Finding deadlock Info in Statspack report
Hi DBA Gurus,
Is it possible to get some information relevant to deadlocks from statspack report? I have been asked to analyze the report 1 hour before the deadlock occurred and the hour during which the deadlock occurred.
Thanks
Saravanan
Hi Saravanan,
STATSPACK report generates system wide statistics and i dont think it would be helpful to debug your deadlock , the statspack report generated for the interval when deadlock occured might show you an increase in your enqueue statistics etc. You can enable trace for your application and find out the area of contention. Is the box a Production server ?
Thanks,
Khalid

When I click on "Find Album Info" in Windows Media Player, it finds the correct media info. But when I click "Finish" after verifying everything is correct, it says "An error has occurred on this script page" and asks if I want to continue. I click
yes, it goes back to the last page of finding album info, I again click "Finish" to find the same "Script error" page?Sir, that means the Windows Firewall Blocked the Script So try these steps hope it works for you :
1.) - Open the "Start Menu".
2.) - Go to the "Control Panel".
3.) - Double click "Security Center".
4.) - Click "Windows Firewall" in the top left.
5.) - Click "Change settings".
6.) - Click "Continue".

End of ReportFrederic's right... you're summing up too many statspacks ..
Can't see anything specific apart from the fact that Statspack itself is showing up in the top statements.
First : define 'Slow' . What is your goal for 'Ok' ?
Start thinking about sql_trace, tkprof and 10046 traces -
Hai
We are using oracle 9i R1.
I used to run statspack report every one hour.
Go through the following report and let me know what is wrong in this report. Because our server getting very slow day by day.
Mostly I changed.
If you find anything wrong in the server parameter defined, please let me know to correct that.

- not using bind variables anywhere, resulting in excessive statement parsing. All of your statements have hardcoded literals, and many of those statements are identical except for the hardcoded literals.
Due to the hardcoded literals for Oracle they are different, and will be reparsed.
- excessive full table scans : 48 percent of the wait time is db file scattered read which means full table scan.
Time to tune your statements.

Making sense of statspack reports
Hi,
Is there any documentation discussing the statspack reports. The reports give a lot of information on each event, how much they wait etc etc but I cant find any info on what each event is, what it relates to, if the wait time is high for a particular event is it bad, if so what can be done to reduce the events etc
For example my top wait event is:
"wait for transaction"
Which tells me nothing - is this a server waiting for a user transaction, is it one of my streams processes waiting for a transaction? Is it a bad thing if i've had over 6,000 of these in 45 mins etc
Cheers,
WarrenI think this can help you:
Wait Events
The views V$SESSION_WAIT, V$SESSION_EVENT and V$SYSTEM_EVENT provide information on what resources were waited for, and, if the configuration parameter TIMED_STATISTICS is set to true, how long each resource was waited for.

How to Read Statspack Report in Oracle 11.2g Standard Edition
Dear All,
I am using Oracle 11.2g Standard Edition in Lab.
For the performance tuning, How can i read the Statspack Report ?
Please Note- I can't use the Oracle AWR feature due to License Limitation. As well as if i will generate AWR report with Oracle Standard Edition, it will be not proper and print error " DB time is zero for any interval Report.
-sumit
Bangalore,IndiaHi Summit,
In oracle 11g you will be finding the spcreate.sql script in the same directory as hemant said just run that script
@@$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/spcreate.sql
And follow the normal procedure which you do for creating the statspack report using the perfstat user
can you please refer to below link for more details:
stack pack report in oracle 11g
Also see the link given by Aman sir.
Hi Aman sir its good to see you after long time.
Best regards,
Rafi.

How to analyze statspack report
Is there any book I can read to understand how to deal with the sp report ?
I know how to read part of it ,
what I need is something that guide what I can do when I see that wait event X is too high.
for exmaple , if dc_constraints is too high , what do I have to change ?
not only that , I have to analyze the rest of the report , I see how can we improve performance .
Thanks .Hi,
how to analyze the reportWell, I have my notes here:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_reading_statspack_report.htm
Also, you can paste-in a STATSPACK report into http://www.statspackanalyzer.com and learn how to analyse a STATSPACK report.
There are several Oracle Press books on STATSPACK, you may find useful:
http://www.amazon.com/Oracle9i-High-Performance-Tuning-STATSPACK-Burleson/dp/007222360X
Hope this helps. . .

Jonathan Lewis has discussed about what to read in statspack report and what not as serious of articles on his blog.
http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/tag/oracle/statspack/
For me, I felt, they are worth to read and understand.

I want to learn how can i read the statspack report and find out where is problem. Is any one have the helpfull doc about the reading statspack report please send me.
ThanksSear at google, fro statspack, you will find bulk of good links for the same.
Also, search at http://asktom.oracle.com.
If you have metalink access, it has couple of good notes on how to evaluate statspack.report.
There are couple of sites where you can upload your statspack report and it can give you the analysis. (www.oraperf.com is one of the site).

Statspack report - Buffer Busy Waits on TEMP
I am trying to analyze a statspack report that covers an hour of production time when there was a lot of queries taking an unusally long time (2-3 min instead of < 1.5 seconds), this slow down was seen for about 30 minutes during that hour.
The unusall thing I am seeing is buffer busy waits on the TEMP tablespace and it looks like most of them are on the "file header block" for which I can't find any documentation on. There was only 13 disk sorts in this one hour so any ideas on why/how was the TEMP tablespace or just it's file header block so heavily used?
Here are some of the relevant secions of the statspack report. Thanks in advance for any help.

Look into these events, enqueue, row cache lock, buffer busy wait
select * from V$ENQUEUE_STAT
to find out which enqueue the database has been waiting on.
The three events could be related.
Most likely you have one/some hot objects that a lot queries updating on at the same time.
also check
v$session_wait
when you have the performance issue to find out the hot objects. -

- BMPWell, it depends... very much , what do you want to get? ...two situations may arise:
1) You have a performance issue
2) You're trying to be proactive and find out any 'performance gain' oportunity (or you, neither, your users have realized there is a problem...which is very rare)
My suggestions, if your case is (2)
a) Focus on Wait events
b) Analyze what is going on with excesive reads, mostly if you see disk IO and waits.
c) Try to reduce excesive executions: sometimes developers think is cheaper to ask the database 1 million times, than add 100 lines of code (Yep...it's easier for them to charge the bill on us)
... there are more suggestions, only those poped right now... sorry,I need a larger buffer cache.

I could not find that sql in v$sqltext and stats$sqltext, I was expecting this to get captured in statspack report but it did not happen.
Is it so that the failed sqls will not get recorded in those v$views and hence do not come into statspack report? Or else how can I capture the complete sql statement. -
