Finding all photos that include a particular person whether their face appears or not

Faces is a great way to locate all photos where someone's face appears.  But what about photos that the person is in, but their face is not (e.g., the photo was taken from behind the person)?  What's the best way to tag photos so that I'll be able to have all photos that contain Person X together, whether their face is in the photo or not?  (Note: I know I could use Faces to add a face to the back of someone's head - that would get that picture to appear in Faces for that person, but would likely mess up the face recognition for that person).
My current thought is to use keywords to tag those photos with the names of people who appear in photos without their face showing.  I could then create a Smart Album that includes all photos that contain a Face or Keyword for Person X.  Is there a better way to accomplish this?

That will not mess up the face recognition. iPhoto will only use the faces that have been automatically found by iPhoto to learn the parameters for the recognition of the person. So you can include any part of the person to get the photot in the Faces stack on the cork board.

That is fine, but does not give you access by using the Faces view.

  • How to find all photos that have NO faces, as opposed to UNNAMED faces?

    I find that iPhoto often misses faces entirely, especially if the face is wearing sunglasses or a hat or both.  Sometimes it is rather inexplicable that it has missed a face, as the face seems obvious.
    If you use the smart album method to find all "unnamed" faces, the photos have at least one unnamed face identified.  You can then add any missed faces to those photos.
    But what about photos in which iPhoto has failed to identify the existence of even one face?  Or for that matter, if I want to see only pictures of landscapes or objects that have no people?  Does anyone have a method for finding all photos that have no faces in them at all?
    For me, the idea is to find all unidentified faces and add them.  But as I pointed out above, there may be other uses for this.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks

    Awesome !!! Thank you very much. I did not realize you could use JavaScript to code against iTunes ...
    I don't know if you have written any of these yourself, but do you know how to maybe create a smart playlist with this information via script? If not, no big deal. At least I know have something which I can use, I will just have to run it every so often.
    Thanks again for pointing me to that site!

  • How do I find all photos that can be '"reverted to original"? Help please!

    Hi. I hope that someone can help me with this!
    I am trying to go through my iPhoto Library of about 1000 photos and find all of the photos that have the option to be "reverted to original", ie. I have made changes to them. I realise that I could go through them one by one, but I am trying to avoid that!
    I have realised recently that I should duplicate a photo before changing it, so that I leave the original untouched. However this doesn't help me with all of the old ones that I DIDN'T duplicate.
    Is there an Applescript or a method of finding all of the old photos that I am looking for?
    Thanks so much in advance for any help,
    Fleur

    I don't think it can be done from within iPhoto but there's a way you can do it from outside. First download and launch QPict. Then do the following;
    1 - open your iPhoto Library folder and type Command-F.
    2 - in the search window create these two search criteria:
    a - Kind is Folder
    b - Name contains Original
    3 - In the search results window click on the size column to separate the empty folders from those with files in them.
    4 - select all of the folder that are not empty and drag into the open window of QPict.
    That will open the original files in QPict so you can view them there and compare to those in iPhoto. Just remember do not move any of those folders out of the iPhoto Library folder. Just move them into the open window of QPict.

  • Is there a way to find the photos that iTunes backs up from the iPhone?

    A friend of mine had to replace his phone and something happened when he added the new phone. He can't find his photos that should have been backed up. There must be a file somewhere where they are saved on the computer I would think. Can it be accessed? Also what about contacts?

    Thanks for the info. Not sure what he did or if he is very tech savvy. He and his wife bought 3G S phones and her's froze up after a month and had to be replaced. I don't know for sure if he had backed it up or not. I know he went to the Apple Store to get it replaced and he asked them about transferring the contacts and they said they couldn't because the phone was froze up. I know they had it just over 30 days. I don't think they were using another program for their contacts either.
    Along the same lines another friend was asking about the photos and if there was a way to access them from the backup on the computer. He also had to replace his phone, but restored it from backup and got all his photos back. He was asking if there was a file somewhere to access those photos on the computer. I don't know how tech savvy he is, and maybe he doesn't realize that when you connect your phone to the computer that it gives you the option to view the photos and then copy them.

    Can't get iMovie08 to show all photos that are in iphoto... only shows about 30, when there are actually about 60 or so in one album... any ideals?
    Do the photos display correctly in the media browser when the mail library ("iPhoto") heading is selected? If so, you could simply add the photos from the library rather than the specific album. Alternately, if you have to select your photos from an "album," you could try reselecting the photos in the main library in the iPhoto application and create a different album to see if all photos then show up in the secondary album in the iMovie media browser.
    If the "missing" photos do not show up under the main "iPhoto" heading in the iMovie media browser and do not show up in the main library in the iPhoto application, then the files may be corrupted. In this case, simply re-import the original files if possible. You could also try to force a rebuilding of the thumbnail cache, but this is usually done automatically when the application itself detects inefficiencies in thumbnail access or when the application is updated. In any case, there does not appear to be a manual menu option to do this arbitrarily when the user so desires. I suppose you could try to locate and delete the cache manually and hope this forces an automatic rebuild the next time the iPhoto application is opened but I am personally not that familiar with the package structure to advise such action at this time. You might check the iPhoto forum and see if anyone can help you further in this area of endeavor.

    I don't know where to find my photos that are supposed to be stored on the "cloud".  I don't want to erase them from my iPhone until I can locate them.  I'm out of storage.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Only photos in photostream are kept in the cloud and only for 30 days. To save your photos before deleting them, sync them to a computer or an online storage solution such as Dropbox.

    I cannot find my photos that I sync'ed from my iPhone4S to my PC.  More recent photos no longer appear in the Sync directory. What can I do to properly sync them?

    Not sure what you mean by "sync" -- Apple uses the term "sync" for transferring photos from the computer to the phone and uses the term "import" for transferring them the direction you asked about.
    For importing to the computer the following has directions (which for Windows 7 links to the Microsoft support site since the transfer is handled by Windows 7 the same as it would import from any camera:) Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC

  • How do I find my photos that are stored in iphoto on my mac?

    How do I find my photos that are stored in iphoto on my mac?  I don't want to access them through iphoto, I want to access them individually.  I have always done it previously through searching for the img number.  But it no longer works!

    That's half-correct. Direct access is supported.
    Find the photo in iPhoto, then go to the "File" menu and click "Reveal in Finder" - it takes you directly to the image file. Or right-click on the photo, and choose "Edit in External Editor" which opens the original file in other software, like Photoshop, if you have it.
    And it's dangerous to move, rename or delete the original file or folders after you found it, but safe to do other things.

    Hello SusieMacBook,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    You can definitely get these photos into iPhoto if they are the correct file type (JPEG, GIF, TIFF, and PNG).  The way you import the photo attachments depends on where you check your e-mail.  The following article is for iPhoto 11 (but should work for previous versions as well).  It outlines how to import photos from Mac Mail, other e-mail applications, and web browsers, so just look at the section that applies to you.

  • Filtering-find tasks that include a particular resource in subtasks? MicrosoftProject 2010

    Hello everyone,
    I'm actualy working on a project on MicrosoftProject 2010. I met a problem when I would use the filter. I will try to explain:
    My project is built as below:
    Task A
    sub task A/resource Bert
    sub task A/resource ERNIE
    sub task A/resource Ralph
    Task B
    sub Task B/resources ERNIE
    Sub task B/resource Ralph
    Task C
    Sub Task C/resource Bert
    Sub Task C/resource Ralph
    I want to present to Ernie all the projects he's involved in, showing all the sub tasks. In this case it would be Task A and all three sub tasks, and Task B and both sub tasks. Task C and its sub tasks would be filtered out since Ernie is not involved at all.
    I tried all the options that I am able to do so I really need an help . I would precise that I've a lot of tasks and sub tasks in the project and it would be unthinkable to do by hand each time I've to present the project to one of my coworker.
    Somebody advise me to use Excel to filter but I would like to keep the Project presentation and all the link of the planification. Therefore they propose to use a code in Microsoft Project.
    Unfortunately I've some difficulties for coding but I can understand it. It just lack me the framework and i'll try the rest. It's for why I post on this forum. Does somebody can help me?
    Thank you in advance.
    Grub'

    Grub,
    I tried a couple of things with grouping and filtering but couldn't come up with anything to meet your criteria so I wrote this macro. It's a little crude but it does what you want.
    Option Compare Text
    Sub ResNamAndSumm()
    Dim t As Task
    Dim ch As Task
    Dim Nam As String
    'first clear all tasks from previous run
    For Each t In ActiveProject.Tasks
        If Not t Is Nothing Then
            t.Flag1 = False
        End If
    Next t
    'request resource name
    Nam = InputBox("Enter resource name")
    FilterEdit Name:="grub", taskfilter:=True, create:=True, overwriteexisting:=True, _
        FieldName:="Resource Names", test:="contains", Value:=Nam, ShowInMenu:=False, showsummarytasks:=False
    FilterApply Name:="grub"
    SelectAll
    'find tasks with resource, set flag for task and it's parent
    For Each t In ActiveSelection.Tasks
        If Not t Is Nothing Then
            t.Flag1 = True
            t.OutlineParent.Flag1 = True
        End If
    Next t
    FilterApply Name:="all tasks"
    'go back and set flag for all sibling tasks
    For Each t In ActiveProject.Tasks
        If Not t Is Nothing Then
            If t.Summary = True And t.Flag1 = True Then
                For Each ch In t.OutlineChildren
                    ch.Flag1 = True
                Next ch
            End If
        End If
    Next t
    'apply final filter
    FilterEdit Name:="grub1", taskfilter:=True, create:=True, overwriteexisting:=True, _
        FieldName:="Flag1", test:="equals", Value:="yes", ShowInMenu:=False, showsummarytasks:=False
    FilterApply Name:="grub1"
    End Sub
    Hope this helps.
