Finder window stuck in upper left corner of display.

I have a MAC mini running OS X Mavericks with an ASUS display.  After a while an open Finder window gets stuck in the upper left corner of the display.  I can pull the window into another position on the display, but it snaps back to the upper left.  Seems to happen after the system has gone to sleep.Has anyone else seen this problem?

According to a report, the problem can be solved at least temporarily by changing the Dock size. I can't confirm.

  • Problem with windows shrinking vertically and becoming stuck in upper-left corner of screen.

Does anyone else have problems with open windows shrinking vertically and becoming "pinned" to the top-left corner of the screen in OSX 10.9? They snap back to the upper-left if I try to move them. I have to Quit or Force Quit the apps and restart them.
I have a Mac Mini, and I have it hooked up to a TV via HDMI. This only seems to happen when I switch the TV input source *from* the Mac Mini to, for example, DirecTV. When I switch the TV's input source *back* to the Mac Mini HDMI connection, all seems fine; except that some or all of the windows that were on the desktop have shrunken vertically, and they are "stuck" in the upper-left corner of the screen. When I try to move the windows out of the upper-left corner, they snap right back. Very weird.
Everything else about the desktop and the Mac Mini appears just as I left it. The screen resolution hasn't changed - nothing like that. Although my first thought is perhaps the screen resolution is, briefly, changed to a lower resolution when the Mac Mini detects that its "monitor" connected via HDMI (in this case my TV) doesn't appear to be there because I have switched the input source of the TV. That's just a guess. And even if that's correct, I don't know how to fix it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I don't remember this happening before I upgraded to OSX 10.9 Mavericks. I'm not 100%, but it seems like something I would have remembered. So the culprit could be 10.9, or it could be something else I have installed recently.
Thank you to anyone that can answer this for me.

    same here:
Overview: I've seen it occur with the symptoms described by the OP while running Xcode, almost exclusively  after waking my laptop from sleep mode.  It effects non-Apple apps as well, but sometimes differently-- the window(s) open in Eclipse Juno for instance will sometimes disappear entirely such that they are totally inaccessible.  As the OP noted the only way to clear the problem is to force quit the app and restart it (quite a hassle if you have multiple project windows open at once).  I run Juno on Win32 and debian Linux also and have never seen behavior like this, so given that the problem has been observed in Apple branded apps and the fact that it only started after I installed Mavericks I would also posit that it is a Mavericks bug.  That said, I do run a third-party app called WindowMagnet (v. 1.6 by CrowdCafe) that affects the window system, allowing Windows 7 Aero style window snapping; does anyone else having this problem use WindowMagnet?
Steps to reproduce:  open Xcode, put the machine to sleep, wake the machine -- this bug will appear intermittently
Expected results: windows should remain the same size/configuration they held prior to sleep
Actual results: intermittently windows will be 'stuck' in the upper-left corner of the display or entirely invisible
System info: mid 2012 macbook pro (OSX 10.9.1)

  • Application windows snap to upper left corner and stick there

Since I upgraded to Mavericks I've had an intermittent problem with application windows. If I shrink a window down to the dock sometimes when I being it back to the desktop it goes up to the upper left corner of the screen and sticks there. I can drag it away but when I let it go it snaps back to the corner. I have to close the application and reopen it to get it back to normal.
So far it has only happened with TextEdit and Google Chrome and it only has happened 6 or 7 times in two weeks but since it makes the window unusable I have lost work when it happens.
Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix?

  • I am trying to download the newest Itunes to windows 7. I did have a previous version that I used the control panel to delete. When I click on download, I get a small partial window in the upper left corner showing Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Web

I did have a previous version of Itunes and Quicktime that I used the control panel Uninstall to remove. When I do the download, I get a small window in the upper left saying Internet Explorer Cannot Display Webpage. It is trying to get to ....itunes64setup.  I did check to see that all old Apple directorories, etc have been delete. Help!

Okay. Let's see if you've acquired some kind of restriction for the download site. These settings checks/changes apply to the IE downloads, so we'll be trying to use IE again.
Head into your Internet Options control panel, and click the Security tab. Click Restricted Sites.
Check to see if the following website is listed as a restricted site:
    appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net
If it is, remove it from your list of restricted sites and try another download.
If still no joy, head back into the security tab of the Internet Options control panel. Click Trusted Sites this time. Click the "Sites" button.
Add appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net as a trusted site. Uncheck the "Require server verification" box. Now click OK and try another download.

  • Two buttons in upper left corner , arrow pointing upwards with a tail &  tw

Real simple and quick question in a lot of logic windows in the upper left corner I see these two buttons.
Once is a arrow pointing upwards with a tail that goes to the right, and turns at a right angle.
The other question is what is the button right next to it that looks like two paper clips, or two links in a chain. Often this is shaded meaning that it is enabled correct?

That's the hierarchy button, useful for moving up in the display levels - for navigating up and down within folders, for example.

That button links windows. Control-clicking sets the way the links are established. Useful for updating (or not) displays of regions - for example, linking a specific region to the piano roll.
There's another useful link button on plug-in windows, which allows you to switch a plug-in display to show another plug-in in the same window, or with it off, display separate windows each time, so you can compare one to another.

Are you sure you have a PowerMac? They can't run Mac OS 10.6.8. Maybe a Mac Pro instead?
Can you post a screen shot of that portion of the screeen for us to review? Does the question mark replace the Apple that's at the left end of the menubar?

Do you still have all toolbars visible (View > Toolbars)?
Did you use an extension or the standard zoom buttons that you can find in the toolbar palette in the View > Toolbars > Customize window ?
Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

The red, green and yellow buttons in the upper left corner of the screen disappear whenever I open Safari.  I cannot minimize the Safari window which I often need to do if I am coordinating multiple windows between different applications.  Does anyone know how to get those buttons back?  I guess I could just switch betwen appliations, but I am used to doing it the other way.

    You're welcome
You had Safari in full screen mode.

  • Question mark in the upper left corner of finder

    Hey,
I have just installed a bigger harddisk and more ram in my MacBook Pro (from last year).
Now there is a question mark in the upper left corner of finder. If I click on it, there is a message : the object doesn't exist, well my message is in danish, but I think this is a close translation. So what is happening?
    Regards Stig

Control-click it and choose to remove it, or command-click it and drag it out of the title bar.

Fox opens an error (Problem opening page) page when ever I open a new fox window and parks it in upper left corner of my desktop, what is up with this ??
It slows down my surfing, a lot and I do not notice the error page, until I notice the slow speed, because it is as small as a page can be, showing only the " -, +, & full size boxes with a border"

  • I keep multiple windows opened and minimized. Sometimes when I click on the task bar to Restore, it apparently "disappears" out of view past the upper left corner. From then on, it can only be seen by using Maximize. What can be done to move it back?

I keep multiple windows opened and minimized. Sometimes when I click on the task bar to restore one, it apparently "disappears" out of view beyond the upper left corner of the screen. From then on, it can only be seen by using Maximize in the task bar. When Restore/Move/Size are clicked, the pointer just goes to the upper left corner of the screen with all combinations of clicking/dragging having no success. What causes this, and what can be done to move it back?

If a window disappear then using the system menu can make it reappear or make it possible to move that window in view. I don't know what causes it to make the window disappear in your case if it does work correctly if you start Firefox.
You can check the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page if you want to open all links in tabs in the current window.

  • Windows 10 Technical Preview - Balloon Notification displayed at upper left corner always ?

I am testing both Windows 10 Technical Preview for x86 (Version 6.4.9841), Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview x86 (Version 10.0.9926) and x64 ( Version 6.4.9860 ) and enabled the balloon notification via local group policy manager:
    1. "User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Start Menu and Taskbar->Disable showing balloon notifications as toasts" set to "Enabled"
    2. RE-BOOT.
    3. When I plugged and unplugged an USB thumb drive, the balloon notification shown at upper left corner of screen always.
This is not right, as I have existing applications depending on balloon notification as well.
    Please advise.

i forgot how to use the setting, move the mouse to the upper left corner and the windows become smaller for an overview?

I'm not quite sure what you want - if you want an overview of all open windows, use the F key.. Otherwise please post back and be more specific.

  • Why does the pop up window for a printable coupon only appears briefly (in the upper left corner) and then disappear, even after putting the web site into the Tools,Options,Content,Pop-Up Exceptions?

    Mha007:
Sorry, but I have already tried this too and verified that the web addresses are listed as Allow, rather than Block. After restart there was no difference, I still get the disappearing pop-up windows.
    Thanks for offering suggestions though.
Have you heard of any issues like this occurring based on the number of tabs that are open in Firefox?
Just a thought, even though I have not heard of this as an issue before. I keep about 80 tabs open regularly, because of research that I am always conducting (I am a blogger, a writer/author, a technophile-especially Green Tech.,), email, work, etc.?
I do have a check in the box for Firefox to let me know if the number of open tabs is causing slow down or other issues.
    Thanks for any help.
