Finding a particular version of a document

Hi,
Today I intended to use a particular Numbers document that I update a few times a month. I had no luck finding the current version. The best I could do was a version several months old. I thought that perhaps I had been mistakenly saving the document to a slightly different filename, so I searched on content. Still couldn't locate the current edition using Time Machine.
Another thought is that perhaps I've been inadvertently saving to an external HD that isn't backed-up by TM. So far no success using finder on that external drive either.
Any general comments on search technique would be appreciated, particularly if there's a Numbers-specific issue that I'm not aware of. I do know the date of a version earlier this month, based on creation dates of PDFs that I always save as I update this Numbers file, but I'm not sure how knowing that will help. Looking in TM on dates near that time hasn't revealed anything.

Are you using approvals? Is it possible that your user (or someone else) promoted his Planning Unit, thus removing his ability to edit the data?
Can your user edit the data using an ad-hoc Planning connection (not form) in Smart View?

How Do We Find the Latest Version of a Document without its Path?

Does anyone know how to find the latest version of a document in iFS when you don't know the path of the document? I'm using a Selector to search iFS based on a search string for the object's title and am not sure how to find the latest version of the returned documents.

If you can use the Selector to get the public object then you are in good shape. Once you have the public object recast it to a Family. The method getLatestVersion() will return the public object of the latest version.

How do I fix a word doc. that turned to asterisks? Or find an earlier version of the document?

I was typing a paper and the entire doc. turned to asterisks. Then I panicked and hit save thinking that would be beneficial. Now I only have a doc. with symbols. Is there a way to find an earlier version of the paper? I have saved it at least a dozen times before the doc. turned to ***

Have you considered this ... since you suspect there may be old garbage in the file?
Try creating a brand new document in Word. Then try copying and pasting the old document into the new one. You may choose to do this in sections, or a few pages at a time.

Finding an older version of a document

Hi...is there any way to find a previous version of a saved document if you have changed it and saved and didn't mean to?
If so, can someone help me figure out how to do this? thanks!
P.S. not sure of the exact version of the OS...I know it is OSx something.

As eww mentioned if you did a save as but used the older documents name then the old document is gone unless you have it in Time Machine. Then it's a simple matter of locating where it's at in Finder, opening Time Machine and restoring the copy you want. If you haven't made any changes to Time Machine and leave the external HD connected to your computer it backs up every hour. If you never set up Time Machine then the document is history. If that's the case set up Time Machine so this doesn't happen to you again. Here is a tutorial on TM:

What exactly do you mean when you say "You Wrote Over a Pages Document"?
Did you highlight the text in the document and then start typing?
Did you use some type of Insert function to erase the text already in the document as you type the new text?
If you dodn't do either of those things more then likely all the text that was original in that document is still there, just on another page.
If you did do one of the above it is gone, Bye Bye, See you later.

Where can I find the latest version number in a document in the web? so I can download it with wget to check if the current installed firefox version is up to date and update ir if necessary?

My problem is that I can't find the latest version number in here http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/win32 as a document, so I can check against "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox\CurrentVersion" and update or not, all this is done by a script. It will be great not have to change the versión number in the script every time there is a new release.

I think I solved, all I have to do is this:

I'm in the same boat: new to OS X and Mac, and in the middle of a book. I switched because I heard about the the ease of using Mac, but so far, for me, it's been a nightmare. I bought 2011 Office Mac and hate everything about it, the most recent being the inability to open or cut or paste any of my original word files. I understand that this could have easily been done with earlier versions, but not Mountain Lion (which I learned is what OSX is.) Since I work with language, I am amazed at the assumptions of the Apple community. It helps to use common language and explain even the basics.
So all the helpful hints to use the latest version of Office Mac are to no avail. Now what?

Can't find the current version of my Microsoft Word document

I have spent the past two months or so working on a Microsoft word document. About two weeks ago, I emailed a version of this document to a friend. At that time, the document was about 170,000 words long. Since then, I have made several changes to the document,
including deleting several scenes and adding in new ones. As of yesterday, the document was about 200,000 words long.
This morning, I opened the document again, and it was down to 170,000 words. As near as I can tell, this is the same version of the document that I had emailed to my friend (as it includes the scenes that have since been deleted). I don't have the slightest
idea how this happened.
Yesterday evening I renamed the document by going through Finder, clicking "Get Info", and deleting the old title, then typing in the new one. That is the only unusual thing that I've done with the document recently, but I can't imagine that that
had anything to do with why my document has suddenly been replaced with an older version of itself.
Is there anything that I can possible do to regain my current version? Please, I have been working on this document nonstop for the past weeks and I am seriously DESPERATE to get my words back.

Yes, I am working on a Macbook Air. (Sorry that I forgot to say.)
I did look with Finder, and wasn't able to find it there. However, when I clicked "Open Recent" in Microsoft Word, the document showed up, complete with its original title and all of my missing words. I still don't have the slightest idea what happened,
but the problem has been resolved, at least.

I have a Pages document in iCloud that will not open. I have Time Machine. How do I get to the version of the document that is not corrupted?

I'm in a bind. I tried to open a Pages document that I saved from the current version of Pages on my iMac this morning on my iPad, which has the current version of Pages of the iPad. It would not open on the iPad. Now it also will not open on the iMac, or on the Beta of iCloud Pages.
If it were on my hard drive, I could use Time Machine to recover the most recent version, but it's in iCloud. I've been told that implies that there is a local copy, but I don't know where that is.
It's a book manuscript I've been working on for months. I'm not happy.

Your opinion of Apple products seems unusually harsh. I know how iCloud works and I'm generally pretty happy with it. I also like Pages a lot more than MS Word, and somewhat more than NeoOffice. Word is overripe with so many features Microsoft keeps radically changing the interface in the desperate hope that somehow they will make it easy to use again, but instead, they just confuse everybody with the unnecessary changes.
They had menus, until there were too many options to fit the screen, so they added submenues, until that wasn't enough, so they added dialog boxes, until that wasn't enough, so they added tabbed dialog boxes, and realized that a lot of commonly used features were too hard to get to, so they added the Toolbar just as a shortcut to the more common features and then came up with the unforgivable decision to eliminate the menu interface entirely in the Windows version of the product and replace it with The Ribbon, which took me so long to interpret that I stopped using Word altogether.
NeoOffice is simpler and quite useful, but it was iCloud that sold me on Pages. It's great being able to review and edit documents on iOS devices in addition to automatically synchronizing across Mac OS X devices.
I have options for synchronization with Box and DropBox, and I have a network share I can use, if having a local copy isn't important, but I find that having a local copy (like with Box, DropBox and iCloud) is great because each computer I use has Time Machine, so I don't have to rely on the service to restore a file. I can get it, myself. It's easier to browse to the version I want in Time Machine than it is to estimate the time I want to restore from and hope that someone else can find the right version of the file from whenever they made a backup to restore it for me. I have unhappy experiences from this kind of request to restore stuff.
I find Box and DropBox to be somewhat crude compared to iCloud. I like Apple's new attitude toward saving files. When I edit in Pages and exit, the file is saved. If I edit a file and the power goes out, I generally lose a sentence or less. In traditional apps, I can easily lose hours of work, unless I remember to manually save as I go.
iCloud is not a general remote file storage facility. At it's root, it is a roaming version of whatever you have on iOS devices. So, if I want to access a file from multiple devices and not have to worry about versions, I use iCloud.
This problem I just had was the first problem I've had with iCloud, and with Time Machine, and I use them a lot. Having someone tell me where the local copy of the documents are fixed the problem.
I love Time Machine.
For myself, when I upgraded from Bento 1 to Bento 2 on several computers, one of them choked on my data file. I followed Bento's directions to recover the data file until it said to reinstall Bento 1 from original medium. I couldn't find my disc. Yes, I had bought it. I don't steal software. But I couldn't find my disc.
So, I used Time Machine to restore Bento 1. Just try restoring an older version of an app in Windows from any backup software available to Windows and see how far you get.
I helped someone else recover a couple thousand email messages using Time Machine instead of dealing with the email service because we could open Mail, go to the folder where the messages had disappeared when she had a power glitch, and then browse back until we found the backup just before the messages disappeared. The restore took about 20 minutes, but again, this verges on magic.
I've used Time Machine to restore an older version of OS X when someone discovered that a crucial app wasn't ready for it yet. The glitch was that she hadn't backed up for a month. She kept ignoring the warning prompts. So, when I showed up, I had her do a current backup before doing the restore. We then restored to the old OS, restarted in the old OS and opened Time Machine to recover all her documents, pictures, etc. from the current backup, so she didn't lose a month of work. This is another thing I can't do with other backup programs.
So, I'm generally pretty happy with Apple. Once someone told me where the local copy of my iCloud documents resides, I could take care of this most recent problem.

Can I find out who has opened a document in Sharepoint 2013 document library?

Is it possible to use PowerShell you find out who opened a certain document in a library in a users MySite? Or can I interrogate the audit logs?
I also have Harepoint installed, but I don't know if this works to a MySite document level?

Where I can see what is the latest "Patch level" of a particular version of tuxedo. For example, what is the latest patch level of tuxedo 9.1, where I can find it out?. This information is public ? We need a oracle contacts?

The number at the start of last line in $TUXDIR/udataobj/patchlev is the Tuxedo patch level. (If there is no $TUXDIR/udataobj/patchlev file, then you are running the General Availability version of Tuxedo.)
This information is also available by executing "tmadmin -v".
A third way to get the information is to look at the first line printed by the BBL in the userlog on a particular day, which will be something like "09-30-2010: Tuxedo Version 10.3.0.0, 32-bit, Patch Level 041". (Other processes' first ULOG message of the day will indicate the Tuxedo Version, but will not include the patch level.)

Content presenter to show old version of a document.

We are using content presenter to show content from UCM. In one case we want to show old version of document. We want to pass document-name and rev-label to content presenter and would like to show that particular version only.
Content presenter take datasource as parameter but I believe I can only pass doc-name to it and it will always show latest document. Is it correct?
I am fine if someone can provide cmis query to retrieve one particular version.

I was also thinking on similar line but problem is ora:t:IDC:GlobalProfile returns only latest versions.
Let say my doc-name is HC_AP_HELP_DOC, I put following query
SELECT * FROM ora:t:IDC:GlobalProfile WHERE ora:p:dDocName = 'HC_AP_HELP_DOC' ;
It correctly show the latest version. If I put additional condition of revision-no as 'SELECT * FROM ora:t:IDC:GlobalProfile WHERE ora:p:dDocName = 'HC_AP_HELP_DOC' and ora:p:dRevLabel = '3'', it workds only for revision 3, because that is the latest one. If I change version no to 1 or 2, it does not show anything. I believe its all because version 1 and 2 are not selected by ora:t:IDC:GlobalProfile so additional filter can not do anything.
Do we have any select query which can return all versions of document?

Where can I find an old version?

Hi all,
I often have to open a lot of document to check them. Ofter are 10-20, now are about 350. I cannot see 350 button on my taskbar. I cannot also set my taskbar to show into a single button all similar applications (to recognise different sessions of other programs).
I downloaded some time ago version 9 of acrobat reader, but it is not usefull for me. Where can I find a previous version? Witch one is the one that open all files in the same window?

I can't, but if I open a lot of files I can close all of them togeter, pass throug programs by the task bar remembering what file was the last one I checked, open a file seeing if it was already open and so on.
I have to open files from links (not from a folder) and some links remaind to the same file, some other links remaind to different but identical files and I have to check that.
I don't know why Adobe's made the choise to avoid the MDI, but I think it's a wrong choise. You don't?

Content Type of Older Versions of the Documents

Trying to find the Content Type of a Older version of a document using powershell.
We are trying to delete a Content Type from SharePoint Library from the UI and keep getting the error "Content Type Is Still In Use", have gone through many posts and checked everything like, Checked Out Items, Recycle Bins (User, Site Collection,...),
the only thing we couldn't verify is if this content type is used by older versions of the documents as this library has versioning enabled. (#2, from

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to check if the content type is used by older versions of the documents.
You can check the usage of the content type using PowerShell like below:
$ct = $web.ContentTypes[$contentType]
$ctusage = [Microsoft.SharePoint.SPContentTypeUsage]::GetUsages($ct)
