Finding all songs by a particular artist

Once again, I seem to have lost a tool that has only rarely failed me in the past. I have many Inkspots' songs, but they are sprinkled throughout my iTunes library. I wanted to put them all together, so I typed "The Inkspots," and "Inkspots" in the iTunes search window. Nothing happened. No search was made. I know that I must have accidentally clicked on the wrong key or button, but I don't know how to fix the situation that I inadvertently created. How to I get the "search" function to work again?

I don't remember what happened, but I no longer have this problem. Close this case.

  • All songs not showing under artists name - even though spelling is the same

I have 8 songs by a particular artist. Only one shows under "artist". I have checked 5 times - spelling-everything is the same for the artist. All of the songs can be found under "songs". I have checked spellings over & over. What could be my problem?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. If you are using iTunes 8 and view the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. • How-to find all songs with exclamation mark?

    Hi,
Is it possible to have iTunes show all songs for which it can't find the file? The external hard disk with all the songs failed and I want to verify that I have restored all of the library.

  • How do I find all songs in my music library that has lyrics entered in it?

For songs, there is the "Lyrics" field to enter lyrics for that song. A small number of songs in my massive music library has lyrics entered in this field. How do I filter my music library to find these songs that have lyrics entered?

Thanks, works great. Used the script to add all songs without lyrics to "No Lyrics" playlist, then created a Smart Playlist with the criteria:
    - Is NOT in "No Lyrics" playlist
    - Media type is "Music"
And then I've found all my songs with lyrics. I just had to edit each song individually in the Lyrics tab, select all the lyrics, hit delete, then hit Next to continue through them all. It took about 5–10 minutes for about 125 songs.

  • Finding all topics where a particular style is used?

    Hi All.
In RoboHelp 7, does anyone know how I can find all topics that use a particular style from my CSS? I want to update a style but need to ensure it updates correctly in all topics.
I've failed to find this in the help or by searching the forum. Many thanks.
    Lillibet

Depending on the style, a multi file find and replace search on
    <tagname> (such as <h1>
    or
    class="yourstylename"
will find all the topics using the tag or class. The built in tool also allows you to click View for each of the topics listed after the search.

  • Is there any way to find all songs not associated with a playlist?

I have thousands of songs - many of which were never put into a playlist.  Is there a script or any other way to easily find all the songs that are not in a playlist?

  • ITunes will not find all songs in a folder and add to library

I just got an iPod for my B-day (thank you my friends). So I installed iTunes and wanted to have all the songs I have imported into my iTunes library. But I see a lot of the existing MP3's are not added. I have no clue why this is and how to fix this.
I have seen that some MP3's with blank tags are not in added, but I really hope that is not the root cause. When I select the whole disk with my MP3's as the source, only about 6500 of the 10,000 songs are added. I hope I do not have to go fix 4000 songs.
I really need some help here. Is there a way to have iTunes add all songs or does somebody at least know why it is not adding them?
    Thanks,
    Peter

right click on name of song and select create aac version and then sync again.

  • How can I see ALL TRACKS by a particular artist?

When I do a search in iTunes for a band that has a large catalogue (e.g. Pearl Jam or U2) I only get about 150 results. Now, for Pearl Jam I know there are more songs. How can I see a bands' ENTIRE catalogue of songs without having to click on each album individually? Also, if they have a song on a compilation, why isn't that listed in the bands' "All Albums" area? Thanks!

Not all songs for a group may be for sale in the iTMS. They may hold out some songs/albums due to legal issues. Some groups have switched labels and not all labels are listing in the iTMS. AeroSmith is another example.

  • How to find all songs that do not have album art

I create several smart playlists for housekeeping, like songs with no year, songs with no album name, etc. I wanted to create a similar one that lists all songs that do not have any album art associated with it. I have not seen this option when creating a playlist, but I didn't know if there was a way to write a script (that could run on Windows) that could create this playlist for me. I can (and have) gone through each song individually to note which did not have album art, but I have almost 5000 songs, and this is not really feasible any more.
Has anyone else done anything similar to this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Awesome !!! Thank you very much. I did not realize you could use JavaScript to code against iTunes ...
I don't know if you have written any of these yourself, but do you know how to maybe create a smart playlist with this information via script? If not, no big deal. At least I know have something which I can use, I will just have to run it every so often.
Thanks again for pointing me to that site!

  • 5800 xpressmusic wont find all song

My phone cant find all the tracks that I have transfered to the phone. In the File browser I can find the tracks and open them, but the music player only finds the half of that. I transfered the music many ways: PC suite, Ovi suite and normal copy paste way.
I heard that hard reset can fix the problem. I tried it but it asks me for some sort of code. Where do I get it???

For Recently Added, all of my songs were in there. I imported my playlists and most were back to normal. However, the first 13 songs in my Recently Added were the same as before I reset my computer, which I found really odd, so I figured that they were sorted somehow for that to happen--they had to be. The rest of the songs were all of my other songs.
A smart playlist like "Recently Added" is based on the date that a track is added to your library.  Since you erased your computer and re-built your library from scratch, all your tracks are considered "recently added" because iTunes assigned a new date to each song as it was re-added to your library.
Instead of re-building your library from scratch, and re-importing certain playlists you had saved, it might've been better to have simply recovered your "iTunes Library.itl" file.  That is the index that points to where all your song files are, and contains all your playlists, and has properties such as ratings, last played date, and date added.  As long as the native files for your songs are in the same place, you could re-use your "iTunes Library.itl" file if you saved a copy before you erased your computer (always back that file up along with your native files, the .itl file IS your library).
As far as why the Recently Added playlist starts with 13 particular songs, then proceeds with the rest of all your songs in alphabetic order, it is possible that either you (or iTunes) started adding the songs back with the 13 most recent songs you had previously added to your library before it was erased, and once those were added then things proceeded by artist in alphabetical order.  Not sure, but there's really nothing you can do about that other than replace your .itl file with the original version if you still have it somewhere.

  • Not all songs appear under each artist...?

I've noticed that on my iPod, if I have some songs without an album listed, they won't show up under that artist if there's songs there that are listed with an album under that same artist. And this only happens if there is only 1 album listed under that user. That sounds really confusing so I'll give an example.
I have a few songs from Savage Garden's "Affirmation" CD on my iPod. But I also have some from their self-titled album, but I didn't bother putting the album name in. When I look under Savage Garden on my iPod, it goes straight to Affirmation, and shows ONLY the songs from the Affirmation album, but nothing else.
Is there any way to change this?

This has been a known bug for quite some time now. Apple seems to not see it as a bug tho but anyways....
THe work around is to either put a album name to the tracks or mark all tracks in your library without an album name "Unknown Album" or whatever you want to put in that field.
Labeling all tracks in your library without an album name "Unknown" is the easy, quick thing to do as it can be done within one minute. You just goto the "Music" library, hit the "Album" header so everything in the library is organized from A to Z to "Blank album name". Roll down highlight the first track that has no album name. Roll down to the last track without a album name, hold shift then highlight it. This highlight everything between the first and last.
Now just rightclick hit "get info" type "Unknown" or whatever you wish in the "Album" field, then hit OK

  • I changed all songs to the same artist by mistake ...help!

I accidently changed all my 712 songs to have the same artist. Is there a way to fix them back without manually typing in each artist?

    Yes.
Were these songs RIP'd from CD using iTunes?
If so, select them, then menu Advanced -> Get CD track names.

  • Can't find all songs

My daughter has bought over 230 songs but they don't show up on the nano? they aren't in her library & not sure what to do?

    Hello ksjewel,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The first thing to consider is whether the iPod is set up to "automatically sync" or set to "manually manage music and videos." If it is manually manage, you will have to drag the songs from your library to the device in iTunes.
Otherwise, if it syncs automatically, another thing to check is if you have the iPod set to sync all checked songs and videos, make sure the songs have check mark next to them in iTunes.
Do you receive any error messages when syncing the iPod? Is there enough room on the iPod?
Let me know. Would love to help.
