Finder won't copy to 2 USB's simultaneously

I am trying to copy the same files to 2 USB drives simultaneously. Finder copies to the one drive, but is stuck on "estimating time remaining" on the second. Can copy to one at a time, no problem.

I doubt you'll find any usb thumb drive that remains happy formatted specifically for OS X. I usually format them in a digital camera or phone.
I recalled a trick I found to xfer quantities of files - Instead of viewing the USB device in a primary window, I found that if I drill down from the computer icon on the left first, then to the volumes that are online, then further into the USB device that I could drag as many files as I wished from another Finder window.
Don't ask why that worked - I've got no clues, sorry. This issue is particular to flash drives in my experience, and those always demand to be WIN format.
Like I said, I've moved on from small volumes...it it's in a camera, the camera is usually docked. If it's on a phone, I use BlueTooth or Wi-Fi.

  • Finder won't copy at 1000Mbps

    Hi,
I guess this isn't a huge problem, but I'd sure like to figure out what's going on.
I can't seem to copy files at 1000Mbps to and from my linux server using Finder. Finder is only giving me 100Mbps. If I just use the Terminal, I do get the full 1000Mbps.
As an example, I copied an 800MB file to my server using Finder, took about 8 minutes.
Copied the same 800MB file to my server using the terminal, took about 1.5 minutes.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

Download it again, don't install again and the file (Lion Installer.app) will be in your applications folder.
It is deleted after installation, that's why it can't be found.

  • Printer prints wirelessly fine but it won't copy

Just bought hp photosmart plus Series B210. It prints wirelessly fine but it won't copy. Press black copy or color copy on printer screen "and says Starting Copy..."  but gets stuck there and does not copy. Have to pull out plug and plug in to reset printer. Have tried numerous times but unable to print. Help, please!

After several weeks of not finding answers here or elsewhere on the web - and after waiting for an iTunes 7.0.1 and getting it - I "gave up" and went to the Apple Store last night.
The Genius bar took my ipod, plugged it in to a mac, reached under the counter and handed me what they said was a NEW ipod (it was in a generic brown box with no accessories, cables, etc). I did not like that solution for two reasons. First, all of my family photos and videos were on my iPod and I did not like the idea that maybe those photos would turn up on the web someday. Second, it was a gift and had a personalized engraving on the back. When I pressed them on what they thought was wrong with my iPod they said it was not worth the time to figure out and they would just give me another one. Or I could ship in to Apple Support and they would send me a new one WITH the same engraving in a couple of weeks. I took the "new" iPod.
And, sure enough, when I connected it to my powerbook it was detected, the firmware was updated and iTunes synced all my music, photos and videos (and games).
The Genius bar people seems pretty sure that the problem was hardware (the port where you connected the USB cable at the bottom of the device). When I pointed out that it had been working fine right up until the day I upgraded to iTunes 7.0 and that it had not worked since they did not seem terribly interested.
So, my problem is "solved" in that I have a working iPod sans engraving.

  • Itunes won't copy over some of my podcasts and purchases since I have moved it to an external hardrive

So I Have moved over all my purchases and everything to an external hardrive. I did everything right and my itunes story works perfectly fine. However one of my podcasts (yugioh the abridged series) won't copy over along to the ipod saying its file type is not supported by the ipod. It only does this with the first 8 episodes (if you find it you will see them) one of which (the bbt movie) worked perfectly fine on my ipod before but now for some reason it won't. It also won't work on a few of the tv shows that are in hd and one music album that had american boy in it. I'm wondering what I can do to solve this problem. My itunes and my computer (windows vista operating system) is up to date and I have an ipod classic with plenty of room what should I do.

This doesn't work. The iOS4 upgrade has wiped out synchronization to Outlook to the phone and back. There are many threads on this here, and Apple has yet to address this issue.

  • ITunes 11.1.5.5 in Windows 8.1 won't copy to my 160GB iPod Classic.

I have an iPod Classic 160GB and iTunes (Windows 8.1 64bit Computer) won't copy songs to it. It either goes incredibly slow or it just hangs. I can connect the same iPOd to another computer, running Windows 7 64bit, iTunes 11.1.5.5, etc. and it all works perfectly. Is there a Windows 8.1 driver problem with Windows 8.1 and the iPod Classic?

Think you might find it has something to do with AVG.
iTunes worked effortlessly with Norton anti-virus or Windows Firewall on my Windows 8.1 machine but once I installed AVG Internet security everything in iTunes is very laggy.
All AVG settings are set to allow anything to do withTunes and Apple but problems still exist.
iPhone4, 4S, iPod touch 3 and 4 work OK but the Nano doesn't show up at all. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, etc., but the problems still exist.
There have been reports on this forum before about this.

  • Too many files on 10.4 Desktop - Finder won't load

    2.66 DualCore Intel Xeon + OSX 10.4.10 + 2Gb DDR2 DIMM + 230Gb ST3250820AS + OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A
Despite recurrent warnings, a relative kept leaving too many files on the Desktop, up to 300 files (JPGs, downloaded archives). Last week, after attempting to move/copy them to a folder, OSX crashed, and now Finder won't load; after password screen, menu bar and Dock appear, the 'MyDay' app (from Entourage) starts bouncing, and system freezes. Sometimes it goes back to password screen, and from there again to a frozen, empty finder with dead mouse pointer. Other times the spinning clock or wheel remain spinning forever.
Tried DiskUtility, repaired disk and permissions, reset PRAM, no dice.
Tried to boot off the 10.4.10 DVD, it doesn't allow to run OSX from the disc (I have a vague recollection of doing this once, but...)
Started in SafeBoot mode, finder froze at same stage.
Re-Installed OSX 10.4.10 in Archive and Install mode, same freeze at same stage.
The only explanation for the crash, as no updates/new app installing happened, is that there are, again, too many loose files on the desktop and as it tries to load the Finder it crashes. I'm hauling the machine ASAP to try with my own Intel to try access his disk via FireWire target mode but worry the same thing will happen on my system, that it will balk at too many files.
Is there a way to try to fix this without resorting to clean install (needless to say, last backup was months ago)? If I install Leopard on that disk (it comes out fine in Disk Utility) will the same thing happen as soon as it tries to load the Finder? Is there a way to boot 10.4 off a CD/DVD?
Thanks for any info or tips!

    Welcome to the forums!
Make your relative write this out 1000 times:
Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

  • Finder won't run

After downloading the latest version of quicktime and restarting, I got a strange problem: Finder won't run and it seems like the, I don't know, desktop won't run. I can't see the items i've got on my desktop, I can't adjust volume or any of the top right desktop functions (i just get the "waiting umbrella" when i mouse-over them). On the other hand, Safari runs normally and I can open programs like Word from the toolbar and open documents from the disk through programs like Word.
I have tried to restart three or four times, but I feel kind of stuck.

Same thing with me, only it wasn't after installing Quicktime. It happened to me when I tried to mount a big disk image. I could see the desktop picture, and I could startup and use programs, but I had no desktop icons, and every time I tried to launch/relaunch Finder, it would crash. I did an archive and install thing, and it worked to bring the Finder back for a short period, and then it happened again. The Finder wouldn't start.
This morning I was goofing around with the computer, trying to figure out what was up, and I got sick of hearing the external drives start and make their noise. So I turned all three of my Firewire and USB external drives off. Immediately the Finder started up! So… Try disconnecting any external drives and see if that helps. I hope so. Good luck.

Brand new officejet 5745 won't copy or scan anything from the glass.  I insert paper, choose copy and the document feeder from above runs, lightbar doesn't move and it produces a blank page.  When trying to scan from computer, I get an error message to insert document into document feeder. Hello cdnmaggies,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that the Officejet 5745 will only attempt to scan or copy from the ADF. There could be some packing material or tape triggering the sensor in the ADF. Open the ADF and look for anything that got missed.
If it is clear, load a plain piece of paper into the ADf and tell it to copy. When the paper is fed through and done copying, ensure that there is not message on the screen that an original is loaded. If this is displayed, remove the power from the back of the printer to reset the memory.
Ensure the printer is connected to a wall outlet directly and then connect the power back to the printer. If the there is no  message, try copying from the glass.

  • HP 6520 won't Copy

Our HP 6520 won't copy. It is newly set up and does print. After pressing Copy and setting up, the copy says "Starting copy", but doesn't copy. The red x for cancelling doesn't work either, so we have to turn off the printer.
we have tried resetting by unplugging the power cord on both ends and waiting 60 seconds.

    Hi @BrigidE
I can think of a few things we can try. From your description, it sounds like the printer is not responding to the commands given.
Do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause.   Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector
In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector
^ This is not limited to Laserjet printers.
     Also, please check to see if the printer firmware is up to date;
Click here if you have a 32 bit Windows system > HPCOM_292008_HPPS_6520_x86_000_003.exe
Click here if you have a 64 bit Windows system > HPCOM_292008_HPPS_6520_x64_000_003.exe
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
If the issue persists after these efforts, I suggest calling HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.

Thanks.  So yours only shows one cover movie poster too then. That is what mine shows.
    When you say this:
based on whether I've got HD selected or not, e.g. my iPhone shows the SD size, but my iTunes based on whether I've got HD selected or not, e.g. my iPhone shows the SD size, but my iTunes (computer) shows HD.
Do you mean when you have your phone selected on the summary page as you instructed above vs.... what selected for your itunes/computer showing HD?

  • Flash drive somehow corrupt.  Finder won't recognize it and Disk Utility won't repair it

I have a 16 GB SanDisk Cruzer flash drive.  Somehow, and I haven't figured it out yet, but is got corrupted and Finder won't recognize anymore.  So I opened Disk Utility and verified the disk and it said that it needed to be repaired.  So I tried it and I got the message saying "Disk Erase failed with the error:  File system formatter failed."  And when I try to reformat it, I get the same message.  I've tried it with a PC as well but it doesn't show up and Disk Manager won't reformat it either.  I've given up on recovering the files, but I still would like to recover the drive.  Any solutions would be appreciated.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
