Finding all additional categories in Library Filter

I am trying to work out if there is any way to extend the choices in the Library Filter pull down menus, or even the choices in the Smart Collection options.
I can only see a percentage of all the metadata fields available to me in those areas, yet I can put data into all categories in the Metadata tab on the right. I am in a work environment where I need to work with a team of about 4, and we receive photos from various sources, many of which have particular copyright restrictions associated with them. I would love to be able to filter by Copyright, but I can't. I can filter by Copyright Status, but that only has three pulldown options (Copyright, Public, Unknown).
I can see work-arounds to achieve the goal I need, like describing a particular set of keywords surrounding copyright, and using a smart collection to filter on mulitple keywords, but really, I don't want to go down this road. I want to have the Metadata associated with files as "right" as possible, as my needs for cataloging are only going to get more complex, and I want to make my house well, before I ask people to move in.
This is of course not only true for Copyright, but for many fields that can be manipulated through Lightroom, like Caption, Headline, some EXIF data. Lightrooms decision on which categories can or can not be filtered seems arbitrary to me. I had a quick look at a couple of other programs (Aperture, Bridge), and they seemed to have all the things in place to allow me to customize my filtering to any level of depth I need, but they are not nearly as elegant programs in other ways.
I see a lot of benefit to Metadata for Digital Asset Management for my group of four or so that are dealing with approximately 30,000 images. I work in a Government department, and I daily deal with requests like; "Quick, I need a shot of a Commercial, Lobster fisherman taken within the last two years, but it has to be North of <Town Name>, oh and make sure it was taken by this Department.". If Lightroom allowed me to filter by every category I can see on the photo, I would be a very happy camper.

I also agree, all fields possible should be exposed.
My particular interest is in using smart collections to validate that all my photos meta data adhears to my own rules including Copyright.

i have and can find all duplicates in my library - after i find them is there a way to delete them (in mass) other than deleting one at a time?

The only way they would all come over is if your wife had automatic downloads turned on in her store settings on the phone before she downloaded the apps. A popup for this option also comes up when you first sign into an apple id on the phone in the app store. If she didn't have that setting turned on, she'll have to download them one by one.
She could also try to sync them over from a computer that has itunes on it

  • How do I find all tracks in library that are not in my playlists?

What's the very best way to find all tracks in your library that are not in your playlists? I only use playlists to show the tracks that i use.. unfortunately I have many extra unwanted tracks buried in my library now because I did not know you could option+delete to delete library tracks from a playlist.

I guess if it put them in a playlist then they'd be in a playlist so shouldn't be in the playlist... Ow my head hurts!
How about this as an idea? Create a new top level playlist folder, call it *All Playlists*, then move all your existing folders & playlists inside this folder. Create a new top level smart playlist ( outside of *All Playlists* ) with the rules:
    Playlist is Music AND
    Playlist is not All Playlists
    Call it *Unlisted Temp*
Create a new top level regular playlist called Unlisted, select all the tracks in *Unlisted Temp* and drag them into Unlisted. You can now delete *Unlisted Temp*, move all your folders & playlists back to their original places and delete the *All Playlists* folder.

Thanks. This seems to have worked easily.

  • My Top Rated songs, when I synch my iP4S - comes up with an error message saying it can't find all the songs. When I check, library has songs listed but with a "!" bubble next to them. When I click on them they play. What am I doing wrong?

When synching, itcomes up with an error message saying it can't find all the songs. When I check, library has songs listed but with a "!" bubble next to them. When I click on them they play. What am I doing wrong? This happens every time so I click them and it sorts them (boring with 200 odd). How can I prevent this?

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match.  Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

  • I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get new computer.  My library is still there and the playlists show and I can even add to my playlists. But as soon as it goes to sync it says it can't find all the songs that used to be there.

I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get a new computer.  They all appear in my library and show in my playlists.  I can even download new songs from the itunes store to those playlists but when it syncs only the new songs go on the ipod.  It says it can't find any of my "old" songs and puts an exclamation mark beside them.  I am clueless when it comes to these things.  Advice please!  We have three ipods on this account trying to figure it out.

You can only sync to one computer.
You would have to transfer purchases, but the apple ID would need to be the same.
Or find a 3rd party app to transfer content.

How can i find all included pictures which are not in a album? (only in the Library)

    Hi there,
I'm afraid I don't quite understand your question. All images are in your Library and only those you specifically select from that Library would be in an Album. What platform are you using? Revel Mac, Elements, web browser, etc?

  • Is there a way to find all highlights made in the macbook ibooks library in the case that you cant remember the book in which the highlight was made?

Is there a way to find all highlights made in the MacBook iBooks library in the case that you cant remember the book in which the highlight was made?

    Some things that might help:
    1. Only the most recently used apps actually occupy memory (used to be the most recent 4, but may have changed in the latest iPhones). After 4 (or so), IOS writes them out of active memory, as it does for even the latest 4 if there's no activity for a long time. So the business of closing all the open apps, apart from the most recent ones doesn't make a difference. Tis article has a good explanation:
    http://www.speirs.org/blog/2012/1/2/misconceptions-about-ios-multitasking.html
    2. There are settings about background app activity that might help:
    - Settings, General, Background App Refresh controls which apps can update their data in the background
    - Settings, Notifications controls which apps can tell you things, which they have to wake up to do.
    - Settings, Privacy, Location Services controls which apps monitor your location - another activity that uses resources
    Hope some of that helps

  • Filter Panel in Bridge not showing all the categories

I am using Bridge CS5 and I download my photos to my laptop using Canon's EOS Utility program. In the Filter Panel on the left I get only a few catogories for some folders where for other folders I get the total of the categories. When I do click on a folder, then while it is collecting all the photos you can see all the categories for a few seconds but then it ends with sometimes just 3 categories. I am using Windows 7 on a 64bit laptop. All the categories in the dropdown box are also marked but still they do not show all in the panel.
What I now saw was if I go to the thumbnails in the Content Panel and I just click on a thumbnail and move it around and back again then a small 600byte ".bridgesort" icon appears and then all the categories show in the Filter Panel for that folder. Anybody knows what is going on? Thanx

In the Filter Panel on the left I get only a few catogories for some folders where for other folders I get the total of the categories.
The filter panel reflects the data of the content panel and while it seems this panel has a mind of its own it only shows categories if there is a choice in a category to filter. For instance having landscape and portrait files in the folder orientation shows landscape and portrait, if you want only landscape this is an option to use this filter for showing only landscape in the content panel. When you have only landscape in the folder there is nothing you can filter because everything is the same and therefor it shows no option for it.
What I now saw was if I go to the thumbnails in the Content Panel and I just click on a thumbnail and move it around and back again then a small 600byte ".bridgesort" icon appears and then all the categories show in the Filter Panel for that folder. Anybody knows what is going on?
You obviously have used the menu View / show hidden files activated. What you see is a small file that contains data for the sort order you have used. The moment you move one file to a new position the sort order changes to manual.
If you deselect the option to show hidden files you won't see this file also.

I have just made a clean instalation of Lion, with a bootable disk, and I planned to restore my files (music, photos, etc.), The installation run perfectly, but Lion doesn't find my backup files. So, I'm about to loose all of my iTunes library, work documents (I'm a lawyer!!), my kid's photos.... How can I restore my files?? Help!!

Since you seem to be using a new disk for Lion, Time Machine will consider previous backups to be for a "different" computer.  Try doing a control-click or click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".  This should allow Time Machine to see the previous backups.
In the worst case you should be able to open those Time Machine backups and copy your documents from there to your home folder.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

  • I can find all my music in the iTunes media folder on my c drive, but not in the iTunes library.

    Hi-
First time here - thanks in advance for any help!
Last year, I loaded a lot of music from my CD collection into iTunes 10 on my PC (running Vista). Now, much of that content does not appear in the iTunes library,  but I can find all of it in the iTunes media folder on the c drive. I upgraded to iTunes 11 today and the same problem persists.
Can anyone tell me why the content doesn't show up in the iTunes library?
    Thanks again!
    John

  • About a month ago I couldn't access 100s of pix from my iPhoto library.  I then went through the process of "re-finding" all missing pix.  I 2x checked that they opened.  Now, I'm having the same original problem!  What's iPhoto doin with my pix?

    Try rebuilding the library.
Hold down the Option and Command keys then launch iPhoto.
Select:  Repar the iPhoto Library Database
    Click Rebuild.

  • How to get iTunes to find all missing songs which are in the library

iTunes keeps telling me it can't find around 150 songs and I have to manually point it to each folder - it offers to use location to find other missing tracks but that only works for songs in the same album folder, not other artists/albums. Is there something I can do to find all songs at once?

    Hi,
Try Doug's Applescripts for iTunes, he has one for finding missing songs.
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=listmias
You can browse his site to find where to put the downloaded script.
    Good luck.
