Finder won't open in OS X 10.6.8 - error 10810
I can't open finder, and have no access to any folders. Cannot get to Terminal. I've rebooted 5 times, updated software, pulled out all usb connections.
How do I fix this?
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer, trash the Finder plist file from Home>Library>Preferences, repair permissions directly from Disk Utility, restart your comp & empty the trash.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

Help! Finder won't open in Lion
I just upgraded to Lion- yes, I'm a late adopter- and now, my "Finder" won't open in the dock. I have repaired permissions, and I can "work around it" by clicking on my apple logo and doing a force quit on finder. After I do, the dock icon will work. However, if I then reboot, I'm back to square one.
Can anyone give a not-so-tech-savvy user detailed instructions on how to fix what seems to be an issue that other had as far back as late 2011?
My specs are
MacBook Pro
Lion 10.7.4
2.4 Ghz Intel Core duo
Thanks is advance.I wanted those who are interested to know what ultimately solved my problem. I found this solution by doing an internet search; it may or may not have appeared eldewhere on this forum, but so far, this worked for me.
1. Start the computer in safe mode, by holding down the shift key when the grey screen appears, and letting it go when the gear appears underneath the Apple logo
2. Open Finder; it should work. Click on a file or two.
3. Shut down the computer
4. Restart as normal
5. Click on finder; it should open.
I don't know why this works; others hypothesized that a corrupt file is fixed or deleted while in safe mode. I don't know and don't care. I just hope the fix holds. -
I transfered my iWork '09 to my new Mac Air. Now my Keynote won't open. I get message, "An unexpected error has occurred, please quit and reopen Keynote." This doesn't work.
so Keynote still isnt working after installing, I thought you had it sorted from your last post.
If you have not done so remove any files relating to iWork and Keynote and reinstall iWork
files that must go are:
the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications;
the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support
the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library >

Since yesterday,
1. I couldn't open my Finder (the color ball is always rotating)
2. I witness slightly excess heating than usual on the top left corner of the laptop
3. My desktop files are all missing
4. I couldn't access any file even when I use Spotlight (it won't respond to open any file selected)
5. Safari and other browsers work
6. I have Parallel Desktop with Windows and I can access files which are available in Windows

Please Help! Lost all Desktop Icons, Finder won't open & Cant shut off iMac
Hi Mac Users,
I need some serious help please and thank you --- my iMac with Mac OS X 10.5.6 has lost all its desktop icons, I can't open my finder (i've tried relaunching and rebooting my computer, which won't even do a hard shut off). I can open apps on my dock and that is about it.
I did read in another discussion to delete the preference file, but I can't get access to the library?!? And I also read to try doing a disk repair from the install disk and when I insert the disk into my iMac I don't get a pop-up window asking what i'd like to do and since the finder does not open I have to way to even start the disk up to attempt to do a disk repair????
Any suggestions/recommendations are greatly appreciated.

desperate iMac kt1611When you tried to do a disk repair from the instal disk, did you actually boot from the instal disk? You should.
Have you read the manual that came with your iMac and followed the appropriate steps? -
Finder won't open - continually crashes and asks me if I want to reopen windows
I have no idea how to fix this. It began right after I installed Mavericks on my 2010 Macbook Pro 13". Finder will not open. It keeps crashing with a pop-up window that tells me that Finder isn't working and asking if I want to try to reopen windows from before the crash. However, it flashes by so quickly that I can't choose an option. I'd appreciate any ideas on how to fix this. I'm no stranger ot the terminal so I'm comfortable with Unix type commands. I'm at a loss having already removed whatever I thought might be extraneous, problematic or unnecessary preferences, extensions, plug-ins, scripting additions, startup items, and the like.

After trying many safe mode reboots and reinstallations of Mavericks on a 2009 MacBook Pro, this solves the problem. I had tried disk and permision repairs, deleted Google Docs and all other startup items, deleted finder plist several times, deleted other preferences, tried suggested solutions throught Terminal, and was prepared to reinstall 10.8 and then maybe 10.9.
This has fixed the problem.

Finder won't open at all, saying error 10810. Mac being really slow.
I started up and Finder didn't open, everything was really slow, and I can't get to the terminal.
What did you do right before this happened? Change anything?
Try disconnecting all peripherals except for the mouse and keyboard. Then try a SAFE BOOT, as described here:

I just did a software update to get OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacBook Pro.
Now iPhoto won't open and I get this error:
"Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable....Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup."
So I do this and try to repair the database as suggested and I get another error:
"iPhoto will open as soon as the iPhoto library is available. Time Machine might be backing it up."
But it's not - no external hard drive is connected.
I'm terrified I can't get access to my photos (and I admit I haven't backed up with Time Machine for over a year - my mistake that I won't make again).
So I bought a brand new external hard drive (seagate for mac and pc, 2TB) so I could save only my photos to the hard drive (because I googled and read you can manually save your photos to disk by dragging and dropping the photo library onto the external hard drive).
But I can't even get the hard drive to work....I get this error
"NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk2s1
at /Volumes/Seagate Backup Plus Drive because the following problem occurred:
/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) link error; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).

I google the issue again and it says to uninstall NTFS-3G but I actually think I just deleted it a long ago without uninstalling it properly?? I don't know....

First see if you can reformat the EHD to MS-DOS FAT with Disk Utility. If you can
open iPhoto and select all of the Events in the Events mode. Use the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option and export to the EHD with these settings:
Select the destination for the export to be the EHD or a folder on the EHD. This process will create a folder for each Event in your library with the same name as the Event and contain the original image files. The EHD will be useable by a PC and the photos will be available also. -
After installing the safari update for windows, outlook is now not opening email hyperlinks. I have set safari to be my default browser but outlook won't open it when I click a link. I'm new to the IPad. I have a Pages document that won't open. I just get the message "Document can't be opened". If I try to export it by email Pages just hangs while converting the document. If I try to download it to a mac via Cloud, again it just hangs. The document was created in Pages on this iPad.

I hit the ALL STOP butting on upgrading to Mavericks when stuff started going sideways - this is just the latest.
Trying to use iWork for the first time - and same issue. Created a document on my iPad in Pages (I will check for update to pages but there is none indicating I need to in my App store)....and sent that pages file to my Mac Air in DropBox - tried to open "missing XML file" error and when I open the package - there really is NO XML file. I am not a programmer and should not have to be - to create or complie a missing system file that it needs.
Wait a sec.. WORD works but I import a file made in Pages App to Pages and is does not on my Mountian Lion MacAir..? What? *pinches self*
This cannot be fixed by us. I know that I am making far too many trips to the bug page these days - this is all starting to remind me of days gone buy when I left the PC world for this same reason. I don't want to be a beta tester. There is no money in this for me.

My Adobe Reader wouldn't download tickets. Tried opening Adobe Reader application but it would not open. I saw my Adobe Reader needed to be updated, so I attempted to install new Adobe Reader. When it came to finalizing, it said there is an error and can't do. Any ideas? I have no functioning Adobe reader. Should I uninstall old Adobe Reader and then try installing the updated AR?
(Had to step away & do things) I can't even open up the Adobe Reader application to uninstall; get message it won't open. And now have more things needing to be downloaded to print. Any ideas on how to open the app, so I can uninstall. If you are having the installation media and serial number I would suggest you to uninstall and re-install the product. -
Photoshop CC won't open Adobe Camera Raw because of disk error
When I try to open a raw file from a Canon 60D, Photoshop CC does not open the file and displays an error: "Could not complete your request because of a disk error". It does not matter whether you drag the file onto the Photoshop icon to open it, or you go through the File > Open menu…same result.
Adobe Bridge displays a thumbnail of the image, but when I try to open from Bridge, I receive the same error in Photoshop.
The system:
Mac OSX 10.7.5 Lion
Creative Cloud
Photoshop CC 2014.2.0
Bridge CC 6.1.0.115
All software updates have been applied to the OS and to Photoshop and Bridge. Permissions have been repaired on the hard drive.
Any ideas on how to fix?Check permissions on the files and folder where the images are being stored. It is possible that the permissions may be such that the image is not readable by the ACR plugin.
For example, from the Mac Terminal...
cd /<directory name where images are stored>
ls -la <some image>.CR2
What is the output?
Alternatively...
cd /<parent of directory where images are stored>
ls -la /<directory name where images are stored>
What is the output?

Open -a "lmenaria.app" LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -10810
Hello every one,
I have created a Java application for MAC, so I have configured .app. Its working fine. But now my friend got the issue while opening with double click on it, it just blink some times and failed to open.
When tried using open -a "lmenaria.app" then its shows error LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -10810.
When it runs using command line, it works.
Go to "/Applications/lmenaria.app" directory and applied a command
java -jar Contents/Resources/Java/lmenaria.jar, the app starts up.
So what is the issue, Please let me know.

Issue could be related to anything...the above thread is just one example. You might try running Application Monitor to see if there are multiple threads related to one app that have run amok...
It may be related to your friends computer/environment...try another computer.
