Finding all ringtones on Samsung Stratosphere

I've had a Samsung Stratosphere nearly a month, and I have a question about ringtones. Specifically, some apps seem to have access to certain ringtones while others do not. For instance, "Transparent piano" appears as a ringtone in Home > Settings > Sound settings for Notification but not for Phone. I can maybe understand that, as some tones might seem more appropriate for a phone ring than others. But when I go to set an alarm using the Clock app, the possible Alarm tones (under Sounds) are more like the list of Phone tones than the Notification tones. I like "Transparent piano," and I'd like to have it available as an Alarm tone.
Why can't I see the whole list of ringtones? And where might these ringtone files be located on the phone, so that I might, say, create a more accessible folder for my own selection of favorites?
Thanks.

They actually want to use the ringers as a RingBack tones and these file does not appear to be on the device to access so the method wont work the same as setting a ringertone on the device.

What is the difference between a Ringtone and a Ringback Tone?
Ringtones are downloaded to and played by your phone. The called party hears the Ringtone.
Ringback Tones are not downloaded to your phone. Instead, the Ringback Tone is played by the network to your callers prior to you answering the call or it being diverted to voicemail. The calling party hears the Ringback Tone.

  • Samsung Stratosphere update coming

According to a couple of sources, the Samsung Stratosphere is to receive its first system update over the air, probably within a few days:
    http://www.droid-life.com/2012/08/27/samsung-stratosphere-to-receive-first-update-includes/
    http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/08/27/samsung-stratosphere-on-verizon-slated-to-get-a-pseudo-ics-update-build-ff01/
This is going to be a "mandatory" update, meaning that Strat users cannot choose not to receive and install it. The update will not be Ice Cream Sandwich, but will add a couple of ICS features to the Strat's Gingerbread Android operating system, such as face unlock. (I presume that this means you can unlock the phone by looking at it, not by tapping it with your face -- nor that the phone will unlock your face if the latter seizes up. ) It will also address a few issues that have been mentioned on this forum, such as individual ringtones for contacts, and improved screen wakeup during calls.
Here is an announcement from VZW about the update (note the misspelling of the device's name in the URL!):
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/statosphere.pdf
Here's a brochure from VZW about what will happen when the update is ready to install (with the same misspelling):
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/statosphere_instructions.pdf
I haven't received any word from VZW about this myself, which I find a little annoying, since they say they are "pleased to announce" it. Just not directly to customers, I guess. Now if my phone will only hold a 4G connection long enough for the thing to download!

Thanks, Ann. Can you tell me (us) how to get to that support page? I only found the announcement PDF because it was linked to on one of the sites I gave in my post (which I only found because they were in a post on the Android Central Stratosphere forum, which I also monitor). I went to the VZW site and tried clicking a couple of support links, but I could only find some very basic stuff, not this announcement. I'd love to have a VZW support site I could also check from time to time for such announcements.

  • Samsung Stratosphere turning itself off and on

All of a sudden, my Stratosphere is caught in this loop of turning itself off (despite holding a full charge) and then trying to turn itself back on. For the last several hours, the screen has been alternating between black and black with the word "Samsung" on it. If I force the issue and hold the power button down for a few seconds, the phone will boot up fully, but then it'll either turn itself back off immediately or let me use it for a couple of minutes before turning itself off.
My first thought was that it might be the battery, but I'm not keen on buying a new one just to find out that it's actually an issue with the phone itself. Does this sound like anything that anyone else has gone through?

    SW9-
Unfortunately, this sounds like something I have gone through way too many times with my Stratosphere. I have lost count of how many replacements I have had to get because of this. If it starts working after the Hard Reset (mine did not but yours might work??), you will notice that the phone eventually will stop holding a charge.
I suggest trying anything you can to get a new device as there are many discussions on the Verizon Customer Service website that are about the Samsung Stratosphere; if you search around, you will be able to see all of the fun issues that the device has. Good luck!

  • How can I delete multiple emails on my Samsung Stratosphere at once?

How can I delete multiple emails on my Samsung Stratosphere at once? I use AOL and when I delete the emails off of my computer, they do not delete from my phone. So I have hundreds of unwanted messages showing on my phone but I have not found an option to delete all messages, only individually. I would also like to be able to clear the messages from my phone without them deleting from my computer. This was super easy with my blackberry and I have not found anything similar on this phone.

When I go to the trash folder on my Stratosphere, I can check individual emails and then hit "Menu" and "Delete", but if I hit the "Menu" button before selecting any e-mails, then I see the "Delete all" button, but it's greyed out, so I cannot select it.  There's also a "Restore All" button next to the "Delete all" button, and it's also greyed out.  So, currently the only way I can delete the 100's of e-mails in my trash is to put a check mark next to each one, which is painful.  Anybody else have this problem or know of a solution?

  • Can't find imported ringtones on phone

I give up.  I don't know what else to try.  HELP
I made a couple of ringtones with mymxr (converted mp3 to m4r).  I got the ringtones to show up in the "tones" section of iTunes (although at one point one of them appeared in the "movies" section).  ITunes seems to sync ok but I can't find these ringtones listed with the tones that came with the phone (iPhone 5s).  I'm a newbie at all of this apple stuff and while I've read of others trying to do something similar nothing I've tried over the last three days has worked.
I believe it's possible to convert some of my favorite tones from my Blackberry to the iPhone but I'm not having any luck accomplishing this.  Any insight as to how to make this happen would be gratefully received.

Use control+click to right click. I am on a mac too.

It IS in my itunes as a ringtone but will not sync to phone. I cannot drag and drop either but can with songs.
When I click on the phone device in itunes and get the tabs on the top, I go to ringtones. If I check the sync ringtones box a window opens stating that if I do sync ringtones all of my music and videos on the phone will be removed. Why is this? I did it with my wife's phone because she only had a couple songs on hers but I do not want to wipe all of my songs off. Is this the only way? I don't even need the ringtone on my phone but I am trying to figure out what to do so i can do it on my wife's phone.
Highlight the file in iTunes and open "get info" by cmd+click or right click>>get info.
Make sure that the extension of the file is .m4r
Since you are not able to drag it out of iTunes on your desktop, it tells me that the extension could be something else other than what it should be i.e. .m4r. Also, hence, when you try to add it to your iPhone the file is being treated as a music file thereby trying to replace what you have in your music section of your iPhone.
If the file extension is not .m4r, this is what you need to do -
    1. Locate the file on your macintosh hard drive for this -
    2. Click your finder>>music>>iTunes>>iTunes music and then look for a folder called Unknown.
Note - If your iTunes library is not "clean" with random songs without artists, albums, etc. you might have more than one folders by name "Unknown" or some variant of it. So look around and locate the file on the hard drive.
    3. Drag it out on your desktop
    4. Right click and change the extension to .m4r
    5. Save and double click so that it gets imported back into iTunes and starts playing too on your mac
    6. You will find it under Ringtones. Sync in back on your iPhone.
Hopefully it will go well for you this time around.

  • How do I find my ringtones an ringbacks on here ? They were supposed to transfer on to this phone.

How do I find my ringtones an ringbacks on here ? They said they transfer onto here since I bought them. And how can I turn up the volume in the earhole ?

Lindsey T  ...I bought all of the ringtones off of VZ tones deluxe,All of my ringbacks some of which were purchased together with the ringtone as a pair are still on my new phone. But all 25 ringtones are not on here. Some of the ringbacks I bought online. But all the ringbacks made the transfer from a Ravine to the new Apple I phone 4s. But none of my ringtones made it.     Thanks

  • Why won't my Samsung Stratosphere Charge??

I've had a Samsung Stratosphere since late July of 2012. For the most part it hasn't given me any problems. However for the past 3 days the phone has had problems charging. Last night it finally died while I was sleeping, I tried to charge it again, but it wouldn't even stay on. I took out the battery for a few hours, put it back in and then charged it with the phone off. It charged all the way to 100% after 2 or 3 hours.I turned it on to see if there was any positive change and the battery went back to 50%. When I turned it off again for it to charge again it was noticeably less than 50%. Does anyone know how to help me with this problem?

i have experienced this on multiple android handsets that i have, and it is not limited to just the stratosphere. in my experience i've found that:
    1) the charging usb cable was at fault, eventhough i was able to get a charging state and a usb connectivity state. i swapped it out from a cheap one i bought from fry's and my charging issues went away.
    2) you can try discharging the battery all the way down until it depletes. you need a fully and completely discharged battery. ( keep powering it on until it can no longer power on after it discharges)
      a) charge the battery with the phone off. I have found that a complete discharge of a battery has helped resolved my issues in the past.
      b) *for rooted users only* reset battery stats through Clockwork, or use Battery Calibration via Google Play.

  • Bluetooth disconnecting on Samsung Stratosphere?

    Hello all!
I have a Samsung Stratosphere, and I use a Plantronics Voyager Pro + Bluetooth headset with it.  I have been having trouble with the phone not connecting to the headset if it has been idle for a while, and I have even had the Bluetooth disconnect in the middle of a call.  It will NOT re-establish the Bluetooth connection unless I totally restart the phone--something I obviously don't want to do in the middle of a call.
Has anyone else had this issue?  Any suggestions for me?
    I'd appreciate any help!
    Thanks!
    Steve

    Hi SouthParkSteve,
I feel your pain; I use my phone all day and I depend on my Bluetooth headset for hours. I can just imagine the inconvenience of having to power off and on to reestablish connection constantly. I checked my resources and I learned that the Samsung Stratosphere is not listed as a fully compatible device for the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and while most Bluetooth devices will have some connectivity for using the same Bluetooth technology, please note that connectivity is not guaranteed for device not listed as fully compatible. Please confirm this compatibility information at this LINK as the only Samsung mobile devices fully compatible with your headset on our network are the Omnia II & Continuum as per the Plantronics website.
To avoid compatibility issues in the future and be able to take full advantage of your devices' Bluetooth features going forward I recommend confirming compatibility of your devices before purchasing.

  • Samsung Stratosphere keyboard questions

    People,
Is anyone familiar with the Samsung Stratosphere phone? This is my first Android smartphone and I've run into a few problems. Is there a "enter" key on the keyboard? one isn't marked and my phone came with the wrong users manual, plus Verizon doesn't have a users manual posted on any of their pages either. Also, is there a way to go forward, or undo the back button, from the keyboard? Will a stylus work on these Androids, fat fingers suck.
Browser, how do you bookmark a page on one of these? list of favorites? will these phones accept .pdf's or .docx files in through the data port? I hope there is probably a word.docx reader app somewhere? I cant find it. am having trouble with the Sims card as well, is there some set-up step or is there some procedure to unlock it, unblock it, activate it or something
To be able to use the Cloud player so many people offer, is that feature limited to the ability to use WiFi? I understand that the cloud service is an online storage for things like music and or movies, what else can be stored online? I can'f find allot of info about this Cloud service.
I would appreciate even a partial answer to only one question, if anyone feels like responding, but I assume "chat" will be manned come monday and that should answer my questions? I think! thanks again

  • Samsung Stratosphere Screen Fragile

    Hello!
Has anyone had the experience of the Samsung Stratosphere screen cracking VERY easily?  My wife just lost her 3rd stratosphere, and each time she has had a protective case, and each time it was just in her purse.  Last time we paid money for a refurbished one, and we just can't afford to keep paying for a new phone every couple of months.  Has anyone had any luck calling Samsung, or has Verizon been helpful at all?
    Thanks!

        Hello community!
Having any kind of malfunction with your cellphone is never fun. We know how important these devices have become in our life and we want to ensure they work properly and look great!  I tend to think of our cellphones as investments because we want to keep them in the best of conditions.
This type of difficulty walks a very thin line due to outside forces, but I would at least like to provide some feedback and some expectations.
There are qualifying factors that would allow for your phone to be replaced under the manufacture warranty if there is a crack underneath the top layer of screen glass.
    1. There must be no other physical sign of external damage visible with the device.
    2. The outer screen must be smooth to the touch, with no external screen compromises.
    3. There should not be any indication of bleeding on the screen.
    4. There should be no indicators of Liquid or Physical damage on any other parts of the phone.
If there is additional damage found on the equipment, the devices would be subject to a nonrefundable Device Damage fee.
Keep in mind this is provided warranty from the manfacture of the phone and is subject to change in the future. I personally want to add to this subject that we are absolutely here to help as much as possible.
I trust this was helpful information and I look forward to each of you enjoying the phone as you should.
    Thank you

  • Samsung Stratosphere not holding a charge

I finally made the leap from Blackberry to Android and while I like the interface and great apps this phone does not hold a charge. I charge it all night and after one phone call it is at 50% battery. I literally have to keep this phone on a charger all the time which defeats the whole "mobile phone" purpose.  Anyone else have this issue? Should I try a new battery or is this a known defect in this phone?

    Hello all, and
I too was having the same issues with my samsung stratosphere.  I purchased it June 2012 and had to change the phone, then when i received the new phone the same heating/not able to hold a charge issue continued to happen.  So back to the verizon store i went and they said to remove the battery, take the sim card out, shut down applications, etc...I think they say this to sound legit and get you out of the store.  My phone was so hot i had to shut it down 5 times per day, and i had to talk on speaker as it was too hot to hold.  I knew my phone was having 2 issues, one was the heating issue and the other was it could not load any websites, but only when i was on wifi.  So I started to think that the problems might be related and began to google why it could not load web pages while on wifi and came across they following.
So, I have a Stratosphere. My problem: apps work fine, but browser won't connect at all when on WIFI. I had NO TROUBLE connecting to my wireless router, but half the stuff on my phone coiuld not access the internet when on WIFI. It seemed that all the items not able to connect were using the phone's internet connection THROUGH the browser's internet interface. I could get everything t work by disabling wifi so that the phone HAD to use 4G, and it worked, but as soon as I enabled wifi and the phone connected to my router, half of the stuff on my phone would stop working... things like the Facebook integration in the Contacts area. So, to fix my WIFI, I went to SETTINGS>Wireless & Networks>WIFI Settings>Advanced>Proxy. There was some text in the Proxy field. I erased that and... BOOM everything started working again. I am sure this isn't everyone's problem, but perhaps it can help a few people.
I looked at my settings and found text in my proxy setting, i then deleted it and WOW! it alll worked again, the heating issue went away, internet connections were back, my phone sped up, and the battery lasted almost all day on a full charge as opposed to an hour.
I hope this helps for you as it did me.  It was a major hassel to not be able to use my phone because of the heat.  I'm surprised verizon does not have this figured out, when i googled the problem i was amazed at how many different types of phones were having similiar issues.
    Good luck,
    Mike

  • Cooler smileys  for Samsung Stratosphere

Recently got a Samsung Stratosphere but the smiley faces are pretty pathetic.  Does anyone know if the emoji smileys can be downloaded to this phone?  Or if there are free smiley downloads for this phone?  Thanks.

Good morning and happy Sunday almodn525,
I too share the same love and passion for the Motorola Startac. I’m super impressed that you still have yours. I would definitely suggest keeping it as it is a collector’s item. As you can see, cell phones have came a long way over the years. While I’m glad that you are happy with your Stratosphere, many new devices do not have the blinking LED feature that you so desire. I don't want the lack of this feature to  bug any more than it already has. Since I don’t know any devices that do have off the top of my head, I would encourage you to visit your local Verizon Wireless retail store and test the many smartphones that we have on display. If you are able to find a device with this feature as well as others for you to enjoy then I would love to hear about it from you. If you have any additional questions or concerns then we are here to assist. I’m looking forward to reading what device that you will decide on. Happy shopping.
    Thank you…

  • Samsung Stratosphere

I am beyond frustrated.  I have had the phone for 2-3 months now and it has always had the same problem. I can't send pictures to anyone or a website without it taking up to 2-3 days.  (My other phone was near instant posting of photo.)  The pictures that I do take are like short little videos, 2-5 seconds long.  All the pictures that I receive from others I have the same problem they are 2-3 second videos.  This has been this way from the START.  Doesn't matter if I am in 4GLTE, 3G, battery out, battery in, a hard reset of my phone (several times),  mobile data enabled, mobile data disabled, DMCA only.  I have tried all of the suggestions and I am still having this problem.  I knew I shouldn't have "upgraded" to a smart phone.  This is what I want:  I want a normal picture, not a 2-3 second video.  I want to be able to send that picture to someone one or a website and have them receive it in a timely matter.  I would like to be able to receive a normal picture without the download timing out.  I don't want to have to go through 5-10 different settings to do this everytime.  This all is making the blogging that much harder.  Right now it is easier to take a pic with my Nikon D700, download that through the Nikon software, I am even able to touch it up and load it onto facebook or my blog, than it is to use this phone camera.  Obviously, this is an ongoing problem that Verizon seems to not know how to fix, given the number of discussions.
Such an unhappy customer right now.
    Dvora

I's happening to me to.When I first bought my samsung stratosphere i was ablet o receive pictures. No the last 3 month it wasn't receiving or sending pictures. After figuring it out I found out it only works when I turn on my Mobile Data, it won't work when using wifi. But I don't want to use the Mobile Data because It will use up my usage when receiving or sending pictures. I believe is hapening to samsung phones cause my friend has a different samsung model and it's happening to them to. My other friend has Iphone, LG, Motorola and it doesn't happen to them. So I believe is only Samsung.

  • Samsung Stratosphere - Lemon

My daughter got a Samsung Stratosphere, it gave her nothing but problems, losing it's charge, not staying charged, locking up, etc. She had it replaced twice and it was driving her nuts. On the last reconditioned one I took it instead of having to deal with it. I had to replace it 3 times and it still locks up, about one out of ten calls it will flash a screen not allowing me to answer, it will not stay charged and I have to keep it on a charger most of the day. It has been taken in to the Verizon center many, many times. They have been good to deal with and most of the time been able to get it up and going again. The most valuable thing they showed me was taking the battery out to reboot it, I have to do this at least once a week. If one does a search on the internet anyone can see this model phone has been dog from the word go. The only explanation I can get on getting a different model (I have never had issues with a cell phone until this piece of junk, either has my daughter) is that that is against Verizon's policy. This week I have had to pull the battery 2 different times, I am fed up! ATT is looking better everyday, we have stayed with Verizon just due to service, certainly not price. Is it worth losing a customer by making them keep a lousy phone and it is just not my particular phone, it obviously was all the Samsung Stratospheres?
    Edited to start new discussion.

I'm not sure if there's a setting for this in the stock e-mail app. There might be in a more advanced e-mail app; someone here who uses K-9 mail might be able to chime in on that.
Another approach would be to password-protect the whole phone, so that random people would not be able to access anything on it. From the Home screen do Menu > Settings > Location & security > Screen unlock settings. You can set a PIN, password, or drawing pattern to unlock the phone. But BE CAREFUL if you do this -- there have been several posts here from people who've set this and then promptly forgotten what it was. The outcome is not pretty.
