission Control Expose kicks in with a blank screen since there are no Finder windows already open to show.
Is this just my install or does everyone find this annoying removal-of a-useful-feature behaviour change? Seems like a mistake to me.I never knew the feature existed, so I don't miss it. It also isn't something I'd use in my normal workflow.
However, it is disconcerting to lose functionality that was useful to you.

.prefpane files not working. opens finder window instead of time/date
I just recently acquired a quick silver g4 with 10.2 OS X... after running much needed updates, My computer had lost file associations. For instance, I tried to put in a key for quicktime but when i clicked on preferences a finder window popped up instead of what i needed... then when i wanted to adjust my clock the same thing happened. Also there is a red circle that looks like an error when i look at the thumbnail icon for my desktop when im in the finder window. Is this an easy fix? PLEASE HELP!
G5 Dual 2.3 w/ 4.5 gb RAM, G5 Dual 2gig w/ 4.5 gb of RAM, G4 Dual 1.25 w/ 1.5 gb Mac OS X (10.4.5)Also have this problem. We also used to point our java app shortcuts to the system32 or syswow64, but with Java 8 this is no longer an option. Updating shortcuts every time there is a new java version is unrealistic. Similar to Jeff, the symlinks in the ProgramData folder don't seem to work.

How can I prevent finder from popping up when switching spaces
When you switch between spaces with control + arrow keys the finder window in that space becomes the active window. I'd like the order of my windows to remain the same so that I can use several spaces for different sets of apps without the finder window popping up every time I change spaces. One way to fix this is to hide the finder window with cmd+m, is there another alternative?
Hi Timc, I tried restoring the default, didn't work tried making google as my home page didn't work. cleared my cookies & chache didn't work. I am attaching an image of what comes up when I open Firefox it opens in a new tab. I tried clicking both buttons on the bottom didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

When my most front window is a safari one and I use the shortcut key "Command N", it opens a new finder window and a new safari window at the same time. Why does it happen?

Open the General tab of the Safari preferences and correct the home page; the default page is this one. If it has become set to a folder on an FTP server or a local drive, that request will be sent to the Finder. (28252)

Image Capture ALWAYS opens Desktop Finder Window - Annoying!

I've just bought a Lexar Firewire reader for my Comact Flash cards - it's excellent! However, I've set the options in Image Capture to import all files automatically, and delete them from the card after import. This works perfectly - except for one problem:
Whenever I import the files, I get a Finder window pop up after the transfer - showing me the Desktop, and all the files on it.
Anyone got idea's how to stop this annoying window popping up every time?
Thanks!Image Capture is not third party software. Image Capture is installed on every Mac, and it's an excellent way to move pics from your cards to the Mac for those who don't want to use iPhoto, especially as iPhoto will only recognise cameras/cards attached by USB and not Firewire. As to the core problem, sorry I have no idea except that IC is trying to show you the pics location after completing its task.

Finder window keeps opening up and popping up in front of all windows
Every minute or so a finder window opens and pops up in front of all open window - including the window I am working in (no matter which application). It does not even open to my regular finder - it opens to a sub folder that is on the sidebar as a shortcut. Might have started after security update that was not necessarily completed because after 6 hours I tried to cancel, then force quit, it wouldn't work, so I forced the computer to restart.

Finder window keeps popping out when booting up the computer
Lately I've noticed whenever I shut down the computer with the "Reopen windows when logging back in" uncheck, this Finder window will pop out the next time I startup the computer. Still new to Apple and am not sure any settings that I may have set before this.
I just want a clear desktop when I boot up the computer and not greeted by this system Finder window.Finder does not obey the rules of the 'Reopen windows' dialogue box. It will reopen any Finder window that was not closed when you shutdown. This was also true in Snow Leopard and isn't part of the 'Resume' feature itself.
The only way to not see that window when you restart is to close it before you shutdown! -
I've recently upgraded to Lightroom5.7.1 and now when I try to import photos a window pops up saying 'the photos can't be imported 'cos the files can't be read'. I had no problems before upgrading. I have Windows8 & can't find any 'app' which sets the type of files I can import. Any help appreciated.
Well, think about it. This is a Lightroom forum. We are here to answer questions about Lightroom and how to solve problems in Lightroom. Your permissions issue is an operating system issue, not a Lightroom issue. I didn't mean to be sarcastic. But there are plenty of Internet resources that will answer that question.
I just went to Google and typed in "change disk permissions", and there are links for the Mac as well as for Windows listed. There's no sense in me rewriting instructions that are already available. -
I recently used an external hard drive to back up photos etc from my mac, I didn't do a full system back up. Since then a finder window titled 'client node' keeps popping up every time i hit the spacebar. Can anyone help me please stop this happening?
Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired, or install software such as Paragon NTFS on the computer.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it; this may also happen for a flash drive which is about to fail.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.

Attaching files from Safari and FF- Finder window takes forever to pop up
Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange problem with my Finder. When I am in Safari or FF (Using 10.6.3) and I click the button to select a file to upload on any website, it take the finder window about 20-30 seconds to pop up. This happens every time I want to navigate to select a file. I get the spinning beach ball and the Finder window finally pops up generally 20 seconds later. I checked this in another user account on my machine and it has the same problem. I don't think it's a Safari or FF problem, as it's doing it in both browsers---anyone have any idea why it would take forever for the Finder selection window to pop up?HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
The tilde "~" character represents your home folder.
Since the problem happens in more then account I'm not sure if trashing the .plist file will help but won't hurt to try.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

Try repairing disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

On my 2009 Mac Pro, 10.7.5 upon startup, restore windows... window is flashing with finder icon popping in and out of dock. computer will not allow any selection. I'm hoping someone may know a solution.
