    Hello,
I need to buy some memory for some of our computers and want to make sure I get the right ones. While searching I have yet to find one that actually says it is specifically compatible with our computers.
    Here are the computer specs:
      Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro1,1
      Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          2
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per processor):          4 MB

I know they need to be installed in pairs so I'm looking for either a 2GB Upgrade (2x1GB) or 1GB Upgrade (2x512MB).

  • Migrating iCal and Address book data from Mac Pro G5  10.5 to new iMac10.6

I last week moved from my old Mac Pro G5 with OS 10.5 to a new iMac 2.8 GHz Intel core i7.
I succeeded pretty well to move my different files from one computer to the other not using the Migration assistant, which wouldn't work properly, but using my older Mac Pro as target disk.
Everything apparently works well with the exception of the transfer of data from iCal and my Address Book.
As suggested in a previous thread : kimaccdual: A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs, I tried to transfer the complete iCal and Address Book folders from : Home/Library/Application Support from the old to the new computer. This gave no result at all. Not any of the older data : appointments from iCal; names, addresses, phone numbers, etc (in actual fact : nothing) from the Address book application appears on the new iMac.
Can any one make a suggestion as to what specific files with their exact location contain this information so that I could try to transfer these to my new computer with more success than so far.
    Thanks for your assistance
Just for your information I succeeded to transfer Bookmarks from Safari, mails from Mail, iPhoto and iTunes data.
What could be wring with iCal and Address Book ???

    Kappy,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
I tried this for the iCal application, however without any success. In actual fact in Home/Library/Preferences I only found following references to iCal :
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
which i copied from the old to the new computer as well as the iCal folder in Application Support as suggested.
As already said without any success.
As far as Address Book is concerned only the same type of files, but related to AB, are located on both computers.
Am I missing something or should I look for other files elsewhere f.i. in the "Contents" folder of the application itself ???
    Thanks for anybody's further assistance

  • I download the app but cant find on my mac pro

I download the facetime app for my new mac pro. It came up on the bottom with the rest of my apps I tried to drag it to my desktop and I can't find it now. Please Help

It may be that you dragged just the Facetime Icon that was installed in your "Dock" into desktop.  The actual Facetime Application probably is in your Applications folder. So look in your applications folder, and if it is there, try dragging it to your computer's "Dock" where it will leave an icon for easy access.

  • Question about migrating data from mac pro to new macbook

    Hello all,
I ordered a new macbook today and i'm very excited. It will be the first time i've had two apple machines simultaneously. My question is in regards to getting my new macbook all stocked up with the files and apps currently residing on my mac pro.
    1. I don't know if by using migration assistant if the data is removed from the old machine and added to the new. I don't want that. I want everything currently on my mac pro to remain, unchanged.
    2. I'd normally use target disk mode, but no firewire on the macbook, so, no dice there.
    3. My startup disk and apps and such reside on one HDD in my mac pro, while my home folder, or user files, or whatever, reside on a separate HDD. will this cause a problem.
    Your input is much appreciated.

It can be done with USB, but it is slower and less reliable.
Ethernet works great, IF you have two FUNCTIONAL machines. The great thing about Firewire Target Disk mode was that if the HD/OS was corrupted, or the computer was for some reason unbootable you could still get data off of it quickly, without tools or special equipment. Firewire Target disk mode has saved my rear several times on every machine I have owned.
The hard drive is fairly easy to remove on the aluminum Macbook. I would remove it and install it in an external Firewire enclosure temporarily to transfer your files quickly and reliably, then put the drive back in the Macbook.
Firewire allows two operating modes. One is asynchronous, like USB which suffers from latency, bus contention and collisions.
The other is isochronous mode, and it lets a device carve out a certain dedicated amount of bandwidth that other devices can't touch. It gets a certain number of time slices each second all its own. The advantages for audio/video should be obvious: that stream of data can just keep on flowing, and as long as there isn't more bandwidth demand than the wire can handle, nothing will interfere with it. No collisions, no glitches.

  • Where can I find a 2010 Mac Pro replacement battery?

Every time I google BR 2032 battery, I get links to Cr 2032 batteries.  My Mac Pro owners manual specifies BR 2032 for a replacement - i would be very grateful for any info.

The BR2032 is commonly used in car key fobs and garage door openers.
The CR2032 is less expensive, but has a much narrower temperature range and drains more quickly. It is an acceptable (if not quite as good) alternative if you are stuck.

  • Airplay cannot find AppleTV on Mac Pro-R

I need help figuring this out.
    I have;
Mac Book Pro Retina, 13" (late 2013) running 10.9.2 Mavericks
AppleTV 3rd gen. running 6.1.1 latest update
    Airport extreme router
    I did;
turn on home sharing on both AppleTV and MacBook
    use the same iTunes account
    run on the same network
    I can;
Connect to AppleTV under iTunes and play music through my television from the MacBook Pro
Mirror with Airplay using an iPad2, and iMac 27" running Mavericks 10.9.2
    I cannot;
Airplay from my MacBook Pro - Retina
In systems setting, under the display panel, next to Airplay, it tells me it does not see any displays.
How do I get my MacBook Pro to find the AppleTV under the displays so I can mirror to the TV?
    Thanks.

He meant, this forum does not have anything to do with notebooks like MacBook Pro (though they keep coming here!) the Pro is in Workstation Professional models and 65 lbs which are not portable or laptops.

  • How can I delete all the data in Mac pro and install the latest version of OSX Mavericks?

    Hi,
I want to know why my mac become slow and so, I want to data and system and I want to install the latest version OS X Mcvericks. How can I do?
    Thanks

    Open the App Store app:
    And, choose Mavericks:
Then download and run the installer. Tip: It would be a good idea to quit the installer before proceding with the install, so that you can copy it or move it to location outside of your Applications folder. That way the installer won't be deleted after you run it.
If you don't have a backup of your current Lion partition, the only way that you can do a clean install is to erase that partition, thus losing all of your data.

  • How to find iMessages on mac pro when iMessage was already disabled on pro

I turned off imessages on my macbook pro, but somehow someone on my computer saw random imessages somehow. I dont know where they saw them and I am trying to figure out where. Its hard to explain but can anybody help me out with this? It was a folder somewhere, he came upon it as he was trying to find an email message he thought he deleted.

Perhaps you have disabled the notifications for the Messages application. Click the Apple button on the top left of your screen > System Preferences > Notifications. Here you will find various notifications for different applications, including Messages. Ensure everything is enabled to default.
    It should look like this:
After you have everything enabled correctly, go back to System Preferences > Trackpad
You should be able to find the gesture to open the notification center here.
Once viewing Notification Center, you should be able to see all of the alerts from the Messages application.

  • Need help with G4 to Mac Pro Migration!

After buying my 2.66 GHz Mac pro, i followed the instructions as to how to start up the G4 in "Target Disk Mode" for migration. Was completely useless.
Whether clicking the button in the "Startup Disk" prefs, or holding down 'T' and restarting, i got the same results: My G4 system would restart but before anything appeared on the screen, it shut down and stayed.
I've been searching all over these forums and doing a lot of reading and experimentation. It sound like a lot of people aren't having good luck with the migration wizard anyway.
II did finally manage to get the Mac Pro to log onto the G4 with a cross-over cable. But i need to transfer a tremendous amount of data both from my primary account on the G4 and 3 non-boot internal drives.
Having to go through a public folder isn't going to cut it. .MAC isn't either.
Is there some way i can link up the two systems such that i can retrieve what i want from the G4's drives (without spending additional money).

Efforts to make "Target Disk" mode function didn't seem to go anywhere.
I did at last figure out how to get access to disks all disks on my G4 from my Mac Pro, however.
For those who may need to know it required these simple steps:
{1} I connected both systems to a hub (or DSL router in my case) via ethernet. Connecting the two machines with an ethernet crossover cable also worked, but of course my access to the internet was then unavailable.
{2} Opened TCP/IP in Network prefs on both machines and set them up identically according to my ISP's instructions, as always, but with differing IP addresses.
{3} Under the Services tab in Sharing preferences i checked the box to enable "Personal File Sharing"
{4} I then chose Connect to server... {command-K} in the Finder on the Mac Pro and entered the LAN IP address of the G4.
{5} At the login prompt i entered my G4 main account login & password information.
{6} When the window with my G4 system's name came up and asked which disk(s) to mount, i selected all of them and clicked { Ok }.
Presto. The G4 main drive, my 2 disk raid, my 4th disk, and my home directory all popped up on the Mac Pro Desktop.

  • Screen dims randomly with Mac Pro - NOT a Macbook

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my screen will dim randomly when watching movies or YouTube.  This is on my early 2008 Mac Pro - not a Macbook Pro which seems to have this problem commonly.  I've searched and searched and lots of people have this problem with a Macbook Pro (battery saving feature or something) but there are no options to defeat screen dimming that I can find for a Mac Pro!! Mountain Lion just keeps getting worse and worse!
    HelP!

Hello, thanks for taking the time to help me out!
This is a 2008 MacPro (2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) running Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.4.
I am running two monitors: a HannsG HH281 and a Hewlett PAckard HP w2408h.
When this first was happening back in March 2013, I thought it had something to do with the ambient light sensor on the HP (the HannG doesnt have a light sensor), but it also might have has something to do with the dynamic contrast on the HannsG.  I had shut those features off, and I actually hadn't had this problem in a while and there has been a few Mountain Lion updates since then.
I just tried to reproduce this by turning on/off the dynamic contrast on the Hanns G - did not get the problem
again.  I also just turned the ambient light sensor on for the HP, and again, the problem did not occur.
So it is hard to say if the problem is gone away or not or if it just is not showing itself at the time being?

  • Migrating from a G4 to Mac Pro

I have been running Time Machine for over a year now on my current system, a G4 Quicksilver.
I just purchased a Mac Pro and was wondering if I can continue to use my Time Machine drive on the new system? I assume I will probably never be able to restore from a older backup date (pre-Mac Pro) but will there be any other issues?

you can use Migration Assistant to migrate the data from the TM backups of your G4 to the MP.
but see this link about using MA when migrating from PPC to intel.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
After migration that you'll have to start a new TM backup sequence for the new computer. you will have access to your old backups but only in browse mode. to enter browse mode control-click on Tm in the dock and select 'browse other TM disks". also you might have to reformat the TM drive for use with the MP. TM drive should be formatted with GUID partition scheme for intel macs and APM for PPC ones. it may work without reformatting but you may encounter problems later. I would suggest you reformat the TM drive after migrating your data.
