Finding deleted files

my computer was put on new, but the files (photos) weren´t saved. Is there a possibility to "refound" the photos?

If they weren't backed up to another drive, the chances of retrieving them in any usable form is very slim. If the HDD was zeroed during the process, absolutely no chance.
There is software that may be able to do this;
Data Rescue 3;
http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
Stellar Phœnix;
http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
Both programmes will give you a free download to scan your HD and see if the files are recoverable, but you'll have to pay for the full application to actually recover them, and that's around $100. You'll also need an external HD correctly formatted for Mac to move the rescued files to.

  • Find deleted files

    Hi All,
    I have a simple & short question, that is not simple for me:
    How can I find deleted files?
    I searched for a solution, and I read about a deleted files basket,
    but there was no solution where I can find the basket. That was in 2005.
    I really need help.
    Thanks for answering me

  • TM: Spotlight Won't Find Deleted File

    As a test, I created a file just before TM began an hourly backup. After the backup was completed, I deleted the file.
    When I open finder and search for the file using spotlight, of course it doesn't find it. When i call up the TM display and click the arrows, it still doesn't find it. In fact, spotlight won't find the file in TM at all. But because I know the exact time and date of the backup that has that file, I can navigate to the exact directory and find it. The file is there, and it only exists in that one backup.
    So TM is working, but this isn't exactly the most convenient if you've deleted a file a month ago, have no idea when it was backed up, and can't remember where it was located.
    I've tried it with the TM drive both in and out of the spotlight privacy pane--doesn't seem to make any difference. Known issue?

    Hmmm, it sounds like Spotlight's DB is corrupt or not functioning properly.
    Might give a try with Spotless...

  • Imovie continually tries to find deleted files

    I deleted several clips from imovie (7.1.4) and now when trying to open imovie it gets hung-up continually trying to find the deleted files. I have emptied the project folder and still it searches for the deleted files. How do  get it to stop trying to find the deleted files?

    Try deleting iMovie's preferences file. With iMovie closed, in Finder go to your User (Home) folder Library/Preferences. Locate a file named "com.apple.iMoviexx.plist" where xx represents the version number. I can't recall the exact .plist name for version 7.1.4, which is iMovie '08, but for iMovie '09 it's iMovie8, and for iMovie '11 it's iMovieApp (that is, "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist").
    Drag the appropriate .plist file to the trash. When next opened, iMovie will create a fresh file with the default settings, which you can change if desired in iMovie's menu (iMovie>Preferences).
    Deleting the preference file sometimes helps when iMovie is not performing as it should. Deleting the file will not damage any of your Events or Projects.

  • Where can I find deleted files in Bridge CC?

    I have been opening files from an SD card in bridge CC today.
    By mistake I pressed the delete key....
    The trashcan on my computer does not display the file.
    As I know the name and the file type, I did a general search on my (windows 8) PC without any result.
    I am getting very nervous now.
    Does anyone know if there is a way to restore this or recover the file??

    Pointing any software at a camera card, especially if it's still on the camera, is a very bad idea.
    This excerpt is from a long-gone post by the late, lamented author Bruce Fraser:
    Bruce Fraser - 4:17pm Jun 14, 04 PST (#5 of 21) Opening files directly from the camera is a bad idea for a variety of reasons*, and it most certainly isn't faster than using a FireWire or USB2 card reader.    •
            • Drains the camera battery
            • Runs the risk of the software you're using to open the images writing to the card and destroying the format
            • Runs a small but significant risk of USB power frying the camera
            • Slowest method known to mankind of getting images off a CF or SD card

  • Deleted Files path from HardDisk ( FAT / NTFS ) in C#

    I have been trying to find a method to providing path(location) of deleted files from storage drives (Hard Disk, Removable drives etc.)
    Does anyone know any classes/methods for finding deleted files, retrieving them or any tutorials or helps on the matter.

    Look in the recycle bin, e.g.
    namespace Samples
    using Shell32; // Requires a reference on %SYSTEMROOT%/System32/shell32.dll.
    using System;
    using System.Runtime.InteropServices;
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    Shell shell = new Shell();
    Folder recycleBin = shell.NameSpace(10);
    foreach (FolderItem2 f in recycleBin.Items())
    Console.WriteLine("{1}\t {0}\t {2}", f.Name, f.Type, recycleBin.GetDetailsOf(f, 1));
    Marshal.FinalReleaseComObject(shell);
    Console.WriteLine("Done.");
    Console.ReadLine();

  • Versioning / preserving deleted files

    I created a CM repository with versioning turned on and the 'Preserve Version Histories' option enabled.  I've tested and it seems to work; I can create a file, change it, then delete it and find all history for that file in the .system folder.  Is there any logic to the folder structure within the .system/versions/ folder?  I had to manually search through all these numbered folders to find the deleted files.  In this case it was .system/versions/52/99/1795296329952/
    Are there admin tools that make finding deleted files easier?  Thanks in advance.

    Yes, it's based on the internal node identifier.

    >  .system/versions/52/99/1795296329952/
    So the internal id of the deleted resource was "1795296329952".

    No, the path information of the original file is lost once the file is deleted.

  • Error when deleting file: Could not find this item. This is no longer located in ...

    We are setting up a new Windows 2012 server. Users access this server using a 'terminal services'. We have mapped some folders from a legacy server (different domain). Using group policy preferences, we map this folder as a drive for a user.
    When user wants to delete some files, he get's the error: 'Could not find this item ..' The error is displayed to the user and it looks like the file can't be deleted. But when I press the F5 (refresh) button, the file is gone. My problem is very similar
    to a problem in the following post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/042e747a-0e25-4190-b0a2-82f3e9635eb0/can-not-delete-file-error-is-could-not-find-this-item?forum=w7itprogeneral
    When I create 'txt' (or 'pdf', 'zip') file, i can delete it without the error. When I create 'xlsx', 'docx', 'pptx', 'bmp', 'jpg', I get the error.
    Does somebody have an idea, how can I fix the cause of this problem? (I can't tell to users to hit the F5 button everytime when they face this issue)
    Thank you for your help in advance!

    Hi,
    Please check if the problematic files’ filename ended with a dot. If so, you could refer to the article below to troubleshoot the issue:

    The startup disk is the internal SSD in your MBA.  You may delete files by draging the file  to Trash (or clicking on them and then execute COMMAND+Delete).  Then empty Trash.

  • Can not delete file. Error is "Could not find this item".

    I get the following error when trying to delete a file:  "Item not found".  This is a Word 2007 document that would not save properly so I saved it with a different name.  Now I can't delete the original file.
    The body of the error states "Could not find this item.  This is no longer located in... . Verify the item's location and try again.

    Hi,
    I'm having exact the same problem with a file with a long name, to delete, move, rename, attribute change, etc. I deleted the file, which I receive the confirmation. However, the file is still there, with zero bytes and no extension. When I try
    to delet, move or change the file, I get the error "Could not find this item, This is no longer located in xxx. Verify the item's location and try again."
    I tryed everything: Using DOS, there's no 8.3 name format; In safe mode; chkdsk and sfc. Nothing worked.
    I also tryed the tricks in http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/27924-could-not-find-item-when-deleting-files-3.html
    http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1038943.htm
    Without success.
    I took some more time and found this tool on the net "DelinvFile". It works perfectly, after trying EVERYTHING!!!.
    I Have Windows 7 professional 64bits and NTFS.
    Thank you very much.

  • "Sorry, we couldn't find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?" Error with SharePoint 2013 and Office Web Apps

    When I try to open any docx file from the SharePoint it opens on web via office web apps, and when I choose edit document > edit in Word , Microsoft word show me this error "Sorry, we couldn't find your file.
    Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?" followed by half a url to the end users document on onedrive.
    I noted that this problem only happens with Docx files, with specific users  and only when you try to open the Docx file from OneDrive folder ( SkyDrive ) which is hosted in the MySite.
    Any Help?

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to open the Docx file from OneDrive folder ( SkyDrive ).
    Since this problem only happens with Docx files, with specific users, I recommend to delete and recreate the personal site for the specific users.

  • Deleted files still have preview in cover flow in finder window

    After I delete files while in cover flow view mode in finder, the preview and filename do not match. In fact the preview of the deleted file remains when a different file is selected.  Every file below that shows a different preview.  It resets to normal if I close and reopen the folder.
    edit: Upon further investigation I see I am not alone.  Someone else even posted a link to report the bug, which I did.

    Message was edited by: Ravenkeeper

    Support call gave the solution:  instead of 'Arrange by', use the 'clean up by' command under the view menu in Finder.  This does what arrange by used to, and while the menu options are more limited than 'arrange by', it doesn't default to the cover-flow behavior that is so irritating.
    If you hate cover flow like I do, please send them feedback.  If enough of us complain about it, maybe they'll stop putting it all over the place.

    I've had all kinds of trouble keeping my iTunes software current over the past year, but have found the easiest way to remedy the issue is to simply download the latest version of iTunes as though I am a first-time user and then just install it into the directory my current version of iTunes is using. Doing this has allowed me to update my software without losing any of my media/data. Hope this helps! Best of luck!!!
