Finder Window Remembering Last Position?

Sometimes when i am working and in say Photoshop or Dreamweaver and i go to find an image from a folder i move through them until i find it.
A few moments later i might need to find something else in that folder.
Is there any way to make finder remember the last folder i was in, via maybe an app?
As sometimes the folder i need to get to is buried in multiple ones.
The only quickest way i can find is to put the folder i am working in into the places areas of the finder window.
I know from the drop down it lists recent places, but only remembers certain instances and not this one...

  • ITunes forgetting "Remember Last Position" setting

    Hi, first post
Have a problem with iTunes that's only started happening recently. I have put some audiobooks into iTunes, selected them all, right click, Get Info, and tick "Remember Last Position" and "Skip When Shuffling". Click OK, then if I immediately go back into "Get Info" and look again, they've gone back to their default position of not remembering, and not skipping when shuffling.
If I choose an individual file and try to do the same, those two options are greyed out and can't be changed....which is odd.
Am I doing something wrong, or does it sound like a bug?
    Thanks in advance

Those 2 settings are stored in a file named iTunes Library.itl, I'm pretty sure, instead of the actual content file tags.
I suspect your Win 7 permissions aren't allowing itunes to change it, somehow. Which is really weird, if you can still add music.
When things are grayed out in the Info screen, it usually comes down to windows permissions. Even if you are the only user and an admin account.
Make sure you have *full control* and ownership of that file. Here is quick lesson with screenshots on changing permissions, whether you want delete it, or in your case, modify it.

Remember to restart itunes after changing any permissions, so it will read the new settings.
If it still doesn't let you make changes, try temporarily turning off UAC.

  • Remembering last position

I've added the new Harry Potter CDs to my Ipod, but these consist of over 1000 1 or 2 minutres tracks.
Is there any way of getting my ipod to remember where I last finished. I ticked "Remember last position" against all, the tracks but this only seems to work on each short track
    Thanks
    Ainsley

I can think of two solutions.
One would be to use the program iTunesJoin (can be downloaded from versiontracker.com) to join the tracks from each CD--it will create chapter markers where each original track was. If you have 13 CD's, you could then have 13 long tracks with each track containing chapter markers for the smaller original tracks.
The 2nd possible solution would be to place the CD tracks in order in a smartlist. Make is so that the smartlist only contained the HP album trakcs, only contained tracks whose playcount was 0, and set to live update. As you listen to a track, it will automatically drop off of the playlist.
I actually combined these two solutions. Used iTunesJoin so that I wasn't dealing with 100's-1000's of tracks and then used the smartlist so that each CD/track dropped off once I listened to it. Then when I went back to the playlist, it automatically started with the first CD that hadn't hit a playcount of 0 and picked up wherever in the CD/track I left off.
Hope this makes sense. I know that it sounds kind of confusing.

  • Finder windows size and position etc.  on clients' machines

How to configure server's finder windows size and position etc. are on clients' machines so that they persist? Thank you!
PS: If this has already been discussed, please refer to the thread. Sorry for double post in that case.

Try connecting to the Share as the Server Admin, make your window the size and position you want and logout again.
This information is stored in the .DS file.

  • Finder cant remember last folder i visited

Since upgrading to Tiger 10.4, i have a problem with the finder i think!!
When i use file open, save or get picture for example in any of my applications, the finder window always reverts to my home ddocuments folder and not the last folder i was in, like it used to do.
    Can anyone help
    Thanks
    Steve

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The Finder window should open to the last location you saved to in each application.
    Try this first:
Navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
If this does not fix it then navigate to /library/caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxxx.csstore. You may have more than one with different negative numbers. Delete all of these. Then, navigate to ~(yourhome)/library/preferences/com.apple.launchservices.plist and delete this file also.
Then log out and back in. Or restart. Let us know.

  • Audiobooks not remembering last position

I've seen this problem for years in the forums and have never submitted a comment thinking this would be resolved, but at this point I'm so frustrated, might as well resubmit this issue.
I listen to lots of audiobooks on my iPhone.  Sometimes while listening to an audiobook, maybe I want to press the pause button in order to do something like talk to my wife for a couple minutes.  When I press pause again, to resume my audiobook, the position is no longer in the same place, it may be an hour or so back from where I originally started.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.  I'd say it's about 30/70 that is works.  Now I don't listen to more than one audiobook at a time (or music), so I'm never swtiching between books, I'm just clicking pause.
Yes, I've verified in iTunes -> Get Info -> Options that the Remember Position = Yes
Yes, I've read another post that says, if I want to pause, I should press pause, then start another audiobook and let it play for 5 seconds, then it will remember the first pause.
As a software developer myself, it seems very simple to remember a position when clicking a pause button.  Apple, can you please fix this bug which has existed in your system for several years.
FYI, I'm using the iPhone 4 on the latest iOS (6.1.3).
    Please, please, please fix this.
    Todd

I wish it would just work but I found something.
I found it was happening when I downloaded directly to my phone. I now sync with itunes and delete book from iphone. then move it back to my phone and it works. Ugly but works for me.

  • Bridge not Remembering Last Position for Side Panels?

The side panels in Bridge CS6 will not stay to the last set position when I close? I have thought that this was a case of bridge not closing properly on Windows (7) shutdown. I then tried setting the side panels to where I would like them and went File > Exit to close bridge properly and when I launch it still does not have the correct position. Does it not remember this and how do I change this?
Here is a screenshot of what I am calling the side panels: http://screencast.com/t/QDZGNCPp  (The red arrows are pointing to the side panels.)

If you have start Bridge at launch enabled you closing proceedure should work.
Have you tried setting your panels where you want then saving this as a workspace?

  • Remembering last position on CD, like DVD Player does?

Is it possible for iTunes to remember the spot a CD was stopped at, the way DVD Player can do with a DVD?

It's harder to do with CDs. DVDs have very explicit encoding and regional settings in the lead in, and are easier to track, just as they are harder to copy. This info will identify a DVD on insert every time as that specific DVD. Since the code is identical on all copies of the same movie, it will work even with two copies of the same movie on different discs. Cd's on the other hand, are not so specific. Have you ever loaded a disc only to have CDDB pull the wrong info, or ask you to choose which CD it really is from a list? Because CDs can have literally ANYTHING on them in any order, the structure is nothing like a DVD, and they can't be encoded the same way. You'd have to import it before iTunes knows what it is and where you stopped. The import gives it the "code" it needs to do this.

  • Finder windows all open in first Spaces space

I'm trying to use Spaces as a way to organize my cluttered desktop. I've created 12 spaces associated with various projects, and populate each one with relevant Finder windows (open folders). Everything looks great.
After shutting down and restarting at a later time, all the Finder windows open in the first Space. Needless to say, this is not helpful to my organization.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to have the Finder windows remember what Space they are supposed to be in? Thanks!

  • CS5 not remembering last window position

I'm trying to get CS5 to remember the last window position (which is on my Cintiq) but it always defaults back to my main monitor on start up.  I've restored the default workspace which solved the problem at first, but now it refuses to remember the position again.  It's annoying having to reposition the window every time I relaunch Photoshop...
Has anyone else encountered this problem?  I don't have this issue with CS4.
    I'm using Vista 64.

Check your graphics card settings for application profiles. Such issues are 90% of the time related to window and dialog repositioning in the driver, not the app itself.

  • LION: How do I get LION Finder to remember a window's settings as always before?

LION: How do I get LION Finder to remember a window's settings (view, window size, position, toolbar, sidebar) like always before? It remembers soon after, but after a time it forgets and does what it wants. Redoing this over and over is driving me crazy. I've been using Mac since 1986 and never had this problem,. One of the most beloved things about the Mac OS is that it REMEMBERS the setting for virtually everything!  Clearly, Jobs has been out of action during LION development.
Maybe there's a way (with TERMINAL or finder prefs??) to adjust the "Time To Forget" to infinity (because it's OK for a while and then reverts to defaults again).

You don't (unfortunately) . Best to be patient until 10.7.2 is released (any day now), and which should fix this bug. If that doesn't work, then report it to Apple, but this is a BIG bug that Apple must and will fix soon.
BTW, I suspect you may be right about Steve Jobs influence, but hopefully this is just an exception.

  • Finder window size and location not remembered

    I have OS X 10.10 installed.
When I press Cmd/shift/H to open a finder window showing my home folder I get the default location and size for the window.  I resize and relocated the window and close it.  When I press that key combination again, the window is now showing the new size and location I previous set.  Unfortunately, when I restart the computer, this modification is lost and when I press that key combination the window opens with the default size and location.
I have used the key combination of Cmd/Shift/A to open a finder window showing Applications and Cmd/Shift/U to open a finder window showing the Utilities folder.  I have been successful in resizing and relocating these windows, and having the system remember my modifications after a restart.  It appears to only be the Cmd/Shift/H combination that is faulty.
Any ideas how to fix this problem?

    Paddster7,
You could try trashing the hidden file inside the folder that stores some of its positioning and size settings.
    To show your hidden files.
Launch ( Terminal ) -> Paste in the following ( defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder ) -> Press Return.
Open the ( Offending Folder ) -> Delete ( .DS_Store ) -> Restart -> Move folder how you want to to stay -> Restart -> Did it stay?
To reverse your hidden files back to hidden.
Launch ( Terminal ) -> Paste in the following ( defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean false ; killall Finder ) -> Press Return.

  • Camino : How to remember last scroll position on previous viewed page?

I am switching from Safari to Camino. Sa far it was a good experience except one issue:
When i scroll to half way of a page and click a link, i will be directed to the link within the same tab. After finished viewing the new link, i press the DELETE button to return to the previous page. Camino returns to previous page but not remembering the location, in this case which is the half way of the page. It just loads back the previous page and scrolls to the top again
Is there any way to configure Camino to remember the last scroll location of the previous page?

I'm not sure there's a way to do what you want, but if you select command click on a link "open in new window" in Camino prefs, you should have the original window and scroll position in place behind the new window.
    Hope this helps,
    Miriam

  • Some programs won't remember window size and position

I have a couple programs, notably ComicNerd, that won't ever seems to remember window size or position from quit to restart. I can't seems to find any evidence other people are having the same problem with the program, so I assume it's something wrong with my computer. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Is there some permissions problem or something?

It's likely a corrupted Preference file
Look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for  .plist file with ComicNerd in it and just move it to your desktop and restart the program/computer.
The preference file should rebuild itself, so look for it and if it's in the Preference folder then delete the one on the  desktop.
You also might want to run ALL the cleaning and maintenance aspects of the free OnyX and reboot.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
the Verify > preference (show only corrupted) should also help locate other corrupted .plist (Preference) files for similar action like you did above.

  • How do I keep the finder in Yosemite from restoring the tabs that were open last time I closed a finder window?

I find it annoying that, if I have a finder window with several open tabs and I close the whole window at once, the next time I click the finder it will open up that same window with multiple tabs I don't need anymore instead of my default location. I've looked all over for a way to turn off this behavior, any ideas?

ok, first of all I haven't given up on you yet.
I just restarted my computer and had reopen files checked, the settings remained the same.
I restarted without remember open windows checked and the setting is still the same.
I hit cmd n multiple times and the setting still opens my finder window to the specified folder.
So this is a bug and worthy of calling apple support about fixing it for you.
also feel free to make some feedback so they might know to fix it.

Maybe someone will come along and know the answer but it's best to file feedback when you see a bug.
