Finding DHCP server address

Hi I've just bought a managed switch on ebay and trying to find its IP address. I can see in network settings it's giving me an IP via DHCP but trying in terminal with 'ipconfig getpacket en0' doesn't return anything.  Does anyone have any suggestions? Cheers

This is fundamentally a Netgear-specific question, and not something that particularly involves OS X.
169.254.0.0/16 is in the self-assigned IP address range.  You're not getting an address from the switch, which implies that the DHCP server isn't working right, that you're not on a vLAN where the DHCP server is working, or the DHCP server is disabled.  Given that device is a managed switch, it's anybody's guess how the ports and vLANs and the DHCP server are configured.
If you've not already done so, get the manual for the switch and read through that; that'll give you some idea of the interface and capabilities and norms for the device.
Some of the few discussions on the hardware reset process are here, here and here in the Netgear forums, and particularly a blog post here, and it looks like there are registration-required Netgear forums for this series switch that might have additional discussions.
Based on those Netgear forum discussions, there are some bricked switches around, too.

How do I find my server address for WebDAV?
Would I have to create one?

You would have to ask the people who run the server you want to use whether they support webdav and what the address is.
What is it exactly that you want to do?

Does anybody know how to find B1i server address?
    Thanks.

    Abdul,
Instead of using 127.0.0.1 ... try using either the actual B1i Servers IP address or the name of the machine.  You can also review the B1iC troubleshooting guide here ...

  • Incorrect DHCP server address to wireless client

    Guys,
I have deployed a centralized wireless architecture with 2 x wisms in each of our DCs. I just noticed the clients are receiving incorrect DHCP server address, please note there is no issue with connectivity, i just want to know why incorrect DHCP server address is handed out to the clients.
The DHCP server address received is apparently virtual interface address of the WiSM. i am running WiSM firmware 7.0.116.0
    Any information is appreciated.
    Cheers
    AP

DHCP proxy is pretty usless in my mind. It was something that lingered from the old airespace days. In fact if you ask many cisco se's they will tell you they wished they didnt default to proxy. Also, if you ever use cisco ISE, you will need to disable proxy, becuase you will need to configure a helper pointing to the ISE box for DHCP finger printing.
Steve points out, if you use the WLC as a DHCP server it is a requirement to have it on. But we all agree here on CSC (Steve, Leo, Blake, myslef), that the DHCP server on a WLC is not robust and is problematic at times.

  • DHCP Server Address Range

    Hi there,
I was wondering if there was a way to change the built-in DHCP server address range from 192.168.1.x to, say, 192.168.0.x?  For example, when you change the router IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1.  I noticed that when you commit such a change, the DHCP range does not update accordingly.  Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Paul
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your DHCP server range should update automatically to the 192.168.0.x  subnet when you change your "Local IP address" to 192.168.0.1.   Be sure to use a computer that is wired to your router when you do this.  Also, be sure to click on "Save Settings", then wait (3 to 60 seconds) for the screen to refresh.  You will likely be disconnected from the router when you do this.  Do not worry about this.  Power down the router and your computer.
Next, wait 30 seconds, then reboot router and computer.  Your Local IP address and the DHCP server range should now have the same subnet.

  • WRT54GL Wireless Router says "No Internet Access" or "Cannot find IP Server Address"

I tried setting up a home network with my above Linksys router and can't connect to the internet now. I have the ethernet cable from my DSL Modem hooked into the ethernet port on the back of the Router. In port one, I have a cable which attaches directly to my laptop as I was advised to use a cable for initial setup of my home wireless network. I was able to get into the router to set all the passphrases and wireless security settings, etc. My ISP is PPPoe and I have entered both the UserId and Password that my ISP provided. However, upon clicking on the wireless icon, my system states I am connected but the status screen shows "No internet access". I have no problem connecting to the Internet when the cable runs from my DSL modem into my computer, so it's something to do with the router blocking it now.
My ISP does not support my Linksys router, of course, and they tell me I need to contact the manufacturer telling me the router needs to be set up as a 'bridge" ??? There is no mention of anything like this in the manual and I do not know if there is a setting on the router that is somehow blocking my being able to get an internet connection. This is all still with cables attached. Again, I seem to be able to 'connect' to the wireless network but I now cannot get to the Internet thru the router...
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?  Thanks!

Thanks, I did try the step by step instructions and changing the internet type to DHCP but still unable to connect to the internet. Setting back to PPPoE type, the error message now continues to say it "cannot find the IP address of the PPPoE server." I have reset the router back to factory defaults and reset the security and setup settings to no avail. My ISP (Juno), after providing the connection type, login name and password, stated I need to contact the manufacturer of the router and ask that it needs to be set up as a "Bridge".  ??? Does this sound familiar to anyone?
My modem is a DSL 2Wire. On it's homepage, there is a field called ATM Encapsulation that is set to "Bridged LLC" but I am not touching the settings of my modem for fear of messing up my internet connection altogether. It has to be some setting on the router, is all I can think of. On the Status page of my Linksys router where I try to connect to the internet, once PPPoE is selected, the blank IP address and Subnet Mask settings are zeroes and you cannot enter anything into those fields. (I was going to try entering the address of my modem just to test if that might work...)
This is very frustrating. Even tried the 30-30-30 solution I read elsewhere worked for someone. Nothing. Same error message. Once I hook the ethernet cable from my modem into my router, I no longer can access the internet because it keeps saying it cannot find the PPPoE IP address.

  • Windows 2008 DHCP Server Address Range and Exclusion Range

    Hi ,
I have a couple of Doubts regarding DHCp windows 2008  server
    1) The DHCP server  is given a static Ip in a network series eg(192.168.1.x)  starting Ip is 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254  ,
and if the range is from 192.168.1.10 to 1.250 ,
Should the DHCP server be not given an Ip in the DHCP range specified ?
ie  the DHCP server static IP should not be in the 192.168.1.10-192.168.1.250 , ( I have given as 192.168.20.5)
Even though the Exclusion range can be specified , Just want to know if this is best practice.
    2) And next setting up the range , should we give the entire network address as range ( eg 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254) and set exclusion range
or  take a particular series  (eg 192.168.10-100)
    Please advise
    Thanks in Advance

  • Unable to find DHCP-server after 5 minutes?

When I turn on my MacBook and jack in the network cable, the network and internet works perfectly. But after 5 minutes somehow it loses the ip-address gained from the dhcp-server and assigns his own ip-address. Trying to refresh dhcp settings doesn't work, and when I restart my mac, it works again... for 5 minutes, then it loses it's connection again.
I have 2 pc's connected to the same switch and they function beyond 5 minutes, so the problem is definitely with the mac. Does anyone have a clue what this could be?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Does your mac have any PPPoE settings configured in the SystemPreferences>Network>Built_In>..PPPoE tab...?
My guess is that you don't need anything other than standard TCP/IP settings.
    Let us know, alstublieft?

  • 5508 WLC + 3702I APs /w a Windows 2012 DHCP Server

    All,
I am in the process of a new WLC install with five 3702I APs.  The configuration was gone well up till now.....  I am having issues with DHCP pulling IPs from the correct scope. The WLC is in a different VLAN (10) than the APs (142).  What am I missing in the configuration?  We have multiple autonomous 1252s that pull the correct scope.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
      Dave

Are you  having issues with client getting IP when they connect to 3702 ? or AP itself not taking IP ?
Either case I would check switch SVI is configured with "ip helper-address x.x.x.x" pointing to your DHCP server.
Also for dynamic interface configuration of WLC I would check all interfaces correctly configured with DHCP server address.
You can run " debug client <mac_address>" on WLC CLI for a single client & post that output if you still facing the issue

  • Time Machine server Address?

My new Mac Book Pro 15" late 2013 model (the newest) can't seem to see my time machine backup that's on my external Hard drive (backed up from my late 2008 Macbook 13"). I'm trying to find the 'server address' (if that's the right term?) of my HD Backup so I can manually tell Migrant Assistant where the backup is to transfere all my data from. Does anyone know how I find this?

Since TM network backups are placed in a sparsebundle I can't use the often-referred-to solution from macosxhints.com.
Hi, I've already read this hint (see quote above), but figured it isn't appropriate for my situation. Seems, I was wrong! Well, I found out that all I needed to do, was to adapt it for my setup.
In case somebody is in the same boat (and for me to better remember it), here's what needs to be done:
    • Turn off TM on the client
    • Reselect the TM network destination drive
    • Turn TM back on
    • Backup will fail, but hidden MAC address file will be created on the network drive
    • On the server look at the TM drive via Terminal (ls -la)
    • Rename the sparsebundle to reflect the new MAC address
    • Make sure that the hidden MAC address file got created, otherwise just rename the old one
    • Still on the server issue the hint's commands, which are
    sudo fsaclctl -p /Volumes/Backup\ of\ macbook/ -d
    sudo xattr -w com.apple.backupd.BackupMachineAddress NEWMACADDRESS /Volumes/Backup\ of\ macbook/Backups.backupdb/macbook/
    sudo fsaclctl -p /Volumes/Backup\ of\ macbook/ -e
So essentially what I missed, was to fix the extended attribute of my backup destination right on the server!
Thanks, the client is backing up (to the correct destination) right now...
    Björn

  • DHCP server + IP multipath

    hi,
I have configured a solaris 10 box that runs a dhcp server with ha networking using multipathing:
ifconfig dmfe0 thehostname netmask + broadcast + group mygroup -failover deprecated up
ifconfig dmfe0 addif hahostname + broadcast + failover up
ifconfig dmfe1 otherhostname netmask + broadcast + group mygroup -failover deprecated up
The networking if working fine, and setting the failover period to 2500 in /etc/default/mpathd works great - unplug cable from dmfe0 and the host is still available
before using hahostname as a virtual interface, it was bound to dmfe0, and running dhcp was all fine. Now that the IP is on the virtual interface, the DHCP server address that clients see is the IP of "thehostname" (from /etc/hosts). 1st question: is it possible to get the DHCP server to show its IP address as the IP of HAHOSTNAME instead of THEHOSTNAME? I have added "INTERFACES=dmfe0,dmfe1" to /etc/inet/dhcpsrv.conf, not able to bind to virtual interfaces, would like to if possible
In addition to that, since implementing this networking config, dhcp is not running as well. The clients on the network all received dhcp addresses with no problems prior to the HA configuration changes, after changing to this config and restarting (either restarting the dhcp-server service with svcadm or even after a server reboot), some clients are not getting IP addresses. The clients are Windows XP clients, and I had to disable my network card and re-enable it to get it to get an IP address. I get the following error in event viewer (event ID 1001):
"The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."
after getting an IP, i can renew my IP and there are no problems, but in the event of the primary nic failing (tested by unplugging network cable), i cannot get DHCP addresses again.
the first thing that jumps to mind is it might be an arp issue - should i be binding the same mac address to all cards perhaps? i have set local-mac-address?=true with eeprom.
    ideas?

You may want to ask this under Firewall section of this forum.

  • Catalyst 2950 / ip dhcp-server

    Hello,
who can explain the use of ip dhcp-server on Catalyst 2950?
    cat2950-03(config)#ip dhcp-server ?
Hostname or A.B.C.D IP address or Name of DHCP server
The "Catalyst 2950 and 2955 Cisco IOS Commands":
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat2950/12122ea2/2950cr/2950cr.pdf
    does not list that command.
Is it the same as "ip helper-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" without forwarding the other protocols like dns, netbios, and so in or does it configure the ios dhcp-server ( that should not be included on cat2950 - as far as I know)
    Greetings from Germany
    Sven

Looks like it configures a remote DHCP server.
    cat2950-03(config)#ip dhcp-server ?
Hostname or A.B.C.D IP address or Name of DHCP server
So, say you have a DHCP server address of 10.34.1.1, the command would be
    cat2950-03(config)#ip dhcp-server 10.34.1.1
That way the hosts on the switch will now where to send the requests for an IP address. Kinda like a Gateway address.
Just my thoughts, Please rate if this helps
